Was plesantly surprised about the detector. I will say this however: I am 62 in a few months. I have learned that going for the cheap things in life can be discouraging. If you are getting into a hobby, spend the most amount you can afford. If you just go cheap then the chances are you will get discouraged and quit. It happens often. I was into metal detecting in the 70's and then had a military career followed by marine repair shops until I was disabled to the point that I cannot work now. I repicked up the hobby a couple of years ago and studied a lot. I wanted to not break the bank after all. Disability is not that much lol. Anyway, I was actually going for this exact or something very similar to it as my first detector. BIt then studied more. I ended up waiting a few months and saved up to get the vanquish 540 kit with the extra coil and accessories, bought another pinpointer (the 200 ft depth waterproof pulsedive pinpointer so I use that along with the minelab 20 that came with my 540 kit. Between them they are amazing. I learned the software in the 540 is basically the same as the nox 6 and 800 , just without as many bells and whistles. I knew I would want another detector as well for family and self. Something waterproof. So I started saving 2 years ago and was able to get the new Manticore... WOW! What a machine but with a steep learning curve. Maybe unlearning curve is more like it. So many think it is not grreat becasue they have a nox 800. The problem is, one is not the same as the other and you have to unlearn some things. lol Anyway, now I have been rambling. All I meant to say is get the best that you can afford and do not go cheap. Get someting like this AFTER you have a great machine and do comparisons then... If it is good, detect with your kids or wife or hubby doo. Have fun and do not give up....Update, guys n gals, I am not saying spend thousands, just spend what you can afford. There are great detectors out there for not a lot of cash, vanquish has a great 340 I think for 200. So does a few others. I just hated spending a hundred or two only to then spend more and then more on upgrading so that in the end I would spend more than just getting a fantastic on e in the first place... Make sense?
I started with an Amazon detector, it was a Sunpow that I got for Christmas and I bought a Simplex a few months later. The cheap ones are ok to find out if you really like the hobby, but you will spend more money once you decide you like it.
I agree with you Joe 100%. I really don't think I would be into the hobby today if I hadn't started with a cheap detector. Some people go for the big boys first but I'm glad I started with a cheap detector because without knowing if I liked the hobby I wouldn't have been willing to spend $200+ to find out.
I've had a few cheap detectors over the years. They are getting better. Soon they'll be as good as the expensive machines. I think you should note that there are a couple of features that are better on this cheap machine than, say a Garrett ace 250. It has backlit display, the control box is easy to attach, no screws to lose, it has cam locks on the control arm and a free digging tool. Also, it works. The main way to find lots of stuff is to detect where there is lots of stuff.
Thanks for sharing this information on this detector. Would be a great starter unit to have here at the property for the young nephews and nieces to use to get into the hobby.
I got introduced to the hobby when I was around 10 years old, I still have that machine. It’s a Tiny Tex made by D-TEX. Left the hobby until about 4 months ago when I bought a Fisher F44. After about $4 dollars in change and 3 pounds of aluminum pull tabs , I finally found a standing liberty quarter and a gold chain with a gold pendant. Got the fever now. LoL ..
Awesome!!!! My first "HOOK" was a tiny gold ring in my own front yard within a week of detecting... it's hard to put it down after that! But recently... not much gold has been showing itself 🤣 Stilll a really great hobby overall 👍
I literally have that detector...but in yellow...and I'm just starting out to see how I like the hobby and if I should buy a more expensive one...so far I'm liking the hobby...haven't found anything "great" but it works
If you keep at it you will end up popping something good out of the ground! Plus we are at least getting exercise and having fun right :) I will say a cheap detector can find the goods but a more expensive one makes it a lot easier and a more enjoyable experience. If you like the hobby I think it's worth taking it to the next step! Or you could save up enough quarters to buy a new detector! haha it's all in good fun 👍

bought this kind recently, starting to learn how this works. Searching for videos about this detector and found your video. Atlast! Nice review. I'm looking for a cheap detector for a trip coming up. This looks like a decent machine for the price. I really like that you were open minded about it going into the test. Thank you for the info.
I have pretty much the exact same detector. It isn't too bad, I'm still learning its peculiarities. The little folding digging tool has actually impressed me. I figured it would break right away... Nope, it has held up and is still going strong.
I am a 100% noobie to detecting, I just bought Hazlwolke 1031, I paid $140cdn on Amazon, I love it! I found some old coins in my yard the very first time i ever detected with any detector
I bought a bounty hunter land ranger pro a while back, for around $200. I can tell you I would've rather spent $100 and got one of those off brand ones on Amazon. You try to put the sensitivity all the way up you get a lot of beeping/chatter. Very shortly after I bought a Fisher F75, and a Minelab Vanquish 540 (that Ive yet to use since I been taking the F75 everywhere). The F75 I can crank sensitivity up as high as it'll go and it is very quiet. Found a lot of civil war relics with it.
The Land Ranger Pro competes well with the AT Pro in depth. You only run them at full sensitivity if you can. If it chatters turn sensitivity down. Some detectors don`t do well around power lines, WIFI, etc. There are some amazing 100 dollar (or less) Bounty Hunter detectors. See the Fast Tracker. Hits silver dimes deep.
i recently bought my 5 year old son a cheap amazon detector. i believe it was made by omno or something. the one you tried out in this video seems alot better. the one my son has is real slow its like its on a delay and it also doesnt give consistent numbers over same target. wish i would have bought that one. none the less my son still has fun and am super happy hes interested in metal detecting
Looks like an easy to use entry level detector. I would use it in tot lots and other areas where depth or separation is not a big issue. I started with a Radio Shack (Bounty Hunter) machine 20 years ago. Now I still have the Radio shack, a Simplex+ and my Vanquish 440. I have a friend that wants to start metal detecting, I would let him use it as a first detector...... Dave
I'm glad I live in a country older than 4000 years. We regularly find medieval coins, occassionally Roman coins. You guys won't expect to find much more than pennies, bullets, and various ring pulls through the ages since 1965.
In the areas I hunt you're right, not a lot of obtainable history in modern parks but it's still fun no matter what I'm finding. You'll have to bring me out to the historic sites for some real fun.. 👍😌
@@TreasureOutdoors Then again we have so many rules on where you can and can't detect. Can't do it on public or council owned land, and not on known archaeological sites. Basically you need to get permission from a private landowner. If you do find a potential archaeological treasure, it has to be declared by law. Coins and stuff is usually okay, unless you're lucky enough to find a hoard, then that has to be declared. I've picked up a few medieval coins (Edward groats), but one of the first people who got me into detecting found a Saxon coin from King Aethelred's reign...10th century! I'm still hopeful of finding a Roman coin some day, though a hoard would be better. :)
I have the Yellow version of that detector, it loves iron and targets close to the surface, My grandson loves it, but I seed the yard with coins for him to find. I never have taken it out for a real hunt out in the field, just in my yard for my grandson. ( Just Subbed your channel)
@@TreasureOutdoors I use the Simplex+ or the Garrett Ace 250 with the 8.5 x 11 DD performance coil for hunting, my grandson has the MD1011 (Yellow machine like yours) or the Minelab Go Find44 when he goes with me, he likes the MD1011 most of the time, The Go Find 44 is really new to him and he's not use to it yet.
Have you ever used any Tesoro detectors? They're excellent in junky areas because they have great separation. Of course Tesoro went out of business nearly three years ago, but they're still great back up detectors if you can get one.
Have not gotten a chance to try one but that sounds like a good trait to have, lots of junk in my area! If I ever see one around for a good price used I will likely pick it up. I enjoy trying out different detectors keeps things fun and interesting :)
I've been watching reviews leading up to a purchase. This is better than most, but none are very good to be honest. So I've also been designing tests as I watch. Here's my thoughts. ... cz I won't be doing one. lol Get a bunch of 5 gallon pails, fill with soils, gravels, rocks. Some with layers of 2 or 3 of the strata. Have a hose handy, then repeat them under water. Different variations can be done, metals etc. and have some bigger rocks, and put the coins under them directly, and on some pails. Also have a control unit for comparison, like the best one you own. Put the same material at different heights in different materials. Also make the rocks and gravels varieties which have high metallic content. Sun, shade temperature? Idk if any of that affects it, i.e. reflection off rocks maybe. Battery quality, time vs. features vs. usage. Coil flexibility, like can you put different coils, would you want to, can quality be improved with new coil. For me, important is, the priority components and stats a pro would look at if buying a gift for a beginner. Idk detectors but as an example, PCs, we'd look at RAM, HDD, SSD, processor Hz and cores, the rest is personal choices tailored to your needs, which you can't address everyone's needs in a review. Then you only have to decide what to spend, and when to stop wanting better quality cz you have good quality basics. .. You, know, for detectors, maybe, 'You don't want a nickel or aluminum coil, they suck. Make sure it is a copper, and at least 700nnm. But really, you should find a 12nnm or better. and a indication spectrum analyzer... lol, just made it up, but you get it. That's the review I need on any product, most don't do it. Peace
Got one at $79 on sale for gun brass empties and arrows. Works great and using USB rechargeable Li Ion 9v's makes it affordable to run day after day. Depth range is about 1/2 to 2/3 of advertised and target ID is iffy on mine too.
I had the cheapest Whites in the mid '80s. I was mildly focused, dug a lot of old foil gum wrappers, found a little kids change purse c$1.25 total fortune. By digging in old dumps with a screen I've found two small 14k wedding bands, up to a bad Morgan Dollar, one Walking half, record is worn out 1872 Quarter. License tags back to 1915. A little kid would carry a spent slug around as "Something neat". I know I did. WWII was practiced near my home. Out here I've found a c1905 kepi badge, 2d inf. (In town) out here I found a Hawaiian Kingdom c1882 gen svc button.
Good stuff 👍 and yes, I think that it's great for beginners or kids. Awsome at finding alloy and iron. Gotta get to the beach to see how it is on coins and rings that I haven't placed on the ground. And gr8 for travelling, to have some fun with 👍🇺🇸🇭🇲
Thank you for this video. I received this model as a Christmas gift. I can't get it to not tone. Tones all the time. Flower beds, rocks, desert. Tones all the time. Energizers lasted less than 6 hours. Ugh.
I bought a cheapie for kids to play with when out Rock hunting .I have a coffee can full of .45-.70 Army Carbine brass an old Saddle Horn and a couple of pieces of broken harness brass from Wagons ...all surface or close to it ..and artifacts in themselves.
I am shopping for my first MD. Thanks for the video, for sure will get a pinpointer. On a bit of a budget so something like rhis one will fit the bill.
Man I found a 1890 $20 gold liberty with a cheap baseon metal detector has the 10" coil. It wasn't to bad tbh lol we found it in a creek on our farm out here in NC. And i was just playing with it n seeing what I could find and during testing with some.morgans and bullion it detected everything I planted so I decided to take it on a adventure and I be damned I found that 😆 so I kept it around
When I was about 10 I won a cheap radio shack detector from our local western auto store guessing how many jellybeans were in a big jar I’m 54 now. One of the first finds I got with me new detector was a coin spill in my back yard. There was over 10 mercury dimes I believe it was 14 total. My next big finds was really big. It was about 2’x3’ right in the middle of the yard. My friend next door helped me dig it up. It was a engine block buried 2’ down. When my mother got home and saw we had actually gotten it out of the hole and sitting there she was mad😂 And amazed we were able to get it out. Sue them told me to put it back and bury it🤣🤣
Best cheapest detector bar none. Bounty Hunter Tracker IV. A buddy has one has found large cents and IHP's at 7 to 8". Only $79.00 at Hobby Lobby everyday!!!
You can find anything with a $50 detector. A ring 💍 or bracelet. If it’s a couple inches deep maybe 2-6 inches. For a basic search that’s all you need.
Absolutely true!! I found a gold bangle bracelet with the simplex within the first couple of weeks owning it but I bet even a cheap detector would have gotten it because the shape was a perfect circle. Right on man 👍
Looks like a decent beginners detector and the little Army shovel is a decent digging tool. I think the consensus of Military would say that type of shovel works good as they have been in service for years. My wife got me my first detector from fingerhut it is one of those books that sell cheap crappy items and yes it worked but oh my god it was so annoying. I would disagree about getting a cheap pin pointer get a good brand as the cheap ones most of the time are just junk and you want something dependable or just stick to searching without. Just my opinion. I have bought and used some of the cheap ones and none have lasted at all. I have had two Garrett's the original black one and now the Carrot and love them both.
Good points steve and good point about the pinpointer I have had mixed luck with those cheap pinpointers the first one I ever got still works amazing to this day however I got 2 more exactly like it and BOTH always beeped when you turned it upside down even if there was nothing there. So definitely can be lack of quality control in the cheap stuff. Always nice to hear everyones opinion, we all have different experiences good to bring them all together. All in all I would say if the option to save up for a better detector or pinpointer is there definitely do it but if you have a 20 dollar amazon gift card go for one of those cheap pointers it saved me lots and lots of time for sure. Love the garrett carrot 👍 I remember fingerhut when I was younger, I bet I know a few people that still owe them money! 🤣 ah the good days lol! thanks steve
I'm a 16 year old person who's wanting to get into metal detecting. I found a metal detector down at my local tech shop for $159 Aud which also comes bundled with a Pinpointer. It looks exactly like the one in this video but I don't really want to spend a lot on a metal detector. My budget for my first metal detector was $200 Aud but I'm not sure if I should raise the budget a bit more to get a better one.
Sometimes it's better to just do it and get started with what you have to work with 👍 I found a good deal on a second hand name brand detector but you take the risk that something could be wrong with it... good luck man!
I have found sinkers, and a lot of trash, and some coins with a Bounty Hunter Tracker 4 in lawns and parks. Dig every hit. It is just socially responsible to take away the garbage helping care for our shared ecosystem.
They’ll all find stuff, it’s just a matter of how deep and whether or not it can pull good items from dense trash areas. You can also buy cheaper detectors that keep up with the heavy hitters, like the Simplex, Vanquish, and X-Terra Pro. Personally, if I had starting over to do over again, I’d not settle for less than one of those 3.
I can probably agree with you there... those machines you named I think will give a beginner quite a bit of a better experience overall.. but those off-brands will find stuff too.
I have two Ricomax detectors. I really don’t care for the battery box setup. One of the wires broke. Very nice people. They replaced the first one when I contacted them.
The detector would be a good starter for a beginning metal detectorist. I bought my first detector in 1973 and can't remember the price, but remember I found 19 pennies right away.😁. Happy hunting from Grma Smith in SW Kansas 🇺🇸.
It sure is an amazing hobby glad to have started! I still have fun digging up pennies, all about how we look at the situation.. we are outdoors getting some nice exercise enjoying the sunshine 😁 Hope you have a wonderful week✨
I started detecting after my son got a tacklife and it was surprisingly good. 70 dollars and feel in love with it and bought myself a better one. We still use the cheaper one too.
@@TreasureOutdoors I have been magnet fishing also for about 2 years so I am fairly use to picking up trash. But it's cleaning up the environment, so that's a plus. Have already taken the detector out to a few places and had much success. Coins, a gold chain, and the standard fair of bits of metal, wire, bottle caps...and of all things...shell casings.
Simple answer, yes it will find things. It may not work as well, or have the features of more expensive units, but it will work. It's kind of unrealistic to expect a base unit to perform to high end standards. It's like expecting a stock vehicle to compete with a dragster. Not going to happen.

Get a Bounty Hunter Tracker 4. It has a warranty and comes from America.
Dave
I think you've got a great lineup 👍 Thank you for stopping by!
The Ricomax Lincoln Finder!
Learned on this video thank you
Great finds really enjoyed watching
This would be a grest backup to keep in the car just incase you cone across a location and you don't want to keep your expense one in the car
You got me convinced to buy one. Have to save. As soon as I can I will. Thank you so muh. On a budget gets old but I still can't wIt.
This was my first metal detector I liked the layout features and how easy it was to use but would not detect anything past 4 inches on max sensitivity
I have the Yellow version of that detector, it loves iron and targets close to the surface, My grandson loves it, but I seed the yard with coins for him to find. I never have taken it out for a real hunt out in the field, just in my yard for my grandson. ( Just Subbed your channel)
As long as you and him are having fun 😁 It might be worth taking out one day, you just never know! Thanks a bunch for stopping by!
I seed my oun game play lol ( slucie)
haha you're a kind granddad
@@bromisovalum8417 LOL
Have you ever used any Tesoro detectors? They're excellent in junky areas because they have great separation. Of course Tesoro went out of business nearly three years ago, but they're still great back up detectors if you can get one.
Have not gotten a chance to try one but that sounds like a good trait to have, lots of junk in my area! If I ever see one around for a good price used I will likely pick it up. I enjoy trying out different detectors keeps things fun and interesting :)
A good 👍 operator makes them look good!
I think you will find somethings. Pull tabs, bottle tops, wires, change. Good luck.
I've been watching reviews leading up to a purchase. This is better than most, but none are very good to be honest. So I've also been designing tests as I watch. Here's my thoughts. ... cz I won't be doing one. lol
Get a bunch of 5 gallon pails, fill with soils, gravels, rocks.
Peace
You'd any modern metal detector would just crush my 15 year old White's M6...
I’ve been thinking about a detector after watching you tube videos. This may be my starter. Thanks!
And gr8 for travelling, to have some fun with 👍🇺🇸🇭🇲
Very cool! I could have some fun with it
Great instructional video. I have always wondered what a cheap detector would really do
Really good review
Soon you got your money back 😁👍
One penny at a time! 😁
Thank you for this video.
I received this model as a Christmas gift.
I can't get it to not tone. Tones all the time.
Flower beds, rocks, desert. Tones all the time.
Energizers lasted less than 6 hours. Ugh.
Try a Tracker 4. It`s great for shallow coins and has a fast recovery speed. WIFI and nearby power lines can seriously interfere with detectors.
One of the biggest downfalls on those cheaper detectors... the batteries will take you for all you've got!
Worth a go,good way to start off
If you have already been there then I would say it is fine because it still found coins you didn’t find
I bought a cheapie for kids to play with when out Rock hunting .I have a coffee can full of .45-.70 Army Carbine brass an old Saddle Horn and a couple of pieces of broken harness brass from Wagons ...all surface or close to it ..and artifacts in themselves.
I kept fast forwarding, got through it in maybe 3 minutes. Cheers
I am shopping for my first MD. Thanks for the video, for sure will get a pinpointer. On a bit of a budget so something like rhis one will fit the bill.
I. Have the same one, time to take it out and use it.
Dust it off, time to find the goodies!! I keep it realistic... time to go clean up some trash hopefully some goodies pop out of the hole! 🤣
Just got my first detector today, a Sunpow. Can't wait to try it out this weekend
thats good it works so well for $100
i have garratt and minelab detectors, but i only use this on the beach, its great on coins and rings, and light
For $100 you just need one gold ring to break even. Not a bad little set up
When I was about 10 I won a cheap radio shack detector from our local western auto store guessing how many jellybeans were in a big jar
I’m 54 now.
When my mother got home and saw we had actually gotten it out of the hole and sitting there she was mad😂
And amazed we were able to get it out.
Sue them told me to put it back and bury it🤣🤣
Good video, I have been curious about these detectors as well.
Best cheapest detector bar none. Bounty Hunter Tracker IV. A buddy has one has found large cents and IHP's at 7 to 8". Only $79.00 at Hobby Lobby everyday!!!
For the Al Gore rhythm.
To me it definitely sounds better than the Simplex.
Right on man 👍
Reminds me of my Garrett Ace 350. If I didn't already have that one, I'd get it...
I've done this park many times , you get enough sprinkler heads they add up lol
Seems like a good coin and relic detector at a good price i think im going to get one
Fun! 💕👵
@@TreasureOutdoors Thank you
I have an ace250 by garrettand it is awesome for me after a stroke, im really looking forward to getting out and hunting god bless the hu t,
Mike
I also have a Garrett Ace 200 it's a great little detector. Hope you are well, thanks Michael.
*_Went from a Bounty Hunter 101 - Fisher F4 - Nox 800._*
Thank you this was really helpful😊
I have found sinkers, and a lot of trash, and some coins with a Bounty Hunter Tracker 4 in lawns and parks. Dig every hit. It is just socially responsible to take away the garbage helping care for our shared ecosystem.
I'm gonna go throw 50 pennies in all the playgrounds in the city.
Sweet! Surprisingly they work great.
To be honest kind of surprised me too! Did better than I expected... always a fun curiosity :)
DIG all tones is best pollicy. This detector seems to work well. I'd own it!
What would be the best kind of cheap metal detectors that you recommend?
When I was 15 I got a simple little Tandy metal detector for Christmas in 1985. You ought of seen the stuff I found with that machine!!
perseverance is key
Thats good to hear about the company Lorhetta!
Look, we all know you will be honest, OK. Need not repeat it. Like your videos.
I started detecting after my son got a tacklife and it was surprisingly good. 70 dollars and feel in love with it and bought myself a better one. We still use the cheaper one too.
I think a few pennies would be a good staet for kids,
Seems like someone threw a hand full of Pennies out. Lol
Men I'm very excited😁🤗😍😝 can't wait here
very cool video...thank you for making a very valuable lesson or motivation...healthy greetings and success always...thank you.
thank you for watching 😊
Nice job on the latest videos! # polished!
Thanks a bunch, appreciate it!!
I currently have the md3010ii and its not too bad. Does the job for now
If it's finding metal it is working pretty good in my eyes 😁
I just ordered mine today. THEN I watched your video. Feel very confident in my purchase. It arrives tomorrow.
I hope you've had some luck with it! All about getting familiar and being OK with digging some trash 👍
Yes i want one for my beginning
