I wish I had the money for some of those. I run a Piscifun Fishing Sling Tackle Bag that I found on Amazon now. Due to some issues that I've had while wading, I refuse to go without an emergency hypothermia kit. The pack is huge as it can carry about 3 3700 series tackle trays which cover an extra layer, heavier gloves, and my emergency kit along with all the trout or creek tackle I could ask for, I'm also very extra and run 2 or 3 rods always.

The best system I have come up with is a chest pack that can be used with a backpack

I have the summit sling, canyon creek chest pack with backpack and a switchback. I always find myself using the sling the most. It is the perfect size, and hasnt hurt my shoulder yet and I am 56. I just like the comfort of it being out of the way and how it holds my Nomad net.

Awesome video!!! Thanks for answering some of my questions. I have a sling but it kills my neck wearing it all day so I'm all over the place on going with a chest, hip, vest, of backpack.

Im embarrassed to say the number of fishing packs i own.... 2 lumbar packs, 2 chest packs, a vest and a sling bag. I find myself using the vest, sling, and smallest chest pack the most. The best advice for anyone new to the sport is to go somewhere and try stuff out! I ordered all of mine online and of course used them before findjng what works for me. So now im stuck with 6 packs and only use 3 of them...

I’ve found a way to get the best of the vest and a pack. It’s not cheap but it works for me. I attached the front panels from the Patagonia stealth convertible vest to the Stealth 30l pack. That gives me access to everything I need when I’m in the water and capacity for a rain jacket, lunch and a water bottle. This has become my go to for most days on the river and when I go boat fishing I just unclip the vest panels on the from and I’m left with a traditional 30l pack.

Orvis has made a pack like that for years.
    This is definitely nice though.

Cool video, but why not a belt? Like the umpqua loaded wader belt?

Might want to avoid Simms if you're looking to buy a sling pack... I bought Simms' Dry Creek Z sling pack (which as Matt noted in this video is expensive) and the waterproof zipper began to fail allowing the bag's contents to fall out while hiking. I reached out to Simms' repairs through their email account and they simply ignored me! Undaunted by their lack of response, I asked one of their dealers to reach out to Simms on my behalf... and they finally responded, but basically were not willing to repair or replace their failed product. BUYER BEWARE... Simms was purchased by a private equity firm in the past year... so I suppose it is not surprising that the customer service response would be so poor.

Hey Johann. I Totally get it. The way I have seen warranties handled over the last couple years from almost all major companies in the fishing industry has left a lot to be desired. For what it’s worth we have already sold about 40 of the new simms freestone slings and haven’t had one come back. I am hoping the backpack hold up well too. If you want email me at matt@pacificangle.ca with pictures of the issue with your pack. I will reach out to my contacts and see if there is anything that can be done.

honestly no 1 pack can solve it all. it just deppends on your needs. i have 1 of each and rotate them in and out as needed. if its a quick trip, hippack wins. if its a day trip sling is a great choice. if its a long hike for the day, backpack+chest pack is the way im going to go.

Fishing backpacks just be stealing ideas from the camera industry 😂
