Fun Fact: the reason why Kratos kept referring Atreus as "Boy" was because the developers at Sony Santa Monica weren't able to agree on Atreus' real name until late in production.
I didn't know that!! Happy coincidence that it became such an iconic thing. Especially Christofer Judge calling Sunny BOY!!! at Game Awards 2018 lives in my head rent free 😂
@@qrowing It did go on for way too long, but I didn't mind it as much.. I mean, a lot more cringe inducing shit has happened in the history of E3 and Game Awards that scars your soul😂

For me it was my first GoW game and I loved it despite the fact I didnt knew his story, I got so addicted that I watched the whole story after finishing the game. So the game did a good job to get your interest for the whole story, for me at least :) I just regret I didnt play the old games back in the day 😭
@@dean93arrI think there’s three ways you can experience it, full knowledge, partial knowledge, which is my favorite, or no knowledge. Full knowledge heightens emotional impact and helps with understanding Kratos more. Partial knowledge is how I first played; I knew the basics, he served Ares, accidentally killed his family, and then killed all the gods, but that was about all I knew. That led to me being able to understand his character, say “oh shit” as he brought out the blades, and still be surprised by parts, like Zeus being his dad. No knowledge replaces the understanding of Kratos with mystery, and some absolutely prefer that. It creates a unique story experience where the lead has clearly experienced a massive story in the past, but you only get to see the pieces of it.
20:57 In the novelization of the game it's revealed in his thoughts that one of the main reasons Kratos doesn't let Atreus hold Faye is because he doesn't want to let her go. He doesn't want her to leave him.
You should have her watch a little of kratos’s past even after watching the 2 games cutscenes only a backstory video will cover some very very interesting things that will help you both understand why he is the way he is
Just FYI... The World Serpent says " I know you, Ghost of Sparta... Find Mimir!" took me a while but on my third playthrough of the game I figured what it was saying
I think this would be a good point to know Kratos.. Dude went through a lifetime of trauma in the previous games. There is a very valid reason why he hates Gods and why he is ashamed that he is one. He wants to save Atreus from a lifetime of misery. Also the game tells you this at some point(Maybe it is in the sequel, I am not sure), but back in Greece, Kratos had a family, but because he was under the service of Ares, in a blind rage he kills his wife and daughter when he gets information that the village they were staying in had people who worked against Ares or something. So he was cursed to wear his family's ashes on his skin to remind him of his error. That's why in this game, his skin looks more Grey-ish. I mean that is horrifying when you think about it. You inadvertently kill your family and you are cursed to wear their ashes on your skin to remind you of your folly. This is who Kratos is. With that context, I think you can understand why he has so much trouble connecting with Atraeus. He genuinely wants him to be better than Kratos was, but just does it in his own way. Beautiful thing is, even without the context, you can understand his struggles. You know the archetype he comes under and you recognize his problems, but with the context, you actually feel for him because he is trying to get over trauma the likes of which is unimaginable. I really love the game's writing that it facilitates new players to understand, but it also has enough for veteran players to get the bigger picture
Not just that of what he went through, gods in this universe or to be honest in real mythology too is just dickheads, especially the greek ones. Like Mimir says "Ones in a blue moon there might be a good god"

I ADORE Aterus, he’s so naive of the world and just wants to see the good in others. Meanwhile Kratos knows the danger this world imposes and wants to protect Aterus from his own naive nature. I’ve played this game and watched play throughs of the second one and I love how their relationship grows. I also love the Witch of the Woods (who you’ll find out more about in a little bit) and I too want to play as her lmao 😂 Also can I just say the music in this game is a masterpiece. The music that plays when Kratos reaches out to his wife gives me extreme chills all over. Such a beautiful piece of art this game is.
there's a video called a history of kratos and id really recommend watching that!! as it wont make your god of war experience bad but will give you knowledge for what's coming in the story!
Yes I would agree please go back and watch the Greek God of War before you move on to the 2018 God of War, your missing and whole lot of good story. Plus some things won't make sense.
You should play all old game and this one too after that in ragnarok you will find the conclusion about character improvement emotionally. You will love it more❤
Kratos has already lost a family he had due to the Gods of Olympus wanting to make an absolute warrior with no mortal ties holding him back. And they took that family by tricking him into thinking they were monsters while he was under the servitude of the gods. Kratos gets cursed to carry the shame of killing his family, the pale skin he has is the ashes of his family. Thus the name Ghost of Sparta. This path of vengence lead him to kill Ares and become the God Of War. Further actions lead to the gods betraying Kratos yet again and soon begins his journey to destroy Olympus where he learns Zeus is his father and killing the gods, meant killing the rest if his family. After destroying Olympus, Kratos finds his way to a foreign land where he hid for a very very long time until he met his late wife Faye, and together had a son Atreaus. Edit: An over simplification of the history of 7 games.

Guys might i suggest that before continuing with the third part let's take a detour to watch kratos backstory so that u can understand him more and why he is basically like that
The game is fun to play. Atreus is a cute child. The story is fairy-tale, the combat is legendary, and the graphics are fantastic. I advise you to try it. ❤
Achara, if you’re not going to check up on Kratos’s history, then you need to know at least this: He killed the ENTIRE pantheon of Greek gods in the previous games, including his father Zeus, dooming all of Greece in the process. All in the name of rage and revenge for his wife and daughter that he was tricked into killing. The Greek gods were all the worst, hence why he doesn’t believe in “good gods”
If you think kratos is grumpy you should watch the cutscenes for the Greek games and see how grumpy he was when he was young 😂. Mf would literally kill people just for staring at him the wrong way lol
I wish that they would actually play the game so that they could read the glossary and find out exactly who and what all these creatures and people are, they’re all written from Atreus’ point of view.
I don't think they'd be able to finish it honestly, they're not used to games and this one is fairly challenging and long. I prefer cut down reactions to the story instead.
