Thank you so much, Mikkel, for all you share! I haven’t made pottery for decades, am eager to get back to it, but have been waiting to heal from shoulder and knee surgeries, and for my husband to have time to wire up the garage for my new kiln. I got discouraged waiting, even found my enthusiasm slipping (oh, no!), so a couple of months ago I went to youtube to immerse myself in pottery again. I chose pit firing to start - and there you were! The first video I watched (#23) got me all excited again! Your enthusiasm is so inspiring and infectious. You have so much knowledge and skill, and are an excellent teacher. I watch every video you make, and also really enjoyed the “Engaged: Raw and Uncut” interview of you, in which you spoke of the lasting value of handmade pottery. Well said! (Being a visual artist myself, I agree heartily, and the validation always helps.) I hope it won’t be long before I can start applying some of your guidance to pottery work of my own.
@@deMibPottery I want to thank you too, Mikkel, for making your videos in English so that I and so many others can learn from you. Reading the comments posted to your videos is an impressive world tour! Your teaching is very much appreciated.
@@deborahalysoun719 Thank you so much. I hope you know how much it means to me to hear from viewers like you how much you like what I do. Thank you :-)
Your video brought back memories for me. I am retired and unable to throw. As I watched your demo I could see that you and I throw larger forms exactly the same way. All moves were exactly the same. I learned my technique as a 22 yo production potter at a Los Angeles ceramics factory. You must have been a production potter at some time. Great video, I was told in classrooms early on that no 2 potters will throw alike. I don't believe that is true anymore.
Thank you that is very kind of you. It means a lot to me :-) I agree that in theory no to potters are alike. But then again, there are, after all, only so many ways to do things that eventually you will meet others that do things the same way. I actually have never been a production potter. I have had 3 good pottery teachers in my life - the rest is self study. I never did pottery for a living. I do sell now but it's not my primary business. And I actually like it this way because I can make what I want.
Hi Mikkel, how much clay weight would you say roughly for the first piece-maybe 5Kg or would it be more please? Great video, I'm currently trying to make some sectional pots. Sometimes it goes well...but sometimes not!
I am actually totally Zen. But I guess I can't make everyone happy. I am sure you will find other potters and videos you like more. Have a great day :-)
Thanks for sharing! Please if you could activate the subtitles for all your videos it would be great, so those of us who speak other languages could understand you better ❤️🩹
