    I played this game for the first-time last year and fell in love pretty quickly. Not instantly, because I first tried it on mobile and didn't love that version of it, but for some reason, ended up buying it on Stream and giving it another try on PC. Probably in my top 10 games tbh. I still haven't beaten 2, because I started it right after finishing the first one and just got burnt out about 10 hours in.

    I’m fine with however you go, can totally get how easily it would stagnate interest if you’re feeling trapped in trying to describe a game but it’s so similar to many others and you just wanna get to where you feel you can say the most. To be fair it doesn’t feel like it strays too far from what you do since plenty of your videos comes with these digressions like with the I have no mouth and I must scream review and its relation to how it adapts the original short story. Nonetheless I hope you can get to a more comfortable pace with this change up

    • @fandraxx
      @fandraxx 10 днів тому

      The idea is that, with this split, I'll be able to go even further into detail about those aspects a la a video like the I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream one. Right now, Musings is everything; review, analysis, critique, etc. - by splitting that all up a bit, it should make the videos a bit easier to make and higher quality overall.

    I love Dungeon Hack, but I always wished it was more like "Eye of the Beholder: Infinite Adventures." Having a 4-member party would make the game much more playable. As it stands, going in with a character lacking cleric abilities is essentially hard mode.

But I've never really had a chance to play. EDIT: That's not the original TSR logo, that's what I remember as the end-stage TSR logo. The one they had right before they were acquired by WotC.

    I am not gonna lie - in current day market I feel there is a place for MMO like this. Yeah, most people play WoW, ESO, FFXIV or GW2, but games like DDO are unique and have their own charm. Yeah, I love to spend my time in Eorzea and go on next grand adventure or save the world from certain doom, or help dragon to save his sister from kinda-evil-but-more-desperate-Darth-Vader from another dimension but sometimes going through simple dungeon and doing traditional D&D like activities just feels right.

    I’ve never seen them back in the day but it could be I wasn’t looking, since I’ve always been more into the books than dice. Allegedly they were trying to compete with Magic the Gathering but they look so cheap and probably more expensive to produce than Magic’s card stock and great art.

    What absolutely kills me about IWD is that it did things many give account to original Baldur's Gate. Like proper race/class reactions and dialogue choice. In BG there was no such thing at all. In IWD one of first things that happen after tutorial is over - you meet the giant with a headache in an optional location. Normally you would have to go to Kuldahar, talk to town's headmaster, and return to giant, but if you have druid in the party, they will do exactly the same thing and will provide help to poor creature. Ain't that nice?

  • @BaneMcDeath
    @BaneMcDeath Місяць тому

    I owned this first on c64. You can transfer Curse characters also to Hillsfar. Now, I've completed it with my entire party on c64 and I think they retained the hp boost. I can't say the dos version did that. The game can get challenging as your quests get closer to the end. Missed opportunity to have combat like the AOL Neverwinter Nights. Now, there are a lot of art assets here that maybe could be used in FRUA.

    Don't take it too hard, a lot of people haven't beat Shadow Sorcerer. Also: I low-key love that manual: "SAVING IS FOR LOSERS!" The only way it could be more upfront about it is if the game told you that every time you loaded from a save.

    I've had my eye on Shadow Sorcerer specifically because it seemed at least superficially a lot more like Infinity Engine in presentation and play and less like the kinda weird blobber/top down tactical mesh of the Gold Box stuff. Funny to see you making that comparison here. Just a shame that the game itself seems so shit, haha. Great video as always though, and very tight editing and writing.

  • @gerbendekker3273

    Aside from the music, which was nominated for a BAFTA (as well as in another category), the writing and VA performances excel in all regards when it comes to the unlockable monologues for each of the characters, which also include Drizzt, Ygorl, and Cireka (which is an interesting touch). Together these are a veritable masterclass in how to (de)construct subtext as well as deliver its narration with surgical precision. Of particular note among these is Khelben's letter to Illius performed by Patrick Stewart (big surprise, but still). Through those unlockables alone my perspective was shifted to believe that Illius was more or less set up to be the leading character among the three. When you say in this video that the writing and narrative are the focus of the game, those unlockable dialogues are the main proof to emphasize that point, the worldbuilding that's happening around the game's story notwithstanding.

    Beamdog censored Baldurs Gate. In the original game, farmers would sometimes say: "The sheep haven't been putting out lately." Not sure what else they might've removed, but that was a funny and memorable line and easy to spot missing.

    Man - this video proves how horrid your takes are - in the icewind dale 2 video, you say how great it is that you can choose what you want to install or not - and not have content forced on you - yet having a mod to remove the content you don't want is 'irrational'? Further, saying that people complain too much about the state of new releases? Yeah - name one new release in the last 3 years that wasn't a broken, buggy mess. did you have to think about it? That's the issue. Finally, the new content is 'current year' - and bg1 is a legend, as well as bg 2 - so you don't change that - and if the game had brought some good - people would have cared less On my steam deck - Bg trilogy - with the original bg games - planescape - original icewind dale 1 - ee - they didn't screw this one up at least icewind dale 2 - it runs but not great - still a WIP but got it about 70% there The ee games are bad - and they only succeeded because of the low price - and that they're on phone and tablet now - that's really it

    • @fandraxx
      @fandraxx Місяць тому

      To me, there is a huge difference between having the ability to choose between core, fundamental gameplay features - things like rule changes, enemy strength and layout, etc. - and a few characters that, again, can easily be ignored. And, I would disagree with the idea that you cant add/change something that is well regarded. Games like REMake and the definitive edition of Tales of Vesperia added plenty that helped make the games better. Whether or not said additions land is a matter of personal preference. Personally, while I don't mind the characters, I do have an issue with some of the balance changes made to the Enhanced Editions. I don't think they make the games all that measurably worse, but I don't understand them.

    This game was incredible BUT the last maze in the last dungeon just before the final fight was completely bonkers. You lose your map, have a huge open zone covered in traps that send you to an inferior level in another maze (and you still can't use your map down there) and the walls have A LOT of random indents and niches. I never finished the game until a decade later, when I could use a guide only for that part.

I've had the "Leaves from the Inn of the Last Home" book for some time and it has a bunch of recipes for Krynn cousine. I think this book (first printed in the 1980s was way ahead of its time, and maybe even the fist book to have recipes from a Dungeons & Dragons campaign world). Aside from this book, I've also purchased a Middle Earth cookbook, and the Skyrim one has also caught my attention. They always make cool gifts. It's a delicate balance landing a good NES-vania. While, artistically and from the sounds it looks right. Even the movement, which looks cumbersome(it's supposed to), is standard fare when you think back to NES days. Got to hit it right on the upgrades, transversal and combat. Those are important. I'm still going to try it, but definitely waiting for a sale. Good review as always Fandraxx.

      I would say it's definitely worth it on a sale. Like I said, the gameplay itself isn't outright bad, just a bit simplistic. If you're looking for something a bit more nuts-and-bolts, then you'll probably really enjoy it!

    I have been a gamer since 1982. Some men hunt, some men fish, some men golf. I like gaming, especially PC gaming. Unfortunately, something has happened as of late. I am not trying to brag. I am only trying to create a context of my situation. I own thousands of games. It's gotten to a point where it became an obsession. I was collecting them like gold bars. I have so many games that if I were to spend every waking minute of the rest of my life playing them. I would die before scratching the service of this collection. It all started about a month ago. I stopped playing a game because the damn game was ridiculous and it was more of a chore anymore, then pleasure. So, I moved on to something else, and something else, and something else. That is the problem. Either I am slowly growing out of gaming or I can't find any good games anymore. Before anyone says I need another hobby. I run an online collectible store that currently has 11k items. I run a brick and mortar store 6 days a week by myself. I also started writing books. I play maybe 1 hour a day, maybe 6-9 hours a week. I hope my love for gaming isn't disappearing.

      I don't think you're growing out of gaming, but I think a lot of games have started to hit on the same points. There is a lot of redundancy as titles are afraid of pushing boundaries and that makes it harder to find new titles that are fulfilling. By the same token, you find a good one, it feels a lot better nowadays. I appreciate you watching!

    Bud the new content was complete garbage... thats why people want to remove it with mods. Get over yourself.
