Fishpond Summit Review - Sling Bag Fly Vest - McFly Angler Reviews

- This bag is my new favorite to take with me. Its just the right size, and being a sling, it doesn't get in the way while fishing. There are the right amount of compartments and they work perfectly for just about anything you want to put in there. It keeps you organized, and able to find anything you need in an instant while out on the water. Its also very comfortable to wear, and kinda hugs you while its on.
There is one thing that bugs me though, and that is how to use the net holder. I cannot figure out how to easily keep a net with this pack. Maybe I am doing it wrong, but it just doesn't seem like there is anywhere to properly put the net.
So if you like this bag, and want to pick one up. You can buy it here. amzn.to/2FT0rJy

try pulling the bag around your left side not over your shoulder.
Thank you
Clifton Brigdon i couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t doing that to begin with lol.
My advice exactly. Been using sling packs for years, and I have never brought the bag over my shoulder. Instinctively I always brought it underneath my arm.
Literally, the only person I've ever seen go over the shoulder.
Lmao EXACTLY
I love this pack and sliding under left arm is the way to go. I also have a lanyard hooked on the net ring at the handle so I can use the sling net holder pouch. By far the best pack I’ve used.
I like it also man, yeah I found out recently after everyone told me about sliding under the the arm that it makes it much easier for sure!
Great review! I appreciate your good humor responding to so many piling on about swinging it over your shoulder. Permission for us all to laugh, because we have all done that sort of thing. First use, started a habit, and then can’t figure out why it’s not quite working out when in auto-pilot. 😂 I’m checking out reviews specifically to get a sense of how well the net holder works. I have a different sling pack that I really like (I prefer sling packs over other options), but it does not have a net holster. It has a D-Ring/magnet attachment option, but I don’t like how the net swings and doesn’t lay flat over the top of the bag in back. I want something with the net tighter to the body that ALSO works with a sling pack, so it has to be integrated in the back like this is. I have heard other feedback that smaller nets do not hold well in the holster. Maybe they have been swinging it over their shoulders too! 😂 Seriously, have you ever tried with a smaller net? (22-24” total length). If so, did it stay in okay? Also, does it feel uncomfortable wedged between the pack and your back? Thanks.
So I still use this pack to this day and it’s built solid. No issues many years of hard use later. As for the smaller nets, ya you need the magnetic clip or something, but for a long handle net it works great!
Thanks for the review: I currently have one from Fishpond which sits in front of me the whole time and it drives me crazy as it always gets in the way. Just ordered this one and hope it is a better fit for me. Definitely a nice thorough review 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Thank you! Yes I really like getting the bag out of the way and only there when I want it.
Hey!! Hello! there is a pocket for your net on the back panel. hope this helps tight lines always
Cool, thanks!
It may be just me, but swinging a sling pack from underneath my left arm instead of over my right shoulder has been far smoother. I too have had issues with having to maneuver around having a net somewhere so I mostly don’t fish with a sling pack anymore.
that might help, ill try that thanks!
I have the same pack and love it. Swing it under your left arm😃. I also use the D ringto hang my net from when I use shorter net otherwise my long handle net goes into the net sleeve with a long bungee and magnetic attachment clipped to the same D ring. I also use the side attachment points with snap straps to secure my raincoat as needed.
Thank you for the info Daniel. Yeah I love it also! Its a great pack, and once I get the hang of using the net attachment, then I am sure there will be no issues.
I would never even consider sliding over my shoulder - they are designed to slide under your arm.
Def try swinging pack under your left arm a lot smoother. I also use a magnetic tether for net and use D ring on back of pack to attach part of magnet. No problem with sliding net under arm an net getting hung up
Thank you much! I’m gonna do that from now on
So for me, I attached the net with a magnet release to the back top potion. It holds the net securely/taught against in the bag so it does not move and if I just used it I can let it hang while I finish releasing the fish. Fishpond has one it recommends: FishPond Confluence Net Release.
Great video!
Yes, I figured it all out now, wish I waited to do the review till after 2-3 trips... haha! I took it on one trip and then missed a ton of stuff. I still use this bag today, about 1.5 years later. Great bag!
The nipper location is exactly where I put mine. Because it doesn't make to much sense to put it on the strap especially if you have the bag already flipped to the front and thats where you will mostly be tying flies and cutting tag ends.
Yes exactly, and I put the forceps on the strap because that’s where I’m releasing fish. Lol! After some tweaks of arrangement, this bag is really easy to use and almost perfecg
Perfect
I just got my patagonia sling and it's awesome. It's got a net keeper on the back that you can put a magnetic attachment to.
Cool, I haven’t seen the Patagonia one before, I’ll have to look that ip
Very nice review. You obviously fish a lot and a it’s nice to have someone knowledgeable reviewing a product. Thanks!!
Thanks...
Good review, I decided on the Simms waypoint sling pack just because of the water bottle storage on the Fish Pond. Both very similar bags. 👍🏻👍🏻
Also a great pack! I like that one as well, just decided on this instead, but both are great!
If you look closely the pack does have a place to attach a small net with a magnet or the way you are doing it, and it isn't a problem having the net in the pack when you swing it around, as long as you swing it the right way :D
Yep thanks
I use the net holder while traveling and while fishing I use a magnetic lanyard that ties into the top hanger and then clips onto the pack strap bottom so I can swing the pack around and be usable in both configures. Best pack I ever bought everything is where I need it and it isn't to bulky.
I love this sling yeah. And if you swing it under your arm then it is easier.
I just use a net magnet attached to the plastic ring on the top end of the pack and to the handle end of my net. I use a smaller net, but works fine. Love everything else about the pack.
Yeah, see my net is too big for that... I need to get a smaller net I guess for that kinda thing. But I went out fishing today with my big net, and swinging the pack under my shoulder rather than up and over makes it much easier! I think I figured it out! :) Thank you to all of you who suggested for me. :)
Yeah, I do that too (the d-ring with the magnet). I put mine on the bottom part of the pack so that when I swing it to the front of me, the net is below the pockets and zippers. It works fine when wading, but when you're walking out of the water the net kind of flops around a lot. It's not a perfect system, but since I like the sling pack I'll stick with it.
I have one of these and it is 100% the best piece of gear I have bought to go bombing around the flats for bones. Keeps everything high up if the tide gets high and I can keep plenty of water on me. By far better than a hip pack for me
I agree, it’s a sling pack though, not hip pack
I think sling packs are a good idea because I like the front of my body as free and clear as possible but I do not want a strap connected to a pack draped over my casting shoulder for hours on end. Being a right handed caster I prefer the the strap be over my left shoulder. I’ll wait until somebody makes one.
Interesting about the other shoulder. Might be more comphy
Vedavoo Beast Sling--they make them to go over either shoulder; you specify which one you want when you order it. Also Umpquaa's Ambi-Sling; the strap on that one converts from one side to the other.
Bryon Anderson Thanks, I’ll check them out.
So for a left handed caster, this might be a good option? I've been looking at doing packs, and most are set up to be used by a right handed caster.
Adam Rietz Just got home from a 10 day trip to the San Juan and Rio rivers. Spoke to a couple of fishermen who were using sling packs and both agreed that the sling packs didn’t have enough room to carry everything they wanted to carry. Just passing on the info, you may want to check it out before purchase.
Nice review. Just purchased this pack. Read the comments about pulling it under your arm instead shoulder....tough crowd! LOL
It’s all good. Lol glad you got it, still to this day is one of the best packs I’ve ever owned.
I like it. Good review. I'm using a large lumbar pack right now but I'm going to take a serious look at this pack. Thanks Angler.
Thank you! Yeah I like the pack... I mean everything has its pluses and minuses, so while this isn’t perfect for every application. I do feel that the benefits that it offers really make it good for what I personally need.
Literally the only reason I'm considering this pack is because of the water bottle holder. I have their San Juan chest pack, sage brush vest, and switchback belt. I strongly prefer the vest but hate that I can't carry a water bottle. I have one those carries with a shoulder strap but that is awkward as heck with the vest. I have a smaller carrier that has molle I can put around the side adjustment straps and it works OK. But it throws the vest off balance. Sure I can use a camelbak but that doesn't work well when I take my net, which is 100% of the time now. My only reservation is that I would be dropping 100 bucks on this (I really don't need another fishing pack) only because of its ability to carry water.
Well it’s a great pack, I still use it to this day (almost 4 years later) and love it. However you could look into getting a camel pack for under your vest?
@@McFlyAngler yea I read that somewhere about 10 minutes after I posted that comment. I'm not a big fan of bladders but I suppose I can use a smaller pack like that put a water bottle or grayl in it. The only down side would be having to take the vest off to get to it, but usually when it's break time I take my vest off for a few minutes anyways. Thanks for the fast responses though!
Glad I continued past the wind noise, for a very interesting and thorough review. Only question I would have is it seems you need to wear it over the right shoulder? No lefty huh. Hey for the dollars on this, a very good bang for the buck. Thanks for the good review.
Yes only the one shoulder, but you can swing it under the arm for easier use rather than over the shoulder
Dude! Sling it the other way. Pull it from your back under your left arm and not over your head and right shoulder. Thanks for the review. Good job.
Lol thanks, yes after 2 years of this video being out, I’ve been told many times. Actually the very first day the video came out someone told me. It’s very easy to use that way for sure. Thanks
very helpful. great review. also enjoy the fishing!!
Lol thanks👍
Totally agree on the zipper comment!
Yeah, good zippers are important. First thing to go on cheap packs are the zippers.
The Net Problem - there is a D ring to fit a magnetic net retaining system on the Shoulder strap so when you pull the pack around your Waste and not over your Shoulder, the net drops out of the way. Hope this helps.
Yes I figured all this out already, but thank yoh
I just watched the review and was going to advise swinging the bag under your arm as one is supposed too and not over your shoulder, but i see many many others have already.
Lol yes, thanks
I have this bag - been using for 2 years - love it - very durable for such light weight. I use a magnet system for my net and it works great with this sling pack.
No real problems with this one for me - zips work great so far. I don’t need the extra skinny strap to secure it - just slows me down - but would be great if I was doing some bushwacking to keep it tight to my back.
Yeah I love it, still use this same bag
Thanks for the Great review, just bought mine at bass pro! I had and old chest pouch, I need it a system that is more reliable and dependable, going to the San Juan River for Labor day weekend!!! first time there looking forward to use this bag!!
Nice! Tell me how it works for you. I love it man!
Have you tried putting the net end down? Maybe that could work.
Oh I figured it out, a few subs told me already.
Last time I took your advice it cost me 200.00 for a renzetti vise, lol going to see if my local shop carries this pack.
Lol well, don’t blow through your savings just cause of me! Haha.
McFly Angler I wont I promise
HAHA
Does it ever tire out your shoulder not being able to switch shoulders? I feel like after a long day and many miles of stream my shoulder/neck would be so sore.
It can if I really weigh it down, but not usually
6:30 is where the comedy begins. I hope you've learned how to actually use a sling pack by now.
Lol! Yes I have
McFLY, Hello!!!! Anybody home? You pull the sling under the arm, not over the shoulder...... If you swing your sling the right way MCFLY, your net problem will not be a problem...... Don't think I can take your review seriously watching you jack it up.
Clever, a biff reference... haven’t heard that one before... ;). Yes I’ve figured this out since. And I was rushed to make this. Sorry it was not the best review I’ve ever done, I should probably re-review it now. I’ve had it for a long time now, maybe 1.5-2 years. Still use it, and love it. Have a nice day.
Thanks for the video. I was just looking at one lol. What kind of net is that?
Yeah man, they are good bags for sure!
So the net is a custom net made by a subscriber of mine. His name is Charlie, and he sells them. Not sure how often he makes them anymore though, he said they are quite time consuming, so he doesn’t make them all the time. Here is a link to his UA-cam channel, maybe you can contact him there about how to get one of his nets. ua-cam.com/channels/zNGiKVljld-hirEf0G1e_w.html
Thanks for the thorough review! How do you think this bag would do while using a stripping basket?
So I responded to this last night, and for some reason it didnt go through. LOL So I would say no, dont use a stripping basket. If I needed a stripping basket I would use a hip pack. Basket on one side, hip pack on the other. But that is just me. Not all packs are made for all situations. This one is awesome, but maybe not the best if you need a stripping basket.
I carry such a small amount of gear I fit everything in a super small chest pack that was 20 dollars.from cabelas. Odds are you need to take 1 or 2 small fly boxes 1 or 2 tippets, a few leaders, floatant some forceps maybe some splitshot. What honestly requires such a huge bag? I guess if you need yo pack around a camera that's a.little different. But I could honestly fit everything I take with me in my pants pickets if it wasn't so uncomfortable. Sometimes I think people just want to show off their gear collection.
That's a lot of typos lol
Not trying to show off, doing an honest review. And yeah, you can take less stuff if you want, but I’ll be honest some places I fish it’s nice to have more gear with me just in case. You can go without a bag, but don’t judge people for taking more stuff. Hahahaha
McFly Angler Im Not judging you. in fact, I even agreed that it suited you well especially carrying camera gear.
That’s fine. And I do think this is a well suited bag for many other people without camera gear. You can put a small windbreaker, or some food in the larger compartment. There are some trips that I just put stuff in my pocket and go. Usually when Fishing a river where I know exactly what I’m going to use. But it’s nice to have extra flies Incase you don’t judge a hatch right, etc.
McFly Angler yeah plus I am new to fly fishing f I am a recent spin fishing convert. Definitely a whole new world to me especially gear wise. I actually saw this bag in person yesterday. The build quality is really great
New to fly fishing here, what is that tool you have on the “zinger” at 15:16 into the video?
It’s for a new zealand indicator system. Good system for slow water and sensitive trout.
@@McFlyAngler thank you, also can’t find your fly boxes do you still make them?
I do, I have 3 different kinds and I don’t sell like on a website. If you want them, I’ll need your email and send you an invoice through PayPal. Just find me on Instagram or Facebook to message me with your email. I also sell flies as well.
Did you figure out a way to put a net lanyard on the pack?
I never needed to Once I figured out how to use the net holder, I didnt need a lanyard. It holds it ver well, and convenient to get out of the pack. Never worry about loosing it anymore.
Which Solarez product is for Wader repair? Thanks for the help!
The flex formula... it’s not a permanent fix... might last a while, but it’s definitely perfect for quick fixes while out fishing.
Do you find that this bag traps sweat on your back easy?
No it’s not too bad.
FYI Fishpond has a Lifetime Warranty on all their Soft Goods
Yes, they are a great company
Swing the pack around your left side then the net doesn't get caught up around your head. Simple!
Yep, thanks
Swing the pack to the low side
Yeah
I like it
Yeah me also
Nice beard👍🏻
Lol thanks
JS Boyle Guess he will never run out of dubbing

Only one use then a review.....NXT up
Yep, 2 years ago I was rushing to try and get content up. I didn’t have time to do the types of videos I wanted to do. Things have changed since and I’ve put up more extensive reviews since. Thanks
Maybe use it for a month and then come back with another review. This was a tad raw.
👍. I’ve used it now almost 2 years. It’s a great pack! I’d recommend buying it. I do have over 500 videos so, maybe you will find others you like better
Who are you. Were you from? Pulling the bag over your shoulder.........
Lol, my name is Zorg and I’m from the planet Salinger
folding net
I ended up figuring it out
@@McFlyAngler still nice video
Thanks!
Net in your wading belt, slide the bag under your arm
Thank you, yeah a few have suggested that, and I tried it and it works perfectly. Thank you everyone
Where can I get a few of the MCFly boxes? l love those boxes
www.ebay.com/usr/escapingdailygrind
Click that link, thats to my eBay. I have 5 types, all are the same waterproof type box, but have different types of inserts and sizes. I also have some flies there for sale as well, so just search through to find the box you want.
Dude you pull it from the bottom...hahahaha not over your shoulder...
Yes thank you, I have figured it out since doing the review. LOL
Lol pull it over your other shoulder
👍
Why do you pull the bag over your shoulder lol. Come around by your waist man
Yeah bro...
uh...this guy doesn't know which side he should be sliding this over the shoulder. sorry, no credibility there.
Lol, this is true. I’ve now had this pack for years and enjoy it very much once I realized how to sling it. Still use it 4 years later.
Ummmmm YOUR DOIN IT WRONG! It slips under and around NOT OVER YOUR HEAD! ROFLMAO......
Obviously man. Came to the party a bit late though. Like 1 day after this posted I figured it out. Read other comments bro.
I hurt me to see you flinging it over your shoulder,
I recommend a Tylenol, hopefully that takes the pain away. Advil could help as well. Haha!
😂 I like you
Awwwwww
