I hung a couple of carved wooden hawks over my blue berries by fishing line and it seems to keep most birds away. Swinging in the wind they do look rather realistic.

I just bought a new blueberry bush and the very morning after I bought them I looked out the window and there are the birds hopping around trying to eat them … in just hours since it was dark last night when I set them out there. I hate birds! Argh !
There's not a good solution for blueberry bushes because I tried netting and almost all the good berries are easily accessed from the outside. Any suggestions ?
Since I can't eat my berries maybe I'll try bird! ;-)

Unfortunately I tried this but the material did not appear to be 14 foot square. It was 14 foot long, but even after being stretched out on the ground for several hours in the heat with bricks holding down the sides it did not stretch enough on the sides for me to be able to gather and tie at the bottom as shown. Lots of length on two sides, inadequate length on two sides, leaving huge gaps for the little birdies to get in. Can't recommend this. Maybe if you have five or six people to help you stretch and place it.

I have blossoms on my cherry tree now and I just netted it. Should I wait?

Wait until your cherries are green before they turn red. Red is a dinner call for birds.

I'm lucky, birds here just eat seeds and bugs. I wonder if you gave the birds seed feeders if they'd still hit the fruit trees as much?

Try this on a larger tree! Notice they hold the net high and slip it over the tree. Unless you can do this, either on a ladder or from the ground you will hate the experience. The net catches on EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING and will not pull over the tree. It will also damage the tree and tear off fruit. I know from personal experience. Pehaps a jig of some sort to lift the net over the tree?

You're supposed to use bamboo sticks to lift it over the tree. Cover the tops of the sticks with epoxy 6000 or something soft to remove any sharp cutting edges.

Find safer netting than this. many gardeners here in Phoenix, AZ have found DEAD or dying, birds, lizards and beneficial non-aggressive snakes tangled. I read that tulle is safer or you can build something over tree with chicken wire. MANY MANY fox bats are dying and getting tangled in Australia.
