Thanks I have learned a lot today and will now go over my model settings and try out some of the new functions I have learned today.
This is the best video I watched on this transmitter. I got my transmitter programmed, got the servos reversed, and I'm ready to go smash $200 of micro technology into the ground! Seriously, I like your step by step approach. Thanks!

Thank you Tim!!!! I am new to RC planes, 8 weeks ago started with an E-flits Radian and an old DSX, I became really hooked on this hobby. Then I bought a new Conscendo Evolution and a DX8e. I had no clue as to how to get the plane and the DX8 working together. I just blinded them with no set up at all, and yikes it worked. I could get it in the air fly around and after 4 or so go arounds land it. But things started going badly. Finally, after a hand launch it did a huge fish hook left and creatored the grass runway and breaking the tail boom. 30 man hours later I got it back together, sort of (not). Ordered a new Conscendo. The distress and fatigue over all this was turning me off this wonderful hobby then came the programing that damn DX8. I was done, can’t do this any more but you got me over the top with this video so maybe I will get some sleep again. Tomorrow morning I’ll fly my new plane and have a good time! Thank you again. @@TimMcKay56 Tim, It has been over a year sense I made this commit. I have learned a lot about transmitters and flying, now running a NX8 for my customed Conscendo (#3, they don’t really last a long time, get old and worn out) added servo controlled flaps, installed a telemetry sensor fully inside fuselage, and custom paint job. I am very comfortable now flying and landing with ease. The really bad problem I had of destroying Conscendos was fixed one day when a veteran flyer found me picking up plane pieces and asked what happened. When I told him about the left hand fish hook noise in crashes on launch, He ask how much throttle I used I said 60% or less. He then he saved this hobby for me by saying, that’s not enough use at least 80%. Sure enough that was it now smooth and straight under control to “rotation”. this is too long if you still reading thanks.
Great video! I'll be studying that over and over to learn. A question, with RF9.5 and DX6, can I program the DX6 switches to do the same functions in both the aircraft live flying, and in the RF9.5? Would be great if they both functioned the same to save confusion at the airfield. Thanks! 👍
Hope you can help. Dx6/AR630. When I go to high rates, only one aileron increases throws. On low rates, they are both equal. New servos, no obstructions. Thanks.
Larry: I can think of a few things to try. First, doublecheck that you have selected the correct aileron set up for your model in the computer memory, and that the ailerons are for sure in the correct ports on the receiver. Next, try setting everything up in a new, vacant model in your transmitter. In other words, if you have this model in, say, model #8, find an unused model and set everything up there. Sometimes there are "artifacts" and weird items in the memory that can cause problems. Finally, check the percentage of throw for the ailerons in both high and low rates. You can do this by moving the stick to extreme right and left positions and ensure that the transmitter shows 100% of the throw. Sometimes this can get set to a lower value which will inhibit the full throw of the servo. Good luck! Tim
Basically the preflight will give just that, a preflight checklist. So when you are going out to fly ur plane, we'll assume you already have that plane chosen and bound. Turn the transmitter on at the field. If will display a checklist that you have chosen, in tje order of which you have chosen. If you come to the conclusion you are always forgetting something, you can add it to the preflight check. You will just physically check each item you add and then it will go into the regular screen after and allow you to fly. It is handy on more advanced planes for sure. Turning the fuel switch on, for instance. Maybe, checking something you were having an issue with. Ensuring the control surfaces are correct. Ensuring the low rates are on. Whatever you want really.
Very excellent video, thanks for making it. I’ve had this transmitter for years now and I still struggle with some thing. That is Flight Mode. I still can’t figure out what it is, or how to use it. The manual isn’t very clear and sometimes it appears and sometimes it doesn’t, when I’m setting up a new plane. Can anyone please explain what flight mode is?
1. When naming a new model, I delete the number that it automatically puts in front of the model name. I clear the whole line and put the manufacturer's name followed by the name of the aircraft. This allows me to go into model utilities and sort my models by manufacturer and name without having a number that makes no sense at the beginning. 2. I never turn the travel below 100% because a surface moves too far. I make sure I'm using the full length of the control horn and then move the pushrod in on the servo arm. When you decrease the travel settings, it decreases the resolution of your radio. And since the servo doesn't move as far, any slack in the linkage becomes a larger percentage of the control surface throw. This hurts the positioning accuracy of the control surface. 3. I use the flight modes with flaps. Since I use switch D for flaps, I assign it to the flight modes. Under the trim setup, you can change the trim type from "Common" to "F-Mode" for ailerons, elevator, and even rudder, if desired. This will give you separate trim memories for flaps up, takeoff flaps, and landing flaps. You'll be able to use the trim levers to trim your plane to fly straight in every flap position. 4. I use switch B for dual rates/expo. Position 0 is low rates with AS3X, position 1 is high rates with AS3X, and position 2 is high rates with SAFE mode. SAFE mode doesn't work correctly when your channels don't go from -100 to +100 percent.
Thank you for the video...i am having a little problem with my dx6e i had to replace a motor and ESC on my Panther F-9 3s system. One approach I can think of. This is from my experience with the MinimumRC BAE Hawk model kit (see my video on this). Under the Function list of the Spektrum DX6, click on Servo Setup. For Travel with the THR function, I was told by MinimumRC to set the low throttle travel to -120%. For whatever reason, this solved the throttle issue and the motor worked fine.
