2021 Specialized Stumpjumper EVO S3 First Impression: LONG VIDEO but tons of input

If I'm being honest, I wasn't really that upset that "my" Stumpjumper EVO wouldn't be arriving until mid summer...hopefully. After all, what the heck would I do with a 150/160 bike in the OZ Trails? Well, I made the mistake of riding my buddy Matt's carbon comp S3 in Sedona. I was SHOCKED at how much enjoyed this bike on this ride. I'm still processing how damn good this $4300 bike performed the harder I rode, on trails I've NEVER seen! Read on to hear my thoughts.
I spent a short amount of time on an S4 Stumpjumper EVO (Video coming soon) and it was just a LONG bike. I looked at the numbers and, for some reason, felt like an S4 was the size for me. I'm 5'10, 190 pounds. For the past few years, I've migrated more towards size large bikes and shortened the stem to deal with a longer reach. However, some of the new geometry has me thinking that a smaller size might be the way to go. Case in point, my experience on this S3 Stumpy. I'd certainly be down to ride the S4 if I was hitting long, fast, technical DH type riding. I'm literally RIGHT THERE on the cusp of sizing. If you're a little shorter than me and you're in an area that tends to be more fast downhill and less turning, go with the S4. It's personal preference in my opinion.
I borrowed this bike from my buddy Matt. He and his good friend Daniel were both lucky enough to track down two carbon comp builds in S3 sizing. They both installed Cushcore, but Daniel tore his apart and changed EVERYTHING! Matt stuck to the stock build, which includes: SLX drivetrain and brakes, Fox Performance suspension, and the base Shimano wheels. I was THOROUGHLY impressed with how well this bike worked! What you NEED and what you WANT are two totally different things. I rode the holy heck out of this bike and I feel that most people won't ride it harder than I did. I had ZERO complaints.
Sedona is amazing. If you haven't been, make plans to do so. My man Alex Petidemange is a very high level rider. He's also French. That means he's innately technical beyond comprehension. He took me on some killer trails that I'd never seen before:
Girdner, Axis, Ground Control, Outer Limits, Scorpion, Pyramid, and Carrol Canyon.
I'm confident in saying this ride was an awesome cross section to get solid feel for this bike. For me, this bike did EVERYTHING well! I immediately dropped in behind Alex and he turned it up quickly. The bike felt great right out of the box! A few things to note:
The rear shock had the large volume spacer (1.02) and I was running 205 PSI. It was a bit firm, but seemed to work REALLY well! The fork had 3 volume reducers and I was running 78 PSI. Both were open, rebound set at 3 clicks in from all the way fast. This bike also comes standard with a 50mm stem.
Descending, climbing, in the saddle pedaling, this bike did it all very well. I'm 5'10 and the sizing was on point. As far as adjustments go, I was running it in the middle HA setting and the BB in the high setting.
I think that sums it up. Please let me know if you have any questions, I'm more than happy to answer them!
Riding the 2020 Evo now for almost a year. I can only talk for myself but I find it a well weighted trail/enduro bike. I love it.
Killer bike!
Extremely entertaining video, the trails and views look killer and Alex is a beast on a bike, made it look effortless! Props for keepin up with him!🤘🏼
Thank you! I’m sure Alex had it dialed back to about 70%...thankfully!
That was intense! You were great following a local legend on trail you never rode before! I believe that dude has most of local KOMs and Macky Franklin had a video trying to beat his time on Hangover. He and you were surely ripping. I am seriously looking at Specialized now!!
It was pretty rad! I had a blast following Alex and it just seemed like the faster I went the better the bike worked!
I was beyond impressed with how well that Comp build performed. Definitely worth taking a look at and let me know if you need any sizing input 👊🏻
Man, Alex is a machine, what a rider. The bike looks sick, the want is strong.
Holy Sh*t! that level of riding skill is absolutely amazing to watch. Scary good!
Alex is REALLY good! So fun to ride behind him!
That bike is a beauty! Love me some all Black! Great content as always Rich!
It sure is a looker! Although, the “clay” option in this spec is petty sweet as well! Thanks Luke!
That dude stars in Nate Hills' videos on the regular, and he's definitely a ripper! LIke the different video format for a change, and to me this is every bit as entertaining as the more heavily produced videos.
He’s a ripper indeed! I’ll get some more video with him on trails I’m familiar with and we can turn it up a bit.
I could’ve been a bit closer to capture more of what he was doing, but I just didn’t know the trail.
It’s great to hear this plays as well as the high production vids! Certainly WAY less money to make these 😂
I just bought this same bike last weekend in the expert trim. Have only kicked it around the house but finishing the ride wrap soon and will be able to hit the trails.
Had to drive 10hrs round trip to get it. The Specialized lottery is real!
Pumped you were able to find one! Let me know what you think once you get it on the trail!
@@richdrewtherideseries Bike is pretty unreal. I really haven't found anything about it that I don't like yet. I haven't even messed with the geo adjustments yet. Coming from a Transition Sentinel. Might not feel as stout/plowy but def is a better climber for me. Blown away by the Specialized tires.
Dope video rich!! Thanks for your detailed and informative review of the Stumpy Evo Comp! I just ordered one and the stoke level is high! 🤙
That's awesome! You're gonna dig it!
That was awesome! Great video as well. Thinking about upgrading from the Stumpy to the EVO.
Did you do it?
Great riding guys, I envy you guys being able to ride all those trails
Such a great video and first ride review. I can't wait to ride it.
Heck yeah dude! Gotta get up there and rip that stuff!
Dude that was a hella rad video. Sick trails. Very informative man. I'm on a stumpy alloy. S3. I was so in-between the 4 and the 3. Landed the 3. Can't wait to get on trails like those. Awesome content bro, keep it up. Favorite follow
Thanks man! It's a tough choice between those two sizes for sure!
WOW, 17 miles not a joke on terrain like that, great 30 minute video Rich. Alex just FLOATS like a magic carpet on those rocks, amazing skills not to mention his cardio. $4600.00 in Todays market not a bad deal considering its not that difficult to spend double that for a top end spec bike thats a few pounds lighter.
Nice that you are able to test so many bikes and give your opinions after making the proper adjustments for you. Sure seems like many quality bikes are sold out for quite a while and i see price increases have kicked in for at least RM and Specialized
I was in rough shape at the end 😳. Alex is an incredible rider and it’s so fun to follow him.
I’m happy to be able to say, and show, how well this bike performs at $4300. I wish people would look closer at “need VS want” when it comes to buying a bike. I’ve also never been that concerned about weight on my bikes. I certainly understand it being important to people, but it shouldn’t be the main driver in my opinion. Appears as though availability will be an issue BC or quite some time unfortunately.
@@richdrewtherideseries I am happy/lucky i got my 2019 Instinct BC as a leftover the end of 2019 before COVID for 3600.00, i considered it a steal. I put some of the $$$ saved into upgrades so even with carbon wheels, bars, lighter seat and the 10-52 XO i still have under 6 grand invested, considering the replacement cost of a new Altitude/Instinct i am way ahead and at my age and skill level any slight advantages are meaningless to me
I am sure you have a few years on him Rich and time waits for no one, i was surprised when your Brother mentioned he was 50, you're both in amazing condition for that age. When i lived in NY [Long Island] i worked with a guy who was in the Olympics in Stuttgart Germany in the 90's. He was a 400 meter relay runner and he was the starter, he came from Bulgaria then and represented that Country, he finished 8th in the World, he recently turned 50 as i am friends with him and his wife on FB, she is a track and field coach at a well respected College on Long Island, though they are still in amazing shape they arent early 20's anymore , you still have some amazing skills and keeping up the fun is the best way to stay in shape.
Alex is part mountain goat, he ascends amazingly..
Indeed he is! Pretty rad to ride behind him.
Awesome video. Still skiing here in BC. But your video is making me look forward to my new stumpy Evo comp. Upgraded to a grip 2 performance elite fork, hunt trail wide wheels and a carbon handlebar. Think it’s going to be an awesome package. Love that you get the same carbon frame with all spec levels.
Heck yeah, that’s gonna be a killer package! I need to get up there and ride some of your trails.
Great video: Rich: "back it back down a bit." Alex: "pffft" :-). (ps those cacti on the side would wig me out. For sure I'd fall into those.)
HAHA! He’s super dry and that makes him hilarious! Outta sight outta mind for those cacti man!
Riding the 2020 Stumpy Evo in NWA (with a few mods 150>160, cascade linkage). Bought it to be that all around bike and it sure has not disappoint me. As you pointed out, it pedals exceptionally well: Back 40 or Tunnel Vision are just as easy as the other variances offered within NWA (tech/jump etc.), and the faster you go, the more confident the bike becomes. I am similar in size and weight and ride a S2 (its between the S2/S3 for the 2021 version).
Great video btw, I see why Alex picked his nickname with the way he floats/jumps like a mountain goat.
Sounds like you have a killer setup on that bike! I’m gonna pick up a Cascade link for my Levo SL.
S2 EVO 2020 это скорее что то среднее между EVO 2021 S3 и S4,посмотрите по замерам и геометрии. У самого S2 2020 года,мой рост 180 см.
Great video! Hit Sedona last March for the Fest. Great 3 days of riding! Few of my boys have #specialized and they love them.
Thanks Harry! Such an awesome area to ride. Did you guys happen to hit these trails? They were built right before the festival.
I’m hoping to get back there in the next couple of months and get some more time behind Alex.
@@richdrewtherideseries I thought I recognized one of those trails. There are so many in Sedona. Your video makes the return trip even more pressing. Glad you liked the #specialized
I have the 2022 EVO Comp Carbon. I am new to MTB, but I love this bike. I live in the PNW, so there are chunky trails all around, and the slacker geometry and longer travel make for a fun time.
Man awesome video! I loved everything about it!. Thank you! You did very good.. btw props on that front tire man! so grippy! I was so nervous xD but it never washed... that's awesome!
Well, glad I watched the latest vid drops in reverse, first impressions can speak volumes, I think the “Big BMX” feel definitely verifies the negative Rider Area Distance, even switching out the stock 50mm stem to a 60 (just for shit’s and giggles) and a re-send is in order. I think I’m pretty convinced being 5’10” myself that the S3 is the Hot Ticket. Way to ride them trails blind!😉
Nice descending and climbing. Great video!
Thanks Paulo!
Looks like your just trying to survive !👍
Maybe 🤔 😉
How does the stump evo compare to the delano peak? Trying to decide my next trail/AM bike. Thanks
Hey John! Both great bikes! I think I prefer the Delano a bit more though and it might just be a personal preference. It just seems to everything really well in my experience and that's important for me since i'll ride some flowy jump lines and rough chunky trails on the same ride usually. It might come down to what you can get the best deal on. Let me know what you decide to do John.
Such an awesome and engaging video, Thank you! Please can you give an opinion on this bike VS the Scott Genius? looking to ride trails and the occasional Enduro.
Hey James! Sorry for the delay on this reply, but I don't think you can wrong either way. Both are GREAT bikes, I think it comes down to whichever you can get the better deal on.
Cathedral Rock view at 21:14 - love it!
Such an amazing place to ride!
Better climber and more nimble than the Pivot Switchblade? Also, more pedal strikes, if any, on the low rear setting?
Keep up the good work!
I don’t have enough time on either to make that determination. Pedal strikes weren’t an issue on this ride at all.
Great Vid! I just picked up 2021 Stumpy Evo S4 a couple months ago and since day 1 I always felt it was just a little too long and not as easy to maneuver as my 2016 Stumpy... so you confirmed my initial thoughts on the bike. Anyone want to buy a Stumpy EVO Comp S4??? 😜
Thanks Steven! I’d certainly ride the S4 and it would be awesome, but I just felt better on the S3. Have you tried all the adjustments to see if it feels better? My concern with the S4 was that the wheelbase starts to get SUPER long.
Seems to me you could sell that thing in a heartbeat!
Are you selling your S4 stumpy?
I have a frameset in s4 on hold. I have a 455 timberjack size L. I am always scooting back on the seat. The diff in reach is half inch between s3 and s4. I might be Intrested in the frameset. I have an xtr train and fox 38 backordered.
alex is so hard to keep up with. Nice work!
Great video Rich and rad riding👌
Thanks Peter!
Good job on the follow cam 🤜
Thank you!
Very nice video! Given that you don’t know the trails, you’re ripping. He would have lost me after the first turn. Lol.
Is there a chance that you will get your hands on the new Trail 429?
Thanks Manny! I did my best to hang with him.
I’m working on getting a new Trail, but it’ll probably be a few months.
1. AWESOME video! 🤘🏼
2. Amazing Trails! 👌🏼
3. Geez I hope buying an S4 (I'm 5'10" too, but I have really long arms for my height) was the right thing to do...I'm coming from a 2017 SJ 650b which has reach value basically identical to the S3 and I do find the bike much too compact/short for my liking 🤞🏼
Hey Sean! Hows the S4 treating you?
Dude this is amazing good riding. Sedona is amazing too 💯💯
I love my stumpy. Great video!
Can’t wait to get mine!
Nice trails and riding, I just put my name on a 2022 Carbon expert Evo
Thanks Rob! You’re gonna love that bike!
@@richdrewtherideseries thanks I'm excited like a kid waiting for Christmas.
Could you already order one in US? Do you know the colors and prices?
@@Max-dj5qj I got mine last week Battle ship blue $6K
More videos like this Rich! Loved this!
Heck yeah Erick! I’m trying to make it happen. It helps to have dudes like this to rode with 👊🏻
Man those are some expert level trails! And the Stumpy continues to impress me with how much abuse it can take! So you said it was the Carbon Comp build. I'm assuming for trails like this one in Sedona, the Alloy builds would be too heavy and therefore not quick enough for the trail?
The 51mm offset fork might be "the ticket" if you're looking at S3 vs S4 at 5'10"? Adds a few mm of wheelbase, seemingly smoother weight transitioning when turning ( especially at low speed ), and works naturally well with a 50 stem.
...Just in case the long stem doesn't add up...
Been riding a 19' Orbea Rallon sz Large with a 51mm offset fork in the techy Granite Dells. The size, stem length, and fork offset works really well for me vs the 2020 EVO S3 29, which is essentially a 2021 EVO S4 size.
Nice Vid Rich. Adding Sedona to my must ride list. QQ- How does the evo compare to the Specialized Enduro in pedaling and downhill capability?
Hey Daniel! Sedona is a must man! I think they are quite different. The Enduro feels more to me like a nimble mini DH bike. The Stumpy EVO is certainly super capable, but it’s something I’d be ok pedaling fro quite awhile.
So is a '21 EVO just too much bike for Oz Trails? I am so torn between standard and Evo. I am a bigger guy though at 6'2" 220, so I wondered if more travel than the standards 140mm might be right for me. Love the channel!
Hey Bryant! That’s a tough call my man. Here’s what I’ll tell you. I wasn’t that concerned that there isn’t a timeframe for me to get my Stumpys and I certainly didn’t feel I’d be riding the EVO much here. HOWEVER, after riding this bike in Sedona, I’m thinking I’ll put some solid miles on it here in OZ. It’s certainly not “needed” and I’m sure the regular Stumpy will be a “better” option, but I’d have no issue riding it around here based on my experience with this S3. Hope that helps.
@@richdrewtherideseries definitely does help. Thanks!
@@bryant8635 what did you end up doing? Same predicament
@@kentao4 Ripmo, but I would have gone Regular Stumpy no problem if I could find one. In the end, I think the 130/140-140/150 is about perfect for that area (and really just about every area). IMO there is not enough “down” here to justify the “up” and “flat” in NWA that an Evo would really shine in.
Oh my god, what a run! 🤯
Dude nice bike choices 👍
Where do you get one?
What size I should get if I’m 5’10 3/4” 225lbs
Thanks man! I have no idea where you’d get one currently 🤷🏻♂️.
At your height I think you are literally right in between an S4 and an S3. In my opinion, it comes down to the type of terrain you ride.
Hey Rich what’s your thought on the new Specialized tires?
Hey there! LOVE the new tires! I’m a big fan of the last generation of Spesh tires and these seem to have a bit more grip. That might translate to a little less life, but they are fantastic!
Hello, just got the EVO S3 myself, went back n forth a couple of times on the steering head, 64.5 and 65.5. Kind of settled on the steeper setting, never tried lowering the BB. Which is why I'm commenting...were you on that lower setting in this video? How were the pedal strikes if so? Was there in Sedona Christmas time on a Ripley.
Hey John! I was in the high setting if I remember correctly. Pedal strikes weren't an issue. I've settled on the steep HA angle and high setting on my personal EVO.
How tall are you
Awesome video! I’m currently in the market for a new mtb for trails out in Vegas. Was debating on Ripmo, Hightower. After watching this video I’m now super curious how this Stumpjumper Evo will do out here.
I bet they all rear it up. Hardest part will be finding it in stock
How tall are you? I am looking at sumpy evo's and I'm 5' 11". You say the S3 felt good?
Hey Wes! I'm 5'10 and the S3 felt good. I think you might want to try to and at least ride an S4 around a parking lot to get a feel for it in regards to size. My bro is 5'11 and he went S4.
I was deciding between the Stumpy evo and the SC Hightower, but I went with the Hightower because it climbs much better. And I don't regret the decision. However, the trails that I ride constantly go up and down; there is no one big climb to go to the top. If the trails near me had a big climb and then a big descent, I would have chosen the Stumpy evo.
Makes perfect sense! I’d like to ride a Hightower soon.
Sedona's the next on our list Drew! You ridden the non-EVO Stumpy yet? Be curious to hear your take on that bike as well. If you need an S4 to try out, I know a guy in NWA that has one.
It looks like It climbs well right? I was looking for something with a 150mm fork but really like the EVO even if its more enduro than Trail.. the regular stumpy looks good too but seems to be weak in descents.. anyway can you Tell me how much does your EVO Comp weights? Thanks man
Hey there! I thought it climbed pretty well, especially for a bike with that much travel. I’ll ask the dude that owns it if he knows what it weighs.
@@richdrewtherideseries thanks even if currently Is sold out everywhere :/
I am on the cusp of an S5 and S6. I rode the S6 around the store (employee's bike) and it just felt huge. I could make it work, but it felt like it wouldn't be playful, so I ordered the S5. Hoping I made the right decision.
How tall are you? I’m 6’2” and have the same decision but s5/s4. How’s it feel?
@@kentao4 6'4". I'd probably go S5 at your height since I was on the cusp of both.
@@hb7030 thanks sir!
Im picking up one of these saturday 😬😬
You’re gonna dig it man!!
Amazing! That guy is jackrabbit
He certainly is Mike!
Hey Rich, Little confused on this and it might be because the numbers do not mean everything. But on the Delano you chose a Large and the Stumpy you are going with an S3 (seems like a medium numbers wise). I am 5'11" and a new-ish rider and in that no mans land of in between sizes. Any suggestions?
Still waiting for that Rob and Rich guide to bike sizing :-)
Hey Austin! I think it just comes down to wheelbase for me. The S4 EVO wheelbase is 1247 and a 64.5 HA. I just felt like the S3 with a 50mm stem worked better for me.
That video is coming for you soon 😉
Awesome vid and very inspiring.
Thank you!!
Great video! The terrain looked pretty intense at times during that ride. Were you clipped in or on flats for that ride?
Thanks Ty! It’s amazing terrain and these newer trails are super fun. I’m clipped in pretty much all the time, have been since I was 12.
Do you think 5’11” can get away with s3?
Hey Taylor! It'll be a bit tight, but I think you could make it work with a 55/60mm stem. The type of terrain would also play into the decision. Faster, chunkier stuff would warrant an S4 in my opinion.
That dude is a monster... Holy shit.
Top riding! Great Vid.
Thanks Nigel!
Alex is undoubtedly great to watch. But I am curious if that style of riding doesn't consume more energy over long hot rides?
Great videos! Would you say the s3 or s4 would be better for confidence and steep, technical terrain? I am a female rider the same height as you but weigh less and have a long torso. Thanks!
Good riding. Long but entertaining. Next time can we step it up at 70% ?! 😝
Looks like people are digging it man! I might need to get back there so we can do it again!
Great information on the sizing. Rich - How tall are you? 5'10"? If I'm not mistaken the new Pivot SB L has the same reach as the S4. Do you ride a L SB?
Disregard on the height question...It's answered below 🙂You plan to test the new FB?
Sold my 2019 Instinct BC last Monday, got 4750.00 for it --i think an XC is better for my riding and typical trails, thinking of the Specialized you and a few others reviewed, price used to be 6 grans now 6300.00
Unfortunately it looks like prices are going up across the board
I like your videos. You tell us the size of the bike. We need your height and weight as well. You told us it fits you good but without the size tells me nothing.
How tall are you? Im looking at getting an s3 but not sure sizing.
Great video! Very informative. Do you think an S5 would be too long for a 6"2 rider? Rode the Levo SL in XL last weekend and the sizing was perfect - I'm looking for a similar fit.
Hey George! Tough to say, I think you’d be right on the cusp. Let me ask a few guys I know.
I am 6'1 and just had a first ride on my S5 2021 EVO. Perfect fit coming from an XC bike. If you like a short reach I think S4 would work fine, but for me the S5 is just right, not too cramped.
Thanks guys! I greatly appreciate the help.
@@n8katz is it nimble enough for you? I’m 6’2” and trying to decide whether to go s4. I came from an xl epic Evo. It was a great fit
@@kentao4 no problems for me riding XC in the steeper configuration. Slack is fantastic for park and DH. Climbing traction is ridiculous. I would say sit on one and go for whatever reach feels bettet
Hey Rich! Just wondering what size wheels you are on??
Hey Brandon! 29 inch wheels on this one, stock 2.3 Specialized tires.
@@richdrewtherideseries that’s what I figured! Just picked up a 2022 stumpy evo and can’t wait to rip in Sedona! We are blessed in Phoenix having such a variety of trails within a short drive! Best wishes brother and safe riding!
Those trails look like a blast!
How do you think the Spur would have handled it?
They were awesome! I think it would be legit with a burlier set of wheels and tires
Spur does great in Sedona, took it on Hangover, Hogs and Hiline. I threw a 2.5 dhf on the front and was good to go.
In the title for a bike review you put "LONG VIDEO" as if that's a bad thing. Yes please!
Haha! I’m still learning 🤷🏻♂️
Brother just found the channel. Awesome videos. 6' 5" 250lbs trying to decide between pivot switchblade pro xo1, stumpjumper pro and stumpy evo pro. All 3 bikes can be bought for $6100-6400 right now. I'm in Sacramento and have access to a variety of trails from mild to Downieville although will probably spend most my time riding stuff in between. I really don't want to feel under biked at my size and weight. Any input is appreciated.
hello, recently stumbled upon your videos and am really enjoying the information as im currently in the same scenario between S3 or S4. lots of single track in my area and tend to enjoy a little downhill when i do travel. Im also 5'10. currently riding a large honzo at a 475 reach, tried a medium trek that was a 440 reach and it was EXTREMELY cramped. i see the new stumpys sit at a 455 mm reach in the high setting. i know i can play around with sizing a little more if i size down more than up. will i feel cramped on an s3 in comparison to my large honzo ? i fear to order a bike and have it be too large. im stuck.
Hey Logan! That's a tough call, but I think I'd stick with the S3 and put a 50mm stem on it. The wheelbase just gets so long on the S4 in my opinion. Good luck and let me know what you decide.

Hi Rich thank you for your videos, I am very confused because the specialized website recommends s4, I am 178cm which I think is 5'10 like you. could you give me any advice or make a video according to your experience what is better to choose when someone is between two sizes. thank you very much.
On the Evo, the cockpit feels tighter, but he wheelbase is long. If you’re riding park style fast trails all the time or super steep stuff, go S4 with short stem. If you have more technical trails, lots of turning, The shorter bike will be more enjoyable.
@@alexptdmg Thanks!! it's difficult. I like to ride normally technical, with lots of turning but also quite steep. maybe I will go for shorter. thanks a lot!!!!
Shorter bike, longer stem and run it in the slacker longer set up.
@@alexptdmg Thanksss I think that is the best option as well but with a normal 50mm stem I don't like a long stem. thanks!!
50mm is what I call long! And it comes with one that size.
Can you give us some thoughts on how the EVO compares to the Delano Peak?
6 feet here, long legs, short torso. Ride Colorado high alpine trails (lots of climbing). I am inclined to go for S3. Feel like the reach is enough given my shorter than normal torso. Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks for the content.
What did you get?
I'm 5'8.5 and felt crampped on an S3. Not sure how you don't feel the same at 5'10.
I don’t know what to say 🤷🏻♂️. It just worked. In all fairness, I’ll almost instantly adapt to anything.
@@richdrewtherideseries Does the S4 feel as snappy as S3?
Vertical height alone is a very poor indicator to compare how a bike would fit for someone vs someone else of a similar vertical height.
Looking at vertical height, inseam, and arm length would paint a much better picture of the anatomical differences which affect bike fit from person to person such as effective top tube length and reach.
@@sisufitness659 Totally agree. To many variables.
60 should still work. They come stock with a 50.
How tall are you, did you end up going with S3 or 4?
What kind of GoPro harness or mount were you wearing?
Hey there! I use the Stuntman chest harness.
Thanks for taking the time to answer.
Hey rich Was he on a 21 stumpy 140/130?
Curious how tall you are? Also if you can comment a bit more about what you like on the S3 vs S4?
I’m 5’10 and I generally like bigger/longer bikes, but the S4 just felt long. I did have it in the steel HA and high BB setting though. It’s a tough call and I think I could go either way, I just like how this one felt.
@@richdrewtherideseries that comes in handy as Im right there too right now.
Let me guess, Arizona?
Yes, Sedona actually. Such a fun place to ride.
Kind of a newbe question, what do you mean by a 150/160 bike?
Suspension travel. 150 rear travel, 160 front travel.
Red Mountain Goat droppin the knowledge! Let me know if you have any other questions Donald.
Cool, thanks guys.
Too many people are riding bikes which are too large for them. Take a look at wheelbaae, reach and stack numbers over the years within the same model.
Hey Drew. Rad video. Question on the S3 sizing. What is your height and weight? I got a S4 a few months ago and am having a lot of fun. Just wondering if a S3 would run a bit more nimble. I’m 5’11” about 195# with all my gear on. Thanks!
Hey Robert! I'm 5"10, 185ish. I've been on both and the S3 is a bit more nimble. I could go either way on sizing and be happy. I have one coming soon, I think, and I'm still not sure what size will show up!
Sorry....also, does it like to get off the ground/poppy.....or is it more plush/planted?
I wouldn’t call it poppy, but it doesn’t argue about leaving the ground. At high speed it’s actually pretty nimble, not so much at low speed.
Cant wait to hear how you like the izzo compared to this
Butcher and Purgatory ? How that rubber felt in Sedona?
love that at 20:56-21:11
That looked terrifying!
how tall are you rich?
Hey Alex! I’m 5’10. I could certainly ride an S4 without an issue, but I meshed with this S3 well!
Wow 🤩 a lot of MTB Ihave also Specialized you can show my video.but your bike is beautiful
Thanks ✌️
How tall are you?
I’m 5’10. I could certainly ride the S4, but I just really liked the feel of this S3
Im 1.75m tall which is kind of like 5.9 I believe and Im coming from a Santa Cruz Bronson size Large,im also confused onto which size I should get. I love the reach of the S4 but Im scared of the super long wheelbase. Then id go ride trails in BC,moving out of Quebec to Vancouver Island. There are flowy jumpy trails there for high speeds but Im more concerned about climbing. And not at all for XC reasons but in order to put more laps down you need to put the minimum effort possible when climbing. So Im kind of concerned of how the super long limousine that the S4 is climbs out of your perspective ? Did it feel super dooper long ?
Then also was the S3 roomy enough on the descends ?
Thanks a bunch. Also might plan it to swap it to a mullet setup.
Hey Andrei! Man, I think you'll dig the S3 at 5'9. It was pretty damn stable for me at fairly high speeds in Sedona. I didn't get to hit any big jumps on it, but I think it would do really well. The S4 just felt REALLY long to me and it wasn't anywhere near as fun. Keep me posted on what you go with.
@@richdrewtherideseries Thanks so much Rich !!! I already have a side an S3 Expert build I was just re thinking over and over again as we have an S4 as well of the same build. I work as a bike mechanic at a shop and these are the last ones in Quebec ha ha I havent even sold my Bronson yet but im all in with the new Stumpy just didnt want to get dissapointed with sizing as the geo is totally weird and awkard on paper compared to any other manufacturer. Not to mention the fact that on 4 bikes Id probably go on 4 different sizes for Spesh.
Enduro - Im an S3
Stumpjumper - Im an S4
Status - I could go either way S3 or S4
And then for the Stumpy Evo I have only sat on an S2 that we had on the floor which is ridiculously small for my likings.
Dude, the fit on the S3 Enduro is very similar, but prbly a bit shorter on the Enduro.
@@richdrewtherideseries So I should be OK with the S3 then. The Enduro in S4 is massive for me. If I were to ride an Enduro it would be an S3 not bigger than that.
@@richdrewtherideseries its not at all. Enduro S3 s reach is 464 and wheelbase is 1247 and Stumpy Evo in S4 is 468 and 1251 ..... So the S4 in stumpy translates into S3 as of an Enduro. I built up the S3 and its fucking short as fuck I cant ride that crap. Hopefully my boss would allow me to swap with the S4 we still have
How are you
What’s good
Jesus, are we really to the point where the expectations for a $4,000 bike is low. I think the industry better be careful, it’s going to price themselves out of customers.
