Thanks for the video. I got it to work on the router but now I need it to work on my Apple TV. Do I just need to update the DNS on the Apple TV to point to the Express VPN DNS? Or am I missing something?

I am not sure if you would be able to support or not but I have contacted ExpressVPN and they don't seem to have any solution. So, I have a similar router to this which is brand new RT-AX55. I have done all the steps but there is always an error TLS handshake failed, please check your internet connectivity though the .ovpn file works on my laptop and my phone when I use it with OpenVPN app so I am assuming it must be something with my router configuration. This router is connected through ethernet to my original router.

Cause right now, I'm using mediastreamer on my Apple TV and it works fine for Netflix, Hulu and HBO Max (I'm from France) but it doesn't work for Disney+ anymore... I would like to have access to the US catalog from Paris. So with a router, I could do that on my Apple TV? Thanks again for the video!
Yes it should work just fine. In fact I can connect to my router with a server in different country and access their Disney plus catalog. I've done it before.
Thanks for the video, Larry. Question: ExpressVPN is discontinuing support for L2TP and PPTP at the end of October 2022. Can I assume that your approach (via a manual configuration of the router via OpenVPN), will continue to work after ExpressVPN discontinues their support of L2TP and PPTP? As I've researched, I've been confused about the relationship, if any, between OpenVPN and L2TP/PPTP.
I think it should work but I’ll have to test it.
These are all separate layer tunneling protocols that encrypt your vpn to make them more secure. Open vpn is one of the more modern encryption and considered safer chances are that's why they dropped the other 2
Hi Larry. I have a asus rog strix gs-ax5400. When I go to the vpn section it shows VPN server, VPN fusion, and finally instant gaurd. It doesn't show me "VPN Client" like it does in your video. What should I do in this case? Please help.
Check the VPN server section and see if you can put your VPN information there.

Great instructional segment,however, here is my situation I have a IPTV box (MAG254) which will not connect to my internet, I get a Error code 1020. I believe it is because my ISP provider is blocking the IPTV's portal address. My thinking is to connect another router(ASUS RT-N12+ N300) with VPN functionality( not sure if it supports openvpn, or can be flashed with DD-WRT )

Yes try connecting to a VPN first before flashing your router because there is no reverting back from that. I bought a router from a thrift store to flash it that way if I messed it up I was only out $10-$15 and still had my regular router.
If the check in connection statue doesn’t work what should i do
I did this using express for multiple locations, it all sets up, but every time says connection failed. I get a little x instead of the check. Its strange. I still have internet and everything works, it just wont connect in the router display page.

If you can I don’t know how to do that. You can add a vpn to your device and run one on the router and another on the device at the same time.
I cannot find an answer to this question. what is the difference between flashing a router with firmware from express VPN, and using the method in your video? great video. all of the routers in the 'list' of compatible routers at express VPN appear to be older outdated ones that are not even on shelves in the stores. I assume YOUR method works just fine. I wanted to know what benefit there is to using the express VPN firmware, and what it does. thank you!
I think it's just the difference in software and support you might get from the hardware manufacturer. With a flashed router you are breaking any warranty so that means no support if you have a router with VPN software it's likely to work better because the hardware and software are made to work together.
Say I just want to run the VPN to one device and not the others. Is that possible with this method?

You need a router that supports a VPN if it doesn't you can't do this.
I commented before watching the video. I was able to install using the open vpn following the steps! The express vpn website has firmware files to install and my router is not supported but this method worked! Thanks so much!
