Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.

I bought the mower back in April when Home Depot had it on a fantastic sale. Got the self propelled for $329.99. Love this mower. Does a great job, relatively quiet, and it's so nice not having to fill it with gas or mess with oil changes and such. With the self propelled, though, you have to develop a feel for the speed you want it to go. I'm 72 with bad legs and if I turn it up full, I can't keep up. It nearly drags me through the yard. But I wouldn't have anything else. Damn good machine.

I love mine. I got it precisely because I didn't want to deal with gas, the pull to start and the annoying noise. I used it last night and yes I heard the hessitation/RPM depending on the thickness of the area to cut, it did leave some long pieces of grass here and there. I did my 1/4 acre in one charge. The lights helped me as the late afternoon came in but I had to finish so they came handy! I recommend it

I have this mower and have owned it for about 4 months now. this review is pretty accurate with a few exceptions in my experience. the bagging issue: mine actually allows for the bag to be 3/4 full to almost completely full before I have to remove bag. I would like to note that I live in Texas and when I cut, everything is dry and I've never attempted to cut when it is moist at all. Secondly is run time. I have a 1/2 acre lot and when running my ryobi the first time, it drained the battery but I was able to complete it. I was, however walking faster during my run vs the demonstration in this video. plus I did turn it off when I needed to adjust in my front yard just to conserve battery but it did cut the full 1/2 acre. After that, I tend to have 1/2 a battery left after I cut the grass but I stay on the grass every 2 to 3 weeks. the biggest challenge I had with my mower was helping a friend do a patch that was unkept (appx 20 feet by 35 feet) and had weeds primarily that were about 4 feet high. to my surprise I used 3 batteries to complete it ( I have spares charged). I did have to go up and down with the mower quite a bit and even back up and go forward but that was not an average scenario.

I've had this mower for about 3-years everything with the mower is great. I think my mower might be the model before this one the battery looks different but otherwise everything looks the same. Battery lasts about 1 hour. And I don't cut the lawn very low. After three years the battery screwed up and will not correctly charge fully. Found some tips on UA-cam about how to get the battery working but I still believe it needs a new one. Otherwise perfect mower for a small yard. I love not having to deal with gasoline. The mower is lightweight and quiet.
I also purchased the Ryobi weed wacker works with the same battery.

This review explains exactly my experience with this mower. I have a smaller yard and can get the whole thing done in about 20 minutes. I get two complete mows before charging. I agree that there is patchy cutting at times, where the mower cuts 90% or so of the grass while swatting the other 10% down for a few minutes before it pops back up. I mow frequently so I am never cutting long grass. I would like for there to be a power adjustment to amp up the speed/power so all of the grass is cut and the bag gets fuller. I like not using gas and as long as I don't focus on complete perfection this is a good mower for me.

Thanks so much. I let my mower sit over the winter which let the batteries de-charge too long (didn't see any warning abt that, my bad) so now both my batteries are 'asleep'. Various YT suggestions haven't woke them up yet. I kept the book on this mower a long time and eventually tossed it, and I couldn't identify which mower mine is until now, thanks again. just recently got one of these mowers and i liked it so much i ordered the string trimmer to go along with it there are a few things i have noticed that can be kind of a down side and they are that auto adjust blade speed it really makes cutting a lawn that is uneven in height really difficult but once it is down to an even high it works great also i noticed a "safety" fetcher where is the clips on the handle aren't clipped right the mower would cut off after a few seconds of use i didn't read the manual so that caught me off guard but not a bug deal over all i really like this mower and it is great for small yards with not many things to cut around.

I have a manufactured home with a small yard. This works great. My only notation is do not let the grass get too long or it will not mulch as well. If you have a larger yard, or let your grass grow to almost a hay field, this probably is not for you. If you a condo, a manufactured home, small lot in a city, I think this is great.

I realize 2 things: you did this video 3 years ago, and I really like Ryobi because I used to work for a company that assembles grills, wheelbarrows, toolboxes, etc. for a big box store, so I used the Ryobi one+ drivers to build those items. Granted the 40v batteries are not part of that system, but I notice a lot of reviewers are listing long battery recharge times as a con when comparing to other mowers. Most of these other mowers include a fast or rapid charger when you purchase that other brand. Ryobi has a rapid 40v charger for $79.00, that would make it a better competitor when mowing with a single battery. I guess they stay with the slower charger to keep the price down. Thanks for your reviews. I am a new subscriber.

I've had one for a year. Worked GREAT for the first year, although the bag doesn't work worth crap. The main problem is that the LED driver board hidden under the front of the mower (and exposed to dirt) got dirty and the mower will not turn on. The dead giveaway is that the LED headlights will stop working first. To fix this you need to disassemble the mower and clean the circuit board. I've cleaned mine well, but it still works or doesn't work randomly. I bypassed the stupid handle switch on the right side, but that didn't resolve the issue. My next step is to completely bypass the LED driver board, but the board seems to do something more then just LED driving as something is controlling the speed adjustment based on current draw. Still researching this. One thing, NEVER let the battery drop below 1 bar even in storage. If this happens the battery charge board will BRICK IT. You will no longer be able to charge it. The fix is to disassemble it, and bypass the circuit board, and charge it to 32V. Then it will charge normally again.
The mower WORKS great but it's built cheaply, and is subject to bricking itself. The batteries are $175 each!! Keep those stored half charge at all times to prevent them from bricking themselves.

I was skeptical but bought one today. My yard is .26 acres. The grass had about three weeks of growth when I cut it. I was really impressed with this mower. I got done on one charge, and even more surprising the 40 volt battery still had half of its charge left. It gave a nice quality cut also. Didn't push the grass down, cut it cleanly.

@steal threaded is a dolt. HIS results are for HIS yard and HIS mower is NOT false because YOUR mower in YOUR yard is different. It could be a different battery you have or the type of grass.. a lot of different reasons can explain it, but he presented HIS results. If you have something different, create a video about it, but don't claim this information is false. He even suggested that a second battery be purchased if you have the problem because he liked the mower otherwise.

I bought the Black and Decker version of this. B&D did the same thing giving you a slot to store an extra battery. They even give you two batts with their unit but it was shortsighted of them not to just add a second connection and allow you to run the two batteries in parallel giving you twice the run time.
I bought mine solely for doing my backyard which has a slope that my larger mower has trouble going up and down on. But I find the cordless mower so nice to use that I end up using it on the whole lawn, (You can't imagine how nice it is to mow the lawn with almost zero noise! I can even turn my patio speakers on and listen to music when cutting the grass!)
Another reason I bought the B&D version was because it came with batteries that are compatible with my B&D trimmer, hedge trimmer and blower and it takes all 4 of my batteries to do a lot just slightly over 1/4 acre. And to be totally realistic if the grass is really tall I end up going through 5 charged 40v batteries. (The B&D batts only take 40 minutes to charge)

Adding on to your half bag comment.. the unit does not have much in the way of a vertical suction and does not pull those weeds growing sideways into the blades. I am very confinement to say that the issue would be rectified by a bag that actually breathed. It's choking the airflow.

I have one that replaced an older Neuton Cordless Mower. So far, I love it and it fits my needs. My yard is slightly over 1/4 acre and flat. The first cut of the season did require a battery change (but the lawn was very long). My second cut was with one battery. I did buy an extra 2.5ah battery as insurance. I liked the fact that I was able to buy the mower and extra battery for less than the price of a newer Neuton Mower. (The Neuton was fine but went through 2 batteries (essentially deep cycle Lead acid batteries ) , a control board, and the handle snapped in about 7 years ownership) )

Thank you for your review. Mine is the new self propelled, came with two 5 Ah batteries, much prefer this to the gas YardMan that finally died. Runtime is about the same as my previous gas YardMan. Using the gas mower, when the front and back was finished it was all-but-out-of-gas, the 5 Ah battery is not empty. Being as I have a few 40V RYOBI tools I have spare batteries, thus for my area runtime is not an issue. Another nice thing about this mower is being able to carry an onboard spare battery, if the battery runs out switch them. With gas when you run low or out you must return to where the gas is, fill up then return to where you left off. Very much I prefer the battery lawnmower over any gas model I have owned.

i have the 16 inch Ryobi and can tell u that I need 2 batteries to mow my lawn (0.28 acres) in one stretch, and that requires me to put the first dead battery back on the charger! That said, i actually love my mower and it is really quiet (sounds like an airplane engine) so i could cut more at night if i wanted to. I believe this mower sucks at mulching as my lawn looked way worse when mulching as opposed to baggin the grass, which was way better. It's light, yet not self propelled so that kinda evens out and you do have to empty the bag often when picking up clippings. I'm happy overall with it, love the no gas, no oil, no lube, no maintenance of any kind....for me that evens out for the minor problems it has. It does fold up and I put mine in my crawlspace, though i would doubt my wife could lift it.

Good review. I've had this model for a month. Very pleased with it. I like that it doesn't vacuum all the dirt & rocks up. I used 1/2 the battery the 1st cut of the season. Now I use 1/4 of the battery for both lawns. I also wish the grass catch bag was bigger. But a great mower for the price!

Yup I agree 💯 I also love Ryobi hand tools/lawn tools but their lawnmower has much to be desired. Not a great product for me , half bag, bogged down ,hot battery that takes 3 hours to charge with a realistic 30 min run time is just not good. Great for SMALL lawns ...call me when Ryobi steps their game up to the level of an EGO. It's a tarnish on their brand to lag behind so bad in the lawnmower Dept , all I have is Ryobi tools ...but a lawnmower, not yet.

  • @alluringming

I do like the lawnmower but does hope ryobi make some better ones in future. Have better battery life, quicker recharge time for battery, more power to lawn mower, and make it go higher as sometimes grass gets thick in back yard and have to raise it up to mow over it and lower it mow second time. Mine goes only 3 and half inches high so I'm hoping my next purchase they improved on it. Also on an on and off switch for lights would be nice too

Its a little late but got the newer ryobi lawn mower that you mentioned to me a year after it came out and must say it works far better than the previous models i owned and loves it. TO this date no problems other than wondering why it wouldn't star sometimes or stalled, realizing the latches were all the way on. Ryobi certainly improves over time with the mower and the larger battery that comes with mower. I look forward to getting another ryobi lawn mower at later date if this one dies out jsut to see what improvements they have made. I seen some of newer that come out recently that look cool and made improvements but im going to wait as no need waste money on a perfect good lawn mower i already own. ^^

I like the Ryobi because it's light and quiet. I also like that the replacement batteries are cheaper. For the price of one 7.5ah Ego battery, you can buy two 6ah Ryobi batteries instead. The Ego is a more capable lawnmower, I give them that but for a smaller yard, it's an overkill. The nice thing about the Ryobi is that the 5ah is more than enough for a smaller yard but if you want to mow even more, you could always buy another battery *and they're cheaper!*
If you're not digging the 3 hour charge time which I don't, you can always opt for a quick charger. Sure, the Ego already comes with one but I got my Ryobi for 50 bucks *tool only* so I'm not complaining!

Mower works great but I have had a few issues with it. I am working on my 2nd year and I have already had to replace both front wheels. My yards are pretty normal and no reason wheels should have fallen apart. Also have an issue with motor cutting out while operating. Found out there is a shut off button located next to the right rear wheel and when the handle would lose contact with button motor would cut off. Had to place a penny between button and handle to maintain better contact between button and handle.

I've had one of these for years. It cuts and stores away nicely. The big problem I have with it is if it is hot outside. If it is hot outside (over 90 degrees) the motor overheats and it shuts down. It has to cool or hours or overnight until it cools.

My parent's had an 120v electric mower that needed some electrical work to it's handle (squeeze down handle had a short that got worse as it warmed up). So I was just going to get them a new plug in; but this one came on sale at just an outstanding price that put it back into "affordable". Sort of hoped for the best; but it has been just an outstanding mower. I hit literally a steel spike that had raised up with dry weather, or was it wet, but BIG dent in the blade. After a lot of humming and hoeing .. found out Ryobi has poor .. poor support in Canada .. but I got UA-cam out and just ordered a new blade from the place I got it and will install it come spring. Beside Ryobi needing new infrastructure in Canada (they have good distribution; but you might has well be talking to a company in China) .. or the USA deciding to handle it directly in a proper way .. this is an outstanding value and machine. I got the electric trimmer and it has made a 2 hour job take me literally .. 45 minutes or less. I would say it goes into aggressive mode for maybe 1/4 of the lawn normally and the battery is maybe down half at most in my case for the first year of use.

I’ve been cutting with this mower for about 2 months now. I love it. But I do need to buy a second battery to do my front and back yard in 1 day. The second battery is going to cost me $180 which is ridiculous (40v 6ah) but in fairness, I did pay $150 for it from a guy on fb. I love cutting at 1 inch but that takes a lot of juice on my battery. Maybe I’ll try cutting at 2 or 3 inches because at 1 inch, it feels like I’m running with the lawnmower trying to cut as much yard as I can before the battery dies lol so maybe cut at 3 inches and a second battery will work for a full yard cut in 1 day all in 1 go. Overall, no oil, no gas, starts every time in 1 push, stores easily, very light weight, (although I do wish I bought the self propelled lol) I love it. I just hate that I have to buy a second battery! *Thank you stimulus check 😂

I have the lawnmower and the weed wacker 40v luv it but yes I weed wack first then cut the grass and yes with higher grass or thicker grass I push the mower slower and go back and forth to get a gd finish job and ofcourse the 5ah battery will die but I still have life in the 4ah battery to let me finish (I have under a 1/4 acre ) but once you get use to it NO PROBLEM And I always clean mine with a lite water spray and then wipe it down with a clean rag and I also blow it dry with the leaf blower I'm lucky and i know if anybody else buys one keep in mine get the weed wacker also (extra battery then) you will soon know exactly what you have to do to end up with a very satisfying job well done and your yard will be very well groomed

I've had mine for two seasons now, there are two problems from the beginning. One it constantly shuts off and has to be restarted. There doesn't seem to be any reason for the shut downs. Two, the lights come on via a sensor when not needed and can't be turned off. This causes the battery to wear down a lot faster. The manual has no information on the sensor location, I'm going to have to dissemble it to find the sensor. I also have a 40 volt blower and two weed trimmers each came with a battery so I have spares for mowing.

@@WorkshopAddict we got the EGO. Our local home depot had the price marked down because most homes here are row homes so goody for me i was able to grab one. They had the self propelled 348 and walk 279. We don't have hills so we got 2 EGO walk the hunny got his dad too.
So we hooked his dad's up in 5 min and I tried it first. I absolutely loved it and his dad who is in his 80s (with enough energy of a guy in his 40s) also loved it.
I just finished charging and going to move in a few. Also got the trimmer and blower. I'll give my corded blower to my girlfriend. Good thing the blower trimmer combo 249.00 has another battery. Also we got the hedge trimmer 'tool only' that's being shipped.
We are all modern energy saving lawn equipment.
I'll make sure I wash it off before I store it and I saw some videos saying sharpen every 4 to 5 cuts
