If you don’t know where to go when you have car trouble, and you’re not familiar the best thing to do is just take it to a dealership because the way better regulated and a third party.
In Canada, repair shops don’t ask for money up front, they will call you if they find more issues and let you know the cost to repair it but you have the choice to get it done or not. I also wonder sometimes if the work you are paying for is actually getting done, I think that’s where mechanics take advantage of people because not everyone knows everything about cars, so unless you have knowledge about cars, mechanics can tell you anything and you’ll agree to have the work done.

#1 Look for a reputable shop before you have trouble. And make sure their mechanics are certified. Family or friends can help with this one. #2 NEVER let the tow company do the work, have it towed to YOUR mechanic. #3 Always ask for the old part they replaced. because now she has to use her daughters car...weren't you listening
She got scammed but who Zelle’s $1200 to a business? That’s just dumb. And that place just looks shady asf
I bought a navigator 15 years ago in california and i took it to pep boys in hollywood to get it check out and tune up so i can ride it home to south dakota i drop it off early morning then waited all morning until 5pm they didnt do nothing to my car and i was told from another mechanic that the battery in my car was smaller for the vehicle
At a mechanic shop, I paid for a new Cadillac converter instead I got a 2 inch pipe no Cadillac converter on a ChevroletAVEO I got a straight pipe for $1400 that’s crazy. No Cadillac run at all.
I have a nissan car, and I do the motor and cabin filters change by myself, and everytime I take it to the dealer for oil change they say it needs the filters, and as you know they won't change anything just charge for nothing
And the real question is why would a relatively new car need an replaced engine?
In this case she should have checked if anything done to her care, before she paid the amount, by canceling the check or credit card.
Small claims court 🧐🇺🇸
I had that happened to me with my first car. I had to contact the Florida Department of professional business regulation. I was able to get my money back.
Get a lawyer and file a high lawsuit. Report them to your State Attorneys Office.
Wow, scamming a single mom? That's just so wrong. Hope she gets helped and her money back.
Sorry to that. I don't know why it's so hard to find an honorable mechanic.
I paid a company to change my motor mounts and they pulled the bolts out and just left them there laying loosely and never put the new ones in. I couldn't believe they gave me my truck back like that.
That shop and owner both look scary. Use your judgement and reseach the shop plus get a second opinion.
#1 Look for a reputable shop before you have trouble. And make sure their mechanics are certified. Family or friends can help with this one.
#2 NEVER let the tow company do the work, have it towed to YOUR mechanic.
#3 Always ask for the old part they replaced. (if possible, try to mark the old part with a mark that only you know. Don't let them know!!)
#4 NEVER pay for repairs until after the work is done to your satisfaction.
#5 NEVER pay cash, use a payment source that you can cancel. Check or credit card.
I wouldn’t give any money to a person favoring a raccoon
I learned one thing, take your car to the Dealership. Sure it'll be expensive, but it'll be done right....
Do you work for these Stealerships? I had a 50 dollar repair job, they charged me a thousand, I found afterwards I could've done it myself. Then I looked some more and it should've been backed up by a warranty, but they kept lying and saying it wasn't covered under warranty. They've also repaired stuff that didn't fix the problem and made me pay more money to fix other parts that MIGHT fix the issue. There's a reason why they're known as the stealerships.
Dealerships aren't always honest, either.
there is probably more issues with dealerships. many investigations just like this.
Ha! I had a dealership try to do an oil change on an electric car, trust no one
@@worldtraveler3044 my dealership told me they installed an in cabin air filter for my 2008 f150. Those trucks didn't have an in cabin air filter 😂. They also don't actually diagnose anything at dealership they hire new people out of highschool and the computer just tells them what part to swap. And often times they are required to replace perfectly fine parts simply because the milage even if it doesn't fix the issue. So now your out $ for parts that you didn't need.
She couldn't have found a more shadier spot.😮
The shack of a building is painted gree, pink, and blue. That alone should have been a glaring red flag.
A Debra Noonan Halloween costume would terrify the neighborhood children.
if you pull up and the business looks like that !!! haul ass outta there. florida's a shady place, CAN'T FIND THAT ON GOOGLE.
Glad I never pay anyone for any work done wether it’s home repairs or car repairs. I do it all myself. Granted tools add up its so worth knowing you didn’t get ripped off by anyone.
I guess it depends on where you go bc i have NEVER had to pay for repairs or parts upfront... That i remember
I try to look up multiple*** shops (if im out of town or new to an area...) and look at the google reviews..how long they've been in business.. not just the price..
It happens to us all tho 🙃
The “single mother” card is what gets me. 🤣 wtf is that going to do? 💀
I wonder if the lady only needed a alternator if the engine just died, check the battery alternator charging system not change the motor
would anyone give anything to that woman?
I used to do auto technician work military and civilian. I don't trust other people with the vihicle. I do my own oil changes every 5000 mile that it recommends. The oil and toyota says it should be changed every 15000. The oil starts to breakdown at the 5000 miles. After that you will get heat friction on the cylinder wall and cause to overheat. I think this lady didn't change her oil regularly. Thats why she needed a new motor.
Dealerships are notorious for these scams 🛑
As a mechanic 2400 for a motor swap? What kinda LKQ special is that
I would always recommend a dealership, there are honest shops. Always have a great experience with VW dealership services in the mpls area. There are independent shops, but always get a written estimate. They should always recommend only what is needed, not try to oversell unnecessary services. Also look at the owners manual. 🇺🇸
Florida, where the Consumer is always wrong and the Business that screws them over, is always right.
For Honda or Toyota, you should always take your car to an Authorized dealer.
We’ll this is going viral nationally so hopefully this gets resolved immediately
Word of advice for anybody that does business with other people like this do not use zelle to do transactions because there's nothing that the banks could do for you. Always do a check and or use your credit card in case any fraud happens you can contest it and dispute the case
Her first mistake was not buying a Toyota, her second was having absolutely no intuition or primal instincts looking at those two.
I wouldn't let that shop put air in my bicycle
There is many shops like this in san jose ca.
Authority should close the shop and let them find other job
Its called a wall job. Flat rate compensation for mechanics is part of this problem, but greed plays a big part.
How does someone become a Single Mom?
I don't know what fraud unit would have to doby looking into it?? It couldn't be any clearer that she got taken. The sad part is. She's probably gonna have to wait 6 to 8 months to have some kind of judgment. And that's all she'll get is a judgment, no money...
They need to be charged and refund the customers they ripped off. Also lose their owner's business license. Never pay until the job is done.
Had this happen to me as well I am in a different state.
P.S. went to my neighbor who was a mechanic before retirement. He dealt with it
What does her being a single mom have to do with anything? If she is not a single mom does it make it ok?
Welcome to Florida
Maybe she can get her money back or a go fund me to get a motor for her car? It may not even need a motor...scammers said it needed one to rack up storage charges. Might be something else that can be fixed cheaper. Only pay after repair is done and you check it out!
A woman should be thrown in jail and should be forced to give back the money to that lady.
Never trust the small shop , if u have a problem to ur car bring it to the dealer 100% guaranteed they will fix it no problem!
She should have never given them any money. Any reputable place won't charge you until you pick up your vehicle. That should have been her first sign. There was an issue.
Whenever I have anything done muffler work, this that breaks I inspected before. I picked it up and if it's something I can't see. I tell them to raise the vehicle before I pay. And I inspect and make sure I have new parts
Just use Tires Plus, Pep Boys or Firestone.
