Barcelona, unlike their Champions League rivals, are not privately owned and cannot attract private investment.
They are owned by their fans - known as members or socios.
What are socios? Who makes the decisions at Barcelona? Why has this type of ownership led to their current financial predicament?

Interestingly this 3 year rule for becoming a socio was removed in just the last General assembly of the club in addition to making the membership completely digital for fans across the world
They planned to do this almost decade ago during Laporta previous tenure.
So, How to become a socio?
@@kidpagronprimsank05 yep they planned many things but then Rosell and Bartomeu destroyed everything
@@rohit2571 I think through the app or the website one can become a socio.
Good way to raise money and completely destroy the link the club has to its native local area. Imagine an Indian from Bombai now has a say in Barecelona, absolute bonkers.
In Sweden we have the 51%-rule, all clubs must by law be atleast 51% fan owned so that the fans always have the final say. Most clubs are still 100% fan owned though.
That;s the way it should be
Same in the Bundesliga
I respect that very much it should be the same every where..

I think Germany has an ideal model where you get the best of both worlds - fan (majority) ownership along with all the benefits that come with being a (partly) private entity
Porto, Benfica and Sporting are also fan-owned, my father is as a matter of fact a ''sócio''
Tifo always comes up with the videos I never knew I needed

The real owner is Bayern Munich and Muller
You dont need this the owner is Thomassist Muller that plays for the best club in the world called Bayern
We need a video on how TIFO would solve the Financial issues at Barcelona

It's essentially everything Barcelona is doing.
Get rid of the high wage bill, give opportunities to young players (in hopes of cycling out older expensive players) , and make the system good enough to work without any “One” player.

As have many other clubs, in these trying times, La Masia, smart scouting and yes great coaching is the only solution. We have make stars and keep ourselves commercially relevant in the market. Players like pedri, ansu, etc. are a step in the right direction and the free agent market is another one. Inspite all that the team does need a leader who can take the ship through the storm for the next 2-3 years.

Bayern can do it. The only difference is that Bayern is a well run club, while Barcelona is incredibly mismanaged. Bayern rarely break the bank, while it is now customary at Barça to throw money away on any player whether needed or not.
bayern is a german type of fan owned. they still receive investment, barcelona is completely reliant on their own revenues.
Bayern is half owned by investors
Barcelona also was the highest grossing club for several years, and has been in the top 3-5 for a long time at this point, it's not like revenue ever was really a problem for Barça. At least not until we started offering insanely high wages and making absurd transfers every year.
Fans still control the majority of what happens at Bayern. And the point is more about the difference between the board and presidency of the two clubs, one being exceptional and the other downright inept. There is no reason why Barça couldn't be in the same or a way better position than Bayern is in right now other than mismanagement.

Could you do a video on how Real Madrid hasn't faced the same woes as Barca? They are fan owned as well but haven't faced the same financial or on-field problems

i always wondered how does real and barca ownership works, please make more videos like these, is shalke the same? what about bayern, how did red bull own rb leipzig
Red Bull essentially by pass the 50+1 rule by making Red Bull employees the the owners of the shares of the club.
Bayern runs on the 50+1 rule so in practice is fan controlled but it's owned privately. Mutual Interest Media has done a few articles on fan owned clubs
Theres a video on that...look up the german 50 plus 1 rule...about leipzig and all others is there
Are you being serious? Red Bull destroyed an amateur club and turned them in to RB Leipzig. They are a cancer upon football.
JF1908x at least they are challenging Bayern and they are managed quite well.
Thomas Müller for sure 😂😂🤣
Holding them back from what? Being unregulated giants? Might be good to take some of the focus off trophies as the only thing worth anything in football.
THIS. thank you. Of course winning is sweet but football is not just about winning. those "Super League" club fans look at trophies as an entitlement but its the highs and lows that give meaning to the game.

@@countryclubbin1016 To me, Porto beeing fan owned is more valuable than beeing a Man City european giant
Barca had a golden generation. They need to plbe patient and slowly build another. No need to always try to be at the top of europe you have to temper your expectations.
I think that's what all Barcelona fans are slowly starting to realize now. Over the last few years we've been a shadow of our former selves. Were not the club under Pep Guardiola anymore, and we have to accept that and move forward. Xavi came in, and we need to be patient and let him build his project. I truly believe the good days will we back, but it won't happen overnight.

Don’t know if I necessarily agree with the notion that being a fan-owned club will “always hold a club like Barcelona back from foreign-owned superpowers” when Bayern is a current example of how to run your finances and achieve on-field success.
Bayern only does that because they weaken other teams Every year and dissamble the competition
@@juanestebankruhsanmguel1960 Yes you're right. They won the champions league in 2020 because they bought all the other good players from the other champions league teams to weaken the competition!
@@thomas_delaney they literally buy the players from other teams in Germany and at very cheap prices, in Spain is different,
Barca and Madrid can't get players between each other
And buying players from others teams isn't cheap. Of course Bayern is gonna have better finances when they can literally buy any promising player in Germany for almost free, If Barca wanted for example Felix for Atletico it would he 160 million, same happens in the Premier League, look how much Villa asked for Grealish or how much Tottenham asked for Kane, it's easy when you can buy any player of your League by free
@@juanestebankruhsanmguel1960 Why do you think it is that Bayern can get their players for cheap and EPL/La Liga teams cannot?
@@thomas_delaney Bundesliga teams simply don't care about winning the league, they are fine with being providers for Bayern, in other leagues teams are way ambitious and want to achieve something, In Bundesliga teams are fine with Bayern winning everytime, this is the reason why no PL team has ever won more than a 3-peat and even a 3 Peat is a very hard achievement thay only Ferguson achieved. The funny thing is that then Bayern fans complain why their players get robbed in the ballond'or, well maybe just they didn't weaken the competition then maybe more people would watch the league and appreciate what Bayern players do.

Answer: not The Athletic. But it can if you join for just £1 per month!.
Who owns Barcelona? probably Thomas Müller and Bayern Munich
FCB got around 500M or 600M Euros loan from Goldman Sachs at a very good 1.98% interest. FCB will get 40M on top of the 10M paid for Griezmann, around 30M for Trincao maybe. Minus Aguero's wages (i think it was around 5M), Umtiti around 9M (18M with taxes) , Coutinho 13M (26M with taxes). That's around 100M Euros freed up to sign other players.
So far i think FCB are allowed to spend 16-20M in the winter transfer market. There's talk of swapping Dest (very bad player) for Ferran Torres + cash.
FCB want at least 30M Euros per season for stadium naming rights and more for a new shirt sponsorhip deal, there are offers on the table...
FCB, Real, Athletic, and one other club are proposing another TV rights deal, which will give clubs 2 billion Euros and is believed to be 15 times more lucrative than the CVC deal. Clubs will vote on it this month. Messi's wages were supposed to be paid by the money from CVC, but Laporta said it is a very bad deal, mortgaging the club's TV rights for the next 50 years so he refused it.
FCB members will vote on the new Espai Barca project, believed to cost around 1.5 Billion Euros, construction will be 4 years, of wich the 1st year is to be played at the Johan Cruyff stadium.

@@AmirulMokhris I blame poch
@@AmirulMokhris That's because he's in a new system. I'm a Real fan but I'd say the criticizing of Messi is unfair as players do take some time to settle in different clubs. Barca and PSG have very different ideologies. Even Thibaut and Luka had a bad year when they joined us. Then there was the HAZARDous move.
Clubs being owned by fans/members was the norm, in recent years this has changed. Glad Madrid is still fan owned. This preserves club's identity and integrity of football. Clubs like PSG and City just throwing money right-left and centre disgusts me, and I'm soooo delighted that they didn't win champions league.
So did barca and real Madrid many a times. Buying all-star team of Zidane Ronaldo Beckham etc.
Many big clubs have thrown money left n right.

@@goat9295 No indeed you are not the same, while City and PSG can be perceived as financially stable same can not be said about Real Madrid and Barcelona with their immense debt. The only difference between these clubs is that City and PSG have no history but that will soon change.

Bayern at home, mostly.
I had no idea I needed this video 😂
Wait so the fans picked Bartomeu to be president? And the fans agreed with all the nonsensical transfers the past few years?
I have the same questions on my mind. I mean how do you let somebody ruin a historic club at this level? Its like the socios didn't even care😂😂
At the time when Bartomeu was elected the first team had just won a treble so a majority of socis voted for his candidacy. There were already signs that bad decisions were beig taken at the club at all levels but a lot help from Barcelona's press (which has been proven that they were bought off) helped them win.
so, you are asking why did people voted for Bartomeu?
and the answer is 2015's treble. Barca had elections in the summer of 2015 when the team had won the treble becoming the 1st team in history to have two hence blinding the fans and Bartomeu getting elected as president

Comparing Barcelona's situation with Real Madrid's is interesting. It would be a great video to see the contrast with how Florentino is taking decisions and the stability of the club
@Ulises Leon of course, but remember that Salary Cap is based on revenue, so higher cap means the team is performing well economically speaking. And besides, Bale (Almost 30M€/y) Isco (Almost 10M€/y) and Marcelo (12M€/y) are leaving the club. Double the money because in Spain you pay doble because of taxes. So a little over a million € is going to be cut and likely spent on new arrivals. So their situation is more than solid. If you know Spanish, I recommend Ramon Álvarez de Mon's channel who does a much better job explaining all this

Catalan is the official language of FC Barcelona since 1916 so we the members are called "socis", not "socios". Also the name of the members’ general assembly is not correct as you wrote it in Spanish.
