There are 3 Important Reasons why you don't need to install a VPN on your router! VPNs on a Router are great for networking privacy but there are a few downsides you need to know! Thank you for watching!
I have a different perspective as an expat living in Europe. I use the Aircove VPN router from ExpressVPN. I live in Europe and want to stream US-based services like Amazon, Max, Netflix. The delay caused by the VPN is negligible. Yes, I go from 400 Mbps to 180 Mbps but the delay in real life has no impact. Also, the streaming services are constantly trying to block VPNs for this reason so pick your VPN provider carefully. ExpressVPN, Nord, etc. are good options and I have never been successfully blocked. Second, the setup and switching of VPN server locations is simple. You just click on the server you want and it is changed. Lastly, there are a lot of devices like Alexa, Stereo receivers, TVs, etc. that using a VPN router is the only option to make them work as they don't support a VPN. So in net, I would say VPN routers are a good option and mitigate these downsides well.
He's just spreading panic so people don't buy VPNs, if you listened closely to all of his "negative" claims, they are all lies or his own misconceptions.
What about the fact that all your networkdata goes through the servers of the VPN. I can see many reasons why I wouldn't want that. They say it's encrypted, but is it? Maybe the route to the server is encrypted, but once at the server... They control the encryption from router to their server...
@devdanielsan Great Points. I think most VPNs are encrypted because they wouldn't be in business . Eventually the word would get out and that VPN company would be dead. Thanks for watching.
Finally! Thank you. Amazing how hard it is to find this information. Devices I'm unable to install the software on was my curiosity. Hopefully nothing has changed in the past year since this vid was made.
That's just a "typical" router that's been rebranded from the GL-AX1800 with VPN software(shame on express smh). Vilfo VPN Router worked for me( Its FAST!) as it's CPU is powerful enough to Run a Windows Laptop. I use ExpressVPN & Surfshark. it supports MANY VPN providers right out of box, dummy proof settings, grouping for VPN and non VPN group, allows different VPN Providers or locations on a group basis. downside: you need an access point as even Vilfo says WiFi isn't the best. I use my ISP's router as an access point by just turning off DHCP and using one of its LAN ports then leave VPN decryption to Vilfo 😎.
@@UltimateTechHubi bought a tplink router with openvpn. I havent configured it yet because i’m hearing conflicting views why you don’t really need vpn.
There's something called split tunneling you know. Where you have devices that need the VPN and other devices that does not That's one of the reasons why I got the Vilfo VPN it also supports many providers instead of just one and has open VPN custom for providers that aren't listed that support OpenVPN. They recently added wireguard support.
There's also a menu on Netgear routers where you can select from devices that are connected to the network on which to ignore VPN. Firestick and Roku are 2 because you can't watch all your channels. It thinks you're out of home.
You must have never heard of VPN Fusion where you have control of which devices connected to router use a VPN or not. You can even have different devices connected to different servers
I have heard of VPN Fusion but not everyone has it. Here is a video I did on the ASUS AX5400 that has VPN Fusion. ua-cam.com/video/99w7UQr9Htg/v-deo.html
Thanks for your video, but you missed the elephant in the room: if you Internet is going be slowed down by the VPN, how can you reduce the slowdown ratio? does anybody recommend a router that can perfrom great in this repect? I don't need any fancy wifi gimmicks - and don't want to spend lots of money either!
There is nothing you can do to increase your speed on a VPN other than finding the closest server to your current location. I have several videos on how to speed up your router. Let me know if you want me to send you a link.
@@javiermitchell7073 A new router is great for advanced security and for the newer standards like wfif6e or Wi-Fi 7 but the router cpu won't help with your speeds. Also ethernet cable type, interference (EMI) and how many devices on your network. The VPN is the bottleneck and there is nothing you can do about it other than turn it off. @@UltimateTechHub What about gaming, folk?
I always look up why I shouldn't do something first lol. Thanks for the free information

Great video, thanks for sharing 🙂

FlashRouters sell new pre-flashed routers for non-techie folks that you can select which vpn you want from a list. 👍

Aren’t their VPN routers with apps that allow for making changes remotely?
Yes some routers have that option. Thanks for watching!

Why does speed dying if I used network switch after VPN setted up router?
ExpressVPN now allows 8 devices (unless you pay for a single month - in this case it's still 5).
Good to know thanks for the great information!

how to connect to another vpn if your router is vpn configured
Actually the opposite, even VPN software had tripled my internet speed as I was able to overcome throttling by my ISP
If your ISP is throttling you then change ISPs! If you pay for certain speeds they you should get those speeds otherwise they are ripping you off.
