It was my fortune to get to sit in one night with the great Lou Donaldson one fine evening when he was playing in a defunct club in Fayetteville, NC where I lived at the time. This was around 1985. I was a 16 year old tenor player looking to play with anyone great. I knew who Lou was because I had a few of his records, but I did not know he was also a superb raconteur, kidder and stage wit. So it was delightful for Lou to let me play a tune or so with him, duet with a legend. He did indeed make fun of me in a loving way.
Hi Volker. You were supporting that tour in 2000 I recall. Was it when you were in Brussels also and got your van damaged? I saw Lonnie there and later in Düsseldorf. Great concerts. --Chris

Thanks for sharing your sweet memory of your encounter with Lou.
_ Yep, he’s quite like Dizzy.
Clever at 37:15 Smith wedges something into the upper manual to hold the overdriven note. Had I not seen it I'd be lost as to how he was playing it
3:08 I think great Lou Donaldson, quotes the "Habanera" melody by Bizet's "Carmen"!
Th great Papa Lou & of course his wonderful muso's ...must catch him again when he comes our way
A very touching performance...
Ein super Quartet
38:54 WATCH!
I hope Lonnie got payed more for playing bass too.
😂
33:50 Lonnie Smith Funk
That solo is awesome !
The second item is, of course, Wee, not We.
Lou even tells us so at 9:23 "Wee, *double e."*
@@henridelagardere264 well, thats a good one 😅
It´s Volker "Wolfman" Kunschner´s Hammond C3 organ not a B3....
