Sorry for the Audio Bias to the left ear! I re-tweaked the audio levels in premiere but can't replace the video without totally deleting this one. I will make sure to keep my eyes and ears out going forward so I don't blast your left ear off. Ty all for understanding!

Personally I don't understand the whole "make videos short" like I get some people have hard time paying attention over a long period of time.. but my personal opinion I like the longer videos. As long as what you are showing or talking about, tutorial or not... I think the time is worth it. I'd rather have a tutorial that is a hour long as long as I learn something. Or I really get to see how the artist finishes something at every step. Personally I'd like to see a video about how some who does freelance like what their day to day, and I mean start to finish on that business.
Appreciate and love the video Dave! How is the free lance work going?

i don't think it's so much that people have a problem with longer videos it's more that some videos will take FOREVER to get to what the actual video is about. I have a perfect example of this, i forgot how to do clipping masks so i looked up a video on it and there were a ton of like 10-15 min videos on it with like 5 minute intros talking about nothing and then i found a 49 second video that showed me exactly what i was looking for and nothing more than that. I know like one of the other guys said you can just click through it but still, for me its more of a pet peeve than anything

Yeah I get it’s “to each their own” my thing is just that if I’m looking through a couple tutorials on rendering and shading I go for the shorter ones cuz that’s compressed tips and info so I don’t have to feel like it was wasted time. But if it’s just playing in the background I don’t mind lol

I'm 6 minutes in and I just want to address you talking about the guilt of not constantly creating, which weights heavy on me (especially since I feel this pressure of becoming a professional asap, for various reasons). I'm really glad that you sometimes bring up topics such as this, I'd love to hear you talk more about this and other similar things that a lot of us are probably resonating with and I'd love to know how you personally deal with your artistic struggles, how you cope with them and how you manage to stay sane and not beat yourself up to death. For me, what helps me stay creative when I’m in a rut, or a mood, whatever you would like to call it, I google random things. Last time was mushrooms, not the psychedelic kind, just normal mushrooms. I ended up fascinated by “ink caps,” or “ inky caps,” depending on which part of the region/globe you’re in. So I ended drawing those and jotting down various things about them as I went along. That took up about 6 hours of research and drawing. It was kind of fun, and I even ended up buying a book about various other mushrooms in my part of the hemisphere. So, I just look up different things til something interests me.

I wasn't too interested in the sketching style of digital art but as soon as colour, shading, lighting ratios etc. start being added and that 3D-ness begins to show, I get into digital art 110%. I'm a cinematographer so going from video production to digital art feels like more of an extension of what I already do and I'm so excited to learn this amazing craft you and others have incredible talent in. I'm going to watch this full video, but I quickly jumped to the end from the beginning sketches to see your final result and I am in disbelief. My creative process has been really different during these current times. I used to be much more methodical, almost obsessively so, when it came down to sketching my pieces out, doing research, etc. I spent more time in my sketchbook than I did on canvas/paper, and it showed because I was drawing my ideas while being fearful I wouldn't be able to pull them off. My sketchbook kind of became my safe space. Now, I've been much more spontaneous, I have a more "just go for it" attitude as far as jumping right into an idea and letting it transform over the course of creating it. It feels a lot better, and I feel better creating more "finished" ideas instead of treating each painting like a research project, haha.

I watched this video on a few stages of my still early art journey and everytime i watch it (or any other video of yours) i learn even more or expand on already learned knowledge, this is such a nice feeling learning so much and then putting it all to the test and expanding the skill part , you are Epic Dave and your arts are very inspiring, stay awsome 💖⚜️

I really like it when I can see the artist's process and not some speedy painting, I also really enjoy your commentary. It add's an extra touch of calmness and it's suprisingly intresting. Keep up the good work!!

I have to agree with you that by going straight to colour this piece definitely felt more expressive with a lot of subtle colour notes. This is definitely one of my favourites of yours and thanks for sharing the process - this content really inspires and helps my development so please keep it up as long as you are also getting something out of it!

Thank you so so much for making this! Its so hard to find some extensive tutorials when you're trying to get into digital art and arent sure of how to even start the process. This really helped me a lot, thank you!

This was really interesting to watch, thank you. I prefer longer videos as it's easier to understand the process and learn from them as you have more time to talk about why you are doing things :) I struggle to put pen to paper at the minute as I feel like everything I will create will be rubbish... but watching this has given me a little nudge to tackle a project today :)

Have never seen you before so take my opinion with a grain of salt: I like this long format because you give insight into the mindset. If you were trying to teach a specific skill, I think short and to the point works. But for big picture, sort of top down thought, I like longform.

This is great, I loved seeing the process and hearing your commentary over it. I wouldn't mind a 3 hour painting to be honest. It's great to hear about the type of stuff you're working through in your head when your at each stage.

Tbh I really like this video format, like full commentary (doesn't have to be full all the time if you feel redundant) while a speedpaint of the piece your talking about is played. It's easier for me to learn from videos like this, I'm more focused and I really don't know why haha

No doubt this is a great format for sketching vid's! I love the longer versions with voice over where the artist talks us trough their process. These are the videos I actually can learn from. PLEASE MORE OF THIS!

I've been drawing starships for a while, but have very rarely drawn people, and the shading and highlights are something I'm not entirely familiar with, so tutorials like this is a godsend!
I'm not quite as good as above yet, but I look forward to future attempts!

Very nice painting and video. I recall how excited I was to discover the undo function and layers are simply the best part of working digitally! I have since almost completely stopped working digitally and gone back to traditional methods and I am enjoying creating art again! Keep going and keep showing your process! Really sweet voiceover!
