Really enjoyed your video. The instructions are easy to follow, and very motivating. I'm guessing at how you did your waistband. So this is what I did. Figure the waistband size you want finished, double that number and add 3/8 inches. You will get your desired width. Eg., for about a 2 inch finished waistband, cut length according to video by 4 inch deep. Sew a 3/8 inch fold and then fold the rest according to the video. For about a 1-1/2 inch band, cut length according to video by 3-1/2 inches deep. Sew a 3/8 inch fold and then fold the rest according to the video. Play with it using paper or old unwanted patterns & make your own waistband patterns in different widths. Hold it up against your waist and look in the mirror. Hope this helps.
you're my fav d.i.y youtuber ... you make such awesome dresses ... and really make understand how to do it all without even speaking ... you have such a magical hands 😊
Thank you SO much! Very easy to follow tutorial. I made the skirt in ankara fabric (african wax print) and have had SO many compliments already. I'm a plus size babe and I love that this pattern can be adapted to fit any size or shape. Just about to make another in some different fabric. ❤❤❤❤ Thanks again! xx
Found this so that I could see how best to reverse engineer a half elastic waist band to make it smaller. Which this did wonderfully thank you for not skipping over steps. I also learned a tip on how to stitch in the ditch and not miss the underside like I do in chunks every time 👏. So(sew) very helpful thank you 🙏
Absolutely brilliant and gorgeous. I love how simply and elegant this skirt is. And I really love that I don’t need a pattern to make it. Thanks for the video! 😊
I m a french watcher. My english is very bad so I prefer tell U in french : j adoooooooore tes vidéos. Ton travail est tellement précis, propre et net. C'est est toujours avec impatience que j attends tes nouvelles vidéos. Merci !
The attention to details turns this simple pattern into a timeless piece for all occassions. Definitley will make this! Thank you for your amazing tutorials.
Now I'm watching videos you posted before I found you:) this is my favorite kind of skirt! So thank you for including the formula to calculate all the pieces. One thing I didn't see was the (vertical) WIDTH of the waistband pieces and elastic. I do have a pocket pattern downloaded from other places on the internet (hint to others who asked about that). You have a great talent for teaching!!
I was having a hard time doing the half elastic band because our instructor never taught us. Now that I saw this, I should be using this method more often. Thanks!!
I just found this. Am impressed by your professional tips. The only helpful thing I could add is to press at every step along the way. Makes a much smoother finish. Lovely job.
Watched you for the first time. Just the perfect video that I needed for a skirt that I want to make for gifting a friend's daughter. Now got more than enough confidence to stitch that skirt after watching your video.
It is a very elegant skirt with no need for a zip! Just what I was looking for, and I like you really care for a complete good finish... Thank you so much for this video!
Thank you. I am looking for skirt with pocket and elastic band at the back. your video is very informative and the explanation is quite logical. I think it makes it easier for me to understand.
AWESOME VIDEO!!! BRAVO! Quick and to the point...I totally understood it w/o a bunch of boring talking like in other videos. I just did my elastic in the back waistband totally wrong! Why didn't I see your video first?? I was doing it the hard way. THANK YOU for posting! You are amazing. Love the skirt!
I love this sewing design and technique. It is a classic and can be made to fit many body types. Great idea. I will make a few skirts for my wardrobe too.
6:15 Looking good so far and I really like the fabric. I’ve always folded the waistband in half lengthwise and pressed it before sewing it on. I’m curious to see how it looks without doing that.
im learning so much from you! this has been incredibly helpful and clear. i can see exactly where i made all of my mistakes attempting this on my own! also man it looks so convenient to have a serger
I could never get tired of your videos!! I LOVE them they are so helpful!! you make everything look so simple and clean. seriously my favorite diy youtuber
Great detailed video. Thank you! I do have a question--how long is the elastic? I am making this skirt for my stepdaughter with a Mr Who pattern, her favorite. I think it will come out great, but I am struggling with length of elastic since she does not live with us. I can't try it on her and see.
Jazakallah khairan! Thank you for very informative teaching video. I was looking for a good way to make an elastic waistband that is not too tight, and you explained very well!
I'm loving this skirt and I'm so excited to get sewing. But what is the measurement for the height of the waistband? Is 3-4" a good choice? Folding over the waistband looks like the hardest part, so I want to get it right!
I made this skirt! I like the comfort of an elastic waistband but not the look, so this was perfect. I think my fabric was a lot stiffer than yours, so if I use the same type of fabric again next time I will not cut out such a wide rectangle so there will be less gathers. Also, I had a bit of trouble figuring out what the right and wrong side of the fabric was during the video, but that's probably because I'm a beginner and get confused easily. I like the look of a pleated skirt more than the look of a gathered skirt; do you think I could make a box pleated skirt in the front with the same gathered waist in the back? Thank you for your videos!
If it helps anyone, I made this skirt again with a linen fabric and cut the width of the fabric shorter so it had less gathers and looked less bulky on me. It looked better this time.
The only DIY UA-camr I could watch for hours and hours. Because there is no talking but only work. Love your channel.
IT HAS POCKETS

That is so pretty. Where does the adding 50cm come in on the back piece, is that just a number that seems to work well? Why 50cm?

This video is awesome! Can't wait to try it! Just don't understand the extra 50 cm in the back waistband. Is it according to the hip size?

Hi, what’s the height of the waistband?
I love the fabric, what was that ?
I made this skirt! I like the comfort of an elastic waistband but not the look, so this was perfect.

If it helps anyone, I made this skirt again with a linen fabric and cut the width of the fabric shorter so it had less gathers and looked less bulky on me. It looked better this time.
Argh, I should've read the comments before doing this... Mine ended being too bulky on me °_°''
How much did you reduce the width? Thanks!
How did yoh work out the length of the elastic band?
Thank you so much for the video! Its very nicely paced even for beginners like me!
Hi Aya. Thanks for all the great sewing tutorials. Would you make modern korean hanbok?
i love your videos. you make it so easy to follow. you're my always go to youtuber. you're my favourite. keep sewing!
love this kind of half elastic long skirt. What is the soft fabric you are using called?
Great tutorial! May I ask what's the measurement for the elastic band? I don't see it in the video...
I hate sewing. But ur videos make me want to sew again! :D i might starting to love it even
I hate the feel of elastic onto belly, both love the practicality if it being used on the back. I'm a teacher and this is a perfect skirt.
