Great breakdown. I covered this song many times live, works everytime in the third set. Never bothered to sit down and actually learn the solo. I guess you could say I faked it. I copped the intro and just winged the rest. Here's the thing...no one ever called me on it...not once. Those are choice licks. I learned something. Thanks. :)
Yeah man - I do that with Slash’s Nightrain outro solo. The shreddy part right at the end I just fast improv in A pento scale an no one batters and eyelid. 👍
Dude, congrats on 400k! You totally deserve it, your lessons are the most correct and easiest to understand on youtube. I think more than 80% of the songs I know I've learned from you. Keep on rocking!
Parminder Benipal, maybe because he isn’t playing it with the same feel that Marty does. Getting that feel is difficult for some guitarists. Just watch Chris Zoupa’s tutorial on it & you will HEAR the difference. Chris plays it more like Marty did.
It's really good, he is a good teacher, but the "hate" might be because he is playing it incorrectly. It's a reasonable facsimile, but not quite what Marty played/wrote. I agree no need for any bad comments, but I can see dislikes.
Most versatile guitar teacher....I'm damn sure he can play everything from 17th century to now...please try some Alter Bridge....You will definitely enjoy their music. thanx
Wow I’ve been trying to figure out that bit when it first starts going fast with the economy picking for weeks... you explained it and broke it down so easily! Thanks so much for this!
Hey Carl I just want to say thanks for the good details that you put on this guitar lesson, I learned the song very quick. Thanks man and rock on with new guitar lessons.
Hey what's up Carl. My brother I just felt compelled to tell you that you really are a fantastic teacher. We are all better guitar players by having found you. Thanks homey!
Man I have been trying to learn this solo for 2 years straight. No joke I spent 2 whole years straight up practicing this solo over and over again. My father memorized the starting lick because I played it so much. And to this day I never got it up to speed. Most I could manage was 100 and past that was straight up gibberish. I give up.
you're absolutely amazing. great demeanor, great attitude and the best part is you're a great teacher... i learned it within a couple hours following your video.... #fromBangladesh
Unbelievable Carl, no matter what cool rock or heavy song, you have a great exercise with right notes and correct style. I like your videos very much, greetings from Austria
Everybody like "do this! do that Carl!" How about "learn this, than ask for that?" or "Thanks!" These solos are a pain in the ass to learn but it´s a thread of musical information and skill that´s just mad. All those 80´s 90´s kilos of coke and heroin and litters of beer where put to some good use in the end :P
As megadeth was my reason I started playing guitar 3 months back, I would really like to play this solo. I'll see if I can tackle any part of it, thanks for the lesson!
Great lesson I learned a lot from it, In my opinion when the iconic arpeggios starts after this first fast lick it's better to do insert pick it rly helps with the overall speed, thanks for awesome lesson again ❤
Okay so I was doing pretty well until the "unison bend" at 2:11 I can't get a clear sound off the b, seems my finger on the g is cutting off the sound because I can't curve it enough to get two clean notes let alone achieve the bend at the same time Any tips/exercises anyone knows of to help with this? Edit: Kinda getting it, bend included... you gotta be super precise, guess it'll just be muscle memory over time If anyone is reading this with the same problem, essentially what I did was I sat up straighter, and then placed my finger on the b string note first, got it clean then added the g note on top of that as routinely as possible, found this really small sweet spot where the notes both ring out even with the bend applied I think it was a little misleading for me as you always get told to keep you wrist low to extend you reach across the fretboard, but in this instance to have both the form for note clarity & the strength to perform the bend accurately I found bringing my wrist up and thumb slipping over the top of the board to provide a better result, kinda hard to transition to, hence thoughts about about muscle memory Now I just need to practice as it's very easy for this position to slip when applying the bend and then you don't get clear notes & also to make the muscle memory to easily jump the position from this first little movement Good luck!
Another awesome lesson! You're really banging these lessons out! Everytime I get the itch to learn other bands songs, I'm finding myself looking to see if you've done a lesson. I don't think I've seen you do a lesson on "call of Ktulu" ...If you ever get the itch to do that, I would definitely check that out!!!
Hey man, I wouldn't mind if you broke it down in 3 or 4 videos lol Its an amazing song, its up there on my favorite Metallica songs list. So eerie and powerful sounding. No lyrics needed, the music tells the story. I always ask others and myself, "How in the hell did they write all these amazing songs??" Its just unreal how many amazing songs they have....and they're still going strong!
Hey Carl ,thank you so much for these lessons ,they're therapeutic! I was wondering if you could look at an old April Wine song "Roller" the solo seems some what of a handful
Carl, y u reply to everyone else but me lol, thanks for your efforts in sharing your knowledge with us. Almost all my skills and techniques came from you. Can't thank you enough.

Thanks carl....this solo is not that easy to play.. But you teach it so well.... I finally got all the parts done... Now I just gotta work on playing it fast.. Thank you so much...
I am 61, and you taught me the lead to s.o.d. always got some fast kid to do that shot, but none available. this is now on the list. thanks, and keep it up.
This solo is really tough! Once I get it, it'll be the first "hard" solo that I've learned. I've gotten all the notes memorized, I just have to start increasing the speed. I've tried learning other Megadeth solos, but this is the first one that really has started to feel achievable to me.
@@hollow2xs630 Still working on it! I'm getting faster, although I'm not at Marty speeds just yet. The fast appergio lick that moves up the neck is giving me trouble right now. I've tried Dave's Holy Wars solo, but I find his solos hard to wrap my head around for whatever reason.
Hi Carl do you think you could do some tutorials on some anthrax songs? i find spitz' style quite hard to learn and would love if if you could do a vid showing how to play his solos
I had a lot of trouble figuring out the timing for that first shred section. A metronome would help a lot with placing the strange groupings and denominations Marty Friedman uses in his phrasing. Great walkthrough nonetheless, thank you.
Gregory Brewis take your time bro.. I know the feeling... I was not able to play this fast as well but i am working on it and now i can play a lot better... It's all about practice and time... Good luck
Simply put the guitar down and meditate on this for 8 months. Then... come back and realize you forgot how to play guitar and start from the basics. Rinse and repeat until you become an anomaly that can play anything first try.
Would love ANY older 1970's Brian May/QUEEN like March Of The Black Queen or The Ogre Battle or 1970's Judas Priest such as Tyrant, Stained Class, Sinner or Beyond The Realms Of Death ... Thanks and you Rock.
Marty Friedman’s picking style is so unique. Sounds like he’s sweeping when he’s up picking arpeggios. Respect to pulling this cover off so cleanly.
