@@halesentertainment2334 Some of the Polands solos from Peace sells are quite hard to replicate. Otherwise you are right. Getting good vibrato and bending are the hardest part with the other solos mostly. Broderick solos are basically just damn fast with some arpeggios and string skipping, hard solos for sure.
There's a whole wonderful, enlightening pile up of great things happening here. 1# Your style is melodic usually - I've never known you as being a fast player 2# You absolutely nail those fast parts, as you should #3 You figured it out by ear - as you should, being the kind of musician you are #4 The realisation that Marty Friedman, way before the internet (1990) way before instant access to every guitar lesson and technique, way before instant access to all music available, conceived and recorded this astonishing piece of music.
I wanna believe he was just learning this for the first time, but no one as good as he is at guitar who also really enjoys this style of solo doesnt already vaguely know how to play this masterpiece.
5:47 sounds like it's actually not an arpeggio but more like the Japanese pentatonic scale Marty always incorporated in this playing. Minor scale, drop the 4th and the 7th notes
"RIP people with small hands" I have relatively small hands and, at first, that passage seemed impossible for my hands, at least at that speed. After 1-2 weeks of irregular practice it became relatively easy. If you can stretch your fingers to both keys statically, using a proper posture and tecnique, then there's a good chance you can play that passage.
@@Transcendental1112 I wouldn't know where to begin😂 If I had to say one, I think I'd go with the main solo from Pike 65 "Hold Me Forever" but again there's just so damn many to choose from lol
Marty friedman is so instantly recognisable. The japanese scales aming other things, but also his offbeat feeling, looks like he's always inproblvising. Kiko loureiro i also love.

@@definitelyadarkangel9225 Well i won a ticket for Marty Friedmans show in 2006. There i somehow met some people and ended up working for Ernie Ball going backstage and meeting pretty much every guitar hero touring my country after that: steve vai, john petrucci, deep purple etc etc. Kiko i met because he wanted to try a fretless guitar and there's a company in my country that does them (Vigier Guitars).
seth bishop i started learning the basics on a site called justinguitars.com, found it by accident really. The site got me started on major scales, modes, and basic time signature. After that it’s a matter of googling what i want to know next, at least for me. The most productive way (and arguably easiest) to learn theory is by hiring an experienced tutor, so preferably do it if you have money to spare
I've watched this several times now, and I've watched Marty's "replacements" in Megadeth and the only one of them I felt did a good job of it was Kiko Loureiro because he decided to keep all the elements that Marty's brilliance created, but to make it his own with his phrasing and style.. I admire your attempt at recreation but there is only one Marty Friedman, the only way to play this solo fluidly is to practice it enough that it becomes yours. Marty Friedman came up with this masterpiece in his twenties...Young Dave Mustaine at his most arrogant shook his hand and thanked him after he heard it LOL!
I don't understand why someone would give 362 dislikes to this video. I just don't understand. It's maybe one of the hardest solos of metal music and this guy is trying to learn (and teach us through) it. He says it: "Learning". And he is giving pieces of advice from experience (for free!). Appreciate it, fuck. It's admirable. I mean... We are talking about Marty Fucking Friedman... Sorry about my english. Best regards from Barcelona, Spain.
It feels like he missed some important notes in the solo, especially in the beggining, not criticizing, it just seems a little emptier than megadeth’s version, anyway... I couldn’t do any better than this lol
I mean yeah....this is clearly not as good as Marty though a very good version for someone learning like that(I'd be curious how long it took him to get to the final version. To be fair every guitarist Megadeth got after Marty still couldn't pull this solo off as good as that album though some are very close. The biggest issue with most versions of this solo is that they sound like a more robotic version and they tend to miss some of the important subtle notes. He even describes the issue with playing this is the melodic rhythm on the notes which is something no other Megadeth guitarist could pull off as well as Marty.
@@danielsgrunge Kiko does a very good job and does the best version I heard outside of Marty. Broderick version is pretty lackluster being its a robotic rendition which misses why this solo works with the melodic rhythm as explained in this video at 2:40
If you watch it’s live performance or look at tabs the beginning part is a lot different but he did really good job at other parts. He is playing by ear of course it’s not going to be perfect we shouldn’t care that much because Tyler is legend and yes Kiko’s live performance was very accurate and well played.but any way we should thank megadeth members and marty for rust in peace.
I love Chris Poland. He is incredibly fast and fluid but the odd phrasing and all over the neck Marty does is a bit more challenging. I can't play nearly as fast as Poland but I can get through his legato style and rips... I can not play Marty solos
@@ApothecaryTerry Opposite problem for me. It's more frustrating in a way - anyone can build technical skill with enough time and practice. I can't make my hands something they're not though.
that was awesome! thanks so much for breaking down the theory and thought process behind the playing. I feel so much is lost in TABS and this brings it all back.
Fair play you did an absolutely awesome job on playing this solo! It’s an incredibly hard set of progressions that the vast majority of people cannot play! Marty’s best and hardest solo mastered!
I'm not a guy who comments on much, however i felt it crucial for me to let you know that i am proud of you fine sir. I thoroughly enjoyed watching your learning process. took me back to me and my older brothers learning BTBAM solos when learning to sweep. we challenged each other to learn it the fastest. my oldest brother won. ....... i still cant sweep............ 10/10 would recommend
Ryder Mendelson I'm a big ass Poland fan and I don't know if that's true or not. The thing is Poland's solos in those 2 songs note wise are pretty "standard" so to speak (as in not too many weird notes or timing) but to get his phrasing correctly, then they are damned hard to play properly. His bends in particular and overall cleanliness are insane. And there's his signature lick trying to imitate Jan Hammer that is very tough!
J S ua-cam.com/video/HWTtu6LyS2A/v-deo.html Then listen to Devils Island and the lick appears at 4:36 approximately. On I Ain’t Superstitious he uses it on his last solo.
Walamonga 1313 that lick is straight savage. Poland is a fucking monster. Awesome he’s stealing licks from some of my favourite fusion albums Awesome video thanks for that link man

That would be pretty much impossible, no matter how good you are... Hell i bet that even kirk himself couldn`t play any of the solos from that album again if he tried...

this videos actually really inspiring for me, as im kind of a beginner guitarist whos never really practiced doing something more melodically solo. im not going to attempt something as advanced as this solo (which is super kickass), but it still kind of makes me want to do something a little different than what i normally go for. also, the guitar looks sick and the video presentation comes across as being super genuine, which i appreciate a ton. i'll definitely be watching more from this channel in the future!

Pranav Dhokre I myself have learnt Fermented along with epitaph. And from my experience I find epitaph to be harder...but will check out stillborn one. OK, two more comments. I can't resist. 1) That guitar is hot. I want it more than any other I've seen given away. 2) Good God Almighty, you can play. I'm blown away. I said that out loud when you hit that stretch at that speed. If I win that axe I'll never be able to do what you just did on it, but I'll make her a good home and play the best I can. I promise.
I don't think Tornado of Souls is the hardest Megadeth solo. I woulden't even say it's the hardest solo on Rust in Peace. It's just one of the most famous/popular.
Holy SHIT Tyler!!! I've watched countless MiW vids but...this is the single sickest thing I've seen you play. Umm...wow...that stretch hammer on part at the end was insane man.
@@NoidCast This is completely false. Marty wrote that solo along with Lucretia and others. Both of them have a very distinct style and you can tell Marty definitely wrote it due to his signature bends/arpeggios. He even said in an interview that after he finished this solo Dave shook his hand due to how great this solo is.
Although learning solos by ear is generally sound advice, that doesn't work with Marty Friedman solos. I struggled with this solo for years until I really sat down, gathered all the tabs I could find, watched Marty live videos, Marty instructional videos, and the best video covers of this solo. There are some parts in there that can only be played with one specific fingering and one specific picking pattern. Those fast signature arpeggios are sweep picked. The ending climax licks are very specific hammered on chromatic notes on two strings. The descending superfast lick leading into that bluesy phrase at the end of the solo is a very specific pattern. Trust me, you can't go into this solo half-assed with the "I'll pick it up by ear" mentality. I learned this the hard way. Finally, after 15 years of wasted practice time, I can play it note-for-note, but not at tempo 190. On a good day, maybe tempo 175.
I will be an arse, but bare (bear? beer? bared???) with me for a second: sometimes, 175 isn't just enough. I'm the lead guitarist in a little local band, but I suck, and everybody knows it. Granted, I don't suck in the way I misplay my tunes, but I suck in the way I can't get the note-for-note badge for some tunes. So I have to make up for a lot of stuff. Good thing is most people in the audience don't even notice, because they don't even know the songs all that well, or either can't hear it down to that level of detail. I am no fool, this doesn't make me better; but it sure keeps the show going, and it looks like it doesn't kill it for nobody (mostly). I even sometimes get praised for things I purposedly know I misplayed. I think sometimes, fluidity will get you more upvotes than perfection; that's a tough lesson I had to learn, but boy did it change my life. Sometimes³, the adequacy you can do brings you further than the perfection you can't reach. As long as you know you're not there yet, you'll keep improving, until maybe that day where you get that flawless badge. Lesson learned.
Also, if I can add a middle term between both approaches (ear vs. tabs/parts): I think a good middle ground would be to take it as far as one can by themselves for the added benefits of it, then proceed with rectification from Certified Professionals(C) as a proof-playing solution. Then one gets the best of both worlds, IMNSHO (in my not-so-humble opinion). Makes sense?

They're all so fast u can't even hear them😂😂
Maybe some kind of wha wha wha wha solo
22:33 "It is basically the entire solo in two bars". Died
I wanna believe he was just learning this for the first time, but no one as good as he is at guitar who also really enjoys this style of solo doesnt already vaguely know how to play this masterpiece.
You have a great ear for music.. cannot believe learning that solo just by ear.. good job man.
I hate when people compare Marty Friedman to God. I mean he is cool but he is NOT Marty
Robert Thought twice about your comment. Then 😂😂😂
Zing!!! 👍
Robert oh, look.
corny jokes.
The only true God is dimebag darrel
Ive never seen this joke before
Fantastic to watch a knowledgeable player figure something out. GOOD JOB!!
Just started learning symphony of destruction a minute ago...nice
De si brate!
Imamo isti ime
Gotta start somewhere man! I play bass though so.... Lol
Im having a hard time with those arpeggios on the solo
5:47 sounds like it's actually not an arpeggio but more like the Japanese pentatonic scale Marty always incorporated in this playing. Minor scale, drop the 4th and the 7th notes
"RIP people with small hands"
I have relatively small hands and, at first, that passage seemed impossible for my hands, at least at that speed. After 1-2 weeks of irregular practice it became relatively easy. If you can stretch your fingers to both keys statically, using a proper posture and tecnique, then there's a good chance you can play that passage.
Hardest pantera solo
Pure technical or having the same emotions coming from the strings?
Definitely Domination
Phycho Holiday
The sleep
Cemetery gates
Damn thats a great tone
WHOAAAA!! Congrats, buddy!!!! I watched from beginning till the end and I was not expecting you playing the entire solo. Amaaaaazing!
Learn the hardest Buckethead solo
Travis Green Project Little Man! Which do you think is the hardest!? Literally too many to choose from 😱
No one can play Bucketheads solos/Guthrie Govans solos, that's just a fact.
@@Transcendental1112 I wouldn't know where to begin😂 If I had to say one, I think I'd go with the main solo from Pike 65 "Hold Me Forever" but again there's just so damn many to choose from lol
Sourced Autonomy. 14 minutes, all shred.
I'm pretty sure that Jordan or Soothsayer are pretty damn hard
Marty friedman is so instantly recognisable. The japanese scales aming other things, but also his offbeat feeling, looks like he's always inproblvising. Kiko loureiro i also love.
Kiko is awesome. Hes definitely on the underrated side.
@@definitelyadarkangel9225 i'm actually a huge fan of both, i met both of them and use their solo albums to replace music from videogames when it's not god !!! No Gravity and Music For Speeding in Particular.
@@Soldano999 huh I didn't know that. That's pretty cool. I haven't met any of my favorite musicians.
Really enjoyed this video!
Megadeth was a huge deal for me when I started playing Electric Guitar and shaped my whole playing style to this day!
This is the power of music theory.
Writing the solo yes. Learning it just requires really good ear training.
@@grabber_blu_angel Theory helps a lot with predicting or making sense of what one is hearing!
How would you recommend learning music theory? UA-cam? A music book?
seth bishop i started learning the basics on a site called justinguitars.com, found it by accident really. The site got me started on major scales, modes, and basic time signature. After that it’s a matter of googling what i want to know next, at least for me. The most productive way (and arguably easiest) to learn theory is by hiring an experienced tutor, so preferably do it if you have money to spare
The solo is wrong in some parts. I mean either he didn't notice or he doesn't care
Learning the hardest Nick Jonas solo
So dead it actually undied ironically, then even that died. It's a very dead guitar meme horse, stop beating it
And Stevie T did that also
It took 5. Whole. Minutes.
Hahahha
it's still easier then playing it on a Stylophone, lol
I can play it all on the triangle
Also harder on piano
Dude not gonna lie once i seen you get that 10 - 17 stretch smooth and hard AF i was like nope im done he got it for sure !! 🤘🏻😝🤘🏻
That solo took me almost two months to get down off of Chris Zoupas tutorial;). That's crazy to just learn that one by ear!!!
Impressive but how bout Mr. Crowley solo 1&2
It's simple. Jealousy, shame of laziness, Ego and small hands
@@greymodoy2126 or bots 🤷🏻♂️
@@83442handle I think Kiko plays it very well adding his own style
I think Chris Poland’s Black Friday Solo is pretty darn hard too
I love Chris Poland. He is incredibly fast and fluid but the odd phrasing and all over the neck Marty does is a bit more challenging. I can't play nearly as fast as Poland but I can get through his legato style and rips... I can not play Marty solos
It's my fave Megadeth solo.
my pinky broke just by watching that signature marty stretch..
I have big hands, that stretch is easy. Playing any of the notes at the right time at the right speed I can't do, but the stretch I've got covered.
10:23 "I think I already went through the hardest section" ahahahah
JFCBFilms Hardest is the ending because it's just a flurry of notes.
Walamonga 1313 yes, without a doubt. The part after the triads is just ridiculous
21:09 LOOOOL i had the same reaction dude haha. such a weird lick
just stumbling upon this now, i love your channel... love this solo just as much if not more. watching you learn it by ear made me geek so hard

This is the reason to learn and gain said skills 😉
Flower Boy Hello
Hardest achievable solo maybe, I love how almost no one even attempts to figure out what Chris Poland was doing on Peace Sells.
I feel as though Hangar 18's or Holy Wars' solos are a bit more challenging technically, though I could see Tornado being harder to get the feel of
That "Whatever this thing is" part of the solo is where Marty Friedman's soul transcends his body. 😂
There are harder Megadeth solos IMO... Chris Poland's solos on I Ain't Superstitious and Devil's Island are nuts.
@@Walamonga1313 I agree. Not very musically complex, but in terms of technical complexity, they are ridiculous.
Walamonga 1313 what’s the sig lick imitating jan hammer?
J S ua-cam.com/video/HWTtu6LyS2A/v-deo.html
Then listen to Devils Island and the lick appears at 4:36 approximately. On I Ain’t Superstitious he uses it on his last solo.
Walamonga 1313 that lick is straight savage. Poland is a fucking monster. Awesome he’s stealing licks from some of my favourite fusion albums
Awesome video thanks for that link man
Ben Eller breaks down the solo beautifully on his youtube channel btw.
Agreed, was a great lesson
By far the BEST take on that thing... you nailed it dude!! Being trying for decades... but you trained my brain!!
Dang. Marty Friedman’s a beast and props to you for doing this.
The most important thing to remember when learning a Marty Friedman solo, is to get frustrated and give up.
I was really anticipating your reaction to the 17- 10 stretch :D It is a killer, I've tried picking this out before and still haven't got it. That end solo was badass dude, great work!
You feel my cold breath. It's the kiss of death! \m/
It's the mega deth
I cracked up at 22:01, that was exactly my reaction too! but you did a great job adding your own licks, really loved 25:11, it sounds both in tune, dissonant and sexy at the same time.
PS: all the more reason to appreciate Chris Zoupa, he saved my life with the lesson
That was awesome, man. Well done. You rock
Learn the hardest solo from St. Anger.
I think thats too hard
It was so hard your ears literally couldn't hear it.
That would be pretty much impossible, no matter how good you are... Hell i bet that even kirk himself couldn`t play any of the solos from that album again if he tried...
BearLikesVodka lol
John Cage did a full compilation of the solos from St. Anger. It's called 4'33. Truly amazing work.
honestly I didn't know it could be this entertaining to watch a dude trying to learn a solo for 24 minutes
btw if you think this solo is difficult, you should try throes of rejection by pantera!
Dimebag is a great but he honestly cant hold a candle to marty
@@USAAMERICAFUCKYEAH77 Fark off!!..👀
this videos actually really inspiring for me, as im kind of a beginner guitarist whos never really practiced doing something more melodically solo. im not going to attempt something as advanced as this solo (which is super kickass), but it still kind of makes me want to do something a little different than what i normally go for. also, the guitar looks sick and the video presentation comes across as being super genuine, which i appreciate a ton. i'll definitely be watching more from this channel in the future!
How about some Buckethead songs?
I wanna know of he can do Nottingham Lace. That song is brutal on every level.

Try to learn the hardest Necrophagist solo.
As if anyone but Suiçmez himself will get that done 😁🤘
Which would you say it would be?
Probably Epitaph or Igonomious and Pale
Jibraeel Danish Fermented would be it.. or stillborn one!
Pranav Dhokre I myself have learnt Fermented along with epitaph. And from my experience I find epitaph to be harder...but will check out stillborn one.
Plus Suicmez was younger when Onset was released.......so the hardest solos have to be on epitaph........as Necro had more technically capable musicians at that era.
Stillborn one!!!!!!
Learning the hardest Slayer solo (I think is Angel of Death)!
Just abuse the whammy bar xD
brings back so many fond, frustrating memories. pre internet. that sense of accomplishment. audibly grinding away for hours. to learn whatever catches your interest
"Fire bird style guitars aren't good for metal" -Dave Mustaine

You mean King V
@@NoidCast really?
@@NoidCast No Marty wrote Tornado Of Souls Solo.
@@meltingtunafishYou can check out covers from Ben Eller and zoupa, those will get you in the ballpark
According to Marty, he doesn't sweep pick. I started off sweep picking the arpeggios until I saw this ua-cam.com/video/KMkb4pxOc30/v-deo.html
Y Well then Marty is lyring because that's still sweep picking, just not straight 3 or more strings up and down. Sweeping is a motion.
You pretty much nailed it. Well done on such a hard solo... Cheers.
An ad right in the middle of the solo? Lol smh
