Top 3 favourite Maiden album for me... Along with Somewhere in Time and Seventh son. Was lucky to see them live a few times during the "Somewhere Back In Time" tour in 2008 !
Oh i remember the day i bought Saxon's Power And The Glory, outside the record store i met the enemy neighbor's boy, who bought Powerslave. We both nodded to each other in respect. In my thoughts i was like, "but mine will be heavier", haha. Edit: my memory betrayed me, it was Piece Of Mind.
for me this album is just a level beyond ! but to add brown sauce to the already perfect bacon sandwich it starts and ends with my two favourite maiden songs ever , just epic!!
Jim, this was such an enjoyable watch. Takes me back to sitting in my bedroom with the door closed so the music doesn't disturb my parents (as much). 😁 I do believe it's a tie between this and Somewhere in Time for my favorite Maiden album. Wasted Years keeps Somewhere in Time in contention for me. The three album block of Piece of Mind, Powerslave and Somewhere in Time are some of the best metal music ever recorded.
Got into Maiden eversince Run To The Hills, seen them on this tour.. awesome. Your reaction too, very familiar to how I feel about this great band. Thanks, Jim. 🤘🏼😊🖖🏼
Great album!! One of my favs! You should totally check out "Empire of the Clouds" from The Book of Souls album! Total Maiden meets prog tune! Bruce even plays piano on the track!
I saw Iron Maiden open their show in Hannover, Germany with Aces High a few years ago. This struck me as an odd choice given that Hannover was completely destroyed by British air raids. They even had an inflatable spitfire on stage. Nevertheless, everyone loved it.
There's always a caveat with great bands with multiple great albums like you say, and which is your fave at any one moment..... for me Beast is usually no.1....then sometimes Somewhere In Time takes over.... In my teens even Fear of the Dark was the bee's knees 🐝... Mid thirties I would've said Piece of Mind. But Powerslave has never yet had it's no.1 moment for me ...fingers crossed you can make it happen right now Jim🤞 Oh and I've not heard it on vinyl yet so this could be the worm turner 🪱👍
You should perhaps say the one song that you don't necessarily adore individually as much as others on fave albums are the much needed less exciting moment.....the calm before the storm..🤣... Perfect albums are a whole experience sir⭐ every facet has its place to make the journey work....etc🤔
It resides in my fairly adequate cd collection (I've got 16 Maiden albums at the mo in there)....Great album and a couple of live ones from it on 'Live After Death'....The band are just so tight..... I didn't get into them until '87 ish (but I knew all the singles from the debut album with di'Anno on vocals as everyone did) I'm not a metal fan (I have liked Tool for years though etc), but I've always thought them a bit proggy ??? Hmmm ? Good vid again fella.
Steve Harris is in my top 5 bassists, plays all this with his fingers, no pick. Still gets amazing attack and bite. His finger tips have to be hard as iron and maybe pick shaped now?
I'll nudge any channel that does full album reaction to check out queensryche - operation mindcrime. Imo an almost perfect record and one of the best concept albums ever made.
@@JimNewstead thats a shame. I've just watched a guy do a full first listen to it on here to. Weird that some get pulled and others don't. Hope all is well anyway. Cheers for the reply.
I never got into Iron Maiden but I enjoyed this for the most part. Still undecided about the singer and the lyrics...seems a little like a parody of heavy metal. I'm more of a prog guy. I need keyboards and a little softer vocals but then again I grew up with The Beatles and folk. Ps, Do you know any Caravan? In the Land of the Grey and Pink is their best. Pre Genesis Canterbury sound.
Don’t get me wrong, I like a LOT of IM music, but this album doesn’t do anything for me. Even the two hit songs off this album are just, “meh” for me. A lot of IM’s music is derivative and songs are too long. I notice a lot of reactors to music are wrapped up in their nostalgia of the songs and the joy of reliving their childhood when they first heard it. But remove the nostalgia glasses/earphones and hear it for what it is and it’s not as impressive as remembered, maybe. I hear IM without nostalgia because I got into them late in their career and later in my life (excluding Run to the Hills, I heard as a pre-teen). I really didn’t get into the band until Brave New World, then I back tracked the older stuff up to Stratego (a disappointing LP). Powerslave is definitely not the best metal album of all time, or even of their discography. They have much better albums. Anyway…up the irons, God bless and Metal on! (You should review some 80s/90s albums in the Christian metal market-hidden gems, lots!)
@@JimNewstead I went through a period of drinking abbey ales during my 40s. I was drinking English ales during my late 20s based on making friends who bartended at a pub in Orlando named The Bull and Bush.
Dueling guitars, complimentary guitars, one two punch! Dave and Adrian! No better tandem in Metal.
Incredible album. I’ve only been listening to Iron Maiden for less than a year but I absolutely love this album. 👍
Side 2 is even better!
Top 3 favourite Maiden album for me... Along with Somewhere in Time and Seventh son. Was lucky to see them live a few times during the "Somewhere Back In Time" tour in 2008 !
ooh, get you and your pilsner glass for beer :) - awsome reaction - eating my dinner listening to these two reactions. thank you very much.
Yes indeed! Hope you are satiated both nutritionally and musically!

Haha! Was I that enemy neighbour? 😂
Flash of The Blade opening riff is the records coolest part for me...🎸❤️🔥
My favorite Maiden album and agreed, one of the greatest metal albums ever made, period. Not surprised you love yet another album I do.
Can you suggest a better metal album?
@@JimNewstead not much comes to mind. Master of Puppets maybe. Rust In Peace. Mindcrime. Are they better? Hard to say.
for me this album is just a level beyond ! but to add brown sauce to the already perfect bacon sandwich it starts and ends with my two favourite maiden songs ever , just epic!!
I love this album. I think the production on this one is their best.

I just looooove this album love again how you really get into it
It’s a stone cold classic!
Good times.....😁🎵
Totally agree mate with killers and Powerslave
Love hearing you gush about Iron Maiden, also you reminded of the boy from Moonrise Kingdom at the beginning of Flash of the Blade \m/ \m/
They should have played this album in full live who knows they just might in the future like 2024 👍
Ooh, one of my old favorites. I'll definitely give this a watch this afternoon!
Jim, what a great run you are on. Today you have reacted to two of my favorite albums of all time (along with Joe's Garage).

What a great album
I love Maiden!!! Not a big heavy metal guy but...

Mid thirties I would've said Piece of Mind.
But Powerslave has never yet had it's no.1 moment for me ...fingers crossed you can make it happen right now Jim🤞
Oh and I've not heard it on vinyl yet so this could be the worm turner 🪱👍
I came to Powerslave very late, but I agree... it's possibly the best
Hi Jim.
What's in that glass, A Trooper beer?
Up The Irons forever.
Haha, it should be, but on this occasion I think it was Kronenburg!
Know most of the Iron Maiden albums but I mostly listen to live concerts. I prefer the energy and mood of a live concert above studio albums.

That’s a pretty decent collection!

He's unbelievable with his technique.....!!! And a P bass.....chunky trebly sound.....Bloody lovely.
Ha... you remind me of a 16 yr old me. Records, headphones and being totally submersed \m/

I’ve tried in the past….. it got a full World wide block! I’ll try it again soon.

My fav Maiden album, but Clive Burr is/was my favourite Maiden drummer
Yup! 👍🏼
Ooops…not ‘Stratego’…I meant ‘Senjitsu’ or whatever it’s called (see what I mean? Forget-able).
Such a classic! I think my favorite is Seventh Son, but like you said, can’t go wrong with those first 7 albums.
Hey Jim better edit that link or there'll be no coffee mate
lol…. Maybe it’s coffee for bees! 🐝
Thanks, well spotted. I’ll have to do that later. I’m not sure it makes a huge difference anyway but, thanks 👍🏼

Good video Jim. What beer is your goto. I've been drinking a variety of easy coast ipa's referred to as "hazy". Yum!
Mostly European continental pilsners and Belgian beers. Cold and crisp!
