Does Starlink work in the Arctic Circle?

- Starlink could be revolutionary for remote areas like the arctic or antarctic regions, but does it actually work as advertised?
Update: Not mentioned in the video is the speeds we are actually getting, which range from 20mbps at the lowest to 180mbps, and are hitting the 130-150 mbps average that we were expecting.
Good luck with your Starlink. I just installed mine about a week ago. I'm here in Eastern Alaska at 64 degs. In an area with no ground station so also using the space laser technology. My starlink is working great ! Avg down is 140 MBPS and up is 14 MBPS. Also, in SL documentation they state the operating parameters for the dish is only down to -30C. Well it has been -40C here and I have had zero problems !
Glad to hear! We are seeing those same speeds, just with the interruptions. But it has already improved since I filmed the video! No issues here with the low temps either
I live in Igloolik which is located above the arctic circle and many of us have switched to starlink. The connection is inconsistent, but the speed is phenomenal!
Agreed!
Just came across the video as i was interested in Internet connection there. Has there been any difference in a year?
When is the constellation finished ?
you should make more video's, you are much capable for vlogging, Subscribed
Thanks!
2 basic dishes + disable motors +pointed to opposite sides + bonding ))
They need more satellites
i live in kaktovik alaska and been loving mine used to pay nearly 200 a month for gaming internet (lol astac) and cant even play cod 600 ping the lowest now with starlink i can play it and only pay 110 a month lol
Yeah, same with us. Ping used to be over 600 and now with starlink its between 80 and 120. Huge improvement
Did it improve?
It has improved, but there are still periods where interruption make gaming and video calling unusable. I so far only use it for streaming and downloading and have had no issues, it's awesome!
@@amoriowoods4727what about now
time for a update
How do you have a channel with these speeds! 😂
Maybe you guys tell eon must out there what starlink needs improved if put it out there on youtube he will listen.
In the arctic area, is it face the north or south?
North. Antarctic is south. An- means opposite, eg antonym.
short answer: yes, if you live in alaska you will be fine, for a mysterious reason elon musk saw it fit to prefer his kinsmen over other customers.
when you look at the coverage-maps.
Us 2nd class customers in the rest of the actic cirle ... canada, northern europe has been widely ignored by their sattelite coverage so far.
We are allowed to pay for the interrupted service though. As it stands i cant use it for anything yet - i cant use it for work if i am kicked out of meetings and server-shells randomly, i also dont think i gonna watch movies with constant interruptions. Perhaps i can kick off a download - but that would mean the downloading machine would have to be switched to starlink wifi, and cannot be used for anything at the time that requires a modicum of reliability.
I can deal with that for a short time - although i wonder why they release the sale to regions that are obviously not covered yet. Do they want bad reviews, is that it?
However, there is hope they will increase densite in the future. so i am not suing them yet.
Greetings from finland
I have heard it's a similar issue in alaska. For me, streaming movies in HD or 4k is no problem at all as it's fast enough to buffer beyond where a short service interruption will cause the movie to stop. I think for zoom meetings it's probably not reliable enough yet here.
improved?
Already improved since I filmed the video which is very promising! But still seeing interruptions
AmorioWoods look up mower junkie on youtube he's anytone6666 doing cb radio skip he's also should how make your own homemade basestaion cb antenna pretty cheap all need 12 guage bare copper or 12 guage speaker work all need 102 inches your on cb radio skip.
Neat!
Do you want to enjoy the system or just complain
I was just being informative about how it actually worked at that point in time. As I've mentioned in other comments it's actually already improved substantially since I posted the video.
BS we are already better and without data cap stop to complain !!
The interruptions up here have already improved, just as the Starlink team indicated in their email. Looks promising! My video actually did say that starlink was great, but also that it does not work as intended just yet due to the interruptions, which is true.
