Thanks for the analysis! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
Checked the FG roster resource and Alex Freeland becomes R5 eligible in Dec' 25. So we could see him next year.... needs to push that K% back down though. Noah Miller also on the same timeline.
Yamamoto, Glasnow, Ohtani, Sasaki, Burnes, and Gonsolin/Kershaw as the 6th starter combo would be a deadly staff. We still have May as relief/longman, and Miller, Casparius, Frasso, Knack, Wrobleski all at AAA to fill in for the inevitable injuries. Kim makes the most sense at SS to me, especially if the Dodgers think his shoulder will heal or can get him on a short term deal. The defense, batting eye, contact skills, positional versatility, speed, lack of qualifying offer, and make up all at SS are perfect for the dodgers needs. Boras being his agent is a wildcard but I hope we bring him to LA. Another awesome episode, thanks again Casey.
Nice show last night. I had it on in the background while cleaning out the garage 😁. I think Crochet handled the contract extension demand in a clumsy but understandable way. Crochet who up until last year had been a reliever, had TJ and missed the entire 2022 season. He came back in 2023 but only pitched 12 ⅔ relief innings. In 2024 he converted to a starter and logged 146 innings across 32 starts. He was arbitration eligible for the first time last year but signed for just over league minimum at $800K. Although he's projected to make $2.9M this coming season, his contract is not now, and wasn't guaranteed then so to me it's easy to understand why his instinct was to protect himself. The Dodgers would have been in a good position to protect Crochet's arm but if he went to another team that was in a true dog fight to make the playoffs it's not hard to see that team just riding him to the finish line and turning the arm into hamburger if need be. Clearly, Crochet should have let his agent handle that valid concern quietly behind the scenes because he undermined the White Sox leverage and thereby sabotaged himself. I think the Dodgers would be smart to trade for Crochet and preserve some of their financial and contractual flexibility. The club would be in a position to buy out the two years of remaining arbitration eligibility and then extend Crochet for at least one additional but possibly two years. The dollars on that deal probably look like 4y / $42M ($3M, $6M, $15M, $18M). The one sticking point might be that CHW have expressed that they want a deal headlined by position player talent coming back and the Dodgers might prefer to deal from pitching prospects but I think the outline you gave last night of DePaula, Cartaya, Emil Morales, and maybe one other prospect, perhaps a close to ML ready pitcher might be enough.
Good stuff, this off season has been slow so far
Soto would be great; but wouldn't Snell or Corbin work out better?
Yes,and several others
I like the idea of Edman in center, Teoscar in left and a platoon of Pages and Outman in right.
Me Too!
Great solo show, Casey. Thank you for a well-informed episode. In terms of durability, Burnes is much better than Snell. However, I'm worried about the length of the contract Burnes might demand. Snell likely won’t ask for more than five years, which could be a better solution. That said, I’d be happy with either one of them. Tommy Edman is a keeper. I’m glad both sides are working on an extension now, and I hope it gets done soon. Even if Sasaki and either Burnes or Snell are signed, I’d still want Butane to return, along with Treinen and Teo. I’m not sure we’ll need Devin Williams, though. Let’s wait until the trade deadline to decide if an additional reliever is necessary. If Tanner Scott can be signed, I’d go for it now. It would not only strengthen our bullpen but also weaken our opponent by taking their ace reliever away. Perhaps more importantly, it means our batters won’t have to face him anymore. I don’t think there’s a strong defensive center fielder in this year’s free agent market. Therefore, Edman should move to center field, and we’ll need to sign a shortstop. In this case, Kim seems like a better fit than Adames, as he offers better roster balance with a lower strikeout rate.
Thanks William, great points all around. Tanner Scott would be interesting, I think he's gonna get 5 years or so, and that is out of the Dodgers sweet spot, IMO. Totally agree about Edman and Kim.
Casey I mostly like your insight and trust your eyes specially with prospects but why are you and the media consistently putting down sotos ability and more importantly his impact on any team?? Soto might be the best hitter in baseball from a pure hitting standpoint. Soto is a stud, he would be a cheat code with the dodgers. He would make the dodgers an all star team, and he would probably demoralize the league and fans of other teams. With that said I would skip on Soto not because I don’t think he’s good enough in fact if dodgers could afford him they should sign him. Money is not an issue. He would be just as good if not better than Ohtani as a strict DH. And with this team Ohtani has that position already. Ohtani doesn’t even play a position. He’s not great in the outfield but he’s not trash out there either. I just would like the dodgers to bring back as much of the team as possible to defend the WS. We never even saw the team at full strength. Get Glasnow healthy into the playoffs, let the young arms compete and surprise, let pages take over right Full time where he and his cannon belongs. A full year of edman, Bring back Teo and Jack and Buehler back, Don’t even think they need Adames
Not putting him down, he's a generational type of offensive player. My position on him is exactly aligned with all the points you made about the defense, the ability to spread the money around better, the wrong side of the aging curve on the back end of the contract, etc. I think the Dodgers become a better team spreading things out by getting Burnes, Teo, Treinen, Devin Williams, Kim etc...vs. putting all of our resources in his basket
@ yeah but dodgers literally print money so they can sign everyone you mentioned and still get Soto. I’m more worried about Ohtani holding up than Soto. Ohtani is not going to just stay the same and add pitching to his game. His batting specially base running will take a huge step back and there’s always the looming 2nd Tommy John that most that have one TJ get. And he’s on for 10 years. I would go as far as saying Soto would be a better value on the field as strict DH with occasional fielding than Ohtani who if he gets injured hitting / base running it will affect his pitching or if he gets injured pitching it will affect his ability to hit at the very least temporarily. He’s a huge risk as a two way player So that’s what I mean by being over critical of Soto. Soto can flat out hit and if he had the type of protection the dodgers give Ohtani, who knows the numbers he can put up. And you would not be worried of him getting injured running or pitching.
Money is not the issue of and by itself, it's the length of contract and potentially substantially over paying for basically a 1 way player that might have as many as 7 years on a 12 year deal that are on the wrong side of the aging curve It's those factors combined together that make me pause on Soto.
Soto would be a potent bat in our lineup, but he wants too much money. We could get two or three excellent players for the money soto wants. We have to get Adames to upgrade our shortstop position. We could live with Kim at short and save some money there. If we get Kim we could sign two front end pitchers like Byrnes or Freid, and still sign Sasaki on the cheap. We never have enough pitching given the injuries they suffer. . .
Good stuff John, well done on all fronts, these are great comments.
On Corbin trending down, on top of everything you mentioned, he'd be part of a 6 man rotation. That will have a positive effect on the starters.
Great point! Love the fans this place attracts!
Love your show loyal Listener
You rock Robert. Appreciate you great support
There is a Life Magazine story about the Dodgers development system with a Dodgers prospect on the cover. The story ran in 1948. That’s how much history the great Dodgers development system has.
Great stuff
Thanks for the show Casey
Let's go Dodgers! ⚾️ 🧢
NO ADAMES!!!!! NO TOP TEIR PITCHERS in free agency. ( Sans roki) Sign: Walker, Lynch, Kim and Teo/Soto. Snell if no Roki TRADE: BO , Crochet DUMP: CT3 BENCH: Barnes to 3rd Catcher Rojas to platoon & PH & injury replacement. GIVE A CHANCE TO: Outman, Rushing, Freeland, E-Rod, Kopp eventually this year. Miller or trade him. PROMOTE: DePaula, George and
agree with Chuck, you guys rock!!!
are Stone and Sheehan going to be healthy to pitch this year? We have tradeable pitchers to add a Williams if Trienen isn't back. Thoughts??
Friedman for GM of the year !!!
I 100% concur Gerald!
Kyle Finnegan for Dodgers BP ?
I want Treinen back, then Devin Williams
You guys are always the best at explaining the facts and breaking down what’s likely. I see Dodger fans always suggesting we trade our slumping prospects for Bobby Witt Jr type guys and it’s just never going to happen. I do wish the Dodgers would’ve protected Gauthier now that we nontendered Logue and Honeywell but Dodgers are pretty good at building depth. Thanks for another great show guys.
You rock Sean, thanks my man. Means a ton when you u post
Good one. Seems like a smart guy. I thought the yin-yang comment on Coyne and Trancoso was real interesting. I wonder if the Dodgers are cognizant of putting different coaching styles and voices on the same staff. It's something they would want to do but then you've got to really trust your coaching or management culture in the sense that you can get coaching voices with very different styles to get players pulling in a similar direction and not running their own agenda.
For fans that don't know these guys, they get to know them, but the goal too is too show fans how the system actually works. It's one thing for me to explain it, it's another for basically every player to explain it
The guy is going to play somewhere. Don’t know about left field. Teoscar, is his arm good enough for right field? Can he play short or center field?
Hello guys 👋,another great show ! . I read that some Mets fan's were upset that Lindor did not win over Ohtani. They claim that a DH should not win over a position player. I argued that even though Lindor had a good season, maybe even great season, but Ohtani's season was historic !!! Who is right ?
Thanks Gerald, IMO, and I'm probably Biased, but I don't think it was close, Ohtani was the clear MVP.
Austin, I agree perfection can’t be expected in trades but Dodgers win in many trades. Thanks great analysis Casey & Austin, you guys rock!
Not Austin here, but still wanted to say we greatly appreciate you Chuck
@ Thanks so much! I’m really enjoying the content and enthusiasm for the Dodgers. I’ve always been interested in the upcoming players from the farm clubs. I remember Bill Russell (I think as a 20 year old) hitting his way onto the big club in spring training games. We used to watch the Bakersfield Dodgers games when we could, a 250 mile round trip. I love the coaches stuff too when they are on with you two. Keep up the great work Casey and Austin.
Thank you, Casey and Austin, for the fantastic breakdown of the off-season needs. I would say the major weakness in our 2024 World Series championship run lies in the pitching department, and I’m confident the front office will address this issue. Hopefully, the pitcher signings this offseason will solve both short-term and long-term problems. I have faith in the front office to make the right decisions.
One way or another, they'll fix that portion at least! Even just a their 2 & 3 pitcher will work for now: Lynch, Walker Buehler, Eovaldi, Gray etc etc. It is our OF and SS we've no idea wth is gonna happen?!?!??!?! No to: Adames ( toooo many K's , bad post season, 29 old and already starting to lose a half step). Barely, but it's starting.
Thank you so much for your awesome support William. Totally agree about the pitching. Sasaki and Burnes are my targets, and I agree that the FO will get it fixed, as you say, both for the short and long terms
Thanks Casey and Austin
Thanks for your great support Craig
Ryan Ward just hit a game winning HR vs Valenzuela
Oh awesome
Fernando is still alive ???
One other comment I wanted to make is that I appreciated that Casey acknowledged that although the Dodgers won the World Series, the team was flawed in the sense that the starting pitching was weak on paper. The way it worked out was not the way they drew it up so thinking about how to address that has to be an important component of offseason planning.
Thanks Jay, Dodgera have work to do on the pitching staff, IMO
Good show tonight fellas. @AustinBru99, it was fun to watch you work through the Daulton Rushing for Garrett Crochet trade question. I see the logic that the Dodgers need to hold their elite hitting prospects close. The reason I thought it was interesting is because in some ways that position is counter posed to the notion that the Dodgers should be very reluctant and restrained in giving out longer term contracts to guys who are not super young since long onerous contracts can sink a ship. For ace caliber pitchers this year the choices seem to me to be pretty binary, the team either ponies up for a big contract or trades for Crochet or maybe a Sandy Alcantra mid season. Snell is projected to be the shortest contract with some analysts suggesting 4 years, Burnes 7 years, with Fried in the middle. Do you see Rushing as uniquely untouchable or do you feel similarly with someone like Josue De Paula? Or do you more think the Dodgers are disproportionately more productive developing ML ready pitchers. If the trade proposal is a package headlined by Rushing (plus a reasonable package) or one headlined by Bobby Miller and Jackson Ferris or Gavin Stone (plus a reasonable package) do you move the pitchers based on replenishment logic? I am genuinely curious on this and not trying to pin down your views or anything like that. I am of a mind that the Dodgers need to enter a phase where they are trading prospects and young players who have already debuted for established players who are a few years away from free agency. For me the Tommy Edman trade is a model. The Dodgers should be able to line up with teams for these types of players (solid players who are above average in some way but not stars) and they should be able to trade from mostly pitching depth to do it.
Thanks Casey
Another great interview, thanks Casey.
Was he hurt cause 9 era in rancho yikes..
Control...He's developed some great swing and miss stuff, but he has not mastered the strike zone yet. That will be the key for him. If he can lower his walks, which is something that could be said about almost all these young pitchers, he will be very good. That's going to be interesting to follow with him. The Dodgers thought enough of his potential to send him to the Arizona Fall League though, so the potential is there, just about refining at this point.
Eligah’s benevolence is incredible, I’m impressed most by how charitable he is. I’m looking forward to watching him progress and grow as a ball player. I hope he makes to the Show with the Dodgers. Great interview Casey, you are so good at these, thanks!
You rock Chuck, always appreciate your great support!
Wow, what a smart thoughtful guy, thanks.
Jake is an absolutely awesome dude, and he totally understands what makes him good.
Played with Jack is high school. Not only is he a great dude, but an incredible athlete.
Oh wow, very cool. Congrats on the State Championship at Johnston.
Is it true that Blake Shelton is your neighbor ? Lol 😄
Marvelous show today! I like it very much. Thank you Casey and Austin. Burnes may be more reliable than Snell and Kikuchi. However, what is the cost of getting him? I think five years should be the max. Anything beyond that is crazy because Shohei will be entering year 7 at that time. We will need more help, and we don't want to waste the twilight years of Shohei. I will go Butane + Kikuchi/Snell if Burnes is asking for more than five years. Money is not the issue here. It's the years.
This is some really good stuff! Jacob's a really cool dude, and it was great to see him progress throughout the season!
Great to know a little bit of Choi, sounds like a great person and fun to be around. I hope he gets his chance in Dodger Blue, who knows, with him, Jand and if they bring HS Kim the doors of Korea might open widely...
Good interview. Jacob seems like a good person with a good head on his shoulders. Well spoken. Interesting to hear about how he developed his arm slot. Also interesting about the differences in hitter skill level between A+ and AA. Fascinating discussion between the two of you about how Jacob approaches tunneling (start vs, land) and how he wants pitches to play off the FB. Such a good perspective on how he perceives and uses tools like the trackman data. You can tell he has conviction in what works for him and then at the same time he acknowledges that he loves to have the info, benefits from it, and that other guys use it differently than he does. Love to hear this and it's another, maybe more nuanced version of, the Dodgers make all the information available to guys but don't cram it down their throats.
100% These people are so smart and confident that they want to help, so will always give their opinion, one in which they have a tremendous amount of conviction behind, but they are also so confident, they don't take anything personal if you don't use it. My best friend Eddy, who played with the Cardinals forever was exactly that way when we coached together. He would tell us what we thought, but then would not care if which way we went.
@@dodgersdaily That's interesting. When people have true mastery over something they come to understand that there are many ways to skin a cat so even though they have concrete ideas, opinions, and deep knowledge they become less dogmatic and less emphatic in their ideas. They have tremendous confidence that their methods and ideas work and produce results but recognize that others do too. The Yankees minor league hitting philosophy under Dillon Lawson resulted in an extreme focus on exit velocity to the near exclusion of everything else. It was described at length by Ben Ruta who was in the Yankees system. There are some examples, in practice, of how the analytics pendulum can swing too far. The Dodgers seem far from making these kinds of mistakes.
Thanks Casey
Great show Casey and Austin and lots of active conversations in the chat and a high volume of intelligent comments in this section. I think the fundamental balancing act the Dodgers have at this point is maximizing a very unique championship window versus the risk of imploding with expensive unproductive contracts. I do not think fans should think that it is possible to keep the top spinning forever. Freddie turned 35 during the playoffs and Mookie will go into his age 32 season this coming year. While both players continue to be elite, it's easily possible we are passed their peaks and where the aging curve would suggest reduced productivity either through skill degradation or reduced durability. I think the Dodgers have to see their open window as the next 3-4 seasons. I think the team is too committed financially to allow the window to close because of a potentially albatross contract. That doesn't mean I think they should not show restraint but that they have to maximize their chances over this period. So, when evaluating the free agents I think the question becomes how does the contract fit for the next 4 years and then what does the tail look like financially after that. For example, The Athletic projects Burnes (7Y/$217M), Fried (5Y/$140M), and Snell at (4/$110M). I think that the Fried and Snell contracts fit the window better than Burnes. For Kim vs. Adames. TA projects Kim getting a pillow deal at 2/$36M coming off the shoulder and Adames 6/$150M. So here, I'm now with you guys on Kim over Adames but I'd look to sign him to 3 years $60M plus a club option. I believe the Dodgers need to resolve their SS issue and stabilize the position. For Juan Soto, I have mixed feelings. The contract would be onerous, he just finished his age 25 season with a crazy 180 wRC+ (career 158). He really does fit the description of a generational talent as a hitter. He'll finish the Dodgers championship window that I've proposed at age 29 season. Soto fits the time frame. I have two questions. First, is Soto athletic enough to transition to 1B after the Freeman contract expires in 3 seasons? Two how likely is it that Soto's contract could be moved after year 4 of his contact? Both Mike Trout and Bryce Harper's contracts would likely have been tradeable. Even now, I would imagine both NY teams would be interested in paying full freight for the rest of Bryce Harper's contract 6/$150 remaining. In a Soto free agency scenario I think it then makes sense for the Dodgers to trade for Garrett Crochet and significantly over pay if necessary.
This is high-end stuff, Jay! It leans into exactly the back-and-forth Casey and I were having, which had less to do with Corbin Burnes individually but the concept of short-term vs long-term window for contracts. Your point of maximizing the short term window without destroying the potential long-term is exactly the balance the Dodgers must take to build a dynasty while maintaining this run of sustained success. It's a very tight needle to thread, and if any organization could do it these days, it's the Dodgers. Phenomenal comments on each of the players highlighted. Each player will come with some level of risk and will either be thought to completely maximize the short term window or help the short term window without doing unnecessary damage to the long-term window. Shorter-term deals often come with less risk, and there are even baseball theories that is the only way teams should go in free agency. If the Dodgers sign a player long-term (5+ years), I'm usually only on board if the Dodgers LOVE the player they are getting and expect him to be productive to some degree on the backend of the contract. To sign one of these pitchers or Adames to a long-term deal, they must be convinced that they will not only be great in the short-term but solid on the back-end. Otherwise, you are running a great risk of severely limiting your moves as an organization, especially if you don't win it all again in the first 2-3 years. I would likely look for Kim on a two year plus club option deal. He's a solid option, but I don't think he is the greatest player. I want someone who will cover a lot of important bases (especially his defensive output in the infield), and I think there is a good chance he wants to re-enter free agency after a fully healthy season. Juan Soto is a special player. We may do a segment on a Monday show to see just how rare historically of an offensive talent he has been. It would be great if the Dodgers would get him, but I'm not fully convinced that will happen as of now. We will see though! He's one of those players you can live with his defensive limitations, especially if you surround him with other solid defenders in the outfield. If that becomes too much of a struggle, perhaps a move to 1B is discussed? Not sure where I stand on that. Appreciate your support and thoughts as always!
@@AustinBru99 Threading the needle is a great way to describe the balancing act the Dodgers need to solve. To me the first question has to be how long is the window realistically going to be open for? The second question is how much financial flexibility do the Dodgers really have and is there an upper limit to the spending? On the one hand the team has shown restraint in the past such as in 2022 before Ohtani and YY signed. The club tightened the belt in preparation to onboard those contract and while they just missed getting under the luxury tax, they showed restraint that offseason. On the other hand, the club is relatively well positioned to absorb a bad contract if required. The equivalent of a single Javier Baez contract IMO is unlikely to truly hamper the club's ability to win the division so the Dodgers should not plan in fear of dead money. On a related note Freeman remains productive through age 34 and with his contract is halfway complete, it might never take on significant water. If you decide to make the case for Soto on Monday or simply look at the historical context of his availability, I'll be interested to watch it. I think the odds of the Dodgers acquiring Soto are low but it's a good exercise to see how he fits. The Dodgers CBT (luxury tax) number last year was just under $340M per Spotrac who project the Dodgers current CBT number including arbitration raises and pre arbitration deals at $272M. With the Dodgers coming off a WS win and an Ohtani global marketing windfall, let's say the Dodgers are open to increasing payroll by 10%, that would put them in the neighborhood of $375M ($15M over the Cohen tax threshold). How much of the wish list can you accomplish with $100M AAV. If the projected wish list: ⦿ Corbin Burnes or other SP1 ($31M AAV 7y/$217M) ⦿ Teo Hernandez or Juan Soto ($23M AAV 3y/$69M) or ($47M AAV 13y/$611M) ⦿ HS Kim or Willy Adames ($18M 2y/36M)) ($25M 6y/$150M) ⦿ Devin Williams ($8.5M est Arb 3) ⦿ Rōki Sasaki < $1M * Contract estimates are per The Athletic , Tim Britton, Nov. 4 The expensive version of this wish list with Soto and Adames can be done for $105M AAV. That is pretty close to being within the hypothetical budget (ignoring the out year risk). I think the issue with this kind of an approach is there is substantially less flexibility in the future unless the team has the appetite to push over $400M annually. To me, if the Dodgers want to seriously pursue Soto they would trade for ace level SP1 production (Crochet this off season or Alcantra at the deadline or next off season). Or trade for a young or cost controlled SS or CF such as a Nico Hoerner or Laars Nootbar. I would love to see the Dodgers figure out a way to pry Nootbaar out of STL if they think he can hold down CF. He lacks the traditional profile of a corner OF and is blocked by Siani in CF who is an elite defender.
The fastball and the fastball
No i don't Juan him. Hell suck just 4 years into his 14 years. F that! Let's Mets have their new Bonilla
Oooh, you went there with the Bonilla thing. Ouch...lol!
Great stuff guys! Casey, having more talent may lend to winning even more on the margins. IMO - talented teams that really want to win are motivated to win any way they can, including the margins. I’m not sure the Whitesox won any games on the margins. My two cents. I’m for going after Soto, age and talent, got to go for it if you can and have the resources to do so.
Understood, he is an elite offensive player, but bad at everything else, including the "look at me" type of stuff and what the contract would look like. So, in an overall sense, I think the Dodgers would accumulate more talent not getting Soto, because then they get Teo, and whoever else they want in a fairly unrestrictive way. That, versus a player that signs for 11 years, making it infinitely more risky, and thus, much more difficult to get any other elite FA that would want to sign for 5 or more years. It's either him or Teo, not both, because you can't have that bad of a defensive outfield, IMO, and I would rather have Teo for 2 with a club option for 3. I think the combination of Teo, Burnes, Williams, Kim, Treinen, Sasaki adds more overall talent to the roster than Soto and any combination substantially less than the above package they could get with Soto.
@ Good points all, aging out of our big 3 is concerning, talent like Soto might not be available again for years. If Soto were to join there’s a good chance his attitude will be good seeing the attitudes of the stars already on the team that have established the culture. Regardless exciting times, I trust Friedman & Gomes plus valuing your opinion and expertise!
Great stuff here Chuck, always enjoy your communications
His best 2 pitches?
I like Devin Williams due to his stuff / repertoire being different / complementary to the other pen arms, but not as a full-time Closer. I prefer them to continue the match up scenario they used in the postseason.
I agree about high leverage arms being used in a flexible manner as you speak, but I think they already have those guys on roster. Evan Phillips, Treinen (Need to resign), Kopech, Vesia etc. all are perfect for that flex role So, I think having a closer on top of those guys, like Treinen was used against the Yankees as the closer, slams the door shut on the bullpen this year.
@@dodgersdaily I guess my point is that I don't want a guy who has to be the 9th inning guy or gets disgruntled about it, ala Jansen near the end of his Dodger tenure. If he's good getting maybe 20-25 saves, rather than 40+, I'm good. His post season meltdowns give me a bit of a pause, especially if his rigid about when / how he's used.
#1 Need Question Ace with Post Season bonefides That IMO limits it to Burnes, Snell, and possibly Buehler. With their SP depth, an inning eater would be nice, but not as important, especially with a 6-man rotation. Ohtani Yamamoto Glasnow Kershaw * Gonsolin May Look at their possible AAA rotation / MLB backend SP options ... Bobby Miller Landon Knack Justin Wrobleski Nick Frasso Ben Casparius Jackson Ferris That doesn't even acknowledge the possibility of Sasaki. * Will re-sign in ST
Even still, that doesn't even include guys like Duran, Choi, etc... if they're still in the organization, the IL guys coming back late in 2025 or early 2026 in Stone, Sheehan, Ryan, or Hurt, or lower level guys who can harness their stuff / break out in 2024 like Burns, Martin, Heubeck, Karros, etc... The system is loaded.
Agreed the system is loaded. I think Jared Karros, Hyun-Il Choi, and Carlos Duran are ready, and Ferris is a very hot name right now, but is still very new to AA, so I would put all those guys over him at the moment in terms of pecking order. Of course, if he keeps killing AA, and then proves it again at AAA, then that can change. Ohtani, Yamamoto, Glasnow, Kershaw, Gonsolin, and May have too many question marks, and leaves too many possibilities of too many bullpen games, IMO. Innings eater per start is a huge deal because it keeps you out of your bullpen longer on a day-to-day basis, so don't necessarily disagree on an overall premise, but definitely disagree on a day-to-day basis in terms of "inning eater". Sasaki needs to be extra because no one is going to know how "plug and play" he actually is going to be for a team that is as "Win Now" as the Dodgers are, so he adds even more uncertainty, IMO. Corbin Burnes checks every box. Elite pitcher, great playoff success, innings eater, from California, it all fits. I think he needs to be the #1 target.
@dodgersdaily With a 6-man rotation, I guess we need to qualify what we mean by "innings eater". Based on the old school definition of a 32 GS / 200 IP guy, I think we can do without it. If we're talking more new school and about a SP consistently going 6+ innings every start, then yes I agree. In the second scenario, Burnes is definitely the guy.
Agree with your take on Sasaki. I can see him spending his first year on the MLB / OKC shuttle, or even being the long man / spot starter / piggyback guy out of the pen. It really all depends on timing. Based on new rumors, Roki will not sign until the 2025 IFA opens, so the earliest he could join the organization is January 15th. I don't think the pitchers we're interested in via FA, i.e. Burnes, Snell, Fried, Buehler, etc ... are going to wait that long. Will he want to come to LA if he's not guaranteed a spot in the rotation? Other teams without our depth and World Series aspirations may have the advantage on us now. If not us, I just hope SDP or SFG doesn't get him. Hate to have to face him multiple times a year in the division.
This is high level stuff David, always enjoy commenting with you. Super proud of the type of conversation and folks this site has attracted, and your comments/you are at the top of that list.
It’s impossible to know what Corbin Burns would want in terms of contract and to know if he wants to play for the Dodgers, let alone if he wants to sign a team friendly deal. It’s safe to say that Burns has been waiting for free agency for a very long time and wants to get paid. I still think the Dodgers want to trade all these excess prospects for a starter
He'll definitely get paid every cent he's worth, no question about that. The Dodgers would pay him every dollar he would ask for, so when using the term "team friendly", that's not referring to him taking a discount, it's referring to being creative in how to get him all the money he's earned, but in creative ways that allow the organization to keep building. When you have what the Dodgers have right now, this type of stuff is more than plausible, sometimes it's likely, because guys want to leave a legacy of being a World Champion as well as getting paid full price. The Dodgers are one, and maybe the only one, organization, that can offer him both. Which means he gets the best of all worlds.
@@dodgersdaily True True. It was a masterful World Series Win. Let's go Dodgers!!!
Teo, Walker, Treinen, Roki, Adames, and Burns or Snell, would be an A+ off season.
Teo Burnes Kim Williams Treinen Sasaki That's my wish list, based on fit and need
I'd offer Burnes a 4 yr/$150 - 160 million.
It would cover his age 30-33 seasons.
Wouldn't think that would get close to getting him.
@@dodgersdaily I agree, just leary about going 6 to 8 years on him with a high AAV.
