Amazing vid! made me appreciate Chrollo more. His character is really intriguing. I was hoping you would explain his recent change of view. For someone who doesn’t believe in free will, he doesn’t act like it. Or does he believe his actions to be out of his control and without his agency? I really can’t tell.
That's a very good question. Though Chrollo believes in determinism, he acts with purpose, and has found something worth preserving. Since the world is essentially pointless, he acts in defiance of all social structures. He is at peace with the idea of fate, but acts with purpose despite that. Chrollo very much wants to be the one kill hisoka now, as he has not only killed his troupe members, but denied them any proper closure or the chance of a selfless action like with Uvogin and Pakunoda. This goes against the very point they have for living, as the troupe was made for their lives and deaths to have meaning, fighting with all they have against the world around them. This, combined with the fact that the troupe being wiped out is very much a reality, has caused a change in chrollo. I can only hope that we'll be able to see where it goes from here.
@@notachainuser6001 well it's emotional case. Chrollo may belive in determenism and have interesting philosophy etc, but in face of loss something extrimely important any philosophy ruins. He thinks only about revenge for dead friends and defense for those who alive. No matter what it costs
I always thought chrollo was a poorly written character that didn’t rlly have complexity or depth but this analysis rlly gave me a new insight on his character
There is a lack of information here. In a way of trying to understand this amazing group. Take for example. First of all, they only steal from criminals, mafia members, mafia partners of various kinds. 2. They always always try to help their hometown. Their hometown is very, very poor. 3. Of course the most important. The story behind the group is their past why they are heroes strong people. I heartily recommend looking and understanding their history in the manga. A group of children to whom the world was cruel and they were not ready to give up but were ready to stand up and fight. PS I have nothing but admiration for such people. By the way, I'm probably the only one who thinks so.
You forgot about their cruelity and ruthlessness towards Kurta people including torturing children in front of their parents to turn their scarlet eyes from original black eyes and pluge them out of flesh mentioned in one shot manga by Togashi. They don't even mind at all about killing innocent citizens who had nothing to do with them to accomplish their thefts. Also don't forget how Chrollo controlled mass audiences to go after Hisoka and used people as decoys for Hisoka killing spree for him to blend into mass during Chrollo vs Hisoka in Heaven arena. Still that doesn't manage to stop me from liking Phantom Troupe, is my favourite criminal group. Sorry, Kurapika.
What makes you believe that Chrollo believes in fate and determinism ? I never had this feeling. Wouldn't it be in stark contrast to his actions? He and the troupe are outcasts who inflict violence on others as a means of being alive. But if he truly were deterministic wouldn't he just accepted the fate that he has been given ? I find him fascinating because he does have agency and he is on his own path of finding himself. Maybe i'm getting the definition wrong but i never felt that Chrollo would be the type of character who would simply "accept".
I think it stemmed from how he treated Neon's prophecy. He held it as a testament of the future that will happen, without a doubt. Unlike Pakunoda who treated the prophecy as how it was intended (it only foresee bad things so you can take countermeasures to avoid it), Chrollo seemed to believe that her prophecy was an ultimate truth, a fate that can't be changed.
He saw the world and he accepted the CONDITIONS and RULES,not his position.I think he accepted that its -unfair -meaningless -unstable with inevitable and uncontrollable forces And now he’s working with what he’s got. He’s not complaining,”It is what it is”is his response to the world and Hisoka with the rest of human flaws. But he surely wants to do something and to get somewhere even if he has to fill requirements and make sacrifices. If he has to kill in order to archive his goal he will, because that’s what it requires and that’s how the world works. That’s why he doesn’t take things personally as the others are also simply living by the natural laws of “dog eat dog”
And the context of the new chapters make why Chrollo defies the world even more powerful
Chrollo is actually pretty cool thanks for opening my eyes
nice soundtrack, it fits to melancholic nihilism of Chrollo's character and makes your explanations clearer
