    I love this! I'm making a skirt to wear to the Barbie movie and I want something that looks polished (but also comfy so I can go to town on movie snacks lol) and this is perfect,
    Oh and I loved how you said "stretch and sew" it reminded me of "bend and snap!"

    Thank you! I’m gonna be doing this for the skirt I’m making. I did this without watching a tutorial in my early sewing days and it doesn’t look as clean or nice as what you did. I can’t wait to compare my early skirt to my new skirt after I make it!

      @SewAnastasia  7 місяців тому +1

      Unfortunately there isn't a great formula because all elastics stretch differently and we are all so differently shaped. If you have a small waist and large bum it becomes impossible to slip them on and you need a zipper at the side. I would start with measuring your back waist and take off 2 inches on the elastic and see how that works with your elastic.

I have yet to sew clothes but want to understand either way for when I'm ready. Would you say this technique is a good way to take in a loose fitting dress or pants for that matter or do you suggest darts to taper in the garments? Not sure why one is used over the other except for preferences? I appreciate the info!

    Thank you so much ! this is exactly what I have been looking for. This could also be done with 2 pieces of back elastic and a zipper between, right ? I also wondered about using thinner elastic, in channels, sewn to divide the channels and then all sewn down at the sides ( if that makes sense, would that also work ?) I have a surplus of 1/2in elastic, so I was pondering that.

    I love this I think I'm gonna use it in a dress!! I thought of a few questions:
    1- Is there ever a situation where you would use this with an already stretchy fabric like Jersey or is that overkill? (lol).
    2- I thought straight stitches snap in stretchy situations. Is there a reason why straight stitch is better than z stitch in situations like this?

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  Рік тому +3

      Good questions. You can use this method in stretchy clothes too. The straight stitches will not snap in this case because it is being stretched while it is being sewed. You could use a zig zag but it’s not necessary. The industrial machines have 3-6 needles that are straight stitch & the machine stretches the elastic out & the operator guides the waistband. I’ll find it & post it in my stories. It’s pretty cool 😎

    BEGINNING SEWER QUESTIONS!~ How did you settle on 9" of elastic? What is the process for determining how much elastic needed for just the back? because doesn't the elastic stretch just slightly less with each row of top-stitching? AND when you said the fabric for the elastic side needs to be twice the length of the elastic, I think that's that's because you know that elastic goubles in size when stretched, correct? So with stiffer elastic, you want the fabric to be the length of the elastic when fully stretched, even if it's not twice as long?

    • @SewAnastasia
      @SewAnastasia  7 місяців тому

      Let me try to explain....
      1st - It depends on the elastic you are using and how much it stretches.
      2nd - you need it to fit across the fabric you are stretching in to and to fit you as tight as you want it to.
      So basically you need to play with it a bit depending on your pattern and how tight you want it on yourself. If you have good elastic when you sew it to the fabric it shouldn't stay stretched out. It should pop back but elastic does go bad and not all elastics are made the same. I hope that helped. Happy sewing 🎀❤️🧵

    How do you determine the length of the elastic that is needed??

    • @EarthToMe001
      @EarthToMe001 14 днів тому

      About 0:30 in she says.
      Basically your elastic is there to get the waistband over hips and curves and then sit against the body. So unstretched and combined with the flat waistband should be your final waist measurement. It'll probably vary body to body, but the example here is about 9" and is not fully side seam to side seam

    I just recently sewed a full elastic waistband for a skirt, but for some reason while I was stretching the fabric and sewing along the elastic, it really stretched out the elastic too (as in now its all buckled and warped). Is there an easy fix for this?

  • @CatholicCampfire
    @CatholicCampfire 17 днів тому
