@@bigmel26 You don't have to walk the Mega Evolved Pokemon specifically. You can Mega Evolve any one and walk any of it's species. For Example I Mega Evolved a Blastoise and Im walking my Squirtle and still get the Mega Energy.
The method I'm using: -Set around 3 or more Master league teams (I'm doing Pokes with different CP levels) with the pokemon you want to best buddy. -Pick one and use either regular berries or golden, snapshot, scratch, training battle 3 times and change to a different buddy of the same team (so it takes less time to select) -Repeat until you want or can. I'm getting 6 hearts for each pokemon so it's 54 hearts a day (I could do more but it also can get boring). By using only regular berries I feel it's efficient enough and with 6 hearts each day it only takes 50 days (or less depending on the number of gifts you get) for best buddy.
probably not the first to mention this but you can get up to a max of 32 hearts with your buddy, granted its not entirely f2p since you need the go plus+. 6 hearts each from walking, feeding, and battling. 2 hearts each from playing, snapshot, visiting a new place, and following a route. Here's where it gets tricky, 2 hearts from both gifts, 2 from the sleep bonus with the go plus+, 1 from spinning a powered up pokestop, and 1 from finding a location stop. Its definitely tedious but I've done it before and oh man it looks good

Buddying is the worst addiction, I started a year and a half ago getting 6 hearts a day on 15 buddies and switching in the other 6 during the day to optimally buddy them. I wish I never started but I’m 180/200 on the platinum medal I only have about 40 days to go now and it will finally be all over

Just takes 12 days to get your best buddy. And if want to do the most at 3 hours including the walking. You can do approximately 3 to 5 in that time period.
I use a rotation system for my best buddies. I select 7 pokemon to best buddy and assign each one a day in the week. On that day, I make sure to excite that pokemon up to 22 hearts. I can typically get that done in the morning by setting a timer for every 10 mins and use the sock method with adventure syn enabled to get walking hearts. Then, I move on to the next day's pokemon, repeating the process to get 22 hearts. With the remaining 19 buddy switches, I will switch to the pokemon for the other days of the week to earn a min of 8 hearts (3 battles, 1 Pet, 1 Photo, and 3 treats). Each time you switch a buddy it can be fed a treat saving time on waiting for it to get peckish. Currently, I am doing the training battle with each buddy pokemon in order to get the trainer plat. badge, but once that is done I can simply go into the battle and give up instantly as it counts as battling and is way more time efficient. So my system looks like this Each day: 2 pokemon get 22 and 5 pokemon get 8. Each buddy earns 82 hearts a week. This always leaves me a few extra swaps a day I can use for background pokemon; usually ones that need buddy requirements to evolve.
This came up as a recommended video, very helpful. Ive been doing the background buddy method for a minute, currently best buddying a 4* Sylveon,4* Umbreon, 4* Lucky Wartortle and a lucky Cereledge
My method is to focus on Best Buddying 1 Pokemon and have 6 in the background. This takes about 20-30 minutes every night while I'm watching some UA-cam before bed (I've timed it multiple times). What I do is switch to one of my background buddies, berry it, play with it, snapshot it, then do 3 battles with team leader. (You don't need to finish the battle) Then switch and repeat with the other 5 background buddies. Once this is done they should each be at 6 hearts. After this I go back through each of my background buddies 1 by 1 and feed them again to get the 7th heart, then do one last round feeding them berries to get them the 8th heart. Once this is done I switch to my main buddy and go to sleep. Then grind as much as I want on the main buddy during the day using poffin or excitement etc.. If this is too much you can stop after the first round with each of them when they are at 6 hearts and they will become best buddies in 50 days instead of 38. Some tips I have to make it faster. All my buddies I'm working on have a tag that I made a keyboard shortcut for to find them easily. When doing the battles with the team leader I have the teams preset with my buddies so I don't have to add them in every time. This should all take 30 minutes max good luck!
I work with different pokemon at the same time and always get 6 hearts in one shot (Snapshot, 3 Nanab Berry, play, 3 battle with trainer (I exit the battle at the beginning). I use Puffin with more strategy for getting more candy and Mega Energy. When I know I will walk more, I use Puffin and I do a route so I make between 18 and 22 heart with one buddy. My best buddy is like my elit team for Raid or Master League because this pokemon need more candy, more candy XL, more power (so 1 lvl Bonus is Good) and more Mega Energy for the Mega Pokemon.
For people without time and extra money Feed, play, pic, battle ‐> swap buddy -> repeat. Then leave on a main buddy for candy, walking, and possible new Pokestop.
I am unsure whether you knew or not, but one of my friends taught me this: you can get more research tasks if you keep the AR spinning task as it won't give you more AR tasks. Thought it was useful, and if you knew this already, I'm sorry lol
I used to be able to scan pokestops for poffins, and get at least 5 a day, but it's been months since I've been able to get scan tasks.. I miss them everyday, as I love the buddy feature
If you travel 2-3 routes with your buddy you will get to excite a lot faster, battle master league, in a gym, and you can get it to excite in about 35 minutes.
You can also create teams of your background buddies for leagues and quickly battle with each 3 times a day. This can get you 6 hearts for your background buddies instead of just 3. Takes an extra minute but you can buddy your background buddies in just 50 days instead of 100
I'm at 150 best buddies and love them all. I do wish though that there were better perks to getting them to that level. Like half walking distance for candy/XL once best buddy
if you're doing multiple buddies, you can tag them or you can put a symbol at the start of their name (i use /) and sort by name. they'll be there at the top and switching buddies will be lightning fast

I do the same but with 12 mons focus on 4 am have 8 as you called background ones! it is fun it keeps me alert in the game! I am almost done as well 12 more am 200!
If you're battling a team leader, you can actually exit the battle and it will still give your buddy emotion points. It's much quicker than fully completing the battle. (I know you said this in the video but the screenshot shown earlier in the video said you had to complete the battle, so I'm just commenting this so people understand)
I just work on 1 buddy at a time. But, since Niantic banned me and some friends (not all, just some) from recieving AR tasks, I learned how to get them excited for free. I guess we were submitting low quality scans. Of course, they never told us why or warned us. We just stopped getting AR tasks last summer. Eh, let 'em keep their Poffins. :)

Im a newer player, April 1st start date of this year level 41 & candys are still important to me as i havnt had much opportunity to catch like “gible, larvitar, dratini, etc) so when i get my buddy excited i keep him in all day as im traveling for the candies so i can power up. Although global go fest helped for gible, deino, anex, dratini and saved me alot of traveling candies haha! And now this garchomp raids are saving me the 125 to evolve so i guess as time goes on ill be able to do crazier methods like these 🎉

I do the background buddies though slightly different. I have 7 buddies I cycle daily through. I tag them 'cb' and do 3 rounds of buddy after buddy. First round makes sure they get each the play, pic and feeding hearts which are 3 hearts. Then the 2nd and 3rd rounds go through them using more berries to put them at 5 hearts per day. A bit slower but it's a best buddy made in 2 months with 5 per day. If done fast, can take 20-25 minutes in a day.
We really need a feature were we can have 2 buddies on the map. It is possible because back when gimmighoul got released it could follow you like a buddy pokemon while your normal buddy pokemon could follow you to.

I have a question! what is the idea to have multiple pokes with full hearts? instead of the 4-6 fav pokemons your going to use like everytime? because, for wath I know, with the ribbon the PC increase only when you have the pokemon next to you, so the extra level doesnt apear unless you have your partenet next to you. And, for example a Sableye for Great league needs to be be lvl 51, does that mean I have to have it as my partner everytime I want to battle with t? So.... what is the idea of having a lot of pokemon full of hearts? what am I losing?(honest, ignorant question)
I use the background method with a main buddy! I keep a main buddy that I focus on and I have three or four tagged background buddies that I will get 3 to 6 hearts on occasionally. I used to have more than four background buddies, but it was confusing, too time consuming, and not fun.
With the disclaimer that you need to have Mega-Evolved that species at least once already (added it to your Mega-Dex) in order to unlock the ability to earn more Energy walking with it.
I didn’t look to see when this was posted, but if I use my buddy to clear a gym, I get a heart for each one it battles. Pokémon, I mean, not per gym. I got confused because of the adventure with evolutions. Some of those, they don’t even have to be in the battle, but to get a heart, it’s per Pokémon.
my methods as followed. I do as many full heart best buddies i can in a day, it usually is 3 for me, as i walk a lot. Then round 10pm before bed I swap between my other 15-17 buddies and do give a treat, play together, battle together, tale snap shot. It dosen't look like too much individually but it actually ends up being around 170 hearts gained a day.

I'd expect that each buddy has it's separate list of new places to visit but it does not seem to be the case. I also distinctly remember getting a heart on a buddy without spinning the pokestop.

Is there a trick to be able to send a buddy out in AR? no matter where I'm at or how big of an area I'm in, it says I need a big flat area and look around slowly and none of the leaves to spawn it in ever appear
This video is a game changer if we do this with one a buddy in the morning and one buddy in the afternoon we will have two best buddies in 20 days which means 6 in 60 days which means an average of one every 10 days that is 36 by the end of the year 🎉😊❤
I started with buddies in nov/dec 22 with 3 best buddies and have tried enough to learn some methods that works for me. I Think i have 42 best buddies now.
My suggestion is that if you are trying to farm candies for a Pokémon, don’t make them a background Buddy. What I do is have Pokémon I want to get to Best Buddies but not care for the candies of them as background buddies. Meanwhile, Pokémon I want to get candies for (like my Hundo Gardevoir) I’ll make my main buddy to farm candy
You can gain 3 easy hearts in the “battle together” category by surrendering and rematching a team rocket leader or grunt up to around 3-5 different Pokémon depending on how long they’ve been there for! Do it at your own risk as they can disappear but if you don’t care about that particular line up then it’s an easy 6 hearts each buddy you switch up! ^^V

200 Best Buddies is just a grind i cant be bothered with for Platinum its just too many, i just buddy the mons i use the most or that i just like the look of,
In my experience, I burn out after a while using these methods. I'd suggest a much slower tactic of picking 3 Pokémon that you will give a berries to or a poffin and get your min 6 or 16 hearts if you've used a poffin. One of those Pokémon, go for a walk, follow a route, find a new stop and you'll probably get a gift once you're a the required friendship level, thus earning more hearts. Then with 12-15 other Pokémon just play with them and take a snapshot. Yes, its only for 2 hearts but it's much faster and you're more likely to keep it up if it's not as time consuming.
What about the four Bonus hearts; there’s a bonus for Sleep, for getting a gift, and two other ones (folks thought it was three but they did find a fourth one)

I get my buddies excited to get some mega energy for them. Often with the primal, I wait till im at 19 km or something and then get it excited, so i have maximum result from it. Best buddies follow just from grinding the mega energy
1 battle every 30 mins. BUT, each type of battle counts. So, if you can do a rocket balloon, a trainer battle, and a gym battle, they would all count in the same half hr. As for feeding, 1st time - feed till full, feed 1 berry every 30 min to keep emotion up, but after excited only feed 1-2 berries when the meter needs refilling.
I don’t really care about best budy. I'm just interested in exciting him to get mega energy twice faster. So I focus at one at the time until I got plenty mega energy, by that time they would reach best buddy status. Since I focus on getting around 20+ heart per day if they are not yet best buddy yet. However from my experience they get excited in around one hour only. I do the following: feed buddy , screenshot buddy & excite buddy in few minutes then set a 1st 30 min timer. Battle a full gym (6 pokemon), one PVP battle, one training battle then set a training battle with Candela or Spark or Blanche. Set e second timer to 30 min. When the first timer reach 30 min then give one berry, screenshot & excite, reset 1st timer to 30 min. When second timer reach 30 min, battle a full gym, 1 Pvp & one training. Usually when this is finished the first timer has reached 30 min a second time, then I take screenshot, excite give a berry, then give more until fed. At that point the buddy is excited.
theres a way easier way to switch buddies. Click on your avatar bottom left. Then click "buddy History". You can switch to a past buddy way faster then swapping them and typing them manually.
Don’t forget that you can get free poffins for scanning pokestops. I’ve never paid for a poffin. I usually just best buddy Pokemon that a really like one at a time. I’m not in a rush to get those going

As someone with 400 best buddies, I used to use poffins a lot but then I got banned from submitting AR tasks because getting over 20 poffins a day eventually meant i submitted enough garbage AR scans that they employed the ban. So be careful. Do not scan from your car. Do not scan in low visibility conditions and don't shake the camera too much Also I expect even the best scans with a bad camera phone will get you banned. Niantic is extremely picky now.
Also to note, if a poffin is used or your buddy gets excited "naturally", the walking distance to earning candy/ mega energy is cut in half.

If my buddy is excited and it swap out, will it remain excited in the background?

I do the background buddies though slightly different. I have 7 buddies I cycle daily through. I tag them 'cb' and do 3 rounds of buddy after buddy. First round makes sure they get each the play, pic and feeding hearts which are 3 hearts. Then the 2nd and 3rd rounds go through them using more berries to put them at 5 hearts per day. A bit slower but it's a best buddy made in 2 months with 5 per day. If done fast, can take 20-25 minutes in a day.

We really need a feature were we can have 2 buddies on the map. It is possible because back when gimmighoul got released it could follow you like a buddy pokemon while your normal buddy pokemon could follow you to.

@@ssj2trunks103 Actually, it was in Pokemon GO. When Gimmighoul first got released, it would follow you and you could tap on it to see which way it pointed to more coins. Although, it was nearly always wrong.
Is it best to max CP before making them a best buddy or can you best bussy and then keep upgrading?

No, it stays till 12 am. The buddy page resets at the start of new day.

I have a question! what is the idea to have multiple pokes with full hearts? instead of the 4-6 fav pokemons your going to use like everytime?
because, for wath I know, with the ribbon the PC increase only when you have the pokemon next to you, so the extra level doesnt apear unless you have your partenet next to you.
And, for example a Sableye for Great league needs to be be lvl 51, does that mean I have to have it as my partner everytime I want to battle with t?

I use the background method with a main buddy! I keep a main buddy that I focus on and I have three or four tagged background buddies that I will get 3 to 6 hearts on occasionally. I used to have more than four background buddies, but it was confusing, too time consuming, and not fun.

With the disclaimer that you need to have Mega-Evolved that species at least once already (added it to your Mega-Dex) in order to unlock the ability to earn more Energy walking with it.
I didn’t look to see when this was posted, but if I use my buddy to clear a gym, I get a heart for each one it battles. Pokémon, I mean, not per gym. I got confused because of the adventure with evolutions. Some of those, they don’t even have to be in the battle, but to get a heart, it’s per Pokémon.

my methods as followed. I do as many full heart best buddies i can in a day, it usually is 3 for me, as i walk a lot. Then round 10pm before bed I swap between my other 15-17 buddies and do give a treat, play together, battle together, tale snap shot. It dosen't look like too much individually but it actually ends up being around 170 hearts gained a day.

I'd expect that each buddy has it's separate list of new places to visit but it does not seem to be the case. I also distinctly remember getting a heart on a buddy without spinning the pokestop.
Hey PokeDaxi, please help me out. I've been trying to get the routes every now and then on my main account but it always shows that there are no routes nearby. But when I tried with my another account all the routes were available. Why is the routes not showing on my main account. Please reply and provide me the solution. Is there a trick to be able to send a buddy out in AR? no matter where I'm at or how big of an area I'm in, it says I need a big flat area and look around slowly and none of the leaves to spawn it in ever appear
This video is a game changer if we do this with one a buddy in the morning and one buddy in the afternoon we will have two best buddies in 20 days which means 6 in 60 days which means an average of one every 10 days that is 36 by the end of the year 🎉😊❤

I'm going to use the "background buddies" method beacuse i don't know wich pokemon is the best for me but i alrery have a best buddy
I started with buddies in nov/dec 22 with 3 best buddies and have tried enough to learn some methods that works for me. I Think i have 42 best buddies now.
Doing this for the Jirachi research, though I just get 6 everyday
1 for feeding
1 for play
1 for snapshot
3 for battling the trainers
you know you can swap the buddy with a different one and then swap it back to get the feeding Heart again right? You can get 9 Hearts mininum a day.

My suggestion is that if you are trying to farm candies for a Pokémon, don’t make them a background Buddy. What I do is have Pokémon I want to get to Best Buddies but not care for the candies of them as background buddies. Meanwhile, Pokémon I want to get candies for (like my Hundo Gardevoir) I’ll make my main buddy to farm candy

You can gain 3 easy hearts in the “battle together” category by surrendering and rematching a team rocket leader or grunt up to around 3-5 different Pokémon depending on how long they’ve been there for! Do it at your own risk as they can disappear but if you don’t care about that particular line up then it’s an easy 6 hearts each buddy you switch up! ^^V

In order to get the CP boost even after they are best buddy, don't they have to be set as your buddy??

200 Best Buddies is just a grind i cant be bothered with for Platinum its just too many, i just buddy the mons i use the most or that i just like the look of,
So if you can boost it to 51 can you then trade it an the next person best buddy an level to 52 or when you trade does it lose the additional level?

In my experience, I burn out after a while using these methods. I'd suggest a much slower tactic of picking 3 Pokémon that you will give a berries to or a poffin and get your min 6 or 16 hearts if you've used a poffin. One of those Pokémon, go for a walk, follow a route, find a new stop and you'll probably get a gift once you're a the required friendship level, thus earning more hearts. Then with 12-15 other Pokémon just play with them and take a snapshot. Yes, its only for 2 hearts but it's much faster and you're more likely to keep it up if it's not as time consuming.

What about the four Bonus hearts; there’s a bonus for Sleep, for getting a gift, and two other ones (folks thought it was three but they did find a fourth one)
Yes you can acatually get up to 6 bonus hearts - great to speed up your main buddy
I've always wondered if I best buddy my pokemon at say l40 and it gets boosted to L41, can you still get it to L51 later on? Ir will it stop at L50?
You can get it to level 51! Your best buddy pokémon is always 1 level higher than it would normally be.

I get my buddies excited to get some mega energy for them. Often with the primal, I wait till im at 19 km or something and then get it excited, so i have maximum result from it. Best buddies follow just from grinding the mega energy

Every 30 minutes how many berries do you need to feed?
1 battle every 30 mins. BUT, each type of battle counts. So, if you can do a rocket balloon, a trainer battle, and a gym battle, they would all count in the same half hr. As for feeding, 1st time - feed till full, feed 1 berry every 30 min to keep emotion up, but after excited only feed 1-2 berries when the meter needs refilling.

I don’t really care about best budy. I'm just interested in exciting him to get mega energy twice faster. So I focus at one at the time until I got plenty mega energy, by that time they would reach best buddy status. Since I focus on getting around 20+ heart per day if they are not yet best buddy yet. However from my experience they get excited in around one hour only. I do the following: feed buddy , screenshot buddy & excite buddy in few minutes then set a 1st 30 min timer. Battle a full gym (6 pokemon), one PVP battle, one training battle then set a training battle with Candela or Spark or Blanche. Set e second timer to 30 min. When the first timer reach 30 min then give one berry, screenshot & excite, reset 1st timer to 30 min. When second timer reach 30 min, battle a full gym, 1 Pvp & one training. Usually when this is finished the first timer has reached 30 min a second time, then I take screenshot, excite give a berry, then give more until fed. At that point the buddy is excited.

theres a way easier way to switch buddies. Click on your avatar bottom left. Then click "buddy History". You can switch to a past buddy way faster then swapping them and typing them manually.
Don’t forget that you can get free poffins for scanning pokestops. I’ve never paid for a poffin. I usually just best buddy Pokemon that a really like one at a time. I’m not in a rush to get those going

What i like to do is get every buddy the non excited base amount of hearts before going out, then a main one im working on get it excited double the hearts,
As someone with 400 best buddies, I used to use poffins a lot but then I got banned from submitting AR tasks because getting over 20 poffins a day eventually meant i submitted enough garbage AR scans that they employed the ban. So be careful. Do not scan from your car. Do not scan in low visibility conditions and don't shake the camera too much
Also I expect even the best scans with a bad camera phone will get you banned. Niantic is extremely picky now.
