The 14 month kiwi vines grown from store bought fruit are growing and vining like crazy so it's time to test a few different training and trimming methods. Thanks for joining me on this journey.
ahmad abbas Thank you very much! I really enjoy growing plants from seed and documenting their journey. I appreciate you tuning in and hope you like the future updates!
Even as a young child I loved to grow a nice garden. One thing I was told many years ago, was that if you looked at vine plants as if they were growing from south to north (from ground to sky) if you move the vine to east or west, then that vine will produce new vines. This worked for my sweet pea vines when placing about the garden chair many years ago, also for my grape vines. I see that this is true for your Kiwi. I am enthralled with your work. Thank you so very much.
Your vines are off to a great start!! I have kiwi vines growing . I had a huge harvest last year. Amazing production. Wow what a great sweet berry. I grew them for the pretty flowers and privacy. But I now have kiwi fruiti !! I win blue ribbons every year!! I'm loving it!!
I had no idea kiwis grew on vines, I thought they were on trees. As always learned something new again. They look great and those leaves are beautiful. Great video.
hello how are you doing fellow gardener. I am also growing a kiwi been growing it down for the past two and a half years. many times it almost died on me but I brought it back after learning what it really means to care for it. this kiwi only needs one plant I'm getting kiwis this year for the first time. your kiwi has Ties on it that are too tight I'm looking at them. you don't want to gurgle them keep up the good work enjoy your gardening
MORNING GARDENER'S SHOW. Thanks for the tips MGS. I'm new to kiwis and I figured they were a little snug but I am trying to train it upright so I planned on removing them, or loosening them, once it starts to straighten out. I think for safety measures and your confirmation, I'll loosen them up a bit tomorrow. I appreciate you watching and providing insights. Also, I love your channel!
A good way to tie plants up, is to cut strips from an old inner tube. It is waterproof, rotproof, free, it is soft but very strong and moves with the plant. Cut thin strips for small plants, and wide strips for tree ties.
Good Morning Rob Your video update on your Kiwi was great. Those vines are really growing like crazy, wow. I really can't wait to see how they turn out. Have a great day Rob deezie
Ha! "Pains me.." I know exactly what you're saying! I hate cutting plants, kinda like how I hate getting after my kids, it's neccessary. Thank you for sharing your videos.
Tinyshape The key to growing strawberries in hot climates is to have the berries ready for picking come mid-winter, not late spring or early summer as is common in more temperate zones. Keep in mind that strawberries take four - five months of growth before they are ripe for harvest. Sow any new plants late in the summer to allow time to establish during the cooler months so the berries are ripe in midwinter.
Rob Backyard Gardenerr Hi Rob...thanks! I'm in Southeast Texas. Zone 9. I think you've done a great job for it being your first time. I'm new to gardening too and am loving learning. Videos are a good learning tool. Would like to find some people close to or in the same zone. We're practically neighbors. :) So I look forward to more of your videos that I've subscribed to.
Can i graft multiple kiwis onto just one so i can avoid having a crowded garden? and also by that i can get males and females kiwis on the same plant to guarantee having fruits!
sliovic interesting idea. I've never grafted kiwis so I'm not certain but I believe you could since they can be propagated so they likely could be grafted as well. I'd recommend checking for more information prior to attempting. Let me know what you discover!
Renee Brown yeah - I'm going to have to figure out a new system for next year once winter hits and I trim then down. I may relocate a few of them to a better spot and better situation for next year. Thanks for tuning in!
You shouldn't have trimmed that longest chord, your plants going to go into shock, if you're gonna pluck 2 shoots like that, do them early, and or at least weeks apart.. That massive strand had to be linked to a great deal of roots, you never want to trim over 30% of a plant at once, especially in that stage of growth. You could have taken that long one up the pole, plenty of chord for it to vine up there.
Du Fung Thanks for the tips. I thought about it afterwards and you're right. I am trying different methods but I should definitely exercise smart methods instead of just trimming and watching. It's my first time growing kiwi and since I have so many plants I was willing to experiment a bit. I appreciate you watching and leaving thoughts. Thanks again!

Hi Rob Backyard Garden How much watering a Vine needs
Hello. I'm asking you about how to take care of strawberries. The Place Where I live is not a cold climate. So any Tips of how to take care of it?

Really hot climates? Thank you very much!
Why? Why do you not want them to wrap around? I plan on letting mine grow over a chain link fence.
Good question - I may just let them do what they want - I'm trying to experiment.
Please make a video on your attempt at propagating these kiwi cuttings
👍
Alberta Einsteinian That's the plan - assuming they work! Thanks for watching.
hi rob. just wondering where you're located? what zone? I'm thinking of trying to grow kiwi.
Catherine Fontenot hello there! I'm in North Texas, zone 8a. It's my first attempt at growing kiwis.

Rob Backyard Gardenerr bolivia (santa cruz )
Apparently you train a kiwi like you would a grape that you wanted an overhead canopy
