I work in a vet’s office as an assistant and I’m amazed how much our vets have to know. They’re like doctors and pharmacists and behaviorists for multiple different species all at the same time
I want to become a vet but I’m scared that I won’t be able to do it
Professional Dreamer don't be scared. I'm almost done with my 1st year in vet school and I couldn't be happier. It's a lot of work but in the end it will be worth it!
You can do it
Work for a clinic and do pre vet in undergrad. You will quickly find out if it is for you!
I feel u. I want to be a vet but after everything I heard I'm not sure. I just really want to help animals.
You can do anything you put your mind too. Never doubt yourself. Wishing the best for you!!
I wanna get into vet school just because animal are cuter than human 😂😂❤
Same dude 😂 And humans are awful to me, not animals 😑
@@dzermina don't defame your species.
You called my insane chestnut mare cute?
😂
@@dzermina is denny the budgie your channel?
So if aliens came to our planet, and one got sick.... veterinarian visit
Lol
Loll love it
Ofcourse they ll sacrife vets😂

Nay nay, we would need a new field lmao. An alien doctor, where u gotta learn all kinds of aliens from different planets I guess lol
Just came across this video, and wanted to say thanks for all the others that you've made. I've watched quite a few and they help so much. I'm currently a Junior in High School but I know for sure, 200% that I want a career in Veterinary Medicine. I've watched countless videos online and googled as much as I can about the profession. I've always had a 3.5 or higher gpa (it's high school though, so it's easy) along with taking college level classes at my school that give me college credits when I pass. Among those is Marine Biology (taking this year) and Calculus. I'm going to start volunteering a ton at various shelters in my area just to get a further feel of the profession. I plan to get into UF and take my courses there eventually applying to their Vet School. It's a long road to go, but I know it's what I want to spend my life doing. People like you have given me so much information furthering my interest in the area. Thank you a ton, you're helping a lot of teens just like me. (:
Oh man you sound a lot like me! lol although I applied to UF and got denied so I'm going to USF now 😊 Good luck on your endeavors!
Damian G hey Damian! See you in vet school! I’m going to UF as well and I’m currently a senior in highschool, I’m assuming you are a senior now considering this was posted a year ago. Maybe we’ll meet each other someday.
Well did you get into vet school?
Lapislazuli 😂
Couldn't get any more accurate with horses 😂 it seems like they will get colic even if you just look at them the wrong way :-D
🤣🤣True
🤣
My first lesson pony coliced from being old I cried for a long time
Pretty good short and sweet comparison. I am thinking of doing this after the military
Wow, this is quite valuable info for me.. Thanks! I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers!
This video really help me have a better understanding between the two :) I'm a freshman in high school and that's been the main thing I've been stressing about for my future career
me too, im in the 9th grade, im stress
One of my friend is a physician but she regrets going into med school because deep inside she wanted to be a vet but didn’t get through
So sad
Dr.Varsha Scooby Did she choose med school because it can make you more money in the end? I want to be a vet more than I want to be an anesthesiologist but anesthesiologists make more.
Amy Archer You can still be a vet and specialise in anaesthesiology
Win win
My friend went into medicine because his father wanted her to ( she wanted to make her father proud )
Dr.Varsha Scooby really can u study to careers i will be mad happy if u can
The power of islam There are few people who have studied both human medicine and veterinary medicine, but they did because first career did not satisfy them.
Dr.Varsha Scooby how many hours do vetinarians?
I’m so glad I found this video cause I can’t decide between the two
Me too 😆
@@dzermina so what u guys are doing now?
so what are you guys doing now???
So what are y’all guys doing now?
Second year of vet school here in Indonesia. AND OURS HERE HAVE A MOLECULAR BIOLOGY BASE. And so yeah my life has been quiet interesting! Thankyou for the video..
Grace Evelyn hi , I'm planning to study vet in indo too! May I know so far how is their teaching quality ?
wah thats great
2018 grad here. :) At NCSU, not all of our classes were mandatory, which was helpful.
I’m 12 and I wanna be a vet when I grow up because I love animals and I wanna help them so this video won’t put me off
I am 15 and I want to be vet too 😆
@@dzermina really?
me 3, i cant choose a career because i love different works. i really cant decide well, my parents were forcing me to be a pharmacist and i always cried because i want to be a vet, but i dont want to study it because its hard but... ok i just want to be a detective....
I’ve worked with animals my whole life. I grew up around different species of animals and ever since the age of 8, I’ve been volunteering at animals shelters and things like that. I love animals so much and definitely want to become a veterinarian :))
toomanycolors remember that becoming a vet doesn’t mean u only deal with animals u also have to speak with their owners more
One of my biggest worries about college is that i never wake up on tome for school. I have plenty of alarms and my parents wake me up multiple times, but I never wake up enlugh to be completely conciius
This is such a great video. I've been considering both but I didn't really know much about the internships and requirements for med school. Love the vid!
same
your insight is quite valuable, thanks for making this vid
Thanks Tempani!
In NZ only our pracs are mandatory (we have about 6 hours of prac a week). But I agree about the pay! We get paid rubbish for the amount of training we do and time on the job we spend!
Sorry I should say 6 hours of prac was second semester of third year I've just completed - prior to that prac time is a blur 😂
Good list! Also, at OSU vet, core class isn't mandatory attendance, some electives are. Good luck with the rest of classes!
1St year veterinary student here in Nepal
#proud_Vet
Thank you so much for your channel. Its the amazing.
Yes this video is soooooo..... amazing and mind changing ....
OMG FINALLY I FIND A VIDEO THAT HELPS
I got an offer for both vet school and med school and at the end, I choose vet school and I do not regret it.
Great video. I think it would be a cool vid of you talking about what inspired you to be a vet
I'll definitely be thinking of making a video like that in the future!
Another thing to keep in mind is that physicians are more likely to be sued bc with almost every death is an investigation and lawsuit happy families. Very rarely will a veterinarian get sued since animal deaths are not really a legal issue.
Really want to be a vet since i was 2 yes my parents told i wanted to be one since 2 years old
Thanks I want to be a vet and this help me so thank you :-)
I m in 1st year of vet school and yeah what the hell with anatomy of horses? XD you made me laugh I think exactly the same 😂😂
how much would you make if own you're business?
I'm in love with animals ...
what main choices lead to your decision??
Hi, I really enjoyed this video. Is it that they teach the full basic medical sciences in vet school as well like they do in med school? What level do you have to reach before you are allowed to practice with real animal patients?
I choose veterinarian
Something big...if you are a vet you may have patients that weigh over 1,000 lbs, and can kick or bite. Even the little cats and dogs if stressed can scratch and bite.
great video!
Also don't forget that's much more difficult to get into medical school and veterinary school. Medical school is a plum and is numerically limited intentionally to keep wait times long and prices up. I hear you can go to medical school in Cuba at a reasonable price
And it's a first-rate education.
It’s actually more difficult to get in veterinary school because they’re few and far between. Not even enough schools to fill up every state, while for medical, there are multiple per state (usually).
Can anyone here tell me is there any difference between veterinary medicine and veterinary science or are they both same ?
I am 16 and gonna graduate year 12 this year I'll be graduating with out an ATAR do I still have a chance of becoming a vet or any job that includes animals.
Not all veterinary schools have mandatory attendance for lectures
am a vet
I think I wanna specialize in equine vets
tmr i’ll be receiving my results on whether i’m accepted into vet school or med school.
jimin’s high note shattered my taecup
How’d it go??
One major point: Vet school is MUCH more competitive then Med school, so is the field in general.
I think this is a common misconception. While there is a much smaller number of veterinary schools in the united states, and perhaps the world than medical schools, the number of people applying to veterinary school is much smaller. In 2018 only 7,500 people applied to the 39 schools using the VMACS application portal (30 of those are US schools). On average that's about 190 students per school, of course some schools have more applicants than others. In 2018 about 53,000 applicants were submitted to the 179 medical schools in the US. That's about 296 applicants per school. Statistically speaking medical school is actually more competitive, on average, than veterinary school.
Perhaps at one point in time vet school was more competitive when there was a very limited number of schools in the US.
Hope this helps anyone contemplating applying and is worried about the competitiveness. Don't get me wrong, getting in is very hard work but the career is worth it in my opinion.
the field (vet medicine) is clearly much harder than human medicine (since they have to do all specialties and in several species whereas physician only do 1 specialty on 1 specie). As for school competitiveness it depends onthe country. In Spain med school is much more competitive in than vet school. In France it's the opposite. And in many other EU countries the 2 are similar.
David White well in Virginia the vet school at Virginia tech is very competitive. Last I checked on it, there were about 1500 students fighting for only 200 spots. Since then, they have made it easier to complete all their pre reqs, which means there will be a lot more students applying for spots next year.
Granted it is one of the top vet schools in the country.
Lilou ou they also have to master dentistry and many other areas that would be considered a specialized job for human doctors.
@@mnmzie3826 I wouldn't say that we have to "master" every speciality. Just like in human medicine, veterinary medicine also offers residency programs if a veterinarian did want to master a particular field of medicine. For instance you can enter a dentistry, radiology, surgery, cardiology, reproduction, or even now behavior and animal welfare residencies and there are many others.
General practice veterinarians are not by any means expected to be a master of all of these aspects of veterinary medicine coming out of vet school. That's why specialists exist!
thanks :)
Are equine vet the same thing as equine surgeons if so what’s the salary
Teaching school ! Because seeing animals and humans in pain or sick makes me sad and cry !
I’m studying medicine in Mexico City and attendance is 80%
Guys im so scared. Im a highschooler who has always dreamed of being a vet but I recently started to research a lot on the student debts and i have to go out of state.
Ah! I have some information for you! If your state doesn’t have a vet school, for example, Maryland does not. The closest vet school would give you “in state” tuition. In Maryland that’s Virginia Tech.
Sooo today we took this like job test and i came out to be a veterinarian witch i really really REALLY want to😝😝😝
Army
What is the name of the song at 0:31???? Please help!!!
Can you do a draw my life plz
im a first year
I wish vets made as much as physicians were equally important
I go to school at 5 a.m
Tomorrow I have to choose between those two 🤦♀️
Ps. In my country, medical school and dental school are a bit harder to get in compared to vet school but in USA, Canada and Europe, it is opposite right?
ShewithBathsoap which one did you choose?
Emily I choose medical school 😄
In order to get into a veterinary clinic, do u have to have past knowledge about animals AND have good grades?
I always wanted to go towards Veterinary but animals death and chemistry is holding me back :/ And that goes the same for Med school also except death and I detest Chemistry...
Oh boy, I am at a crossroads and I once seriously considered veterinarian medicine, but now I’m seriously considering law enforcement. I don’t know any vets personally but plenty of law enforcement and in the end I just want a stable, interesting, fulfilling and rewarding career and I love studying and the idea of being a veterinarian; animas hold a special place in my heart but the officers in my life are pushing me to take a le career and they are all great people.
Hell maybe I can become a special veterinarian police and netflix can make a show about me! XD
Well, that and I can also see my love of animals pushing me to open up my own kennel; I’ve always been interested in breeding working animals especially K9 units for police and military.
There are other jobs besides being a veterinarian. You can always look into being a vet tech. As a tech you spend more time with the animals than the dr does helping them recover from surgery and comforting them (I’m currently a vet tech and feel it’s a job often overlooked).
You should look into animal control officer
You and dr mike should do a collab
I’m Veterinary student ✋
I almost did veterinary but I did a week in a vet clinic for work experience and realised I couldn’t do it.
why?
@@mikaylacasagrande8658 we had to put down a dog and i sobbed for a week

I'm in veterinary school but I'm failing chemistry :(
Help?
wannie The organic chemistry tutor on UA-cam has a ton of help with chemistry. Check him out!!
I'm starting my first year and I'm scared to death because of the chemistry part ... 😂
This might sound dumb as I’m a senior this August BUT I’m very set on becoming a vet and wanted to ask if you did the four years of pre vet then moved on to actual vet school for another four years? And if so what did you major in pre vet school
Gisselle depending on the college you go to it varies. My college has a program with the states vet school called a 3+1. Where you do 3 years of undergrad ( or however long your prereqs take) and then you can apply straight into vet school with no degree
I am a future vet
98000 dollars a year is wrong or depends on where are you living if you are in Russia you will get 220000 a year because many people have animals and farms
What's up with the constant right foot tapping?
Hi andrew
Vet prerequisites vs medical prerequisites?
Ronan Passman if you're talking undergrad they're pretty much the same
Hey! I’m in middle school and wanting to be a vet. I’m scared since I struggle with math but really enjoy science, I’m staring to grind in math to help me later in life.
I’m fine with the tears, and blood. I just want to save animals.
Do you think I can do it? :(
Yup, ofc you can
Do vets have to pay for malpractice insurance the way doctors do? Are lawsuits against vets common?
Britni Okay
Ets do pay malpractice insurance but it’s much much cheaper than MD malpractice insurance. Rates vary depending on the type of practice (equine racehorse practice is probably one of specialties with higher rates because some of those critters can be worth millions of dollars). I’ve been a predominantly small animal vet for 28 years (never been sued knock on wood) and In general I have found that people are understanding when things don’t go well as long as they feel you’ve done your best and you’ve communicated with them honestly.
@@adrianashilling9905 Great info. Thanks for the response!
yes vets have to pay one. In Europe vet malpractise insurance for horse medicine are more expensive than physicians' (but physicians' insurance are not very expensive here). But for small animals and cows they are a little less expensive. And there are a little less lawsuits against vets than against physicians (however lawsuits against physicians are not very common, doing lawsuits for nothing and all the time is really only an American thing)
I cant decide between a radiologist and being a veterinarian 🥺
Veterinary radiologist! They make bank
@@gauravaulakh2252 vet radiologist salary is 100-200k. Human radiologist salary is 400-500k. (Median)
Did you ever consider going to Med School
"I know heh" 😂
sick one
Lol:)
I do believe the vets are real doctor
But you have to be smart
I'm scared to gives shots when I'm a vet I feel like I can't do it❤
Then how do expect to be able to cut an animal open for surgery.
@@nameirrelevant387 see i’m not scared of blood i scared of needles i can do IV
How much do u get paid per hour as a vet?
Siara Santos
It depends on what ur specialized is and where u work
Siara Santos the average salary is 42 dollars an hour
If your thinking about doing this job based on how much you get paid an hour please don't do this job.
shawne 87 why not??
JJ Gonzalez this is really late but when life and death are on the line you would really want someone who cares about saving the life not someone who's like "It's alright if I mess up I'm still getting paid"
Horses just wanted to be different, don't *ride* their butt
Hehe get it
We have more vete worker, need call us Para veterinary
👍👍
There’s only one main difference: physicians treat humans, vets treat nonhuman animals.
Nice video my friend I like it
And I almost finished my first year in vet school
I wanna ask u after graduate
What specialties can a veterinarian specialize in?
What did you major in for your pre grad

you think physicians are helping people only for money? and where did you get the number from? lol
