Zacharias Topelius wrote the poem in 1859 after the loss of his son at the age of 1. In 1913 Otto Kotilainen turned the poem into a song and it has since been re-arranged by several artists over the years. Thank you for your reaction!
Check out some more songs from the Raskasta Joulua (Heavy Christmas) conserts. Little Drummer Boy is great fun and Tulkoon joulu (Let there be Christmas) with lyrics.
The first time I heard this, it climbed to the top of my list of Christmas songs. Love the beautiful lyrics and the magnificent instrumentals. And, well, Marko is Marko, always superb. That was a wonderful reaction and I'm so glad that you enjoyed this song.
I so enjoy seeing and hearing what other cultures do to celebrate Christmas. Beautiful and touching song for the season. How wonderful that this artist, despite his age, is beloved and respected. Your reaction was the highlight of this video though. Hope Nancy has recovered well. ❤
Oh dear, Pammie1221, you just made me feel very, very old and gave me a good giggle at the same time. 😆😆 Marko is only 57 this year, and I'm old enough that I could have a child his age. Guess that makes me ancient. But, you are right. He is loved and well respected in Finland as one of the originators of metal in that country, with a career that spans decades.
Thank you! Yes, Nancy is on the mend and despite a few bumps, is recovering. I feel I connect with countries like Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and the UK when it comes to Christmas. I incorporate so many of their traditions into our traditions. I guess I'm an old soul! I loved the imagery of the old (my age-ish) metal Viking warrior showing tenderness to children in a beautiful old song at Christmas time. It warms my heart.❤️
Whenever I see a video related to Raskasta Joulua, I have to chime in and recommend JP Leppäluoto. He is part of the tour as well, and in my humble opinion has the best voice in Finland. He is well worth reacting to.
The children's choir was a nice touch! I'm enjoying hearing new (to me) music. On a vaguely related side-note, do you like System of a Down? Hope y'all have a great day! As always, love & free refills😊
Of course we LOVE SOAD! Nancy, especially. I've compared Ren, Hi Ren to first time hearing SOAD when Toxicity came out- A breath of fresh air! Have a wonderful day!❤️
Ancient ones believed in soul birds. It was believed that the soul of an individual was brought by a bird at the time of birth and taken away by a bird at the time of death. Souls of those who had passed on could visit the living in a form of a bird. Perhaps something could be said about celebrating baby Christ's birth by listening a song about a passed on child, but one of the Christmas tradition in Finland is to remember those love ones who have passed on by lighting candles on their graves, so the song hits the nerve. Little children till today often have a soul bird on their grave stone. You haven't heard what Tarja did to Rudolf, I take it: "TARJA 'Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer' - Official Video - New Album 'Dark Christmas ' Out Now"
To be honest I recorded a video of Asaf, Rock of Lazarus but there was a big problem with the audio- a really bad echo throughout. I do love his voice and his playing so I will be doing another one. Your recommendation sounds good to me. Thank you!
Bill, call Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer...nowwwwww...and fly straight to SantaClausVillage (Rovaniemi), Finland...... Send me a card from there, to Rich, The Neherlands🎅🎅🎅
🤣🤣Firstly, I plan on reading Rudolph as a little fun goofy video to make people smile and secondly, there's a live webcam from SantaClauseVillage that I keep my eye on constantly!! Well Rich, since you've been such a good boy keep an eye out for that card. You've earned it!!Love from Sinterklaas! 🎅❤️
@@BemusingBill Hohohooooo!!! Promised, Sir! I really love watching you and a bit proud that those small Netherlands provide such amazing bands in the Symphonic Metal scene...and Sweden and Finland ofcourse ❤️
And it was an angel singing. "I'm your little brother, I came from heaven. The tiny seed you gave to the poor, got your small brother, from the land of angels"

😂 My bad.
I think Marko does look older than that. I have a daughter a tad younger than him so I'm right there with you age wise.
🎄

I'm intrigued! so many amazing vocalists from Finland that that is a bold claim. I will check him out! Thank you❤️
@@BemusingBill Indeed! Marko is great, obviously, but I've personally always been drawn to the darker, deeper voices, and JP's voice is amazing.
Merry Christmas to you also! Greets from Finland !
Thanks for your great reaction ❤ Marko ❤ this song is awesome
