- Triangle from Closed Guard (BJJ/grappling): hitting the triangle from the closed guard requires dealing with your partner's posture, which is why our first focus in this video is compromising the strong structure a skilled partner can create. (Omote sankaku is what most people refer to as "THE triangle", with your partner facing you).
Working with the gi in BJJ, most postural control comes out of a collar grip and a sleeve grip - the collar works like a rope around your partner's neck, drawing them in to you, while your sleeve control keeps their arm extended and separated from their body. When we work without the gi, we have to find alternative ways to manage the posture and the arm. In this case we use a collar tie (deep vs. shallow) and a wrist grip that takes care of a strong secondary arm.
Finally, we cover one of the major keys to any good triangle (or jujigatame) - connecting our hips to our partner's armpit. Learning to keep your hips up will improve almost all of your triangles and armlocks from the bottom.
This entry is not overly-complex, making it a good "go-to" technique across skill levels and under pressure. Enjoy.
