I’m not thrilled with RAMIREZ pitching. I can’t see keeping him around.

Shucks, I keep forgetting to mark down these scheduled chats (was in Clint's while this was going on, lol)! Great stuff as always, Casey and Coach. Speaking of Outman, it's apparent most folks (at least the ones over in Clint's chat) are still under this silly belief that last season was some sort of anomaly for him and that we're getting the 'real' Outman this season. I agree that he's not going anywhere, mainly because even management knows they NEED what he brings defensively in CF and I keep telling these very same people that have already soured on him this one crucial fact! Offensively, he looks alright now (had an outstanding game at the plate for OKC today with a pair of hits and 3 BBs; now batting over .280 with a telling .930 OPS down there). Pages is starting to come back down to earth a bit, but we all know he's not a true long-term answer at CF for the Dodgers. Hope to see that Outman/Pages platoon sooner rather than later this season because I honestly don't think they'll need an Arozarena or a Robert, Jr. at this point. That said, LOVE the Ahmed pickup. Defensively, Dodgers not gonna miss Rojas at SS in the meantime thanks to him. Well that's my 2 cents thrown in, catch ya next time 'round!
    😉👌

Ramirez should never be allowed to pitch more than one inning. He's just terrible.

Are there any bad contracts out there to swap with Taylor. Love him but change of locations might work

Casey, what about bringing Rosario back from Tampa Bay, he can play infield and outfield

No, he would be one of the last guys I'd want back. Too one dimensional in everything he does

I think Nick Ahmed is probably around until Rojas comes off the IL. The Dodgers need a league average bat at 3B or SS to create depth behind Rojas. For context Rojas and Heyward are 106 and Pages is 97. So if the Dodgers can be playoff ready with two league average bench bats in Heyward and whomever they trade for and assuming Miggy comes right back from the flexor strain, then I think that would do alot on the position player side. Ideally I'd like to see, in the playoffs.
    C Will Smith
    1B Freeman
    2B Betts
    3B Isiah Kiner-Falefa 114 wRC+ (or other)
    SS Rojas
    LF Teo
    CF Robert Jr.
    RF Pages
    DH Ohtani
    Bench:
    INF: Lux
    OF: Heyward
    IF/OF: Taylor
    C: Barnes

This is an advanced analytics perspective, which I respect, because it's the lens you view baseball through, I like advanced analytics for the most part.
But, adding more "Boom or Bust", and then a "mid to this club adds to the inconsistencies and then muddies the waters in other areas.
Kike has worked circles around Falefa in the post season, and continues to show that he is capable of coming through clutch. He's shown to have that gene in abundance.
Kalefa has 18 Post Season At bats, 0 RBIs and and OPS of .683.
I would even take Lux, who knows this environment much better, knows what to expect, and has already dealt with the microscope this club has on it. Lux has played in the playoffs in different years with this club, so he knows what's coming.
Not a fan of Robert Jr. Either. Very talented, but he adds to the Boom or Bust, which leads to the inconsistencies that create terrible records in close games, which is heavily related to playoff success.
Either go elite with a player that fits, or stick with what you got, which are guys that understand the stakes and how to perform facing them.

@@dodgersdaily I like Lux too but I think Betts at 2B and Rojas at SS makes the most sense for October. I have confidence in Lux, the quality of the at bats are much stronger right now regardless of outcomes. He's turned a corner. At the same time I see a lot of risk in assuming that Betts is going to be a strong defender at SS coming off the broken hand. I've read some reporting that suggests scouts or analysts think Rojas is fine at 3rd but that he's out of position there. Not sure why, arm strength maybe? So it makes me think that the most natural alignment defensively for the Dodgers is Rojas at SS and Betts at 2B. This isn't shade on Lux to say this, or at least I don't mean it as that, but simply to say that adding at 3B is the cleanest way to create the best defensive alignment with the most upside on offense.

Reports from who and which Scouts, and which analysts? What experience do they have with the pressure of being on the Dodgers in the Playoffs, or winning with the Dodgers in the playoffs? Curious what evaluation criteria, data sets or info they would be using to make those evaluations.
Mookie Betts is a "Dawg", he will perform when it matters, especially at the critical positions. That "Dawg" trumps any and all advanced analytics that can be put on paper. I'll take Gavin Lux over some mid guy with 0 playoff experience, or experience with the Dodgers, especially considering the determining factor is WRC+ or some similar metric that has 0 relativity to playoff baseball.
Adding some mid guy because of a WRC+ number that suggests they're league average is an advanced analytics perspective of the situation, and advanced analytics, plus choosing mid guys over talent is the biggest reason the Dodgers keep losing.
Use your eyes, not your computer when the pressure is on the most.
So, although I like advanced analytics, those perspectives need to be thrown out the window in playoff time. Including the idea that your bench should be a big part of a playoff run.
Eddie Sutton would start 12 deep every year. By the time the NCAA Tournament rolled around, he was down to 6 1/2. Every coach I've ever been around that is worth their salt has been the same way. You develop depth to keep everyone fresh to make it through the grind of the regular season, and then keep your clubhouse happy, but, then, when the playoffs roll around, you grind it down to only your best players. The players that lose playing time don't have time to complain at that point.
But, if it is Rojas at SS, which I'm fine with, then it needs to be Kike at 3rd, not a "mid" that has no clue what he's getting into from Toronto or some other similar type place.

@@dodgersdaily I love the intelligence, passion, and experience expressed in your take on this. I respect it very much. I'll have to go back and look at the reporting on the Rojas out of position reporting but guessing it was unnamed in terms of sourcing. Agree this is dubious. I'll say this though, even now we are seeing that Rojas is vulnerable. You've been on this from day one in terms of saying that it's most important to keep him healthy enough to make it through the season and into the fall. Rojas' flexor strain is probably not the product of over work but still it just shows how thin the margin is here. If you tell me we can roll into October with Muncy at 3B and Rojas or Betts at SS and Lux at 2B, I'm all good. But I don't see that infield mix right now and in 5 days the trade deadline is here. The deadline will pass with likely Muncy, Rojas, and Betts all on the IL.
Regarding Betts at SS, I'll defer to you. I think he will be fine there in October and if he has defensive limitations then it will be out weighted by his offense. Also, Lux is a plus defender at 2B too so that's a factor.
The problem I'm trying to point out or address with the wRC+ numbers is that the bottom of the lineup is not productive. Dodgers OPS is #1 in baseball but their OPS with runners in scoring position is 16th. I don't have data to back this up but I think this is a function of the top heavy nature of the lineup. In my opinion the team needs to lengthen this lineup before October and assuming the injured guys are going to come back healthy is fine as long as there's a back up plan. The back up plan that I see right now is Taylor and Kike and the performance out of those guys has not been good. This isn't an advanced analytics thing this is just they've not been producing and it's been hundreds of plate appearances and the trade deadline is 5 days away. So the bench matters in so much as you can't do anything about it a week from now. The bench is the insurance and that's a policy that will have to play in October if the core doesn't get healthy.
I'm glad that the Dodgers have moved away from a reliance on platoons but I think other teams still employ them to great effect. If ARI makes the playoffs, I'll say this, most teams do not want to face Joc Pederson vs. their RH relievers. That guy still crushes right handed pitching. Tory Lovello will bring him off the bench in a key spot versus any opponents best RH leverage and feel pretty good about it. The Dodgers are not set up to have that kind of flexibility. Kike has no split, he's sub .600 OPS versus both hands. Kike has been better on defense than he was last year but he's worse offensively. 2023: .237/.289/.357 this year: .197/.260/.317. Arguably Cavan Biggio, (with the Dodgers) has been better at .200/.308./.267.
On the position player side, I maintain that the cleanest way for the team to improve is CF and 3B.

My apologies if my tone was too strong here, always greatly enjoy our conversations. But, the reliance on the mid level veteran & advanced analytics in short sample sizes, such as the playoffs, are my 2 biggest triggers with this organization.
