the one things for your boot its called "Boot Parcel Shelf Clips" for skoda oktavia , i found them on ebay for your car, its for me like 6€ each in germany! Congrants on your new car, always a fun part to start a new project!
🎉👍 I can't wait to see all the step on the way to it's 1st rendition and tune. I ripped everything out of my car couple weeks ago with the intention of "clean up the wiring", and have been putting it off. So I will be going back to basis following your guidance. Looking forward to seeing where it ends up.
Nice new ride. In these moments I find myself sometimes rethinking life... and contemplating whether I would go with a new sound system. And many times I would get a car and think: I won't keep this one much, then the car is so good mechanically that I would keep it 2-3 years and still roll with the stock system, then get another car, which I would believe better and modify it and then when all is done, it breaks down... :) Anyways... wishing you all the best and I will keep following this space. For the old car, do not scrap it. Since you do a lot of DIY, take the audio system out, then start breaking things out and sell them on the marketplace. There are people that will need parts from your car and you can make some money back. Then the chassis and what not, scrap that or have someone that buys iron collect it. Parts that I see worth: interior seats, steering wheel. dashboard, doors, mirrors etc... :) My 2 cents. Best of luck and keep the videos coming.
"I cannot see anything else wrong with the paint" ..... and me as a detailer spitting out my tea as I hear that having noticed all the different shades of silver and the fact the bonnet overhangs the front wing lol none the less. nicer car than the vauxhall
Congradulations for the new car. By the way, before removing the factory installed sound system, you have a chance to measure it. This is quite interesting, how worse it sounds compare to hifi Alpine V12.
This literally just happened to me in June. I just got to the point where my system was finished and head gasket gone. So that meant a new car. The nice is all the things you learned in last car you don't have to do in the next so you should be able to do something very nice
Mechanics personal cars are always the best used cars you can get since they are on top of any problems that come up. To clean out the smoke smell look into an ozone generator to clean out the smell. Some detailing shops can do it, it's how dealer ships in the u.s. get rid of smoke and bad smells.
sorry for your loss, always hard as many hours of work and love went into it and it came kinda out of nowhere it seems. I think after some cleaning/deadening and well tuning this gonna be a nice project, very curious for new updates.
As a driver allergic to car payments I gladly except hand me down cars from my siblings, nephews and nieces with 200-300k miles as I will refurbish for another 100-200k miles of daily commuting Good luck & can't wait for the build videos 🚗📻🔊💨💨🙏
The beauty of VAG cars is they share a lot of parts across many platforms. So if you really want an arm rest in the center console you can probably find one from another model or even another trim level that could easily be retrofitted into Octavia. I can’t wait to see what you do with this new car with all the knowledge you learned with your other broke car.
Typical SQ guy: I bought a new car, lets make some holes in the dash 😅 Although I disagree about dash being one of the most optimal places for the midranges 8:30 . I feel a bit sorry for the insignia as I own a vauxhall astra which has an identical interior and your experiments with your installations helped me a lot. Anyway, looking forward for your new project!
Happy for you sir, for your new purchase, now let's get to the sound system install😁, just kidding, can wait for the audio build to begin, all of the best with your new project. 👍🏾
This the part of building systems I like the most. Planning the layout and sourcing the components is very satisfying. With my predilection for Honda/Acura cars with premium systems I give myself extra challenges there. Looking forward to your build.
basser pl, sale modified Skoda Octavia 3 enclosure for the subwoofer. fits perfectly in the trunk. Also, if you are keeping the HU, mine (2020) it is class SB, you need to configure the dsp for it. If you install woofers in the doors, you need to rain-protect them, AudioSystem got specific solution for it. enjoy your octavia :)
Looking forwards to watching this build! I’d look at replacing the front seats with some from a sportier model with more bolster support, and maybe replace the steering wheel also :) pretty sure vw and Audi will be plug and play but do some research first
I'm pretty sure those Insignia's were re-branded by Buick in North America as the Regal but with a 2.0L turbo petrol motor. Diesel never got as popular on this side of the pond...look forward to the new project car!
Congratulations on your new acquisition! Some people claim the Stop/Start function actually puts more strain/wear on the car, thereby reducing the engine's lifespan. You can disable it permanently very easily with the VCDS tool.
My two previous cars were a 2.0TFSI petrol and a 3.0 S4, and both had their chains stretched and needed replacing. The mechanic said he has done many cars with these issues and that the stretching occurs because of too many starts with low oil pressure/ insufficient oil at the timing chain. Now, what's really true, I don't know. I've read on forums where others have said the same thing. I disable it in my current car, mostly for the same reason as you.
Ok good. I'm am so excited for the new build. You've helped me so much. Good luck bud! Will be watching and liking!. If I could start from scratch i would gut my truck and start deadening and treatment first! Instead of rattle chasing! Lol
Sorry to hear about the Insignia's demise, Nerijis. :( I really hope this Skoda works out for you in the long term. It looks like a great platform for your audio system! As a former mechanic many years ago, here's just some food for thought: Mechanics keep the good or best cars for themselves and their family members, and sell the not so good "problem cars" that have issues or will have issues that make them not worth the trouble and expense of keeping. Secondly, I would never buy a car that is both filthy on the outside as well as inside. For one, this helps to conceal or hide all of that stuff that you discovered only after fully cleaning it. And if the owners don't bother to keep the vehicle at least decently clean inside & out, will they/have they spent the time, effort, and expense to properly maintain it mechanically? Not likely. In particular, exterior dirt & grime on the paint hides mismatching paint and blemishes from accident repairs. And as others have stated in the comments, this one looks to have a few subtle but potential indications of repairs & repainting from accidents in a few different areas. I hope that is not the case here. In The States we have several auto history recording/reporting agencies such as "Carfax" where an ownership and incident/accident/repairs/maintenance history can be purchased for the vehicle's history prior to purchasing a used car which is based on the VIN # of the vehicle. These are well worth the small expense. I'm not sure if you have anything similar in the UK. Otherwise, your best bet buying a used vehicle from a private seller is to buy from a "well off" retired couple who are simply upgrading to a newer model car and who have no younger children of driving age, which is usually a vehicle with full maintenance receipts from the original auto dealer or reputable shop. These types of cars are obviously few and far between and are difficult to find and acquire under a pressing time constraint when you need a replacement vehicle immediately as in your case, so it's a "catch 22". And these types of people generally do a "trade-in" of their "old" car with the new car dealer rather than sell their car privately, making finding a good used car that has been well maintained by a private seller even more scarce. Anyhow, I really look forward to what you do with the new stereo build!
It is extremely difficult to find a good used car.. Every can has its own problems. Sometimes you buy a nightmare money pit and sometimes you just get lucky. Maybe I am naive in trusting people but so far that didn't let me down. We will see how it will be but as always I hope for the best.
Scraping a 15 year old Toyota or Lexus at 160k miles is not something that you do. 160k miles and most toyotas are just getting broken in. My Lexus is 21 years old and has 150k miles. It has been known to go over 600k miles with just regular maintenance. It is a lifetime vehicle. Buy toyota or lexus.
Now I'm interested. Want to see what you come up with for speaker fitment as I have a VW. Everything in there looks like my Polo. :) It's ideally a Golf/Jetta in there. Mk7. Plenty looks like my Polo. My Polo 6C from 2017 is a mix of Polo 6R PQ but with mk7 MQB electrics. 2013-2014 seems to be the year that switch was being made. The hatchback looks awesome. Wish we got something similar. That dash cover is for a centre speaker. You know you might be able to get a SPDIF output from the infotainment unit? There's a guy in Russia... But best to not bother with the factory infotainment. I think they only play MP3 and WAV anyway. Note, you pull that infotainment you will probably lose functionality like reseting the tyre pressures (ABS driven) or adjustment of instrument cluster lighting. Just judging by the fact I don't see a TPS reset switch. If there's one in the glove compartment then no issues. I am busy switching my infotainment for a higher spec unit and trying to avoid linking to the Mothership in Germany to get my car to accept it. Stupid Component Protection. I want to keep to OEM unit because ... poor. Once hacked, I will replace EQ data tables in the factory unit. Can be done. These have factory EQ, but want to see what you measure. Note it might be split system with display in dash and the actual brain in the glovebox. Entry levels were single unit. If you have split unit then there's space behind the display to jam in a hidden DSP. Kicks should have no electronics, but sheet metal frame with openings. Ran my cables through there with no hassles. Space under centre console is probably packed with venting and AC and shift cables. DSG probably has more space. The side panels are bonded to the upper part. You will break tabs if you try and pry it outward. Ask me how I know. :) Part 1M6867574A should work for your boot cover holding strap hook. Can find on Aliexpress. Any issues, hit briskoda.net for info.
Bye insigna! We learned a lot of things from u! 1,6 cr engines are not bad, but nothing as reliable as a Toyota. Good luck with the new car Nerijus! It will be a nice jurney.
Hi there. German mechanic here. I don't know anything about car audio but that car is a shit-box. Also who said mechanics drive good cars? Mechanics often drive shit-boxes and they drive them cheap. Yes I have used old customer tires, that they replaced for my own car as well several times. What ran my bell was clutch replacement at under 100000 miles. Wow what was done to that car? Timing belt is ok to do after 11 years. I hope the replaced the waterpump as well. I really hope the car was cheap. Its really dirty and you said it was in good condition but the paintjob in the video looks horrible, also many scratches and even dents visible. The 1.6 TDI is really gutless but it gets the job done I guess. Pray that the injectors don't fail. Expensive but easy to replace. Otherwise the engine is pretty solid. The EGR will act up is you only drive short distances. Small rodents love the vacuum lines up at the air-intake to the turbo. Keep one set spare or some small hose connectors in the glovebox.
The front right fender looks dodgy. It looks like it has a lot of filler on it and a subpar paint job, hence the peeling bumper. Most likely the car had an accident on that corner. But lets hope its all good mechanically and good luck with a new build :)
Is it just me or does it look like front and rear bumpers, front right side wing and driver side doors are all different shades of silver compared to rest of the car? I'm pretty sure it was in an accident at some point.
The mechanic in me was gonna say a haedgasket right before you said it. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

same lmao

The first thing I noticed on the interior is that smooth dash.
Should be a good platform for a new install.
Goodbye old RAWCat ship.
Congrats on the new car, can't wait to see how you make an install inside as it is the same system more or less as my 2018 polo :)

Happy for you and your new to you car! Looking forward to the new project!
Looking forward to the build videos with this car. Nice choice.
Starting over is always exciting! Looking forward to the journey.

I can't wait for more episodes.
I really miss that car my car Audio tutorial started this car with a lot of learnings and memories❤❤❤ thank you 🎉💐💐💐
This should be a fun and interesting new build. Im here for it !
Congratulations and good luck in your new project!
I am doing a rebuild on my blazer too . Totally starting over
Really excited for the upcoming videos :) good luck 🤞
Good luck!

Indeed, they are the same cars.
Im in the same boat with my car . Transmission gone!
New beginnings 💫🔊
I’m sorry for your bad luck but it’s going to be nice to see your build from the beginning
Congratulations on your new acquisition! Some people claim the Stop/Start function actually puts more strain/wear on the car, thereby reducing the engine's lifespan. You can disable it permanently very easily with the VCDS tool.
There is a button to disable it. Still reading into it and researching to see what's best🙃
Im not sure about the protential strain, but I turn mine off because it is annoying af to me.

That Skoda is one of the best choices..and maybe you can retrofit an armrest from a model that has one..
To my man ROCKET's old whip!! GOOD RIDDANCE LOL😂
Good Luck with your New car 😉😀
Car troubles really stink. Have fun with the new setup.
You know your car is done for when you have to sit on the passenger side to drive it.🙃
Are u gonna start by doing some deadening at the beginning this time? Excited to see you do a fresh build!
Haha, yeah, that is the plan😂

well,, technically speaking its not a hatchback but a liftback >.>
Did you ever do a video talking about your in dash rta display?
Nah, it's just a cheapo analyser from aliexpress. It's good that you reminded me of it, need to pull it out😂
Looking forward with the new back to basics series, are you going to install the helix Ci5 in this?
That's the plan. I don't need a front sub with them, so that's a save. Less amps, less wiring.
Sounds good, I'm planning on getting myself a set after hearing yours (I bought the alpine dsp off you)
RIP Insignia!!
Wonder if a higher trim level or slightly later year model has a centre console with arm rest that is compatible?
Probably there is, I am researching😉

Why don't try to see if you can fit a subwoofer in the center soeaker area,
It would be difficult to service but should be interesting 😅
There is not enough cabin gain for the sub frequencies from the top.of the dash. You literally need space and distance.
@RAW-CAt
Any plans of doing a front sub facing the firewall??
People seem to have good cabin gain, any thoughts on that?
