Have you tried sewing on a flatbed? What did you think? I'd love to hear what your quilting table solutions are even if you don't have a fancy cabinet!
A few years ago, I paid approx. $700 for one of the models you've listed below, the Arrow Bertha model, also in white. Hubs & I put it together ourselves and it wasn't too difficult, just a bit cumbersome and some screws were a tad difficult to get in. We used a drill-driver; it was just the angle which made it challenging. Anyway, like yours, it has an extension on either end and a big lift-up extension behind the machine to prevent quilt drop-off. That much is very similar to yours. I like your Horn model much better though. Mine has no drawers, only little "catch-alls" on the inside of the cabinet doors. They're not super useful so I took them all off the left-hand door and replaced them with a wooden spool rack. Great for keeping thread handy! The airlift works the same way as yours; it's probably the same type. It wouldn't be surprising if the manufacturer sells to all the sewing cabinet makers. I also bought the clear insert and love it. Just like you, that was one of the reasons I wanted the cabinet. Now for the not-so-goods: it can be noisy. It's on casters like yours, but the extension on the back rattles if you sew very fast. And, unlike yours, it's not a lift up and flip out the prop, but it's actually attached on a metal rod like you'd use in a closet. This was done so it can be slid left or right as needed. It screeches with a metal-on-metal sound when you do this. Ugh! I'm rearranging my sewing room and the table is now going to sit flush to the wall, right in front of a window. I don't think I'll need the extension with it against the wall, so I took it off. It's still a little noisy and there's a bit of vibration when sewing fast - something I hate, but it's not that bad. I've had rattling, shimmying tables in the past which have driven me mad - another reason I wanted this table. I like it well enough, but it is not worth the cost. I don't think it's the same quality as yours. How would you say it compares it to your Horn table?
Interesting! Well mine definitely doesn’t make any metal on metal noises! The drawers are handy but I love the idea of having thread nearby like you have. If I see super fast my machine shakes a bit but I don’t think the whole table does. It feels more like just the machine and the insert a little - it doesn’t annoy me so much as worry me that I am sewing too fast! It doesn’t really shake at my normal speed though. Enjoy your new sewing room setup!
That's pretty much what I figured; thanks for responding! As you said, your machine vibrates at high speed, not the table. That's probably what happens to me as well, and it's not too bad because I don't run at high speed that often. Ultimately, the table meets my needs and I'm lucky to have it. Perhaps you might consider mounting a thread rack on the side of the little cabinet? One of the good things about having one's spools under the table is that it helps protect them from dust. I certainly will enjoy my new setup - once I get it done that is!! '😁
I have had my Horn of America Quilters Plus sewing table since 2003 and it works great still. I started with a BrotherULT2003d in 2003 and am using it with a Babylock Altair now. Love table and machine together.
You did good. I have the horn quilters dream purchased 25 years ago. I also have the removed le 3 drawer on wheels that slides to the left. I have moved it many times and it is still my favorite choice. I have the plexiglass inserts for my Bernina, PFAFF and brother pq1500sl. Solid as a rock. Great purchase
I'm very fortunate that my husband was a cabinetmaker for years and is currently building me a custom table. In our previous home he installed cabinets and a custom work surface wher I could manually drop down my machine. We'll have to check into a lift system like you have. I really enjoy your videos!

I've had my horn sewing cabinet since 2017 and I also love it for all the reasons you state. I also had a very positive experience with their lifetime warranty. Just before Christmas one of the tension cables snapped on the lift unit. They manufactured and shipped me a brand new lift unit and I just shipped the defective one back. It was fairly easy to remove and reinstall and I'm back in business!
I got the "Horn" 8090 sewing cabinet because I have a Janome 15000 which is a long machine, it fits perfectly. All the extras, sewing surfaces, automatic machine lift, space for thread, lightbox, hoops etc plus it looks like furniture when close.
I have had the 2003 version of this table since 2003, of course. I can just open the main drawer and rest the insert on it to extend the space. I love the table and have been using it for 20 years with only 1 problem. I went to a heavier machine and had to hold the machine moving base up with a bracket. My dealer sent me the bracket free of charge. They built the table in my upstairs sewing room. I absolutely love, love it. I got the white one with oak (I think) trim. The little cabinet was extra. I have 4 shallow drawers and one deep one. I am in New Jersey, USA.
Thank you for your review, it’s been very helpful, I’ve always fancied getting one of these but now I’m not so sure!. (I don’t use my Bernina knee control either)! Bernina do a large flatbed Perspex attachment for the machine to use for quilting- I find it quite useful, though the feet of it aren’t brilliant and I’ve put a silicone oven liner to help the fabric slide. I’m short but have back problems so I have a kitchen worktop height table for cutting out. I’m lucky enough to have a sewing room now so my machine never gets put away 😉. An adjustable office chair is good for making me tall enough to sew.
Really helpful video. They are expensive but it looks really well made. Same as you, I don’t think the drawers are to support it, I’ve seen it where drawers have been placed elsewhere than under the extended bit. And that looks pretty solid too.
I love my Horn table. I bought it when I saw it ar a Quilt show in 2003. The table has survived being moved from the 1st floor to the 2nd floor and back down again. I was lucky as I got a 50% discount because I paid for it at the show. The lift was set up for a lighter machine bot now I got an Altair which is much heavier. My dealer sent me a bracket and stopper for free to eliminate the weight problem. This just happened in 2022 - I got the Altair, which I am learning to do great things. I love clothes sewing, quilting, and embroidering.
I really like your table. I bought the babylock destiny...a very large machine...so my options were limited, but I was selected to get the Horn 8050. Regret not going with the model that included the rolling drawer unit and extention, but it was too long for my space. I want to strongly recommend that you search UA-cam for videos using your wall and 505 spray glue for quilt basting...it is soooo much easier and more accurate than the floor...if I had to use the floor, my love of quilting would end! I’ve just discovered your videos having just watched the more recent discussion re the Bernina 770 you traded in - think I might be watching a few more of your posts ☺️ I have the same table as you, only a much older version when it first came on the market with little choice of colour. I much prefer the white one. I think I paid approx £600 then - frightening how much it has increased in price!! I have two inserts, one for each machine I own, but unfortunately, don’t have the space to leave it open fully all the time, so it’s a bit of a faff to open it out sometimes. I need to move stuff around to do this - otherwise, I agree - it a really sturdy, comprehensive piece of furniture.
I found two older models of this cabinet! My horn cabinet with the leaf out is 63 inches had to take the door off to fit because I have a fireplace in my living room. I want to get the quilters dream so badly! marketplace is 500! saving up for it! Hopefully it won’t sell but prob will before I get a chance to buy. I can complain I got the horn table for 50 bucks ! So worth it I got so lucky 🍀 I have the 2168❤
Wow, I was literally looking on eBay 5 mins before you posted this for used sewing tables with flat bed option! Starting to notice my shoulders creeping up but think I'll probably have to go with booster seat budget for now 😂😂 Enjoy your new table, be interested to know how it's working for you when you've used it for a few months, any further thoughts...
I have a cabinet that I've liked, but yours has a few features I really like. Thank you for showing it. But I have to ask, why don't you use your knee lift? I think it's one of the best things on my machine.
I just couldn’t get the hang of it somehow. My machine you can push down on your heel to lower the needle and the foot goes up automatically when you stop needle down so I could never work out when I would use the knee lift! Maybe I didn’t give it enough of a chance!
@@ScrapFabricLove I have the same exact machine. I use the knee lift all the time. I use it in situations where I want the needle down but I need the foot up, so for instance when I want to turn a corner when I blanket stitch applique or when I'm quilting and I need to change directions. But I also just use it to put another piece under the presser foot if I'm chain piecing. If you are comfortable without it, do it your way. But you might find it a valuable tool to add to your arsenal.
I am definitely confused now. My machine has needle down foot up automatically- no need to use the lift. Maybe it’s called a hover feature? Something like that anyway!
@@ScrapFabricLove Yes, that makes sense that you use that feature. I disabled it because I didn't want the hoover every time I stopped sewing. sometimes I want my foot to stay down.

No not this one but I think there are other models that have that.

Have had my Horn Sewmate since 2004. It makes free motion quilting a quilt a breeze. All sewing down on it is amazing and relaxing.

Sounds like a fab set up! I need a dedicated cutting area - I’m always on my hands and knees on the floor with my big cutting mat 😂

Yes - I’ve already done that when I got a new machine. I sold the old insert on eBay

I've just bought the smaller Elements Horn table and it vibrates at speed. Disappointing.

Pretty sure it is wood or particle board. It still shakes a bit but not massively for me.
Sure hope you did not include this beautiful cabinet to dealer when you traded Bernina for Janome... this looks like like awesome cabinet.
