When I stumbled upon this I thought it was going to be something funny, but ended up watching the whole thing and became oddly interested. A am actually going to practice. Ha ha. Life's short, why not have amateur auctioneering under my belt. Love the passion Brett, keep up the good work.
Thanks Luke... hope this helped you. Me and my buddy just made this video for fun and to act silly but ended up being something informative than we thought it would be. Glad you enjoyed and good luck to you. Brett
OMG this guy is great. I do videos professionally. This guy cut right to the chase. He's clear. He's educational. Doesn't waste tine. He's understandable. He's funny. Likeable. He seems like one heck of an auctioneer and fine person. Great vibe! Awesome video. Thanks!
Mr. Powers, I really enjoyed your lesson. Though I'm not interested in being an auctioneer caller you sure made the lesson enjoyable, and I learned something!
I've watched this video a dozen times in the last couple years. Gotta thank you for it. Motivates me to aggravate the heck out of my wife. I even auction the dog treats, they start barking and she starts yelling. It's a good time!
I saw this video on the side of the "Auctioneer song" and have always been interested in "How to be an Auctioneer". Very enjoyable and well presented. I too watched this video to the end. Thank you.
Great Video! I just got my Auctioneer License today myself!!!! I have been around auctions for near 40+ years as buyer/seller and finally took the leap to become an auctioneer myself! This good clean simple approach to bid calling is where most should start and some should return to! Blub Blub Blub $30 Blub Blub Blub $35 Blub Blub Blub etc...... REALLY!!! Though maybe been in the biz for 40 years that guy sounded like drowning in a lake and going down for the 6th time! LOL Great video and you sound good there, I hope I can be as good with more practice!
It's a lot of practice and A God given talent to become auctioneer that is clear in delivery, sometimes a little fun mixed with sarcasm and most importantly one who can draw the most money from the bidders. These guys are a true pleasure to hear practicing their craft.
Thank you for the straight forward instruction. Was asked to auctioneer fora school fundraiser in April. You have given me lots to consider. The visual aid of the whiteboard is EXTREMELY helpful. Again thank you!
I hear Tony Rice singing Gotta Do my Time! great background.. then Alison Krauss and Union Station.. Little Girl of Mine in Tennessee Flatt and Scruggs.. Great Stuff.. You broke it down real easy.
Thanks for leaving this comment! I never would have been able to track down the Alison Krauss song without you leaving this comment. It took me a little bit of searching but I found it: "Momma Cried".
I'm impressed. You broke it down easy. I'm wanting to help our little community out with auctions but want to get people into it. This is gonna help me for sure!!! Thank you!!!
I came looking with intrigue. I'm leaving with absolutely no new knowledge because I laughed through the whole thing! I love your personality! Hilarious!!
That was awesome!! I wish I could do that, but there just ain't no way!!! Love the deep southern accent!! I'm an ole country gal that lives on a farm and go to alot of livestock auctions and I love listening to the auctioneer! I do have to say though, you are really amazing at this!!
Thank you very much for the lesson. I learned so much and will help me when I go to auctioneer school later this year. Just these basic steps have already given me a good start on chanting. Thank you so much again!!!
This is the best instructions I’ve seen to date. No bs, just tells ya what ya need to know and all ya need ya know. Very well done and great video my man!!
Excellent tutorial! I'm a former licensed real estate sales associate but auctioneering was always something I thought I'd love to do! You should teach auctioneering!
Well I read half a dozen articles on auctioneering and this is the only one that made sense. It's the point about practicing repetition of the numbers in series and then repetitious practice of the filler words that clicked. Thanks.
@LNY Its crazy, I’m Jewish too, people are so sensitive. I personally find that funny, and anyone who has a sense of humor and a realization of history should too.
Great video! Stumbled across it watching "the auctioneer" song. Very entertaining and loved the songs in the backround. Id like to bust out the auctioneer song on guitar next time im around the campfire and this might help! Ottawa canada
This was super helpful thank you! I'm running a work incentive and it's a mock auction where staff can bid on prizes with points they have won for varies tasks. I'm the auctioneer! I had no clue what to do till I saw this. Thanks again!!!
I'd like to take a moment to thank you for your tutorial! Using your teaching, a lot of practice, and some experience I've had on the mic in the past, I was able to raise $34k for The American Caner Society, Habitats for Humanity, and Make a Wish today. your tutorial was perfect. THANK YOU AGAIN!
Well, I think what Javelin434 mean't (because clearly he was saying that he LIKED the vid), was that the sound of old vintage bluegrass music recordings sometimes might (unfairly and inaccurately) reinforce the prejudicial opinions of certain bigots, against folks in the South who are largely good and honest people, undeserving of that poor stereotype as discriminatory and simple. I don't think he mean't that HE felt that way, -at least, I HOPE he doesn't feel that way! BTW, there isn't any racism or prejudice whatsoever in the lyrics of those traditional Classic Bluegrass songs.
Autigers2010. I listen to this all the way to the end of the video and never once thought about making a racist comment and i live in Wisconsin and bluegrass music is enjoyed up here also and so is a good southern drawl. If you what to be racist yourself that is your choice but, do not lable other with that title. I read the first comment and never thought it was racist and after reading your comment i know who is racist, guest who it is you.
Thank you for posting. It gives me hope. I am getting older and cant do some of the things I used to because of a disability. I have always been intrigued by the art of auctioneering and I think I am going to practice. Thanks again
u can be an apprentice auctioneer in some states, its a good idea, it gives u practical experience and you may not need to go to school, but its a real good idea to go!
Thank you! I've been asked to be the auctioneer at our community public radio station's fundraiser in early November, and I know this is really ambitious, but...I hope to do a reasonable chant. You've given me a great start, and I promise...I'll practice every single day!
Lmao it's an old video and I don't know if you even check comments now, but thanks a lot man. The crazy part is your natural speaking voice. It's only crazy because I don't know what I was expecting, but it obviously should have been this.
Your lesson was extremely professional and worth it while Your composure remained very encouraging. I'll practice for the sole purpose of knowledge; thank u
I am a 34 year old mom from Florida. Never been to an auction and will never be an auctioneer. Why this video founds it’s way into my feed? I don’t know. I watched the whole thing. This guy has some kind of charisma.
To the commenters who want the music off, respectfully, if you can't focus on this one man talking directly to you with soft music in the background, good luck keeping eyes on a room full of people throwing inconspicuous hand signs...
This was fun to watch. My Dad was a cowboy but also did a good job as an auctioneer now and then. I have been to many auctions over the years but never saw it explained in slow motion what they were actually doing / saying. The background music was a little distracting. Thanks for posting.
NICE LESSON, AND YOU ACTUALLY STRAIGHTENED OUT A SITUATION IN MY HEAD WHERE VIA THIS VIDEO, I FOUND OUT I WAS WRONG ON A BID THAT THE AUCTIONEER DID. YA SEE HE ( THE AUCTIONEER ) WAS CORRECT. SO NOW I CAN SAVE FACE WITH THE GENTLEMAN AUCTIONEER. GREAT VIDEO.
Does anyone know what the song is which starts at 2:33 in this video? It sounds really good and I'd love to listen to it isolated. Thanks if you can help! EDIT: I've found it - it's 'Momma Cried' by Alison Krauss & Union Station: ua-cam.com/video/-QnnTau0zy0/v-deo.htmlsi=HDO-j_W1TQEA_x9b
Man, gotta be the highest class auctioneerin vid on YT with Flatt & Scruggs in the background to open it up. Wonder if old Earl or Lester woulda believed it if they were told in the recordin booth in 1959, that the track they were layin down (Doin' My Time) would be the opening background theme for an instructional movie still being watched in the year 2018 on UA-cam? In his typical gracious tones, I'm sure that Lester would have modestly said "Man, that's just great, but lemme ask you...what sort of thing is "a you-tube"?
you just unlocked something i have been wondering about for 30 years...
Chris Craft, yes he did. Makes sense now👍
Chris Craft me too!
me three lol
He explains it a bit a bit better then the way everyone else explains it which makes sense now even tho ive known a bit about auctioneer
When I stumbled upon this I thought it was going to be something funny, but ended up watching the whole thing and became oddly interested. A am actually going to practice. Ha ha. Life's short, why not have amateur auctioneering under my belt. Love the passion Brett, keep up the good work.

NorCal YXZ
Hahah! 👍
NorCal YXZ omg😂😂😂😂mee too!
@norcal YXZ your comment made me evil laugh out loud...then it got me thinking! Rent party!
Mr. Powers,
I really enjoyed your lesson. Though I'm not interested in being an auctioneer caller you sure made the lesson enjoyable, and I learned something!

Why is this the best UA-cam video I've ever seen??
I've watched this video a dozen times in the last couple years. Gotta thank you for it. Motivates me to aggravate the heck out of my wife. I even auction the dog treats, they start barking and she starts yelling. It's a good time!
lol
5:17 "Now we're wantin' a DOLLAR! :[" The enthusiasm of this guy is contagious!
That was really great. I’m not looking to be an auctioneer, but I was always about what they were saying. Thanks a lot for the video
My dad sold antiques and growing up, we spent a lot of time at auctions. Brings back fond memories ❤
Your chant is beautiful and you have nice rhythm. And your southern accent makes it even better! 👍
I saw this video on the side of the "Auctioneer song" and have always been interested in "How to be an Auctioneer". Very enjoyable and well presented. I too watched this video to the end. Thank you.
Great Video!

“Gotta get that number sequence down” *SkiPs SIxTeEn*
Sometimes the bidders skips numbers to ensure they will get the item.
Watching from the UK here, love this video it makes everything so much easier to understand!
CactuarLOL 😚🤗🤗😚😇😚😚
I plan to attend an auction next fall. Your video has helped me learn what I’ll be hearing and decoding it. Thanks. I’ll rewatch between now and then
I just don't know how i got here... Greetings from Barcelona, Spain.
Perhaps you've been a cowboy your whole life, amigo!
I enjoy listening to auctioneers. Everyone has their own style how they auction call. Could listen all day long. This was a very informative video.
I hear Tony Rice singing Gotta Do my Time! great background.. then Alison Krauss and Union Station.. Little Girl of Mine in Tennessee Flatt and Scruggs.. Great Stuff.. You broke it down real easy.
The first two songs were Flatt and Scruggs, then Ricky Skaggs.
Thanks for leaving this comment! I never would have been able to track down the Alison Krauss song without you leaving this comment. It took me a little bit of searching but I found it: "Momma Cried".
@@scottbechler9975you’re right that is Flatt and Scruggs doing DOING MY TIME. how could I miss that.
Might just be the greatest video on UA-cam! Greatest tutorial on the net and the greatest example of simplicity I've seen. Just awesome!!
I'm impressed. You broke it down easy. I'm wanting to help our little community out with auctions but want to get people into it. This is gonna help me for sure!!! Thank you!!!
this possibly could be the best video on UA-cam. I love it
7:28 "The two most important things is your "Got" AND your "Want" AND your numbers! I love this guy! Great video!
Stumbled across this and LOVED it. Great job delivering the basics. Thank you for sharing.
This is great, I am 65 years old I love to learn how to auction.
Tina
This comes up in my feed once a year and I still watch it
Probably the most informative and easy to understand video I've seen on youtube. Thank you!!
Bill Clinton Thank you Mr. President! Glad you enjoyed and miss you! I’d pay for your women to get you back as President right now!
I came looking with intrigue. I'm leaving with absolutely no new knowledge because I laughed through the whole thing! I love your personality! Hilarious!!
You seem like a great guy just to go fishin' with! Very funny and happy too! Thanks for sharing this.
That was awesome!! I wish I could do that, but there just ain't no way!!! Love the deep southern accent!! I'm an ole country gal that lives on a farm and go to alot of livestock auctions and I love listening to the auctioneer! I do have to say though, you are really amazing at this!!
I know nothing about auctioneering. This video was awesome and explained it very well. Thank you.
Thank you very much for the lesson. I learned so much and will help me when I go to auctioneer school later this year. Just these basic steps have already given me a good start on chanting. Thank you so much again!!!
csugrad2005 you should check out auctionsyndicate!!!
This is the best instructions I’ve seen to date. No bs, just tells ya what ya need to know and all ya need ya know. Very well done and great video my man!!
I've recently become fascinated with auctioneering, and have an interest in learning the art. This was quite informative.
Excellent tutorial! I'm a former licensed real estate sales associate but auctioneering was always something I thought I'd love to do! You should teach auctioneering!

He said "jew you down" I'm dying my grandfather use to say that all the time when I was a kid. 🤣
Jason McKinney, that was very funny. I also heard it.
@LNY Its crazy, I’m Jewish too, people are so sensitive. I personally find that funny, and anyone who has a sense of humor and a realization of history should too.
I thought it was chew
I still say it to this day.
Thank you! This is the best explaination of the auctioneers language. God bless and take care.
I wish I could hang out with this guy
Awesome awesome awesome video! The animation haha! Well done! So much easier to learn when it’s fun!!!
Great video! Stumbled across it watching "the auctioneer" song. Very entertaining and loved the songs in the backround. Id like to bust out the auctioneer song on guitar next time im around the campfire and this might help! Ottawa canada

The lesson was awesome! The music In the background was even better. Can't beat Bill Monroe
I don't know what I love more: the southern accent, or the music in the background reinforcing all the prejudices of US southerners xD
I too, think this is a pretty racist comment
autigers2010nc you clearly don't understand what racism is.
if you think this is racist then you are wrong in the mindset cause I'm southern like this and that is not a racist comment, it is a compliment
Autigers2010. I listen to this all the way to the end of the video and never once thought about making a racist comment and i live in Wisconsin and bluegrass music is enjoyed up here also and so is a good southern drawl. this is 1 of the best videos to really break it down n make it simple on how to practice
Thank you for posting. It gives me hope. I am getting older and cant do some of the things I used to because of a disability. I have always been intrigued by the art of auctioneering and I think I am going to practice. Thanks again
This has got to be the most entertaining video I have seen all week... this is great!
u can be an apprentice auctioneer in some states, its a good idea, it gives u practical experience and you may not need to go to school, but its a real good idea to go!
This is awesome! I got recruited to be the auctioneer for a church fundraiser tomorrow night! Hope I can get this down in the next 24 hours!

Thanks so much for making this video. I don't plan on being an auctioneer, but I always wondered what they were saying and why they were saying it.
Lmao it's an old video and I don't know if you even check comments now, but thanks a lot man.
The crazy part is your natural speaking voice. It's only crazy because I don't know what I was expecting, but it obviously should have been this.
Excellent instruction. Well explained. You should make more instructional video. You make learning fun.
You are an excellent teacher and I love your style
Your lesson was extremely professional and worth it while Your composure remained very encouraging. I'll practice for the sole purpose of knowledge; thank u
Im an aspiring auctioneer found this really helpful!! thanks
I freakin love this guy!! so entertaining to watch! I love my people.
This dude is so rad. Love the enthusiasm!
Fascinating. I grew up going to a LOT of auctions. I always wondered how people learn to do this.
There are auctioneers who really have a CLEAR voice and articulate very clear.
Very helpful. Your technique seemed really clear and effective. thanks
I am a 34 year old mom from Florida. Never been to an auction and will never be an auctioneer. Why this video founds it’s way into my feed? I don’t know. I watched the whole thing. This guy has some kind of charisma.
Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your video. Auctioneering is a legitimate skill
Good to see you do that. I have watched you play many songs as well on the wonder web.
This has been very helpful in preparing for my charity auction. Thank you.
To the commenters who want the music off, respectfully, if you can't focus on this one man talking directly to you with soft music in the background, good luck keeping eyes on a room full of people throwing inconspicuous hand signs...
Love this. You're excellent at what you do. Thank you 😊 for the video.
This was fun to watch. My Dad was a cowboy but also did a good job as an auctioneer now and then. I have been to many auctions over the years but never saw it explained in slow motion what they were actually doing / saying. The background music was a little distracting. Thanks for posting.
This is perhaps the only one that actually breaks down the chant sequence and actually gives a good example on how to use the filler words you learn.
im an auctioneer and this was just wonderful. thanx for posting
This is the best video on UA-cam imo, I already had a motor mouth just had to learn the cadence haha 😄 😆
Not sure how I ended up here, but this is awesome! Love it!
Dude, great video!! You ate hilarious. Can you make a video critiquing movies or talking about authors or something else too!
I live in Manhattan NEW YORK and I'm watching this great video. Tomorrow I will sell HOT DOGS
Great video! Watching from South Africa... This was very helpful! The background music in the beginning is something else though...
Looked at other videos about auctioneering but yours is the best!
Been a while since anyone posted here but I will. I enjoyed this tons! I now have a place to start that I actually think I CAN start! Great lesson!
Great video but it was hard to hear you with the background music.
I watched this years ago. I came back for the bluegrass music.
I am glad this human exists.
I'm from Scotland and this video was educational as hell. Fantastic!
Dude, you are awesome. I'm only learning this so I can sing the "Auctioneer Song" at karaoke, but still very entertaining!
Idk what it is but I love this video. This guy is great! Educational and entertaining. Lol
I am wanting to be my own auctioneer. This video is so interesting and informative. Thank you so much
Thank you so very much for this video! I just might work on a retirement part time job.
i could just listen to you go on and on. loved it
Great video. I raise animals for the fair and always wanted know how auctioneering was done. Thank you
Thank you for the useful tips. Also thanks for putting a Rodney Carrington twist in the lesson
At 4:30 what song is that in the back ground ??
Thank you from the old north state..... North Carolina !!!!
Absolutely crystal clear, well presented lesson. Thank-you for your words of wisdom.
13 - 14 -15 -17 - True southerner...
Ha!! I heard that and expected him to have an angle with it.
Great video and one of the best I've watched 👍 I'm going to learn from you . Thank you
Did he say “Jew me down” at 4:47 lmao?
That is what I thought I heard lol.
Lol we say it all the time here lol
Yuuuup! And it's just an old term. I'm sure the man didn't mean a thing
