Fun fact: That printer has a Load Cell in it! On the front left of the bed there's a load cell to determine the correct Z-Offset to get a good first layer.
After it meshes the bed and has a map/mesh of the surface it moves to the front left and slowly moves the tool head down into the print bed. The load cell starts to sense the pressure and before the toolhead damages the surface it retracts. This lets the printer know exactly how much to squish the first layer to get good adhesion.
That combined with knowing where the bed is slightly higher/lower results in great prints compared to the older Ender 3's
A lot of other great features:
32bit STM32 based board. Pretty similar to the chips running in a lot of Sim Racing gear. Older Ender 3's had 8-bit Atmel chips (Arduino)
Dual (belt driven) lead screws - They're still driven by 1 motor but the older Ender 3 only had a single lead screw meaning the far side of the X gantry could sometimes droop and not be square to the bed and rest of the frame
Linear Rods on the Y - The old Ender used V-slot wheels on extrusion. The wheels could get flat spots and wore away over time. Linear rods are more precise and help with the large moving mass of the Y gantry build plate, bed, carriage + print. This should result in less "ghosting" and artifacts on the Y Axis.
DIRECT DRIVE Extruder - Whoo hoo DD! The extruder motor is on the toolhead on this printer compared to being mounted on the Z gantry on the older Ender 3. Direct drive often results in more consistent extrusion and less stringing. This extruder assembly + hotend are capable of melting filament faster and more consistent as well. DD Extruders can also print flexible filaments much better.
    Better cooling fans
    LCD Control panel
Quieter and more quality TMC Stepper drivers
Really nice printer and a big improvement over older versions of the Ender 3~

Thank you Dan, a very informative and useful video.
It is something I have been considering a good while to get a a 3D printer, but in my head I have never been able to justify getting one, even though I have quite a few things I wanted to print, various projects for my sim racing rig.
I was worried it would be like a lot of things, used a few times and then gathers dust in a corner somewher.
I think you and this video have made me re-evaluate getting one.

I've designed and printed so much stuff (not just) for my rig, the list would be long. On Cults3D I offer a "Universal phone dashboard" for Fanatec or Simucube/VRS-bases, a "XBox One Controller Buttonbox for Sim Racing" or "VR-headset & controller holder" both for aluminium profile rigs and other stuff. I've also printed for example my own keyboard- and mouse tray, windsim-case and -cover, holders for my loudspeaker or adapters for VR-prescription lenses. I've even printed my glasses frame after it broke with two intact lenses which saved me quite some money. I've also tried to fix one of my Buttkicker Mini directly to the HE Ultimate brake-pedal. In the end the Buttkicker was not 'mini' enough and couldn't clutch anymore properly, but it would work with a two-pedal-setup.

I own 3D printer for about a year now - my first project for sim racing was phone holder with led strip on top (2x 8 led) - everything i needed to start playing with simhub. Now I'm working on very specific type of button box with 10-position switch for iRacing Black Box so i can use ones on wheel for something better :D

I got a 3D printer for my racing rig and it's the only thing I've used it for. Great being able to design and print custom 8020 mounts for things no one sells a mount for. Also used it to design and make retainers for corner bracket covers that would fall off otherwise.

  • @user-sn9zw8oq2w
    @user-sn9zw8oq2w 8 місяців тому

i think the main difference between a linear motor and a buttkicker is that the linear motor has a longer stroke, giving a sensation more akin to ABS impacting the foot, whereas a buttkicker has a shorter stroke, feeling more like a vibrator."
The second reason is that the actuator of the Simagic haptic linear module, along with the counterweight, does indeed strike the pedal surface, giving the feet a sensation of being hit. The buttkicker, similar to a speaker, vibrates internally without actually making physical contact with the pedal surface, resulting more in a feeling of vibration."
    it is very cool,Dan,thanks

I bought a used Ender 3 V2 with a BL Touch auto bed levelling sensor and all metal hot end for €130. I designed and printed my own magnetic shifters (obviously not the magnets) for my 4 Thrustmaster rims, a QR, rim wall mounts and HOTAS joystick mounts among countless other functional things. Just those few bits for the rims & HOTAS would have run me €130 to buy online. You can get a basic 3D printer for €50. 100% worth it.
