Think of it this way: If you go to a supermarket with a budget (CP) of $25.00 and you're asked to fill your cart with as many items as your budget will allow (level up), you won't go for the expensive meat aisle (attack stat) because you'll run out of money quickly. You'll go to the more economical aisle with all the canned goods and rice (defense and stamina stats).

That's exactly why it's so complicated If you could use the most effective pokemon and win every time it would be too easy and boring But with the ivs it's not guaranteed that you win cuz u may have good attack but bad defense and stamina/hp
I am not a big fan of being obsessive with PvP IVs. Indeed they make your pokemon bulkier, but PvP is more than than. It all comes to having a team synergy, reading opponent's teams, having a great timing, reading the game clock etc. On the other hand, having a higher attack helps you win CMP ties. That is quite helpful in some limited cups, where mirror matches might occur more often. So my suggestion would be not focusing solely on IVs, but more on the skills.
This is EXACTLY the type of explanation I was in dire need of. I've been a "gamer" for most of my life, but I just couldn't wrap my head around how the underlying stats work in this game. So I largely ignored them and just accepted the results. The past couple weeks, I've been doing more PvP and getting wrecked with teams that SHOULD be good based on the lists you find on pvpoke and such. Like, all 3 of my team were listed in the top 15 or 20 "best pokemon" for a particular league. I just couldn't figure out why I kept getting beaten so badly. This explains why that is lol. @you made 1 mistake. If a 4 star pokemon's max cp is below 1500/2500 then the 15/15/15 pokemon should be better. Can't get much bulkier than a max lvl pokemon.
Another thing to remember is that sometimes 0 and 1 star mon will have good pvp ivs. Also, you’d be surprised that sometimes something like a 1 15 8 might be better than a 0 15 15 because it’s all about getting as close to the CP threshold as possible and a 0 15 15 might go from a cp of 1468 and then jump to 1501 if you power it up again where the other iv set might be able to get to 1493 before going past the threshold. When I started really getting into pvp, I created tags for all the leagues, that way I would know why I had duplicates of certain mon hanging around.
U made the most sense to me, thank you and thank u everyone else for explaining this….im not really a fan of this system, I have so many 3 star pokes that are useless in alot of leagues minus the master league where I assume the better the Ivs the better the pokemon. Now to go thur a list of over 2thousand and see who’s worth keeping.
I only play PvP when there's a quest for an elite TM because PvP just stresses me out too much to enjoy lol. But i've learned a lot from your videos and managed to pull a 7-3 for this past event :)
Makes sense, the stress trying to get 4 wins in a row does make me hesitant to log on, though there are motivators such as stardust and rare candy to keep me up

I literrally missed you after last video haha. Have been bing watching your videos with 24 hours playing, level 40 in 12 hours, videos with fleece king (funny I dont know who he is anyway xD) and others pvps etc. I already understand it, just watching many videos on youtube, and get the app. But you explained it very nicely. Same example with galarian weezing in ultra. But bastard need lot of candy XL and dust :(
What I usually have for the tag is tag the pokemon for great/ultra league and for the name I use Pokegenie to add the letter G or U and the percent number at the end of the name (mostly do it cause some pokemon I can't remember their names)
Here’s a video idea: Managing XXL Pokémon. We don’t need more than 3 of each pokemon since we can only enter 3 showcases at a time. It how do we know which to keep? How does the showcase actually evaluate each Pokémon? Etc. Just a thought.

My only critique of the video is the lack of demonstration. It would have been cool to show the damage of both your sable eyes comparing the damage of charged attack vs the same pokemon.
The thing i still cant wrap my head around is how the pvp stats are THAT impactful. In your Sableye example, the difference is only 7 HP. I dont get how thats a worthy tradeoff for ALL of its atk points. For example, in a mirror match of two pokemon, both using the same moves at the same pace, i dont see how the slight health bonus outweighs more damage. And i really dont get how they dont balance out if one is bulky while the other is offensive. If the one with less hp is taking less damage , and the one with more hp is taking more damage, wouldnt it be more or less even? Is there any info on what exactly the atk and def stats do? Because we can easily see health being higher or lower, but you didnt mention if the attack was percentage boosted or what
kinda true. sometimes you want break points. and other times, its not a good idea cause streamers get the advantage in the (happens a lot more than you think) mirrors. if they have 2 more attack iv than you, they get the the move off 1st, letting them decide if they wanna make their videos look good by shielding or not shielding the weaker attack coming in. this is good general info but not precise. truth is do the homework before you start using any team. plenty of easy to read resources.

IDK, I started checking IVs on Pvpokes battle simulator & sometimes lower ranked (ie. rank 70, 90 or 150) pokemon with weird Ivs actually have a higher win ratio than better ranked (ie rank 3 or 9 or 20) pokemon with closer to ideal IVs & the Cp isn't always higher- seems a bit of a weird system. I think it also needs to be said that move set counts for more than IVs in some cases- I've been watching a fair bit of Pvp content & noticed a number of players using meta relevant pokemon with less-than-ideal ivs doing quite well despite this & when playing about on pvpoke, often times a rank 1 pokemonm with poor move set can easily be beaten by say a rank 50 or 150 pokemon with ideal moveset.

Remember this is not a 100% always better scenario - sometimes you have a bit lower ranked so you can win CPM and stuff - but overall in most scenarios a high iv rank will perform better
If I may clarify things in the most basic way possible, if I'm understanding this correctly, having these specific IV values only matters for Great and Ultra league yes? For Master and PVE stuff, just aim as high as possible on the IVs?
Hi Daxi! Nice video, as always. I'd love if you (or anyone really) can answer me to one question, i find confusing info on the internet about 100 iv VS Shadow 100 iv. People say shadows are better because of the 20% extra damage, but, don't they take 20% extra damage aswell? Wouldn't that impact the overall performance? 20% extra damage taken means you will faint faster, wich means less total damage output? Did that change or was i mistaken all along? In PvE if that matters. I'm quite confused, i have a lucky 100iv Machamp and a Shadow 100 IV Machamp, and i will in time max both but now i want to min-max because i onlye have 1'3 million stardust😅 Thanks a lot! Take care!

so in pvp it really depends - shadow can be better but sometimes worst cause like you stated lower defense. in PVE however reason its allways better is cause that is a flat 20% buff which is huge! even if you die a bit faster the extra damage you send out makes it worth it! Also in raids you usally die in like 1 charge move so loosing bit of defense doesn't matter - brandontan has a great video showing why its better comparing it!

It's kinda different for Legendaries and Mythicals, since we will get minimum IV of 10/10/10 from raids and rerolling it from trades is annoying XD (can't even reroll for Mythics). So i'm kinda hesitant to power up and use them because they usually low ranked in PvPIV. How do you see this, Daxi? Should we just use whatever best ranked IV we got?

I think for legendaries you can power up whatever cause they are usally so strong it doesn't matter - when it comes to legendaries in master league though I would reccomend a 15 attack iv so you can at least have a chance of winning cpm in the mirror

How important or how big is the impact of having the #1 IV stats vs the #2 or #10 or #50? Cause I have the 28 best Lanturn, Should I use my resources to power it up and give it a third move or should I continue my search for a better IV stat Lanturn.
One more downside of having low attack IV is that if you and your opponent throw charge attack at the same time higher attack IV's pokemon will get a priority. I lost so much matchups because of that. :(
It grinds my gears how non-intuitive the whole "the lowest attack = the best" rule is. (not talking about your explanation but about the way the game is structured.)
Hello everyone. Is there a way to easier get better stats of the pokemons? Any tip to catch or make trades in a way to reach some close to 0-15-15? Or is it just luck?
This entire time I’ve been transferring any pokemon that didn’t have high attack, high HP and low defense… yikes. So question, if I have a 1972CP Sylveon.. (I powered it up quite a bit) it’s 2 stars, ATK is 8 or 9 (I can’t quite tell), DEF is 11, HP is about 12 I believe, is that good? Thanks Daxi, New sub! :D
while I understand this it seems like it's just so much extra work and dedication that most people simply don't have the time to put in. I wish they would streamline the system somehow and do a better job about showing us actual stats so we don't have to use 3rd party apps
This was a confusion to me while transferring 0,1, and 2 - star Pokémon to Home. Go says they suck but when sent to home, their stats say great or amazing. It does not make sense.
Wanting to evolve a meltan into melmetal One with bad defense, mid attack and in the last bar hp/stamina gets 2200 melmetal But one with 3 star and almost perfect (like to the middle of the last bar on everything) but only gets 2000
but if you have a 1499cp for great league with 4 stars, that would still be better than a 0/15/15 1499cp right? The only reason why you want 0/15/15 is to be able to get as close to 1500 as possible for great league for example?
Last week I got the dream - a shiny ✨ shadow Sableye but I love the ruby red eyes to much & can’t bring myself to purify it 😅 Is the shadow that much worse than a purified one? I know I can’t get ‘Return’ as shadow but I also can’t return those ruby red eyes soo quite conflicted on whether or not to invest in it. 🤔
Im still kinda confused when ot comes to the megas ,likeega sablye and mega medicham ,those guys belong in great leauge ,but they will have low cp ,and peobably have no utility as megas ?and then it seems younjave the setting to showega spread off... But i have mine on on polegenie ,i sometimes have a 90 mega spread and 95 normal spread ..medichan for example ,like what spread when ot comes to these great league pokemon should i go with :/

I think its mainly so you can prepare in case the megas are allowed in pvp - for example if mega sableye is allowed in ultra league it could be a beast!

How are battles won if the Attack is so low? @poke daxi says the difference is bulk -- higher Attack means bulk. Bulk translates in my mind to a fight between a scrawny teen vs a grown man. What am I missing?
I think sableye was not the best example because yeah the best iv spread is 0/15/15, but you really need the "return" attack on him. Which means you need to get him shadow and purify him. So the best IV spread for him can not go lower than 2 attack. (Probably 2/15/15 but idk)
is pokegenie good for pvp iv checker? also why my 0 attack iv pokemon doesnt reach 1500 CP and my pokemon with 15 attack iv does reach 1500 cp??? dont we want pokemon with 1500 CP for great league?
I may have missed this in the video, but y wouldn’t it be best to have a nundo (0 0 0 iv) since u could power that up higher?

this is when ivs start to play a role - you need to find a good balance of high level & high defensive ivs - a 0/0/0 would actually fall short cause although its a high level it would have a lower defense & hp since its a low ivs - its a game of chicken kindaa
Is there a source you can find all the non master league pokemon that are best at 100% ivs? Instead of looking up each pokemon 1 by 1 on pvpivs, sounds super tedious lol
I would’ve maybe shown scrafty UL IVs or something I thjnk its 9/15/15 And thanks for the search string I tag mine GL5 E3 for example Great league rank five 3rd evolution That way if I need to hold off on evolving it’s easy to see

Unless you’re at a very high elo and against other players that optimize PvP IVs they will matter. The chances of a normal player getting a complete mirror with exact same CP and IVs. In most cases bulk matters.
Pokemon Go had event bonus like 2X catch XP, candy, stardust 2X hatch XP, candt, stardust 2X raid XP, stardust, more in game event awards after raid. Shorten egg hatch distance. Extra XP for excellent, great, nice catches. Increase time slot for incense, lure module, starpiece and lucky egg. And more. There is one bonus definitely never happen in Pokemon Go until shut down and Niantic PURPOSELY don't want to do it. This is 2X POKECOIN AWARD FOR SECURE IN GYM AFTER KICKED OUT BY OTHER PLAYER.
I just completely avoid PvP (0 Matches played, started in August 2016). You won’t ever catch me battling in the GBL regardless of rewards because it’s a part of the game I simply don’t enjoy and never will. The reason I feel so many people I know quit is because they get too invested in “meta” and “best IV’s” grinding themselves till they are burnt out and quit within 3 months of starting or returning. People want changes to route and party play? I’d like them to address the meta and PvP is for hardcore players only. Entry level PvP takes too much grinding and the overall time investment is insane. 3 “meta” Pokemon with perfect IV’s and legacy moves? No thanks. Rather just collect shiny Pokemon and fill out my Pokédex (missing only a few regionals and legendaries at this point).

remember you don't need the best pvp pokemon to start in pvp - in the low ranks anything works and it can be great to test out pokemon - also perfect pvp ivs are never nessesaary you can still win without them
So basically.. Low atk = low cp = high base def stat when upgraded (due tu more level you gain) High atk = too much cp = low base def stat when upgraded to cp cap

stat product is multiplying the stats together. Often the decimal point is moved so the number is easier to deal with

For stat product i always used pvpoke(kind of headace) . Pvpivs looks much easier to use and understand.

Also for special gligar case, you want high atttack compared to low attack. High attack one win more match up

In my team, two follow this rule. My third doesn’t, because I use the other two to tank hits, but the third deals a lot of the damage

in PVE however reason its allways better is cause that is a flat 20% buff which is huge! even if you die a bit faster the extra damage you send out makes it worth it! Also in raids you usally die in like 1 charge move so loosing bit of defense doesn't matter - brandontan has a great video showing why its better comparing it!

It's kinda different for Legendaries and Mythicals, since we will get minimum IV of 10/10/10 from raids and rerolling it from trades is annoying XD (can't even reroll for Mythics). So i'm kinda hesitant to power up and use them because they usually low ranked in PvPIV. How do you see this, Daxi? Should we just use whatever best ranked IV we got?
I think for legendaries you can power up whatever cause they are usally so strong it doesn't matter - when it comes to legendaries in master league though I would reccomend a 15 attack iv so you can at least have a chance of winning cpm in the mirror

what i am doing now is the poke i like i power up 2 different ones, one with 3 stars full iv for raids and gym and another with lowest attack for pvp
but only the ones i like
so for example i have 3 stars dragonite and 0 attack /high hp and def dragonite for pvp
How important or how big is the impact of having the #1 IV stats vs the #2 or #10 or #50? Cause I have the 28 best Lanturn, Should I use my resources to power it up and give it a third move or should I continue my search for a better IV stat Lanturn.
I feel like PvP IVs is the same principle as martial arts fighters dehydrating themselves before a match so they can get into a lower weight class.

One more downside of having low attack IV is that if you and your opponent throw charge attack at the same time higher attack IV's pokemon will get a priority. I lost so much matchups because of that. :(

Hello everyone. Is there a way to easier get better stats of the pokemons? Any tip to catch or make trades in a way to reach some close to 0-15-15? Or is it just luck?
This entire time I’ve been transferring any pokemon that didn’t have high attack, high HP and low defense… yikes.
So question, if I have a 1972CP Sylveon.. (I powered it up quite a bit) it’s 2 stars, ATK is 8 or 9 (I can’t quite tell), DEF is 11, HP is about 12 I believe, is that good?

while I understand this it seems like it's just so much extra work and dedication that most people simply don't have the time to put in. I wish they would streamline the system somehow and do a better job about showing us actual stats so we don't have to use 3rd party apps

This was a confusion to me while transferring 0,1, and 2 - star Pokémon to Home.
Go says they suck but when sent to home, their stats say great or amazing.
It does not make sense.
Wanting to evolve a meltan into melmetal
One with bad defense, mid attack and in the last bar hp/stamina gets 2200 melmetal
But one with 3 star and almost perfect (like to the middle of the last bar on everything) but only gets 2000

but if you have a 1499cp for great league with 4 stars, that would still be better than a 0/15/15 1499cp right? The only reason why you want 0/15/15 is to be able to get as close to 1500 as possible for great league for example?
Last week I got the dream - a shiny ✨ shadow Sableye but I love the ruby red eyes to much & can’t bring myself to purify it 😅 Is the shadow that much worse than a purified one? Im still kinda confused when ot comes to the megas ,likeega sablye and mega medicham ,those guys belong in great leauge ,but they will have low cp ,and peobably have no utility as megas ?and then it seems younjave the setting to showega spread off... But i have mine on on polegenie ,i sometimes have a 90 mega spread and 95 normal spread ..medichan for example ,like what spread when ot comes to these great league pokemon should i go with :/
I think its mainly so you can prepare in case the megas are allowed in pvp - for example if mega sableye is allowed in ultra league it could be a beast!

How are battles won if the Attack is so low? @poke daxi says the difference is bulk -- higher Attack means bulk. Bulk translates in my mind to a fight between a scrawny teen vs a grown man. What am I missing?

I think sableye was not the best example because yeah the best iv spread is 0/15/15, but you really need the "return" attack on him. Which means you need to get him shadow and purify him.
So the best IV spread for him can not go lower than 2 attack. (Probably 2/15/15 but idk)

You would want to purify it to get return - so it would be a 2/15/15 but still good!

this is when ivs start to play a role - you need to find a good balance of high level & high defensive ivs - a 0/0/0 would actually fall short cause although its a high level it would have a lower defense & hp since its a low ivs - its a game of chicken kindaa

So I check UL GL and LC spreads on PVP poke for the rank 1
And try to find those/something close within what I have in my inventory for the species
Pvp ivs are myth... In mirror scenario U need little more attack so u can win cmp ties against the mirror
Unless you’re at a very high elo and against other players that optimize PvP IVs they will matter. The chances of a normal player getting a complete mirror with exact same CP and IVs. In most cases bulk matters.

I just completely avoid PvP (0 Matches played, started in August 2016). You won’t ever catch me battling in the GBL regardless of rewards because it’s a part of the game I simply don’t enjoy and never will. The reason I feel so many people I know quit is because they get too invested in “meta” and “best IV’s” grinding themselves till they are burnt out and quit within 3 months of starting or returning. People want changes to route and party play? I’d like them to address the meta and PvP is for hardcore players only.
Entry level PvP takes too much grinding and the overall time investment is insane. 3 “meta” Pokemon with perfect IV’s and legacy moves? No thanks. Rather just collect shiny Pokemon and fill out my Pokédex (missing only a few regionals and legendaries at this point).
remember you don't need the best pvp pokemon to start in pvp - in the low ranks anything works and it can be great to test out pokemon - also perfect pvp ivs are never nessesaary you can still win without them

as a competitive vgc player, the concept of having a low attack stat is baffling
So basically..
Low atk = low cp = high base def stat when upgraded (due tu more level you gain)
High atk = too much cp = low base def stat when upgraded to cp cap
Exactly however 4* are perfect for specifically master league because of the no CP cap
