Was plesantly surprised about the detector. I will say this however: I am 62 in a few months. I have learned that going for the cheap things in life can be discouraging. If you are getting into a hobby, spend the most amount you can afford. If you just go cheap then the chances are you will get discouraged and quit. It happens often. I was into metal detecting in the 70's and then had a military career followed by marine repair shops until I was disabled to the point that I cannot work now. I repicked up the hobby a couple of years ago and studied a lot. I wanted to not break the bank after all. Disability is not that much lol. Anyway, I was actually going for this exact or something very similar to it as my first detector. BIt then studied more. I ended up waiting a few months and saved up to get the vanquish 540 kit with the extra coil and accessories, bought another pinpointer (the 200 ft depth waterproof pulsedive pinpointer so I use that along with the minelab 20 that came with my 540 kit. Between them they are amazing. I learned the software in the 540 is basically the same as the nox 6 and 800 , just without as many bells and whistles. I knew I would want another detector as well for family and self. Something waterproof. So I started saving 2 years ago and was able to get the new Manticore... WOW! What a machine but with a steep learning curve. Maybe unlearning curve is more like it. So many think it is not grreat becasue they have a nox 800. The problem is, one is not the same as the other and you have to unlearn some things. lol Anyway, now I have been rambling. All I meant to say is get the best that you can afford and do not go cheap. Get someting like this AFTER you have a great machine and do comparisons then... If it is good, detect with your kids or wife or hubby doo. Have fun and do not give up....Update, guys n gals, I am not saying spend thousands, just spend what you can afford. There are great detectors out there for not a lot of cash, vanquish has a great 340 I think for 200. So does a few others. I just hated spending a hundred or two only to then spend more and then more on upgrading so that in the end I would spend more than just getting a fantastic on e in the first place... Make sense?
I started with an Amazon detector, it was a Sunpow that I got for Christmas and I bought a Simplex a few months later. The cheap ones are ok to find out if you really like the hobby, but you will spend more money once you decide you like it.
I agree with you Joe 100%. I really don't think I would be into the hobby today if I hadn't started with a cheap detector. Some people go for the big boys first but I'm glad I started with a cheap detector because without knowing if I liked the hobby I wouldn't have been willing to spend $200+ to find out.
I've had a few cheap detectors over the years. They are getting better. Soon they'll be as good as the expensive machines. I think you should note that there are a couple of features that are better on this cheap machine than, say a Garrett ace 250. It has backlit display, the control box is easy to attach, no screws to lose, it has cam locks on the control arm and a free digging tool. Also, it works. The main way to find lots of stuff is to detect where there is lots of stuff.
I got introduced to the hobby when I was around 10 years old, I still have that machine. It’s a Tiny Tex made by D-TEX. Left the hobby until about 4 months ago when I bought a Fisher F44. After about $4 dollars in change and 3 pounds of aluminum pull tabs , I finally found a standing liberty quarter and a gold chain with a gold pendant. Got the fever now. LoL ..
Awesome!!!! My first "HOOK" was a tiny gold ring in my own front yard within a week of detecting... it's hard to put it down after that! But recently... not much gold has been showing itself 🤣 Stilll a really great hobby overall 👍
In 79 i brought a cheap bounty hunter on sale for 89 bucks, two days later i found a 1925 indian Buffalo nickel, sold it 8 years ago for 1,500 dollars!!!
I literally have that detector...but in yellow...and I'm just starting out to see how I like the hobby and if I should buy a more expensive one...so far I'm liking the hobby...haven't found anything "great" but it works
If you keep at it you will end up popping something good out of the ground! Plus we are at least getting exercise and having fun right :) I will say a cheap detector can find the goods but a more expensive one makes it a lot easier and a more enjoyable experience. If you like the hobby I think it's worth taking it to the next step! Or you could save up enough quarters to buy a new detector! haha it's all in good fun 👍
@@airot1987 You’ll just never know when you find that beautiful gold Diamond ring that will pay for your detector and get you closer to your next upgrade.
Thanks for sharing this information on this detector. Would be a great starter unit to have here at the property for the young nephews and nieces to use to get into the hobby.
I enjoyed the video. Was curious as to how a 100 dollar detector would perform now days. Started out with a couple of cheap ones that I bought at yard sales etc. But finally steeped it up with a new Garrett several years ago. Don't recall model. Not there top of the line but was a lot of money to me. Just wanted to say here, I can't knock bounty hunter though. I now have a bounty hunter time ranger, the original version. I got it from amazon. At the time the time ranger had been discontinued but available on amazon and I got a great price on it. My understanding is that it was bounty hunter's flag ship detector up until just before then. I still have it and love it. It is awesome! It is feature rich and I watched and read a lot on the time ranger and put in the time learning the machine. It was worth it. I love it.
An old boss from the 80s Metal Detected and it was a Hobby that took him many places. His advice with his fancy expensive metal detector was DIG EVERYTHING no matter what. I have seen his collections of treasures and He has amazing finds. Dig Everything my friends.
I used a bounty hunter platinum alongside a guy using an xp deus. I dug more coins on the same park as him. I'm not saying the bh platinum is a better detector than a deus lol, but it really matters on the person swinging the detector. If your starting out, get a detector, any of them, and stick with it for a while. Get to know the machine. You are the biggest variable in this hobby. And you don't cost a penny. Just practice, dig Everything in the beginning to understand what the machine is detecting, and enjoy yourself!
P A S S 👍🏽 No metal detector will find anything if nothing is there to find. It’s a pretty good detector for beginners and kids. Thanks for the demonstration. 👊🏽
Hawa'n Rock: thanks I've needed that I'm retired and need some kind of hobby metal detecting was my first option so thanks for the insight on a pretty decent envestment to start with. I'm moving back home to Hawaii so tumbs up for you bro.....mahalo (Rocky)
bought this kind recently, starting to learn how this works. Searching for videos about this detector and found your video. Atlast! You showed me how to use it, after a month I can finally use it properly. I recently used it and the sound was everywhere. (never know the use of pinpoint) I've learned how to filter(put X mark) on things I don't want to dig. Thanks for this vid :)
I have pretty much the exact same detector. It isn't too bad, I'm still learning its peculiarities. The little folding digging tool has actually impressed me. I figured it would break right away... Nope, it has held up and is still going strong.
Nice review. I'm looking for a cheap detector for a trip coming up. This looks like a decent machine for the price. I really like that you were open minded about it going into the test. Thank you for the info.
i recently bought my 5 year old son a cheap amazon detector. i believe it was made by omno or something. the one you tried out in this video seems alot better. the one my son has is real slow its like its on a delay and it also doesnt give consistent numbers over same target. wish i would have bought that one. none the less my son still has fun and am super happy hes interested in metal detecting
I've been watching reviews leading up to a purchase. This is better than most, but none are very good to be honest. So I've also been designing tests as I watch. Here's my thoughts. ... cz I won't be doing one. lol Get a bunch of 5 gallon pails, fill with soils, gravels, rocks. Some with layers of 2 or 3 of the strata. Have a hose handy, then repeat them under water. Different variations can be done, metals etc. and have some bigger rocks, and put the coins under them directly, and on some pails. Also have a control unit for comparison, like the best one you own. Put the same material at different heights in different materials. Also make the rocks and gravels varieties which have high metallic content. Sun, shade temperature? Idk if any of that affects it, i.e. reflection off rocks maybe. Battery quality, time vs. features vs. usage. Coil flexibility, like can you put different coils, would you want to, can quality be improved with new coil. For me, important is, the priority components and stats a pro would look at if buying a gift for a beginner. Idk detectors but as an example, PCs, we'd look at RAM, HDD, SSD, processor Hz and cores, the rest is personal choices tailored to your needs, which you can't address everyone's needs in a review. Then you only have to decide what to spend, and when to stop wanting better quality cz you have good quality basics. .. You, know, for detectors, maybe, 'You don't want a nickel or aluminum coil, they suck. Make sure it is a copper, and at least 700nnm. But really, you should find a 12nnm or better. and a indication spectrum analyzer... lol, just made it up, but you get it. That's the review I need on any product, most don't do it. Peace
Have you ever used any Tesoro detectors? They're excellent in junky areas because they have great separation. Of course Tesoro went out of business nearly three years ago, but they're still great back up detectors if you can get one.
Have not gotten a chance to try one but that sounds like a good trait to have, lots of junk in my area! If I ever see one around for a good price used I will likely pick it up. I enjoy trying out different detectors keeps things fun and interesting :)
Best cheapest detector bar none. Bounty Hunter Tracker IV. A buddy has one has found large cents and IHP's at 7 to 8". Only $79.00 at Hobby Lobby everyday!!!
Thank you for this video. I received this model as a Christmas gift. I can't get it to not tone. Tones all the time. Flower beds, rocks, desert. Tones all the time. Energizers lasted less than 6 hours. Ugh.
Looks like an easy to use entry level detector. I would use it in tot lots and other areas where depth or separation is not a big issue. I started with a Radio Shack (Bounty Hunter) machine 20 years ago. Now I still have the Radio shack, a Simplex+ and my Vanquish 440. I have a friend that wants to start metal detecting, I would let him use it as a first detector...... Dave
I bought a bounty hunter land ranger pro a while back, for around $200. I can tell you I would've rather spent $100 and got one of those off brand ones on Amazon. You try to put the sensitivity all the way up you get a lot of beeping/chatter. Very shortly after I bought a Fisher F75, and a Minelab Vanquish 540 (that Ive yet to use since I been taking the F75 everywhere). The F75 I can crank sensitivity up as high as it'll go and it is very quiet. Found a lot of civil war relics with it.
The Land Ranger Pro competes well with the AT Pro in depth. You only run them at full sensitivity if you can. If it chatters turn sensitivity down. Some detectors don`t do well around power lines, WIFI, etc. There are some amazing 100 dollar (or less) Bounty Hunter detectors. See the Fast Tracker. Hits silver dimes deep.
I got myself a metal detector from amazon a couple of days ago for 43 euros and within the first half hour, i found a 5 german mark coin, a saw, a drill bit, a metal pipe fitting connector, a pocket knife and lots of screws.
What's the best detector at the $100, $200, & $300 price range? I am brand new to this and my daughter wants to try this,, and I have been wanting to too, for a while now. Any advice is appreciated.
Lots of good machines out there, I hear the bounty hunter series is good for under $100. In my own experience around $200 the "Minelab Vanquish" is a pretty great starter machine as well as the "garrett ace 200" or even the "Nokta Simplex"👍I also hear some good choices for young kids are the "midi hoard" or the "go-find" GOOD LUCK!!
I am a 100% noobie to detecting, I just bought Hazlwolke 1031, I paid $140cdn on Amazon, I love it! I found some old coins in my yard the very first time i ever detected with any detector
Got one at $79 on sale for gun brass empties and arrows. Works great and using USB rechargeable Li Ion 9v's makes it affordable to run day after day. Depth range is about 1/2 to 2/3 of advertised and target ID is iffy on mine too.
I had the cheapest Whites in the mid '80s. I was mildly focused, dug a lot of old foil gum wrappers, found a little kids change purse c$1.25 total fortune. By digging in old dumps with a screen I've found two small 14k wedding bands, up to a bad Morgan Dollar, one Walking half, record is worn out 1872 Quarter. License tags back to 1915. A little kid would carry a spent slug around as "Something neat". I know I did. WWII was practiced near my home. Out here I've found a c1905 kepi badge, 2d inf. (In town) out here I found a Hawaiian Kingdom c1882 gen svc button.
Hey! Can i ask a question i have MD-3028 it's like same, but these 7 rectangle first means iron but what other 6 means and how do you know that it's penny or coin please tell. Thank you❤
Looks like a decent beginners detector and the little Army shovel is a decent digging tool. I think the consensus of Military would say that type of shovel works good as they have been in service for years. My wife got me my first detector from fingerhut it is one of those books that sell cheap crappy items and yes it worked but oh my god it was so annoying. I would disagree about getting a cheap pin pointer get a good brand as the cheap ones most of the time are just junk and you want something dependable or just stick to searching without. Just my opinion. I have bought and used some of the cheap ones and none have lasted at all. I have had two Garrett's the original black one and now the Carrot and love them both.
Good points steve and good point about the pinpointer I have had mixed luck with those cheap pinpointers the first one I ever got still works amazing to this day however I got 2 more exactly like it and BOTH always beeped when you turned it upside down even if there was nothing there. So definitely can be lack of quality control in the cheap stuff. Always nice to hear everyones opinion, we all have different experiences good to bring them all together. All in all I would say if the option to save up for a better detector or pinpointer is there definitely do it but if you have a 20 dollar amazon gift card go for one of those cheap pointers it saved me lots and lots of time for sure. Love the garrett carrot 👍 I remember fingerhut when I was younger, I bet I know a few people that still owe them money! 🤣 ah the good days lol! thanks steve
I am shopping for my first MD. Thanks for the video, for sure will get a pinpointer. On a bit of a budget so something like rhis one will fit the bill.
I bought a cheapie for kids to play with when out Rock hunting .I have a coffee can full of .45-.70 Army Carbine brass an old Saddle Horn and a couple of pieces of broken harness brass from Wagons ...all surface or close to it ..and artifacts in themselves.
The detector would be a good starter for a beginning metal detectorist. I bought my first detector in 1973 and can't remember the price, but remember I found 19 pennies right away.😁. Happy hunting from Grma Smith in SW Kansas 🇺🇸.
It sure is an amazing hobby glad to have started! I still have fun digging up pennies, all about how we look at the situation.. we are outdoors getting some nice exercise enjoying the sunshine 😁 Hope you have a wonderful week✨
I have the Yellow version of that detector, it loves iron and targets close to the surface, My grandson loves it, but I seed the yard with coins for him to find. I never have taken it out for a real hunt out in the field, just in my yard for my grandson. ( Just Subbed your channel)
@@TreasureOutdoors I use the Simplex+ or the Garrett Ace 250 with the 8.5 x 11 DD performance coil for hunting, my grandson has the MD1011 (Yellow machine like yours) or the Minelab Go Find44 when he goes with me, he likes the MD1011 most of the time, The Go Find 44 is really new to him and he's not use to it yet.
I have used a Simplex for around 2 years and there are very few things I can say bad about it. It's got a great name in the community for just being a great bang for your buck machine. I personally really like it with the "SP24" coil, great for parks! Honestly never have used the Quest line but I do hear a few people saying they enjoy them. I say go with your gut!
When I was about 10 I won a cheap radio shack detector from our local western auto store guessing how many jellybeans were in a big jar I’m 54 now. One of the first finds I got with me new detector was a coin spill in my back yard. There was over 10 mercury dimes I believe it was 14 total. My next big finds was really big. It was about 2’x3’ right in the middle of the yard. My friend next door helped me dig it up. It was a engine block buried 2’ down. When my mother got home and saw we had actually gotten it out of the hole and sitting there she was mad😂 And amazed we were able to get it out. Sue them told me to put it back and bury it🤣🤣
I'm a 16 year old person who's wanting to get into metal detecting. I found a metal detector down at my local tech shop for $159 Aud which also comes bundled with a Pinpointer. It looks exactly like the one in this video but I don't really want to spend a lot on a metal detector. My budget for my first metal detector was $200 Aud but I'm not sure if I should raise the budget a bit more to get a better one.
Sometimes it's better to just do it and get started with what you have to work with 👍 I found a good deal on a second hand name brand detector but you take the risk that something could be wrong with it... good luck man!
After all that, lol, I thought the penny was poetic. And then, lmao, you immediately reinforced that, wit the 'let's get goin, 10 mins, yadda yadda", cz it was exactly 10 mins, lol. ... a poetic penny. Close chapter 1. Chapter 2 - Penny Dreadful lol
Thanks for the demo of the A-typical amazon detector. I personally would not go near them. I would save a little bit more, just wait one month and buy a Garrett ACE or whatever bottom range detectors you can get from a specialist company over there in the US. I feel people who do get into the hobby with one of those will end up 'buying twice' sooner rather than later. I struggle encouraging people to by 'Chinese designed' products, usually they are copies of copies with a no-name brand sticker slapped on it. No measure of quality or testing, one Ricomax detector may work better or worse than the next Ricomax detector. Honestly thanks for the demo though. Reinforces my thoughts on them. Looking forward to your next video :) Can the Ricomax find a gold or silver ring at decent depth? :)
At the end of the day I do agree with you, the thing I will say is sometimes saving up won't be an option especially for the younger gen who might want one as a present. Sometimes it's either 100 bucks take it or leave it and I would say in that case I would rather have this detector than nothing at all. I started with an old school no screen just knobs garrett I snagged at a garage sale for $3 and I probably used it 3 or 4 times and it did end up in the closet but what it did for me was expand my interest in the hobby and I started learning about all the different machines on the market / people involved in it and from there I was hooked! I appreciate it dave 👍 I'm definitely interested in testing it a bit further, see if it's possible to even beep over a gold ring 🤣 A family did approach me while I was unboxing it and said they had one just like it but didnt know how to use it so I bet there are a lot of these in closets around the world lol
I actually have 2 of the cheap Amazon detectors and I agree they are definitely beginner strength anyone can get lucky but no comparison at all between the Vanquish 440 or Nokta Simplex for that matter...interesting u just happened upon one that I initially bought before gettn the good ones
I appreciate it Donald, they definitely beep! But those more expensive machines definitely make life easier out there. Thanks a bunch for checking this one out, I've always been curious how those cheaper amazon detectors work!
Good stuff 👍 and yes, I think that it's great for beginners or kids. Awsome at finding alloy and iron. Gotta get to the beach to see how it is on coins and rings that I haven't placed on the ground. And gr8 for travelling, to have some fun with 👍🇺🇸🇭🇲
I started detecting after my son got a tacklife and it was surprisingly good. 70 dollars and feel in love with it and bought myself a better one. We still use the cheaper one too.
Man I found a 1890 $20 gold liberty with a cheap baseon metal detector has the 10" coil. It wasn't to bad tbh lol we found it in a creek on our farm out here in NC. And i was just playing with it n seeing what I could find and during testing with some.morgans and bullion it detected everything I planted so I decided to take it on a adventure and I be damned I found that 😆 so I kept it around
They’ll all find stuff, it’s just a matter of how deep and whether or not it can pull good items from dense trash areas. You can also buy cheaper detectors that keep up with the heavy hitters, like the Simplex, Vanquish, and X-Terra Pro. Personally, if I had starting over to do over again, I’d not settle for less than one of those 3.
I can probably agree with you there... those machines you named I think will give a beginner quite a bit of a better experience overall.. but those off-brands will find stuff too.
I have found sinkers, and a lot of trash, and some coins with a Bounty Hunter Tracker 4 in lawns and parks. Dig every hit. It is just socially responsible to take away the garbage helping care for our shared ecosystem.
@@TreasureOutdoors I have been magnet fishing also for about 2 years so I am fairly use to picking up trash. But it's cleaning up the environment, so that's a plus. Have already taken the detector out to a few places and had much success. Coins, a gold chain, and the standard fair of bits of metal, wire, bottle caps...and of all things...shell casings.
I have this one £65 of amazon its now 75 I took it to a Park an found a 9ct lady ring with a fake diamond in it argos ring or something u no I've also found 27p a few screws a wooden bed leg half a paint can with can out of 4 different holes about 20 can pull things the pinpointer is good the battery last about 4 5 hours no headphones definitely turn the sensitivity down to 3 maybe 4 bars. I rate it for the price u will definitely find stuff dig up every beeb I've just bought a pinpointer to speed up the finds hopefully
My first detector was a Radio Shack cheap-o.... It was very good at finding pull tabs and other trash like, bottle caps and old syringes,(a public beach on the central CA beaches)... That was about It for my metal detecting career...I took it back and got a full refund as it was in immaculate condition...I'm not dedicated enough to shell out the big bucks for a top of the line detector... Too old (74) for hours of walking around In the soft sand... like watching the real guys finding real stuff with a ring or jewelry every now and then... For me, it's a spectator sport nowadays... Thanks for letting me tag along.🙏🌹🕊️
Seemingly even those top of the line detectors still love finding the trash! Definitely a hobby that needs lots of optimism and persistence... thanks a bunch Philip.
I have two Ricomax detectors. I really don’t care for the battery box setup. One of the wires broke. Very nice people. They replaced the first one when I contacted them.
I got the separate pin pointer, but the little built in pin Pointer on the vanquish is amazing! I finally switched over. First I tried an Amazon pancky brand with a built in pin pointer, and it was literally trash! The problem with the amazon brands like this one, is they are no good on beach, wet sand.
Great video bro. I just got a 120 detector off of Amazon and wondered about its efficacy. I figured I’d give the el cheapo a go and if I liked it, I’ll get a better one.
I started with an MD3010II and it is very similar to this detector. You can search quite nicely with it and definitely recommended as a beginner detector. The only thing that is difficult, and you can see that in your video, is the reaction speed. It is very difficult to determine the location without using the pinpoint button. Nice video again and I'm curious about the comparison with, for example, the Simplex. I already sold mine so can't do it myself anymore.
We all have to start somewhere! I would rather start with a cheap one than never start at all 👍 You are right about the recovery speed, that is where the simplex REALLY shines. Would be cool to do some tests to compare, we both know who the winner would be but it would be nice to know how much performance is gained vs lost when comparing the price point!
Awesome man! I found my first gold with a cheap detector too, it was a garrett ace 200! Sometimes a better machine doesn't always mean better finds, sometimes we just have to be at the right place at the right time. Hope you still have a detector!! 🤠
For a $100 get a bounty hunter tracker 4. They're not pretty or fancy but they're rock solid for the price. There are people who have found lots of rings on beaches using it and considering it's price it more than pays for itself.
Mine is vibration shock sensitive . Point mine at the ground and with a slight shake it beeps . I have tk be steady gentle swinging it around . Each detectition beep is 2 beeps . High and low beep in a pair . At first try i thougjt it just kept beeping and beeping and could not find a keyring on the driveway . But i think i am getting the hang of it . Cement might interfere.
Simple answer, yes it will find things. It may not work as well, or have the features of more expensive units, but it will work. It's kind of unrealistic to expect a base unit to perform to high end standards. It's like expecting a stock vehicle to compete with a dragster. Not going to happen.
It is what it is. A detector that can get someone either hooked in the hobby or not. As for s cheap pin pointer I would suggest the GP pointer. For a starter pointer. Cheap enough and will get the job done. Nice field review on this Detector .. I will be interested in the gaw
I agree dan, sometimes it makes me think both ways would this detector make someone give up on the hobby? Or would this detector give someone a chance that would have never had a chance otherwise to try the hobby and get hooked... in my experience I am the second case. I got a super cheap detector first (don't think I would have ever forked out $250 bucks without trying the hobby first) sat in the closet for a while but it sparked my interest in learning about the other detectors on the market and really got me into the metal detecting community here on YT. DEFINITELY not gonna be used much but I will have the one I used in the video to giveaway also if I choose. Maybe I can keep it in the trunk and do something like you did, once a kid starts to follow me around for enough time and show enough interest I will pull out the ricomax and send it their way. 😊 Gonna drag it out to the beach for a few minutes on my next hunt, see how it acts out there. Appreciate you stopping in!!
@@TreasureOutdoors I started out with the tracker 4 and was hooked right away.. used it for a couple yrs and bought the ace 250 Still used the tk4 on the beach .. Until last yr when i bought the Nox. 600. I think if You handed it over to a child of course ask parents First would be an awesome thing to do.. I have one more detector to Give Away for next summers run..
Neat! I’m going to take the Radio Shack VLF (no digital screen, you bet your a**) detector I bought in the early nineties when my son was about 7 and do a side by side with my Nox 600 with 6” coil and see what happens. Wish me luck!
I used only bounty hunter's for 22 years till I got the simplex. Never looked back. Its probably a great detector to start with tho, upgrade immenent...
YEP! Glad you decided to upgrade 💪 From what I could tell it didn't do too shabby on the coins but I'm curious to see how it reacts to a gold ring or jewelry under the ground. I can almost bet it doesn't beep on an earring!
Just start with a 540 vanquish lol tones on the simplex are horrible its only single frequency and EMI interference is disgusting lol. If you want water proof than the simplex would be a good start if you don't care about water hunting vanquish over simplex anyday!
I'm glad I live in a country older than 4000 years. We regularly find medieval coins, occassionally Roman coins. You guys won't expect to find much more than pennies, bullets, and various ring pulls through the ages since 1965.
In the areas I hunt you're right, not a lot of obtainable history in modern parks but it's still fun no matter what I'm finding. You'll have to bring me out to the historic sites for some real fun.. 👍😌
@@TreasureOutdoors Then again we have so many rules on where you can and can't detect. Can't do it on public or council owned land, and not on known archaeological sites. Basically you need to get permission from a private landowner. If you do find a potential archaeological treasure, it has to be declared by law. Coins and stuff is usually okay, unless you're lucky enough to find a hoard, then that has to be declared. I've picked up a few medieval coins (Edward groats), but one of the first people who got me into detecting found a Saxon coin from King Aethelred's reign...10th century! I'm still hopeful of finding a Roman coin some day, though a hoard would be better. :)
Men they never read they never read the instructions.
NEVER!!!!!!!!!!! Tempted me for about three quarters of a second.
I must be exceptional, I always read instruction manuals :) LOL
@@TreasureOutdoors 😂🤣😂🤣
Lucky if you get a user manual . No instructions with my minelab. Got them with my Noktas .

Anyway, now I have been rambling.
@@TreasureOutdoors starting with an expensive one you miss out on the fun of upgrading
I 💜 the simplex
Yup! I did the same. Bought an Amazon. After 2 weeks, returned and bought a vanquish lol
Awesome to hear stories like that! Never know what you'll find.. that's what keeps me going. 👍
@@TreasureOutdoors all true...I think I'm going to work my way up on the detectors price wise...there's so much to learn...
@@airot1987 You’ll just never know when you find that beautiful gold Diamond ring that will pay for your detector and get you closer to your next upgrade.
A Fisher F11 is a good tight budget upgrade.
Same here! I've found all kinds of stuff. Coins, nails, etc. I'm just starting out and I'm loving it!
I agreee 100% with that, you've gotta be out there putting that detector to work no matter what it is! 👍
P A S S 👍🏽
No metal detector will find anything if nothing is there to find. It’s a pretty good detector for beginners and kids.
Thanks for the demonstration. 👊🏽
Great assessment, location is a big factor of success!
Good test.....if those pennies were quarters or dimes I'm sure the Rico would have slammed them......for $100 it's a good start up detector
Nice evaluation of the RicoMax. I have the Nox 800. The Rico would be good just to have around. 👍👍
Wish you luck out there! Hope you find the goods :)
I have pretty much the exact same detector. It isn't too bad, I'm still learning its peculiarities.
The little folding digging tool has actually impressed me. I figured it would break right away... Nope, it has held up and is still going strong.
It's no Simplex, but would be a decent back-up or share for a friend new to the hobby. Stay safe and keep digging.
Nice review. I'm looking for a cheap detector for a trip coming up. This looks like a decent machine for the price. I really like that you were open minded about it going into the test. Thank you for the info.
Thank you for stopping in!
i recently bought my 5 year old son a cheap amazon detector. i believe it was made by omno or something. the one you tried out in this video seems alot better. the one my son has is real slow its like its on a delay and it also doesnt give consistent numbers over same target. wish i would have bought that one. none the less my son still has fun and am super happy hes interested in metal detecting
Get a Bounty Hunter Tracker 4. It has a warranty and comes from America.
Keep testing the Detectors and giving an honest opinion
I've been watching reviews leading up to a purchase. This is better than most, but none are very good to be honest. So I've also been designing tests as I watch. Here's my thoughts. ... cz I won't be doing one. lol
Get a bunch of 5 gallon pails, fill with soils, gravels, rocks.
Ugh.
Try a Tracker 4. It`s great for shallow coins and has a fast recovery speed. WIFI and nearby power lines can seriously interfere with detectors.
One of the biggest downfalls on those cheaper detectors... the batteries will take you for all you've got!
Dave
I think you've got a great lineup 👍 Thank you for stopping by!
I got myself a metal detector from amazon a couple of days ago for 43 euros and within the first half hour, i found a 5 german mark coin, a saw, a drill bit, a metal pipe fitting connector, a pocket knife and lots of screws.
cheap does the job sometimes
Shoot! That's gotta be worth at least a few Euros right there. Thing is paying for itself!
Does it detect stainless steel???
I have the same detector, and its great at finding aluminium cans, staples and bottle tops !
Very much enjoy your videos and how thorough you are in what your doing and looking for with the signals you get.
This was my first metal detector I liked the layout features and how easy it was to use but would not detect anything past 4 inches on max sensitivity
You got me convinced to buy one. Have to save. As soon as I can I will. Thank you so muh. On a budget gets old but I still can't wIt.
As long as you and him are having fun 😁 It might be worth taking out one day, you just never know! Thanks a bunch for stopping by!

When I was 15 I got a simple little Tandy metal detector for Christmas in 1985. You ought of seen the stuff I found with that machine!!
perseverance is key
Honesty is the best policy... Thank you!
Would it make any difference to put a better coil on something like this, and would it work?
Unrelated but I have a question. I have a Fisher F44 and have been considering a Simplex+ or the Quest Q30. What’s your input ?
I have used a Simplex for around 2 years and there are very few things I can say bad about it. It's got a great name in the community for just being a great bang for your buck machine. I personally really like it with the "SP24" coil, great for parks! Honestly never have used the Quest line but I do hear a few people saying they enjoy them. I say go with your gut!
Great instructional video. I have always wondered what a cheap detector would really do
When I was about 10 I won a cheap radio shack detector from our local western auto store guessing how many jellybeans were in a big jar
I’m 54 now.
When my mother got home and saw we had actually gotten it out of the hole and sitting there she was mad😂
And amazed we were able to get it out.
@@TreasureOutdoors Thank you
After all that, lol, I thought the penny was poetic.
I appreciate it dave 👍 I'm definitely interested in testing it a bit further, see if it's possible to even beep over a gold ring 🤣
A family did approach me while I was unboxing it and said they had one just like it but didnt know how to use it so I bet there are a lot of these in closets around the world lol

Did you ever make a followup or comparison video?
I wasn't able to find one.
And gr8 for travelling, to have some fun with 👍🇺🇸🇭🇲
which one do u guys recommend 150 dollar budget
This video proves...you don't need to spend thousands of dollars on a metal detector to find targets.
I'm gonna go throw 50 pennies in all the playgrounds in the city.
This would be a grest backup to keep in the car just incase you cone across a location and you don't want to keep your expense one in the car
Good video, I have been curious about these detectors as well.
DIG all tones is best pollicy. This detector seems to work well. I'd own it!
I have found sinkers, and a lot of trash, and some coins with a Bounty Hunter Tracker 4 in lawns and parks. Dig every hit. It is just socially responsible to take away the garbage helping care for our shared ecosystem.
I just ordered mine today. THEN I watched your video. Feel very confident in my purchase. It arrives tomorrow.
I hope you've had some luck with it! All about getting familiar and being OK with digging some trash 👍
Awesome to hear input from someone that use it often! Nice score on the ring!! 👍
i have garratt and minelab detectors, but i only use this on the beach, its great on coins and rings, and light
I've done this park many times , you get enough sprinkler heads they add up lol
Fun time Lucky find guy..
Thats good to hear about the company Lorhetta!
How are you liking the Vanquish? I think it's a big upgrade to these off brands.. like you said, these can't really handle the beach that well..
Great video bro. I just got a 120 detector off of Amazon and wondered about its efficacy. I figured I’d give the el cheapo a go and if I liked it, I’ll get a better one.
I would answer that brother. I would do this for the sattle for the mention of it. menor
Get a Bounty Hunter Tracker 4. It has a warranty and comes from America.
Awesome video. I started with a cheaper metal detector and found gold. Sold the metal detector and sure miss the old one. Thanks
Awesome man! I found my first gold with a cheap detector too, it was a garrett ace 200! Sometimes a better machine doesn't always mean better finds, sometimes we just have to be at the right place at the right time. Hope you still have a detector!! 🤠
@@TreasureOutdoors I had the first bounty hunter that came out

ITS PERFECT,SOUND WISE!!
I have an old one my dad use to use on the beach it has only frustrated me its probably 40 years old and I really don't know how it works
For a $100 get a bounty hunter tracker 4. They're not pretty or fancy but they're rock solid for the price. There are people who have found lots of rings on beaches using it and considering it's price it more than pays for itself.
Good demonstration. I can't tell you how many bullets I've found in and around total lots.
I am right there with you, kind of baffles me. Found a complete unfired today, interesting!
Really good review
Soon you got your money back 😁👍
One penny at a time! 😁
What would be the best kind of cheap metal detectors that you recommend?
Gonna drag it out to the beach for a few minutes on my next hunt, see how it acts out there.
Yeeeeaah!! You never know! Radio shack might take the win! 🔥
If you want water proof than the simplex would be a good start if you don't care about water hunting vanquish over simplex anyday!
if you can recommend the cheapest but best detector on Amazon which one would it be
just a beginner but I also want to find stuff
Maybe a bounty hunter tracker less than $100 I've heard lots of people say good things about them 👍
For $100 better off with a Tracker 4
I think you will find somethings. Pull tabs, bottle tops, wires, change. Good luck.
I wanted you to show the shirt you were wearing in that video. Looks cool!
It's a NASA shirt, I agree! Love the design and colors :) Also space is incredibly interesting!
I have an ace250 by garrettand it is awesome for me after a stroke, im really looking forward to getting out and hunting god bless the hu t,
Mike
I also have a Garrett Ace 200 it's a great little detector. Hope you are well, thanks Michael.
