Any news is great news. I want the game in my hands now, but I understand waiting and will do so patiently, but I sometimes fear that the game will never be released, so this helped ease my mind, at least they are still working on it.

Yes, to me waiting long is a good sign, actually gets me hyped because having a rushed game would really suck. I never really got tired of waiting but it gets more exciting over time if that makes sense?

My bet is on "kinda news". The newsworthy bit is that Silksong won't appear at SGF, and the hearsay bit is that Team Cherry was hit hard by the pandemic. The former isn't all that significant since Silksong hasn't appeared at all sorts of festivals/expos, and the latter is pretty insubstantial without more details.

It would need to be a Hollow Knight JRPG for that. The only game that has had me clock in anywhere close to that much time as far as I can remember is Xenoblade Chronicles 2, DLC included, with over 400 hours clocked in.

Honestly I'm in the Black Mesa mindset at this point of "whelp, when it's done I'm sure it'll be great" as long as I keep HEARING FROM THEM so I know they didn't just die.
I much rather see a full well polished game like hollow knight than something rushed, I know that when it releases it will be godlike, so I know it is worth the wait

Funny thing is hollow knight WAS rushed. There is a ton of cut content because they didn't have the time nor the budget to do everything they wished for, and yet it came out as a masterpiece. Now that they have both time and money I'm sure it will live up to the hype

@@A_Weird_Angel Well yes and no they basically just kept making the game bigger and bigger until time constraints and budget wouldn't allow them to make it bigger they said they had the base game completed and ready for release but just wanted to keep expanding now they have tons more money and as much time as they want so yeah

I feel like people fail to realize that most people aren't demanding or wanting the game to be out now. We literally just went news. Not big major updates like new areas or what kind of new boss is in it. Just news like how far they think they are to finishing or if they are even still working on it at all. You can't just make a demo for your game at E3 and then go radio silent for 3 years

im just glad we get news! I don't mind waiting, we've already waited this long so yea. as long as it takes to make the quality, fun, and adventurous game they want to bring into the world, I'm actually glad they're not rushing and actually taking their time. and like I said, any news is good, it's a lot better than silence!
I'm glad the hollow knight community seems to be *fairly* take when waiting for the game. yes there are those few vocal angry people, and there's an understandable wave of frustration in the community whenever there's no news at an event or something like that. but from what I see everyone is mostly very understanding, like I don't see many comments here complaining
Honestly, they can take all the time they need or want for the game. They have proven that they can make great games and they deserve all our patience.

they might not have beed affected directly by Covid but by pandemic restrictions maybe... I can imagine it is hard to work as a team when you can't meet in person for the better part of two or so years

Everyone is affected by Covid, even if they don't get covid. The restrictions especially have been HARSH, and the mental aspect, sheesh.
I was worried that silksong was not gonna release in 2136 and will release in 2137.

Well both Leth (Team Cherr's PR guy) and Griag ( Team Cherry's lead play tester) said the pandemic was not so bad for them. But maybe they sugarcoated things to not panic fans? and maybe things were not as they seemed? and things did changes after those statements which were long long ago.

Every bit information, be it official or not, really refreshes my faith on Silksong (not that it is low tho), so even this "bad" news is a happy news from me.
Just because it doesn’t seem like they’ll appear, doesn’t mean they won’t. You know TC, they are huge pranksters! I still have a small glimpse of hope that they make a surprise appearance.
After Hollow Knight, them making sure they take their time to give a sequel that does the first game justice, is a matter of pride. They don't have anything to show us yet because their pride as a respectable dev team couldn't take anything less than perfect to show us, and I support this decision. Silksong will be just as good as Hollowknight if not better, the devs have implied with this decision. I can't wait to see how this polished marvel will turn out, the second game of this tragic but beautiful world.
As someone who isn't on the Silkong hype train for very long (I finished Hollow Knight around 2 months ago) I still have alot of patience. I just hope they release the game without any major bugs (no pun intended)
Every time a game is released when the fans beg for it to be released, its not well polished and people will hate it. I'm glad they're taking their sweet time with the game, it'll be a masterpiece.

This all but confirms there won't be any news at SGF, but the general statement of not knowing where they're at with the game at the end makes it seem like Geoff isn't really in the loop on silksong's progress.
It could just be that they asked TC if they wanted to show anything, and TC said they weren't ready yet without giving more details.

I'll regret posting this, but I think we will get the release date before the end of this year. My guess is February 2023. Almost exactly 4 years after it was announced.
Just a wild guess based on the original game taking their small team 27 months? We know they've spent the last 40 months refining what they showed us in February of 2019. I'd imagine what we saw took quite a while to develop as well. My assumption was the pandemic impacted them in a major way. It was cool of Keighley to let fans know what is going on.
My only real complaint is Switch/PC only at launch. So whatever time we have until release I might as well add another 18-20 months before it hits PS5. Makes a person begin to start questioning their own mortality. On the bright side I'm sure Nintendo paid Team Cherry well for launch window exclusivity. Those guys definitely deserve the money too.
Do you know if it will be released on Mac too?

Some say the release of Silksong will mark the beginning of a golden era, an age of peace and prosperity, one that will bring about a unifying bond so powerful that civilization will progress faster in the next decade than all of human history 10 times over. I can't say that I believe them, but by god, I hope they're right.
confusing, because I remember someone meeting one of the devs from Team Cherry a while ago and they said on that Team Cherry wasn't really interfered by the pandemic that much since they're a small studio. I might be mismembering things though. And I don't think this breaks any hopes for a new trailer, on Nintendo Direct for example. We will see ig

Leth contradcted a long time ago, on the steam forums if I recall correctly, that the team wasn't all that impacted by the pandemic (they are a small team, so remote work is far easier to coordinate). In fact they probably were more impacted by one of them getting apaternity leave (I think it was William? Don't quote me on that though), than anything else.
It's clear from the quotes that while Geoff keeps in touch with them, what he knows is actually very surface level, so no extrapolations about development should be made.

And I could give some credence to the thought if he only had made that comentary in the answer. I was a huge fan, I know the more they work on it the better it will be but now, after three years, I've lost all the hype. Like Hazbin Hotel, my hype turned to frustration, and then I started ignoring all the information about the game.

yeah i just like. i hate this. genuinely this is just bad for any company to be this silent. i’m fine with waiting, sure whatever. but maybe having most of the actual information we get be from third party sources is bad? maybe not telling the community to, at least, be more patient as the pandemic hit hard is bad? maybe they announced the game too early? like at this point, the game simply won’t be able to live up to my expectations. it just won’t. and that’s a damn shame, since i fell so in love with hollow knight that it got me into game development.

It's almost wholesome how a vast majority of people have switched from Wanting The Game Hype to still being hyped, but more worried about the developers who have given nothing but radio silence. We're not asking for a release date, we're asking to see if the devs are alive and well. What's actually more surprising imo is this mentality has started leaking into other games still in development, and I think it's a nice change. Demanding games sooner means we get broken messes, and nobody likes those.

The more pressure you make, the less likely it is for a continuation. Get that in your head, folks. The game will come, when its ready. Why do people nowadays take it for granted, that games have to be made fast and good aswell? Even games are art in itself. What do you want: a masterpiece, fully rounded up and with np literal bugs or something rushed, which has flaws without end, doesnt saturate your cravings and worst of all would ruin the whole expierience. Grow up!
i think people are willing to wait and are patiently awaiting the release of Silksong whenever it decides to come out - at this point the whole "Silksong should release any minute now" is more or less a meme, we understand that Team Cherry is working on the game and want a well made game regardless of how long it takes
or at least I hope that people view it this way...

I think even when and if this comes out, fans will unapologetically tear it apart. “This is literally just this enemy with a different skin” “this boss is literally the same as this one with more moves” I just like everyone else is looking forward to this game but there should be as little pressure on the developers as possible. They are already trying to follow hollow knight, we don’t need to add anything except support.

Y'know until I watched this, I had totally forgotten about the pandemic and never considered how it might have affected a small team such as TC over the past few years, so I guess the amount of time it's been since the reveal is more reasonable.
Regardless, hopefully they're still taking their time to produce a masterpiece that is of an equal to or better than Hollow Knight!
