Diesel Go Kart Build! | We Bought the CHEAPEST Diesel on eBay!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- We bought the cheapest diesel engine available on eBay (however the engine was still very expensive). We've been wanting to build a diesel go kart for years, and we finally bit the bullet on the cheap small diesel engine. This diesel engine is 411cc, 10HP, and around 20 foot pounds of torque. It's heavy too! Today, we're installing the diesel engine on a cheap go kart to see if it will run and do wheelies. The result is not disappointing!

It's diesel,.. gotta put a TURBO on it!!
Maybe put the engine in a previous 4x4 build?
It would be badass with a turbo and in the 4x4 truck build.
@@freedom4all219 i second that haha it would be insane and so torqy
If they still have the turbo drift trike, they could rob that mini turbo and slap it on. Otherwise a Borgwarner K03 would be the next best thing.
I was thinking turbo-diesel as well.
Yeah turbocharge the shit out of it with ebay turbo like turbo drift trike
If you guys are looking for some performance mods for these diesels I have quite a bit of experience with these. The head benefits from some mild porting. The fuel can also be turned up (there's a max travel adjustment screw near the black oil filter screen plug). Also set my governor to 4000 rpm (I'd pull the side case off and check the rod nut torque before you do though because as you've seen already the QC on china clones sucks lol). I can also send you guys one of my 3D printed intakes that fits a K&N filter if you want.
stack with a flapper is the only acceptable exhaust for this.
Matt Roden it’s called a rain cap.
@@nachothemacho0389 it’s also called a flapper

You are a genius, I didn't even think of a turbo
@@cody8014 Lol that makes 2 of us. this needs to happen
Fuel Injection Sucks stuck a turbo on one of these Yanmar clones, in an old Cub Cadet lawn tractor.
Hey its me.
Its like a 1,000 dollar engine i doubt they wanna risk it, would be sick though, thats problem with diesel lotta torque low end but they dont go high in rpm and wont last long if ya rev it high either
With that much torque at low rpm, make a high suspension travel chassis, large tires, and make it into a rock crawler...
Oh. And you HAVE to put a vertical pipe with a flap cap on that thing! 🤣🤣🤣

i think it would be great on the monster truck go kart.
Im putting one of these kinds of diesels on my 1970's John Deere 210 Garden Tractor!!!
Whats a mud bogger
Extend the frame, put a little bigger drive tires on it to take advantage of the torque, play with the sprocket ratios a little and then put a turbo on it!
I believe that is a compression release for pull starting not a shut off
but it does shut off when u pull the decompression valve ... :)
Yes pulling the compression release will still shut it off. And is probably the best way to stop a diesel in an emergency
if you run the throttle to the lowest setting it shuts off as well.
Yeah that's what I was going to say try holding in the compression release on any engine gas or diesel while it's running and see what happens 😂
@@crankysports If everything's working right, yes. But that won't help in a runaway situation where the engine is getting fuel around the throttle.
Great job, you guys are nuts! Proud to see young guys who enjoy building and fixing stuff!

I'm a simple man. I see Cars and Cameras I click. Diesel!?!=Broken screen
Ike: Unbelievable!!
John: yeah that's slow
First a pair of 2 strokes and now a diesel. You’re diversifying, and I love it.
Diesel generators have that exact motor. It’s a Chinese copy of a Yanmar. When it ran it ran good. Every 75-100 hours you need to pull valve cover and adjust the valves! If you do not.........better buy some extra heads and valve/pushrod kits!😂🤦🏻♂️🤣
In the first 275 hours I became a small Diesel engine master mechanic!😂 Have fun!!

I really really liked the editing on this video. The last few have been a lot of style over substance, with what felt like the bulk of the footage being slow-mo shots with electronic music in the background. This reminds me of your older, pre-crosskart videos and was much more substantive and enjoyable.
That's a fresh take. Thanks for watching!
Funny thing is, I was actually searching for a diesel small engine to swap onto my CT200U that I blew up. I may turbo it too! Thanks for the idea guys!!
Picture this: diesel, front engine rwd, go kart ramp truck!
That would be sweet

DIY yes!
I was thinking something similar but put it in a cart built around a grave digger power wheels and It would become a crazy off road rock crawler!
On a diesel yanmar to up the revs you loosen the cold start spring with a 14mm spanner and snap the wire and turn anti clockwise and the 10mm nut at the top anticlockwise which allows the fuel rack on the pump to travel further allowing more revs
OMG u guys actually did a diesel build y'all are legends
"We do it so you don't have to"
You doing it makes me want to do it more 😂
That isn't an emergency shut off, that is the compression release to help turn it over when starting!
Intended or not, it may function as both, seeing as diesels don't usually use spark plugs the only way to kill the engine is to shut off the fuel or defeat compression. The latter being better as it will still kill the engine in a run away situation. I don't think the engine is actually intended to be shut down this way hence "emergency" so who knows if anything could be damaged doing it.
@@rfworkshopchannel114 the emergency procedure is usually a garbage bag over the intake. I work with engines that are over 5m tall. Some times linkages break or rusted out. Best way is bagging the intake or using a sheet of wood. Shutting off the fuel can take quite some time for it to shut down because of the volume remaining in the filters etc. Or sometimes it's running off of engine oil...
@@karlkarlng Had a compressor side oil seal blow on my turbo diesel Mercedes. Only way I was able to shut it down was to block off the compressor inlet. Interesting day.
@@prescottmajette5290 had one on big 2 stroke. 800mm cylinder diameter. It was a code brown moment.
@@karlkarlng I have always wondered why old diesels with mechanical injection never had a throttle to act as an emergency choke. One that shut up at 6k RPM or at the kick of a lever by the parking brake (that is never used. lol)
Several years ago I put one of these China diesels on a1980 Suzuki street bike I added weight to the flyweights in the torque converter so it would engage at a lower RPM. I tried several different gear ratios ended up with 50 mph top speed and 100 MPG with a small turbocharger it would have gone faster and maybe burned less fuel I didn't have a problem with tailgaters. It was my daily driver for two years.
This engine with a small turbo, making Boost.. Insameee
i will be so sad if they don't turbo it!
It would over heat
@@gsfbffxpdhhdf7043i don't think so, is a small engine to over heat enough and them have problems. If that happen a small intercooler it would be useful and other things that help to prevent

Ike bought two of them to use in future go kart projects but we later found out that they make less than 2hp each. One makes 1.5 hp and the other makes 0.5. Kind of a bummer. BUT one of them is from the 1920s so it'd be sweet to use an almost 100 year old engine!
@@CarsandCameras acualy they are 99 years old right now, which means next year they are gonna be to old for lego.
Been gone for hot minute only to come back to a diesel powered slo-mo clip. Well played gents, well played.
Needs a turbo, diesels love turbos :D
Low revving diesels dont like turbos lmfao
@@TypicalPeen Bruh.. Every diesel is low revving fyi
Diesels work on compression, that's why they can spool monster turbos.
@@R4MP4G3RXD every diesel is low revving yeah but not under 1k rpms max. Its a 211cc. Probably 180psi compression? And turbos dont run off of compression btw. A lot of small engine gas motors dont even like turbos. Hard to spool.
@@TypicalPeen First of all, the engine is 411cc which has a governor that is for 3100rpm
Then, it's displacement has nothing to do with its compression. At 180psi no diesel would run since diesel engines don't use spark to ignite fuel, but rather the pressure in the cylinder.
Also I brought up high compression because with more compression comes more exhaust gasses and more backpressure, and that is what spins the turbo.
@@R4MP4G3RXD okay fair enough. Guess i should have done more research before acting like i know what im talking about hahah. But im man enough to admit when im wrong.

I've been waiting for you or someone to do this; the idea of a diesel small engine, especially with a turbo to make up the power, is something I'd really like. Needs more fuel pumped in but the two things that always go bad on a small engine are the carb when the gas goes bad and the spark, as long as the oil is fine. Don't have gasoline or a spark plug on a diesel... and you don't have to do anything complicated to add boost. (Well, that's the idea, of course. Who knows what the ebay engine is gonna do.)
Imagine that on their quad. They could tow with it.
BaronBoar that’s what I was thinking on the 4x4 Polaris quad way more torque than what’s on it besides the quad is slow anyways it would be a great tow quad
Luke Combs on the 4x4
You should absolutely revive the diesel for a few videos. Makes a cross kart tow truck. Like a rock crawler with a tow system. Make a cool trailer to carry mini bikes

The knob on the throttle is to lock it in position no? Unwind it further and it shouldn’t stick.
Guys ,Diesel=Low rpm's-high torque. Try gearing up with jack shaft. That is what torque does. Low RPM's on engine/high RPM's at wheels. The diesel is best for off roading! Good video!
That's chinese clone of yanmar L-100 series. I have one in my atv and that's a lot of torque for 10 HP
Turbo it, make a stack with a flapper remove the shims or wire a resistor into the fuel pump to a switch so you can control coal with a switch
Its a mechanical fuel pump. To get more fuel you would add shims.

looks exactly like the Yanmar L100EE... The CG uses them to run portable fire fighting pumps / SCBA bottle fillers
"L100EE engines are air cooled, single cylinder, four cycle diesel engine rated at
10 horsepower. Ignition is achieved by direct injection of fuel and compression is initially aided by a compression
release lever to help overcome the 19.3 compression ratio. The engine is started by a recoil type starter. The
engine’s single cylinder has a displacement of 0.406 liters(24.78 cubic inches) which corresponds to the stroke
X bore of 1-86 X 70 mm (3.386 X 2.756 in.).
The fuel injection pump is a Bosch type Yanmar PFE-M type, timed at 13 plus or minus 1 bTDC. It supplies
a Yanmar YDLLA-P type fuel injection nozzle which delivers fuel at an injection pressure of 19.6 Mpa(200 kgf/
square cm). The fuel oil filter is a paper element type built into the 5.5 liter(1.45 gallon) attached fuel tank.
The engine utilizes forced lubrication via trochoid pump and splash lubrication for valve rocker arm chamber.
The lubricating oil filter is a resin, 60 mesh type. The engine lubricating oil capacity is 1.65 liters (0.44 gallons).
The recommended oil for commercial use is SAE 10W30, API grade CC or higher for ambient temperatures
less than 85 degrees F. The oil specified for Navy use is MIL-L-2104, equivalent to SAE 15W40.
The air cleaner element is a dry paper element type. The engine is cooled by forced air generated by a flywheel
fan.
Speed control is accomplished by an all speed type mechanical governor.
The engine dimensions, length, width, height, is 417 X 470 X 494 mm (16.417 X 18.504 x 19.449 inches).
The dry weight of the engine is 48.5 kg (106.9 lb)." - P100 manual

@3:21... you are looking at the high pressure fuel pump, with that metal feed line coming from it.
