This was an exact replacement for the old one that lasted about 10 years. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx7yWIKcrbA9KMHkGSfcgxW2lsjHT6B8Sh The top of my mitigation tube by my roofline was just a 90 elbow which allowed too much debris to fall down into the fan, eventually ruining it. Without this issue, I bet it would have kept running another 10 years. When I replaced this fan, I added an extra elbow joint so the top tube now it does a 180, which should solve that problem. The radon guys around here wanted to charge me a $300 diagnostic fee, then parts/labor (probably close to $600 total). I installed this all by myself in about an hour for the cost of the fan; it would probably be even easier/faster with two people. FYI the manufacturer's warranty greatly differs depending on whether you install it yourself (1 yr warranty) or have a licensed installer do it (10 yrs).

Hello Mark, man I really want to thank you, we were using the c batteries befor which were the wrong ones,in the instructions there is no mention what battery to use,and another big mistake is that I thought they did not send a rubber washer so I stuck in one but then there was already a rubber washer but it was in the wrong place, so when I stuck my wassher on the inlet had 2 washers,so when you showed the right way to put on the rubber washer every thing worked perfectly..I was just about to send back the whole heater to the seller, when I said I should look on you tube. so thanks again.

Nice unit I know when we used to work on some older continuous flow water heaters you had to adjust the flow rate to get the correct temp. Pressure and flow are different things i would put in an adjustable flow restrictor to adjust the temp if it was a real issue. So to get more heat the water needs to slow down through the heater and for less heat speed the flow through the heater

im thinking, this is perfect for showering off grid, or in weekend houses, etc. where you might have water but heating it is a bugger. This is nice and convenient. In fact, i'd instal it in my apartment if there was need for it.
Also, i love the fact that it requires no electricity, meaning the power shortage will not affect it.
Ad a propane bottle in the corner and you're set.
If i needed to install heating and warm water somewhere on the budget, this thing and wall-mounted heaters are what i'd go for, not a big heater/boiler.

Hi... I carry water for showering in a large plastic icebox in my van. If you allow the water to circulate back into the icebox after going through the system for 5 mins. the water warms, which then ultimately raises the shower temperature.

Great job I’ve had mine for about 2 years and use it every day. Upgrading the shower head is a must. As I understand it the right nozzle is for pressure not temperature. You need to turn the right.nozzle anit clockwise to reduce pressure to increase the temperature. Counterintuitive I guess. The left gas nozzle should then be kept about half way. Batteries run out so I connect my parallel connected pack of 6x 18650 batteries through the spade connectors and keep the voltage about 3.6v. They are rechargeable and last forever. Easy hack and makes sense. As the unit doesn’t ignite properly below 3volts.

Just created my own system after seeing yours gave me the initiative. I bought a similar boiler but attached one othose cheap chinese 12v motors which works great, in fact it works too well. Trouble with these motors are they're predominantly high pressure 130+ psi which is far too high to initiate the auto back pressure shutoff should you choose to use one of those shower heads with a switch off button on it. The motor labours on and wouldnt shut off even when the output was blocked off, so who knows what trouble this might cause to the internals of the boiler? I sorted this problem by dismantling the pressure switch assembly on the pump end, and got hold of the short (very strong spring) that controls the switch off function and ground about a washers worth of metal off each end. Upon reassembly the system is far more responsive and stops instantly I turn off the shower head button cutting the flow. Thats how I did it anyway, so if helps anyone, good luck. On the off chance you grind too much off the spring, you can always add a washer in as a shim to increase cut-off pressure

Thanks for your reply! I have seen a lot of information on these heaters but never seen anybody describe the function when attached to a showerhead with an on/off valve on the handle. I plan on buying a heater like this but i do not know if it is suitable for my van since I only have around 25L of water. I must have the on/off switch to save water but I don't know if those heaters need a continous flow to work properly? Would you mind explaining a bit?

    • @Philjj61
      @Philjj61 2 роки тому

@:Sven-Tomas. Yes they need a continuous flow at around 16 psi or they cut out the burners for safety reasons, the shower head on/off button is the same as turning the tap on and off. You would use too much water just getting it hot at 6 litres per minute. I just tested mine on my tank and pressure pump system and it took 30 sec. to get warm and 1min for shower temp and if turned off will cool down quickly, .You would be better off getting shower temp water in a bucket/line and a 6 liter per minute 12v pump (eBay cheap) with handy cutoff and/or adjustable rate system.
You can use the proper pressure 12v pumps and drop the inlet into a creek/tank/neighbours pool situation, these gas heaters are fantastic and are set up to use common garden variety hose setups (pun intended). One 8.5 kilo gas bottle lasts me 6 months at home at 5 showers a week and I get them filled for AUD $15. Instant on gas hot water system...Yeh Baby.

    • @Philjj61

Winter/Summer dial cuts out 1/2 the burners on one side of the array on Summer setting. The water control on the right adjusts the rate of flow hence the temperature, to the left =hotter/slower. Get one with the LED temperature display, best idea ever and makes the adjustments much easier.

His setting in the video is correct. The right knob is a water flow restriction valve. Turning it to the right reduces the water flow so it spends more time in the heat exchanger and gets hotter.
Turned to the left is the opposite - more water flowing with less temperature rise.

Hello Mark, 2 mistakes here. First, the control on the right is there to turn down the water flow. Second, and my main point is you MUST have a shower head with an on/off switch. If you have an endless supply of mains water, as in your video, it's not too much of a problem but you would still have to get out of the shower to turn it off. You had to walk to your garden tap, leaving the hot water to run out into the bowl. Off-grid you cannot afford to waste water and gas like that so need the water to turn off immediately you have finished your shower. Did the original head not have an on/off switch, all the heaters I have seen had. A well presented video but only useful if you live in a house and misleading if you live off-grid.

Ive had one of these and the problem of providing the inlet with 50lbs of water pressure out on a campsite really sucks. You have to go out and buy a water pump that is small enough to cart around but wont burn up if no water is running through it. My water pump is never ran more than a second or two without water running through it. Why dont they address this problem. In your video you just hooked up to your house, which probably has 45 - 50 lbs, unfamiliar with pascals, of water pressure. Make another video with that piece of shit hooked up to an actual 12V system with your recommendation for a water pump which is necessary. That portable shower is just junk if you don't properly set it up in the field.

I tapped a bath half full of cold water, put the inlet hose into the water in the bath and pumped it up through the heater and back into the bath. Eventually there was pre-heated water going through the pump into the heater and back into the bath (Yes, yes, I know it's a dumb thing to do!!). End result was that the water going into the bath was too hot and triggered the thermal overheat switch. Won't do that again. Question is: is there a manual reset switch inside the cover? Help!

Thanks but you started off the video showing a pump and suggesting that was how you were going to demonstrate it. Then you plugged it into the main water. Will that pump work the shower boiler?

I just sold the one in my camper (because all the plumbing was leaking and I couldn't afford to fix it all) my mum bought the shower off me for her bathroom. Anyways, I just started it up for the first time and the flame inside seems massive! Is that normal? Or is propane too much for it, it says natural or LPG gas in the instructions but says methane gas on a sticker, I've never heard of using methane for these showers so we used propane... just worried the flame inside isn't right... it looks like a fire inside?

I used to have one of these instant water heaters in an apartment in Spain. The blue flame was huge, very powerful. It sounded like a fighter jet :D But oh boy it was fast and powerful. The flame should be blue, not yellow.

So after hooking up your water supply and turning on your gas the electric start ignites the gas? So am I assuming right that the battery system turns off and gas keeps the water hot during run times? How hot does that water get? 110 degrees?

So what the Hack? This is just a setup. i had to use a solar camping water shower head and throw the expensive one away that came with the unit. you can get and adjustable water flow shower head save fiddling with the mains pressure you be had if your using a cheap 12v pump without an accumulator. Im going to buy a cheaper second unit hook a t piece on the propane bottle and run two units together just to get some pressure and heat. a dribbling shower is not a shower at the end of the day. i have to admit out of all the cons these units save a lot of money on heating bills but at the sacrifice of a crappy shower. Given that im hooking two units together see how it goes pressure is a big deal when it comes to showers man not so much a hot bath which is out of the question with these units capped at 50 degrees time it hits the tub its cold again you need at least 75 degree to draw a hot bath by the time it cools down to 50 degree. remember body core temp is 37 degree you need at least an increment of 2 -10 degree above to have a "hot shower" Japanese know their baths they go up as far as 60 degree meat starts to fry at that temp the crazy bastards. but they have good health Low cancer rate. Cancer in the body cant survive at a certain temperature you dont want to fry your organs at that temp drinking ice water at that tem helps balance heat away from the body vitals and killing cancer throughout the rest of the body

    Hey Mark.
I got a new but used one of these water heaters a few days ago. Its a 18L-Version of it. Didnt use it until now. The former owner never used it himself. They bought it brandnew and didnt have the proper hose for it. So it was lying around for a few months. I bought it for 25€ but im kinda curious whether it will work at all.
Mine doesnt show any lights or sth when i switch it on. Just silence. Does it need to have water pressure or gas pressure in order to switch itself on? Or does it show lights or sound or whatever immediately when you switch it on? In your video it seemed that it switched itself on and ignited the gas by itself as you made the water flow through it. I dont wanna buy a hose for another 15€ if its not working anyway you know? Would be happy to hear from you.
    Regards 😊

Is yours still working? Are you still using it to these days? Or was it just a temporary gadget? Ill try mine in a few days. Here in germany our typical pressure regulators for bottled gas lets out 50 mbar. The manual said, the water heater should get a maximum of 28 mbar. So i needed to order another pressure regulator + hose prior to using it. Which pressure did you use it with?
      Regards. :)

Had the same problem with my joolca the damn shower head was absolutely useless pumping too much water sent the water damn cold out the other end for a half warm shower by the time it was at the right shower temp 47 degree it was a dribble coming out you would not call a shower despite all the high price and fanfare how great it is on the brochure. a swiss couple in the mountains having hot fast showers all plastered all over the advertising. total scam these water units. im thinking of hooking two of them up or maybe three just to get the pressure and temp at something usable

Lg Sandro
