Glad it worked out! You hear mixed reviews on the internet so it is good to hear it worked for you guys. Looking forward to more updates on the move, and some scenery around Skye.
Indeed. This is the reason we made the video. We were totally terrified we’d have no internet. Plenty more updates, adventures and scenery coming soon. 🙂
Thank goodness for Starlink. I'd have been very sad indeed if it hadn't worked. Obviously, you two must be living right. Enjoy your internet as much as I love watching your videos. Bless you!
We just became full time RV travelers in USA and needed internet so husband can work remote. Starlink is amazing, up in the mountains of Tennesee or on the Gulf coast in Alabamanso far. Bit heavy on the monthly payment but hey ho gotta have it. Loving the videos and hi from a fellow Geordie.
Hi Scott family! we have followed your adventures since the start, and were delighted about your move to Skye. We also, [in our 20's} moved to an island off B.C. Canada. Seniors now, we have no regrets, going on 50 yrs!! Also saw your Ft. William pic on the wall. I was born in Ft. William, Ontario, a proud McLean member.[Our pipers beat the Scottish band from F.W. many years ago. My unc was pipe major. Much gloating!! Love to you both and pet Jack for us. Works all over teh UK now. I am on the West coast of Scotland on the NC500 using SL and it's working well. Nice to finally have an option better than Voda 4G up here!
I've got mine up on an old scaffolding pole, with a cut out for the cable. So far it survived Skye's weather over the last year but never got to test it in 90mph winds last January which almost took my garage roof off, but will be paying a close eye on the dish tomorrow night when there's a bit of storm blowing in!
Yeah, you'll no thave an issue with it once it is well secured. The only downside is that the power consumption can be quite high, as much as 100w plus when using the full bandwidth, eg, speedtests etc. I have a backup 4G that automatically used as backup in case Starlink fails, and it never used it. Enjoy the fast internet!
Good that it is working out for you. Being out in isolated areas, it is good to find something that can work out there. Thanks for the info on it as I will be living off the grid soon and may need something like this.
Thank you for sharing your journey in a beautiful country…it seems your all by yourselves up there! Amazing views and i hope your explorations are fun and safe when the weather permits….Sarah your artwork is amazing, hope you are doing well and thanks again, greeting you from California USA…..🌹
Great that you’re internet is working 👌it’s not always easy to get signal in Skye. Hope you guys are settling in well we are seemingly getting a good wind coming in this weekend 😮 . Stay safe and take care 👌♥️
Great news guys! I was very nervous for you and the setup. About 5 years ago when I was looking at remote scottish properties the broadband internet connection was the biggest concern and off put. But with this it puts any location within reach, love your views out the window and the pup randomly appearing!
Perfect situation to use it, no other options and it's really not bad. I've had it for about 9 months and used is successfully at multiple locations in center of USA. Only times I had issues were in places with lots of trees and very little visible sky.
Very glad positive results for you. It's mostly about location, obstruction and elevation aimed at satellites. Descent internet with a few cut outs is far better than no internet. Great to see you and Jack handsome as ever. Take care

great video guys, we traveled to sky a couple of years ago, amazing place and totally loved it and plan of heading back in the further. on our trip, we had mixed internet connection, this seems like the perfect solution for such trip. Thank you for taking the time to put this video together.
Superb guys, thank you. My wife and I are considering a remote location and need reliable internet to remote work like yourselves. This is has really helped ease concerns 👍
Thanks for sharing your review!! The Starlink looks good and the connection seems to work well 👍 Glad you are settling in and love seeing your updates and adore Jack ♥
Ha. This is fun. We got our Starlink about six weeks ago and absolutely love it! When we moved to rural North Carolina, we were worried too about our internet since I upload videos to my channel. We tried everything. We are not having as much luck with upload speeds as you have but I will be giving it a go again soon. I took a break from UA-cam in Nov and Dec be except for watching, glad you like it. I hadn't known anyone who has it.
Thank you so much for making this video, we live quite rural ourselves and currently get around 2mbs. I think it's safe to say, we will be looking into Starlink! Great videos, binge watched them today.
Ah fab! That’s about the same as the BT broadband we have on offer here. Starlink really is a game changer. We literally made this video to help out others that are in a similar situation, so thanks for letting us know the video was helpful. 🙂
@@livingtheskyelife Yeah not great.. especially if you want to upload UA-cam videos 😂 It really has helped us so thank you! We look forward to more videos!

I've been waiting three weeks for our ISP to come and install after making payment for the install. I'm done waiting, and I'll be ordering Starlink tonight! Thanks lads, and all the best with your adventure in the cottage.
Aiden on @BuildingAcerView went for Starlink a while back and seems to be very happy with it. He was even recently interviewed by a foreign language TV station about it. Aiden learned the hard way that they can and do get blown around/over when not secured!
Before you mentioned Starlink, I was worried for you in your remote location & how it might affect your online presence. So it is with a sigh of relief, and happiness for you, that Starlink is a reliable internet option. Continued good wishes for your success online, and in your private lives offline. I agree that drone footage was fab!! My spouse & I have been playing around with our drone...still having problems with getting good color shots from our camera's software, but will keep trying. We have a 2nd property in the mountains of Colorado in a stunning location...but haven't been able to get the same stunning shots that Willie has been getting. More practice is what we need. Willie makes it look easy; but those of us who have attempted, know it is a skill that can improve & isn't usually a "plug and play" kind of scenario.
Hopefully the latency improves over time. It's not as good as they claimed it would be but for normal use it won't matter. From 30ms-94ms I noticed. Would be interesting to know if it's worth the price. Being able to put it pretty much anywhere and move house without it being fixed to the address etc is a big plus. Glad it's working and the right solution for you.
Where I live at 63N the latency has varied a lot since sometimes we have got connections from Norway to Australia. It happens when we hook up to a polar laser chain that has not connected directly with Europe yet. Got to hope Starlink will put up at least one ground station north of 60 degrees, but so far they seem to have canceled the ones they planned. The lasers do work, but the ping will vary with where the signals are connected.
I'm from the highlands but I've been living on a Greek island for 12 years. I'm thinking of getting Starlink here too, as the local broadband is crap. It's be easier for me to use smoke signals. Nice to see some views from home.
good for you guys, I was considering to take it up myself as my BT is 'eeeek', no fibre! Knowing that as long as you have power you can always get a great connection to communicate with the world as you see fit. What a life you're living, may the whiskey flow freely ;)
How amazing to be able to get your Wi-Fi from the satellites spinning around up there. So happy it’s working for you. I’m really enjoying watching your journey ❤️
That's really interesting, thanks for recording the video. Do they give you fittings to attach to a building and what sort of speeds were you getting previously? Did you have wired phone broadband? What is your mobile phone signal like? Again, love both of your personalities!
No problem - we made it because we didn’t want others worrying the way we did. They don’t supply fittings, just the base, but it has holes for attaching to a flat roof. They also supply alternative mounts for different scenarios, but you have to buy them. The speeds before were crazy slow 2mbps at best! That was wired copper broadband. Mobile signal fluctuates between nothing and weak. And thanks - very kind!
So glad Starlink is working for you! You’ve made the transition to a remote life look so easy and appealing! I hope you continue to enjoy this new life. Cutie Jack Spaniel seems to love it…the tail never stops wagging!
Noting that your trusty hound thoroughly approves of the Starlink setup, I decided to acquire one myself since I too reside in a remote location. There can be no debating the significance of two thumbs-ups and several vigorous tail wags. God bless. Over and out.
As I relocated for work in a remote area near Aberdeen I was in a similar situation internet wise and I ordered Starlink myself. I don't have as much access to sky but even with that I get anything between 120-250 mbps in the middle of nowhere in the forest as well, on a very rare occasion the connection drops but that happens if I'm lucky to catch it haha
Brilliant! I want to move to Inner Hebrides but have been worried about broadband. Thank you, this has reassured me that there are extra options if necessary.
It really is amazing technology and will only get better as more satellites are added. Yours is a perfect application, very remote with very poor options from existing providers.
One of my neighbours has Starlink, just too far from the exchange for usable broadband, they have been happy with it… I’m lucky to be nearer the exchange and get nearly 40meg download…. Not bad for a wee bothy in rural Aberdeenshire 🏴
Just to say I have recently found and am enjoying your story. If you check the voltage on your router it is likely to be around 12V DC. So you can run without mains power - no point using a 12v or 24v leisure battery to power an inverter than plugging in a transformer to convert it back to a low DC voltage. Useful if you had a power cut or wanted to use in a van or camping.
I'm considering buying a house in rural aberdeenshire/royal deeside area so nowhere near as remote as you guys. This is was really helpful and has provided a bit of confidence if going the starlink way is needed. Cheers.
Great - that’s why we decided to make the video, as we were really unsure if we’d get anything that would work here. Starlink was our only option and is still just as fast and reliable, over a year on.
Thanks - we were so worried we’d be without decent internet. The previous owner had BT copper Broadband installed that he hadn’t switched off, so we tried it and it would even play a UA-cam video - not at all. So it definitely wouldn’t upload one.
Great video and really enjoying the channel. I'm so conflicted with Starlink, it's a necessary service for sure but I'm grumpy because as a photographer the satellites really mess up astro photography haha! One thing I've noticed in your vids, across the different channels is probably a better need for audio, check out the dji microphone kit, you get 2 wireless mics so you each can be hooked up nice and clear and don't need to worry so much about wind 🙂
Starlink satellites are only visible during the extreme dawn and extreme dusk times when the sun's light still reflect off the satellite down to earth. They're invisible during the times that most people are trying to take pictures of the stars.
@GregSheard Yes, I just made a similar post about Starlink being a great benefit for ppl in remote areas, but how the light & eventual "space junk" pollution has caused significant problems for both professional & amatuer astronomers, photographers, researchers, etc. I also agree that the DJI mike kit would be great for the improvement of this channel, especially since it is in such a windy area. Cheers
Yeah, we saw videos all over the world, but couldn’t find anyone using it in the highlands, or even Scotland, so there was a bit of doubt/worry there - hence making this video.
Agreed I think I need to do a reboot on our Starlink unless its just because we running a family of 9 with so many units using it for work, music, gaming, movies all at the same time.
Hi after ages on the waiting list we had ours last March for internet in the Cambrian mountains in wales. Really pleased with it. It’s been super reliable and fast speeds of up to 478 Mbps download. It’s not cheap but at least the monthly fee has reduced since we’ve installed it. The only annoying part is the size of the cable end you need to drill a hole for into the property. Definitely a game changer for us. Well done Elon
Great to hear! And yes - the end of the cable plug is ludicrous! After designing something that well, surely that would’ve been an easy mistake to avoid!
Great gear Guys. So glad you are ''plugged in'' now! That shot of the mountains at the end was amazing. Coming up on 23K subs is brilliant. Roll on the 50K!! All the very best, John.
Thanks John. That is the Cuillin Ridge. That was shot on one of Jack’s walks! Crazy, I know! And thanks! We’re so pleased with the reception we’re receiving on this channel! Willie 🙂
Make sure you get a battery backup for your router, we found out that it resets if the power goes out. We have a backup generator but even just the short break between when the power goes out and the generator kicks in will reset you back to Stinky.
Thanks for letting us know. We’re not interested in further lining anyone’s pockets… this is purely to help folk in a similar situation. We were quite anxious before we got this.
It's so good that the Starlink worked for you. I have no mobile signal where I live in Devon, unless I hang out of my upstairs window, or walk up the lane! So at least I have a landline telephone, and the internet, but the speed is very slow as you can imagine! xxx
@@ZonkedCompanion Sadly, because of our isolated location, we can not get fibre here - it is in the village, however, which is only 1 mile away. My neighbour has paid a lot of money, to have a faster service, but I would not be able to afford to do this myself. Thank you for your message though. xxx
@@jillychandler ahh yes that's annoying, I have seen a few cases like that where one or two houses are missed as its not worth them digging up the road. There are options for microwave connections as an alternative but as you say they aren't generally cheap. If it were me and I was on friendly terms with my neighbour, I'd offer the neighbour to split the bill then run some cat6 between the houses with a firewall in the middle. Otherwise like you say you are stuck, and with BT due to phase out landlines in the coming years... 💩
Glad you have your internet back, with so many of Elons satellites up there now everyone should be able to go online. 💫 And Jack Spaniels tail still wagging. 🥰
As convenient as it is, remember that this also creates a world where EVERY person on earth will be "tracked" in the future. Tech can be convenince for many, but is not conducive to privacy. There's always bad with the good.
Great video and great surroundings! Living the dream? I live in North Manchester and if Starlink was cheaper per month I'd purchase it! I live on a twenty year old estate. The fastest speed available is 40mbps, I get around 30 as I'm towards the back of the estate. One street up, a new development of ten houses went up in 2021, and these homes can get super fast fibre, around 100mbps. 30mbps works okay with three people in the house, only have lagging problems if all three of us are streaming movies on different devices at the same time.
We got starlink a month back as we didn’t get any decent internet with anyone else so it was our last chance too! Best thing we did! We are in the Highlands and heard good things from people we k ow who also have it up here xx
Very nice. Citry dweller here but have you considered putting a sort of mini greenhouse over it to better protect from the elements? Eventually water, damp, bugs, slugs etc will find a way in. Maybe a glass pyramid or dome may work? Cheers

❤❤❤❤❤ You two are doing great! I'm envious,....not a good thing, I hear.
Brilliant bit of kit to ensure you get internet at such a remote location. It looked really easy to set up too. Take care. Nick
What a learning curve . Great info . I love that last view we saw of the mountains , amazing 👏👏
I like this video.. Testing out tech as it should be !! well done,, 😁😄😃😀,, love the view
When i go off grid, i guess Starlink is ideal, cheers for the honest review.
You guys are living in heaven. Also am glad to see starlink works very well for you guys
Glad to see how well this has worked for you
Thanks. Us too - it’s been a bit of a shock - in a good way. 🙂
So happy that Starlink works for you!
Are you a relative?? 😂
Cheers
I’m guessing you’ll go strangely quiet when you get free access to an orbital telescope made possible by SpaceX.
It works fine in North Pole alaska , so shouldn't have to much probs in uk guys. Check out (Somers in Alaska)
Yeah, we saw videos all over the world, but couldn’t find anyone using it in the highlands, or even Scotland, so there was a bit of doubt/worry there - hence making this video.
God bless technology eh? Glad it is working for you! 💖💂
at Sudamerica, Chile we got 150 to 120 Mbps download and 30 Mbps upload. I miss a public IP, but is a awesome compared with poor ground options.
So happy it worked! 😃💗 x
Totally! We are too. 🙂
It's important when you boot up starlink every time you need to let the network stabilize, it says on the Starlink app whenever you plug it in.
After designing something that well, surely that would’ve been an easy mistake to avoid!
great video-thanks for uploading
Nice to see latency is 30ms … good speed too … comparable to our 4G in the Borders your latency a bit quicker … good to know it works …
Willie 🙂
Thanks for this. We are moving to Northern Sweden. So this is our lifeline..
Thanks. This is why we made the video. Good to hear that it has helped quite a few others that are in a similar situation.
Make sure you get a battery backup for your router, we found out that it resets if the power goes out. We have a backup generator but even just the short break between when the power goes out and the generator kicks in will reset you back to Stinky.
Thanks for posting this - our friends live in Braes (near Portree) and their internet is useless, so I'll let them know this might be an option.
Thanks for letting us know. We’re not interested in further lining anyone’s pockets… this is purely to help folk in a similar situation. We were quite anxious before we got this.
You are never Screwed we are here for you and Love you!!!!
It's so good that the Starlink worked for you. I have no mobile signal where I live in Devon, unless I hang out of my upstairs window, or walk up the lane! So at least I have a landline telephone, and the internet, but the speed is very slow as you can imagine! xxx
Well, at least you know it’s out there, should you decide to use it. It definitely changed the game for us! 🙂
Look up jurassic fibre, they are presently supplying low latency symmetrical (up and down) 950mbps connections across much of Devon.
Good video. impressive speeds, and a fast easy set up.
Cheers
When i saw Starlink. I thought. "not another review"! But UK, Isle of Skye, Was really interested to see. However 7:24 in this vid. Gets a huge like :).
