After you beat the final boss you get a single line of congratulations and you get dropped back to DOS. However if you play this on the Amiga there was an ending cut scene. From what I heard it would have required shipping another 720K floppy disc with the PC game and they didn't expect many people to reach the end so they dropped it to save costs. The Amiga floppy format was 800K per disc so it had room to include the proper ending. You can find the true ending if you search on UA-cam.
Seeing this at a friend's house (around 93) quickly morphed into an entire evening spent spelunking. Oh, we found all the traps, never fear fellow adventurers, lol!
I was such an SSI fanboy back in the day. I was in my late teens and early 20s when all these games came flooding out and I played (mostly pirated lol) all of them. I loooved mapping them out on graph paper etc. Good times.
The EOB games were the greatest thing ever back around 1990 on the Amiga. Disappointed in the 3rd one, but the first 2 were classics. It really needed a built-in mapper, though! Thanks for the memories.
Well this really brings back memories! God knows how much time I spent playing these games, both at the time and many years later using DOSBox. I actually got the EOTB2 first (I think my dad bought it) and enjoyed it so much that I bought the original game after I'd finished it. A year or two later, I got the third for my birthday, which while it was a definite disappointment, I don't think it's as bad some people say. (Subscribed BTW! 🙂👍)
I grew up,playing similar games and honestly I agree. It’s a slog to say the best being played these days without mods and Addons to fix it. I love the classics, and other games, but I can’t get through it anymore. I can understand why the little ones struggle these days.
It'd be interesting to see your opinion on comparisons between this and it's future genre title Legend of Grimrock. I'm only halfway through the vid so apologies if you already mention it
You compare EotB to Secret of the Silver Blades, while you should compare it to Dungeon Master instead. A game from 1987! EotB borrows almost everything from Dungeon Master. It refines the graphics and the story, simplifies some features, but at it's core it's a Dungeon Master clone. Both games were awesome in my opinion.
I could never get past the spinner level 🥲 Always found it funny that you get an amazing cinematic intro but a wall of text congratulatory end screen...

Cannot wait for you to enjoy EOB2. Very streamlined, very clearly a proto Lands of Lore

i felt the same way about eye of the beholder. A mini map would change so much! i may have to try it again!

Right?? I guess they blew through the budget in early development lol.
@@fandraxx nah, they wanted to fit everything on one disk and the outro had to be cut
the amiga one has a full ending
