Sucks they don't know about the blades of chaos, the reveal would've hit hard if they did, but oh well.
Yeah if they just watched the first God of War games they might react the same way we did before
I kinda still get goosebumps at that part everytime i play
It’s certainly meaningful to a player of the previous games but as someone who got into Gow through viewing the 2018 game before the previous games, there’s a lot of value in seeing the narrative from this point of view because you are essentially put into the same headspace as Atreus to an extent wanting Kratos to open up about his past and being fascinated to find out more about it.
@@edgardtheknowledgekeeper3119That kinda was what they were going with on this soft reboot.. a new player base. Basically following TLOU trend to milk the series. Turned out to be a decent game though.
@@raider2108 damn you beat me to it lol Same every time i get here the goosebumps come!!!
I love the blades of chaos reveal because even if you haven’t seen the OG trilogy it’s so epic, and you sense the tragedy behind them
Moment when Kratos saying "i know" after Athena called him a monster will always be heartbreakig. That also reason why he make him so distant from Atreus, he's afraid he can corrupt him and dont want him to turn out like him.
36:30 Thats his OG weapon from previous games!
The "sword" was the curse of the original god of war who he made a deal with, the blades that killed his family, the cursed gods and damned many souls. Now he made it's purpose is to save his son.
Really enjoying you guys experiencing this masterpiece of a game.
They don't understand the weight of the Blades of Cchaos scene, the NEED to watch his backstory.
I would highly recommend watching "Untangling GOD OF WAR" After you finish the story it really makes you appreciate the game so much more.
How come you guys dont know about The Blade of Chaos? That was not a new weapon 😭😭😭
Because they just wanted to go into this game thinking that they didn't need know anything about kratos's past and the events that happened in the previous games even though achara clearly saw that it said gow 4.
You guys should've really watched atleast the original trilogy before this because the reveal of athena and blades of chaos would've hit different
Feel very sad at the moment...these blades have history
Yeah...this part of the game hits differently when you have all of the context.
Y’all need to watch the cutscenes for the old games. You look so damn confused 😂. Long story short, kratos WAS a demo god. He became a full god later, then lost his powers and became a demo god again then at the end of the Greek series he got his full godhood back but lost all of the magical abilities he had. The only god power he kept was his enhanced strength. He use to have a lot more powers. Kratos explains why he lost most of his powers in the new game.
46:49 You should watch the story and gameplay of the old God of War games to get all the details and the full picture.
Can the next game you watch be Uncharted 4?
It has just as much depth as this game and is a personal favorite of mine
Yasssss finally been waiting 4 this
React to old god of war story Kristen will love the music it's soo great
why not start from God of War first franchise @@ cuz every time I see Blades of Chaos scene I got goosepump
Ares tricked Kratos to kill his first family with the Blades of Chaos and he has pale white skin because he was cursed to wear the ashes of his dead family for eternity.
40:51 luh calm fit nothing too extravagant
I enjoy the commentary ladies but, you guys need to go watch or play the first installment of God of War! Then you will understand why Kratos is the way he is
the blade of chaos and ghost of sparta reveals wouldve been much better with prior knowledge of kratos's past
Would be way cooler if you guys knew kratos history and why or how he is the way he is would of made this reaction way nicer, still been a cool reaction tho ☺️
"We dont know the history, Maybe they had some beef" 😂 Understatement of the year that one 😂
😂😂😂😂
😂
So fun fact, that scene where Athena says he will always be a monster, in the behind the scenes footage,Christopher Judge, the actor who plays Kratos is seen crying in this scene. And that is the take they used for the final product
"Come, boy. CinePals just dropped a new God of War video."

42:02 I always love it when people find out that Zeus was Kratos' father.
I always find it so heart-breaking seeing Kratos face when he asks Freya "Will you help me?" 29:30 as he is leaving Atreus in her care
Same
Hey, just something I wanted to mention from your first video is that Kratos and Ares are not the same characters. Ares was the first Greek God of War in the first game until Kratos replaced him for a brief time. Also, Kratos is a Greek Demi-God (Half God/Half Human). He was a demi-god at the start of the series, became a full god temporarily when he became the god of war, then became a demi-god again. Based on how the last game ended, there was a little confusion about whether he was a full god or a demi-god. Ultimately, I think he is a demi-god, even though they are calling him a god. And Kratos just called Atreus a god, and we know he is a demi-god, so the Norse gods (and maybe other creatures like dwarves) must consider people with the blood of a god a god, even if they aren't full gods. And considering how Kratos can hold his own against them, I think that makes sense. Also, Athena (the Goddess of Wisdom and War) is Kratos's half-sister (because Zeus was their father). Ares was also his brother for the same reason. Fun Fact: I heard people in Greece (either back then or still now) throw an apple to someone there are romantically interested in (and I think if the other person catches it, they know they're meant to be together). That is likely why Kratos cut the apple Sindri (one of the Dwarf brothers) threw to him (just wanted to mention that).
True he was born a demi-god. I think kratos still considers himself a full god though because he essentially regained all his powers and more after zeus killed him and he came back from the dead. And he gained other godly abilities in gow 3. Remember he needed the soul of a god I think in order to enter those teleport gates in gow 3 (technically he should still have hades soul in him too). He doesn't have all of his abilities anymore, which he explains in the next game why, but he still ages like a god rather than a mortal so thats another reason that points toward him still being a full god. As far as the norse gods go, yeah they do consider half gods gods still. Technically thor would be a demigod in greek mythology.
True, he does seem to age like a God, so he could be a full God. But I believe the weapon he took from Hades, in God of War 3, held his soul, not Kratos himself. Also, a demigod would be half human and half God. You can still be half God and half something else (besides human) to be a full God, so I don't think Thor is a demigod considered a God. He is a God. But, some possible evidence towards Kratos being a God would be at the end of gow3 when he stabs himself with the blade of Olympus. That blade held his godly power after Zeus stole it (and I don't think he got that back after Zeus killed him because he never seemed to be more powerful than a demigod when he came back to life, and Zeus wouldn't have allowed or risked that happening) and he could have absorbed that power back after stabbing himself and releasing the power of hope to the world. But if that was the case, then Kratos should be more powerful than he is in the new gow games. When Kratos was the god of war, he could become a powerful giant (not the race) god. The norse gods may not be able to do that, but the greek gods could, and he would be a greek god. Maybe it's a choice, but I don't know. I think it's possible he is a full god, but I still think he's a demigod. If you consider him a full God, that's ok. I think someone should ask this to the developers.
@user-mc1qb2qb3g you could maybe argue that hades soul is really inside the weapon that kratos took, but we see it actually go inside kratos's body and not the weapons. There's no reason to assume hades soul left him either, so I'm more inclined to think it's still inside him. Thor in norse mythology isn't considered a demigod, but by Greek rules he would be. Demigod doesn't just mean half human and half god. And since thor is mixed with something that isn't considered a god or divine being, that would technically make him a demigod.
Kratos didn't get his powers back right after coming back from the dead, but he does get other powers from the help of the titans in order to go back in time to fight zeus. It's what happened in gow 2. And kratos uses the blade of Olympus many times in gow 2 and 3 so if he did reabsorb his powers then he probably did it long before he stabbed himself. I doubt it though, because he never uses any old godly powers in gow 3 at all like growing into a giant (although now that im thinking about it, i dont think his ability to turn giant was put into the blade of olympus. It was given to the giant statue he fought so maybe thats not an ability he could've absorbed from the blade anyways).
As to the reason why he doesn't seem as powerful or more powerful in the new games, well, that's what I was hinting at before in my previous comment. He explains why he doesn't have his other abilities in the next game. Gow ragnarok. I didn't want to go into specifics just in case it's spoilery for the ladies doing the reaction. But then again, you don't hear why in a cutscene, so they'll probably miss it. I'll just say it here then with a small warning. (*minor spoiler ahead for those who haven't played god of war ragnarok) Its explained in the next game that his powers were basically bound to the land, and when he destroyed Greece, much of his powers left with it. So it's not by choice that he doesn't use other powers (that includes all other weapons he had besides the blades). I still consider him a god though, and since the developers are calling him a god, then it's probably safe to assume he's full god.🤷🏾♂️
I forgot that little detail about the apple. I never knew of that tradition until someone mentioned it when this game was released. It very well may have been the director Cory Barlog.
Cory Barlog (Game Director) has stated Kratos is a full God. I guess maybe they retconned the idea of Demi-God or perhaps there never was a concept of it.
Maybe it could simply be he inherited Ares's Godhood abilities which doubled Kratos's own Godhood. Basically, like how Atreus is currently not a God, but eventually develops into one.
Simply knowing they are a God is what allows them to develop their "Godhood". That's the most probable assumption to make with what this and Rangarok have shown.
The blades are the Blades of Chaos which are Kratos’s signature weapons in the entire original series before this game (tho he does take on and use dozens of various weapons and magical abilities through the series) and he is called “The Ghost of Sparta” due to his skin being so pale (this is because the ashes of his original family are bound to his skin for eternity) along with his ruthless brutality for ANYONE in his way. He hates his past so much because he VERY brutally slaughtered the entire Greek pantheon as well as several Titans (titans are the beings that came before gods) Kratos also used the blades to slaughter MILLIONS of innocent civilians (often just as crossfire or simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time or just being in his path) so he hates and fears his past as he doesn’t want his son to become like him following a brutal cycle that is constantly repeated in the realm of the gods (the cycle is a parent god doing something out of fear then the child returning to kill their parent and it repeats itself over and over) there is a lot more but you guys should really react to a full run through of Kratos’s past as there is a TON of information and it fills a LOT of gaps and background information for this game and it also causes a lot of character reactions and attitudes to make sense more. Also Kratos simply has a WILLDDDD backstory
6:24 Fun Fact: So the invisibility trick Brok and Sindri use doesn’t originally come from dwarven mythology but gnomes. They escape from anyone by running behind a rock, and the moment they break line of sight they disappear. So the game developers used that as a way to explain how they get past all the obstacles you go through so that they are always at their shops.
Also in addition to watching Kratos’ backstory I really hope they react to all of Mimir’s stories. Not only are they very important for the overall story but they are amazing to listen to.
The Norse version of Hel is in my opinion FAR worse than any hell in any other religion. No a flaming pit, but a vast, endless, frozen wasteland, with no sense of warmth or heat, and little to no light.
Why did he say "But it doesn't work on dragons"?
@@usmantariq7997i think the dragon caught him offguard while it was running from kratos and atreus and he made a joke about it when he said that it had a lol kinda vibe to it
i am sorry but eternal flames are far worse than eternal frost
Atleast freezing you won't feel that much, but burning yourself alive is worse.
@themalware usually dragons have what's called "true sight," but thats just a DnD term, but in other meanings, they can see through magic of many kinds that's meant to hide or get away from them
"Maybe they had some beef."
Not just some beef, it was the whole herd. :)
The blades of chaos, chained to his arms as part of his deal to the corrupt gods of Greece who turned him into The Ghost of Sparta.
you guys should really check out the history of Kratos, it will give you so much context
If you guys are really interested in knowing Kratos’s story, y’all should watch the cutscene’s from the previous games.
It’s gonna make this reaction even better.
Much Love❤️
Unfortunately the significance of the references to the previous games and the Greek pantheon is lost on you guys. But thats fine because I think this game does a good job as a stand alone story. You'll just have a different experience from the rest of us. But after your done you really need to check out either the story of the previous games or an abridged version of it or atleast a compilation of all the executions. I know alot of comments have been really aggressive and mean when suggesting that. But you really are missing out
Except it's not a stand alone not only is it already a sequel that makes reference to the originals A LOT but it also a sequel that once again references the originals A LOT.
What that guy said
Should watch Kratos History first, then this Game story will make sense😢
You guys should DEFINITELY stick with Gamer's Little Playground for God of War Ragnarok. Gold-standard for game cinematics and story.
Watching a synopsis of the past 3 games wouldve made this game much better to watch

“I’ve never heard of the ghost of Sparta”
And this children, is why you watch or learn about the prequels. Especially where reboots are concerned
They're not prequels THIS is the sequel.
Kratos did a lot of monstrous things in his past, even to those who didn’t deserve it. Christopher Judge’s performance in the scene with Athena is one of my favorites in this game. The way Kratos responds to Athena when she calls him a monster, and he says “I know.” You can hear the sorrow about that in his voice. Thing I love about this story is how it’s a redemption.
This cut is a little weird. It cut the dialog from Mimir on the way to Freya but kept the dialog of Freya talking about her banishment. I guess because Freya sort of repeats what Mimir says.
Blades of chaos is emotion you can quickly watch kratos story before Norse i guess
56:43 Kratos never said Atreus wasnt good enough. You dont know his past and understand him well enough to say that. There is a good reason he isn't telling the truth to Atreus. I believe every single father would do what Kratos did because of what he went through in his past.
That's not a new weapon that's his oldest and legendary weapon it has (weapon) it's own story
Modi was freaking out because in the Poetic Edda kinda like the Viking prophecy Magni and Modi are supposed to survive Ragnarok and succeed Thor. Since Kratos killed Magni Modi's entire belief system fell apart in that moment.
I mean Kratos isn't bound by fate like the other GOW characters, just by being there, Kratos basically altered their destiny.
Kratos was a professional God killer, those blades killed lots of Greek Gods. He's just retired, this is his retirement story.
Older Kratos is way more chill than young Kratos. If they are this bothered by him in this game, then the classic games would make their heads explode. 😅
for the love of god watch the other games before going to the next one. they answer EVERY question you asked.
I'm going to be pissed if they start watching Ragnarok and not a backstory video
Really like the reactions you guys do but the reactions for this game dont hit the same unless you have prior knowledge of the previous games. The blades of chaos reveal would’ve hit way more and been way more emotional
For some reason i felt offended when Kristen called the blade of chaos a new weapon
Yeah that cut deep for me personally
Same. Personally, I think they should've watched a plot summary video of the previous 3 games so they would have more context for this game and Ragnarok.
Please watch kratos's past story before continuing this you'll understand why is kratos like this
Important detail to know about Kratos: He killed ALL the Greek gods. They mostly deserved it, but it had major consequences
He didn't just destroy the Pantheon, he destroyed the entire Greece. The earth, plants and everything died. Most of the people died.
Not all. Artemis, Aphrodite, Hestia and multiple others
@@Dctctx It might be safe to say that they also died in the chaos
I hope they don't stop at the end of God of War 2018, but follow through the whole story and go straight to watching Ragnarok. Oh boy, if they like the story in this one, they would LOVE Ragnarok!!!
Also, sucks they don't know Kratos' past and why the Blades of Chaos was such a huge emotional thing for him to deal with. I don't want to spoil anything if they actually go and learn about it later, but it would have definetely hit different. I always tear up when Kratos digs up the Blades, even more after seeing Christopher Judge brake down crying while filming it in Raising Kratos...
Athena is kind of kratos sister and was accidentally killed by him. Blades of chaos is kratos orginal weapon
I wish I knew the history of Kratos before you play this game or watch the review that is a downside because a lot of Easter eggs and cameos come in this game from his previous games that you would not understand but I can't change that still a good review/reaction
"maybe they had some beef" might be a understatement^^
I'm just gonna blame Patreon for y'all tackling this game before any of Kratos' other endeavors
It's hurt me when you say "I never heard the ghost of sparta" 😢😢😢
It's so sad as GOW Fans to see they don't know Kratos back story first 3 games and they don't feel how Heart Broken Kratos is to get back to the Blade of Chaos...But I love watching their reaction..Hope they can watch GOW Ragnarok soon🥰🥰🥰
the big bird is "Hræsvelgr" and ruler of helheim
So the game making him travel all the way back to Freya and not fast travelling or cutting to it is because this game has no actual cuts. It's all just one long take, so to speak. The camera just moves and follows the action it needs to, but there's no cutting between characters in dialogue or any fade to black moments at all. It really sells the sense of journey for these three characters.
I really wished you guys have watched the old games, your reactions seeing the blades would have been sweet
being not ready isnt the same as being weak. You wouldnt skydive without knowing what to do and what not to do right?
34:48 *No Spoilers* To keep it brief, those were his former weapons back in Greece! There called the Blades of Exile! 🙏🏽💪
👏
Why are they getting triggered when Kratos said woman?
28:58
Seriosuly ladies? Arent you a woman?
This feminist attitude is totally ruining the reaction.
OH I SO WISH they knew the story from the first GOW, they would like this even more. good video! subbed
The one thing they needed to know about the chaos blades is that Kratos accidently murdered his family with those blades and the reason why he is a pale white color is because he was cursed to wear their ashes on his skin. Knowing these things will make the reveal a 100 percent better.
41:57 The bird is a giant called Hræsvelgr. He takes the shape of a giant eagle who sits at the edge of the world. He is the source of the Wind itself and all nine realms feel it when he flaps his wings
I love when you see the weight being lifted off of Kratos. He was so expecting Atreus to just be angry and hate him, but was surprised by the response.
Pino was trying to fight it but I think she needed some rest. Noddng off @20:30 for a while. She almost fell asleep there lol.
"who needs humans when you have animals" No. that is disgusting and creepy.

It's like jumping on the train unaware of its destination and it's purpose....
She didn't like the arrows because they have the power to counter her magic
They really talked through the entire scene where Kratos says, "Athena, get out of my head". Even without playing the prior games - I kinda figured out the significance of that moment.
if they know Blood of Chaos they got goosebumps for sure😊😊
Well now that this game is currently surprising you with its story. I'm hoping to see more reactions to games then. Because boy, this ain't the only game that has a deep story. It's the very reason we have a show like The Last of Us. Video games are a legit mode of story telling now. Has been for a while actually. And a video game can tell stories that are worth multiple feature-length films. I'd argue that games can offer so much more than films can in narratives, because some games have branching paths and different endings.
Also, one of the cool things about video games now is that it's not just programmers, developers, producers, directors, and voice actors. We're at a point where actual performances by real actors are captured for games so they feel very life-like. It's honestly one of the best things to happen to story-driven video games.
The effect it would have taken only if they knew about the Blades Of Chaos more 🤯….
You only figure out the whole story in the next game.
Girls, you should've started with the first game and work your way up the lore.
Is she a sibling 😂
That's why you never watch a series from the middle
The more I watch their reactions, the more I am pained they know nothing about all the references 😅 it will never hit as hard this way! Especially seeing the blades again!
That's why I'm not watching no more
Yep! The line "I am a monster. But I am your monster no longer" is such a powerful statement. Brought chills down my spine. The fact that they didn't get the gravity of a statement like that really pains me lol
@@thefonz8373 Sometimes it is interesting to see people react to something with no context. You get to see them get immersed for the first time in the world and its characters.
@@paxapunch2708 Not really, not when it comes to God of War. That franchise has such an important trilogy the 2018 game is a bit underwhelming, when it comes to storytelling, if you have no prior knowledge of the trilogy's storyline. I'm not saying the story of the 2018 game is bad or anything, it's just a little bit generic and weird, cause you'd have no concept of some of the Kratos' motivations. Like as an example - they clearly are reacting to the story and don't get why Kratos is the way he is. And that's not their fault, it's just how the game's written, it's ,in fact, for people who've played the original trilogy.
@@paxapunch2708 I get that. I think that is one of the strengths of this game, that it can stand on it's own. But you have to admit, getting the chaos blades or the scenes with Athena or the scene with meeting Zeus in hell etc isn't as impactful without context. Hell even Atreus relationship with Kratos is missing a lot of context. Without it, he seems like yet another hard ass dad who is trying to form a relationship with his son. While admittedly it is a tried and true trope, the context of Knowing about his past family and the horrors he experienced really underscores the themes in this game
If you go back and watch the original trilogy , everything you guys see and feel would hit differently in this game. I hope you guys do watch the it .
34:50 the goosebumps moment! 🔥 GOW fans will knew it
you can tell Kristen was more awake in God of War 3 because of the brutality and action. In GoW4 we play the educator more than the slayer 😂 I miss the brutality in GoW. Ok I have to say though, the guy who played GoW could have edit a lot about the gameplay.
25:21 Now this, puts a smile on my face 😌
There is a video by the gami gaming channel VSG that has all of Mimir's stories for both God of War 2018 and 2022 if Achara is interested in the mythology of these games
34:55 their the blades that were attached to his arms by Aries the god of war, back at the start of everything. You 2 should check out the other games cut scene, and do each game
Just for reference the thunder storm during Kratos' journey was Thor beating the 💩 out of his son Modi for allowing his big brother to be killed while he fled in fear.
Also it's hard to spot because of the bird being so distracting (i missed this first time as well lol) was at 41:50 after Kratos kills the Bridge Keeper and basically desecrates his body to get his heart he takes a moment and places his hand on his chest as a sign of respect. Kratos absolutely doesn't think this guy is an A-hole. This is the soldier in him (he was a Spartan soldier before he became a Demi God) showing respect to another soldier who didn't just randomly attack him in the wild on his journey but was just a being doing their job/duty and because of his decision to not be truthful with Atreus about his lineage led him to the point where he has to kill this being in order to save him. He has no problem doing whatever it takes to save his son but it shows he still has morals and can show remorse. Athena and him both agree he will always be a monster but it's certainly not his main and only characteristic.
Kratos has never been very talkative throughout all the games but in this one he is particularly non verbal as he is a lot older and wiser than he was in the previous games and has seen some 💩.
His age hasn't been confirmed by the studio or developers as far as I'm aware but educated guesses have his age around 1050 years old. If you pay very close attention his body language and combat ferocity (Spartan Rage) often says more than his words by how he reacts to events and people's words. Slight heads tilts, furrowing of the brow, standing more upright, clenching of fists etc tells you exactly what he's probably thinking in that moment without uttering a word and the voice and motion capture body acting by Christopher Judge is just absolutely superb.
One of the best written characters in video game history without a doubt.
54:45 I love this conversation between Kratos and his son! 😊💪
You definitely should've watched the original games first. You have no idea of the weight these scenes really hold.
Y’all reacted to all the previous God of war games. But it’s a shame that y’all didn’t recognise his OG weapon @36:30 from the previous games! 😭😭😢😢
33:00 was a pure goosebump scene only if you do know kratos, ares and athena past.
Fun fact: When Christopher Judge (Kratos’ actor) did the scene when he gets the Blades of Chaos he actually started crying
Pls react to previous story of god of war games and u dont have to react to cutscenes like this
You must know the Greek based god of war games to understand God of war and Ragnarok.😊😊
It sucks you didn’t watch the previous games.
It would makes sense with why Kratos rightly hates gods.
Why he is so strict and overorotective with his new child and acting like he does.
While also understanding the past of his blades and who he is.
I mean it’s like 5-6 games in greece, there is a lot to miss XD
Naah..this is unacceptable. Y'all need to watch the trilogy..or at least the recap before you even touch GOW Ragnarok.
52:20 one of the best and most emotionally powerful scenes I have ever seen in all of video games!
@CinePals if you guys wanna know about Kratos, you will/would havw to watch the previous God of War games
Did they really just skipped the bloody ghost of sparta dialogue *u serious* ( in J.jonah jameson voice)
This gameplay cutscene video really doesn't do justice. Missed some of mimir's lines and stories, missed a little bit of brok and sindri lines beyond the side missions. Also they used a good cut editing technique but they only used it once, everything else is rough.
