    This is exactly the review I was looking for. I have purchased the ew200, ea500lm, em6l, and the ea1000. I ended up keeping the ea500lm with the bass impact / texture being a major deciding factor. The SM4 will likely do well but I think for myself I need an iem that has bass slam. Very interested in Aful Explorer 🌌

    Thanks for this! Sorry to hear about the shouty mids and lack of bass impact, especially since I listen at louder volumes. You just cemented the DaVinci as my next iem purchase. Explorer might also get thrown in the cart lol!
    Regarding the Nova, I've heard from multiple sources that cable rolling actually makes a significant difference with these, and that the stock cable is not a good match.

    I really dig your review style. I also dig your choice of IEMs listed I have either owned or spent enough time with to form an opinion except the SuperMix4. It seems to me in order to really crack the code for the western market is we want less pinna gain, a little less sub bass with a healthy does of mid bass to put some slam back in the equation without ruining the mids. I have a set like that. It started life as an OG EA500, I then sent it to Micheal Bruce of The Shortbus Audio Fame

    • @Atechreviews
      @Atechreviews  Місяць тому +1

      Thank you, I appreciate your comment. I agree with you. When an IEM is tuned with such high pinna gain, it seems the designer may be accustomed to listening to a very different kind of music, one that is more gentle and calm with fewer instruments. Just a brief listen to rock music reveals that the pinna gain is excessive. I want to ask, who is Michael Bruce?

    Another great and very honest review. This looked really interesting to me at its price point but I'm quite sensitive to intense upper mids shouty/shrillness. So since you found the Variations fine in that aspect (when I didn't) this is a definite no no.
    Its really the only gripe I have with Simgot iems when I look at the graphs, they love that elevated upper mid region/3k peak.
    The EM10 looks interesting but the measurements show that's even more pronounced in that region that the SM4. Will you be reviewing it?
    I appreciate some people aren't sensitive to that region so don't find those kind of upper mid presentations shrill/shouty, hence being subjective.
    I really like and respect that you made it clear on multiple occasions that this was just your opinion. Whilst that should seem obvious to people, many take a reviewers opinion as objective fact and are obsessed with which iem is objectively better x or y. or which one "wins". One person could have a totally different perception and preference to another person hence choosing y when you find x superior, which is fine.

    • @Atechreviews
      @Atechreviews  Місяць тому +3

      Thank you for your respectful and kind words. That's exactly how it should be, in my opinion. While I am more sensitive to treble than to mid-range shoutiness, I do notice it. The Variations provided a more balanced experience for me, but everyone's ears and preferences are different. SIMGOT does seem to favor an elevated upper mid-region, which can be a hit or miss depending on your sensitivity. I'm not sure if I will review the EM10.
      I appreciate your point about subjectivity in reviews. Audio perception is incredibly personal, and what works for one person might not for another. My goal is to provide my honest impressions while recognizing that they are just that-my impressions. It's crucial for each person to find what suits their tastes and sensitivities best, and to consider various reviews, frequency response graphs, and budget factors.
      Thanks again for your thoughtful comment! Your understanding of the subjectivity in audio reviews is refreshing and much appreciated.

    I have the LM's, use the bronze nozzle with the red ring. I backed the 4-6k region down 2-3 db with a couple of peak filters, and added around 1.5 db peak boost at 500 hz, then added a +1 db low shelf starting at 200 hz and now they sound fantastic. Very realistic, natural, "just the facts, ma'am" kind of sound with gobs of slam.
    Also use Devinus Velvet tips and added an Arti cable just because it looks cool. Yep, these things sound amazing. Just so natural and coherent. I notice how solid and well delineated the images seem--none of that whispy. ghostlike, indefinite quality you hear in so many of these cheap IEMs. Feel solid and look beautiful as well. I just like the idea of all metal IEMs. They just seem more expensive and of a higher quality than something made of resin. They look and feel like a luxury item, and if you didn't know what they cost, I don't see how you could look at even a $2000 IEM and say it looked like the more expensive item compared to the Simgots. Personally, IDK what could go into any IEM that would justify a $1900 price differential in terms of cost, let alone performance over them.

    • @Atechreviews

      The EA500 LM has more bass with greater slam and a different bass texture. On the other hand, the EA1000 excels in detail retrieval, instrument separation, and imaging. It also sounds wider and has a different tonality in the mid-range, with some parts sounding accentuated. However, the EA1000 can get slightly harsh with certain tracks, whereas the EA500 LM is less harsh with the same tracks. Ultimately, the biggest difference is in the clarity.

      LM vs Explorer is a comparison I'm curious about too. There was no LM comparison in the Explorer video on the channel. Of course they are quite different in terms of sound profile, but at least a comparison in terms of technicalities would be great.

    • @Atechreviews
      @Atechreviews  Місяць тому +4

      The Explorer has a more balanced sound compared to the EA500 LM. The EA500 LM is more vocal-forward, but its male vocals can sound a bit lean, and its upper mid-range can be somewhat energetic at times. However, considering the price and its other strengths, these aspects are forgivable IMO. In contrast, the Explorer places vocals in a comfortable, intimate range, avoiding any shoutiness or harshness. It delivers detailed and smooth treble without being harsh, and its lower mid-range sounds natural and full-bodied, unlike the lean male vocals of the EA500 LM. Additionally, the Explorer has slightly more bass with better texture and detail and has better technicalities and detail retrieval. The Explorer's ear pieces are very small as well. I hope this helps.

    You might not have the 8k peak exactly at 8k when wearing the iem in your ears. If you try to find the peak maybe with a sweep or specific tones, and try to match that peak in the graph, you might get a similar graph to what you are hearing.
    In other words, the 8k peak graphs only serve as reference for what you will hear if you also have the peak on 8k. If you have the peak in lower freqs like 6 o 7k, it will get sibilant and spicy in your ears and you can get that graph if you measure with the iem a little further out of the coupler.

Honestly, if I hadn't compared the SM4 to the EA500 LM, I would say it was okay with a few issues. But if the EA500 LM is better, what's the point?

    Maybe this simgot SM4 is more for FPS games rather than music?
    And it might be good for working (ie: online meetings)

    • @Atechreviews
      @Atechreviews  Місяць тому +1

      Certainly, it can be used for gaming and online meetings, but in my opinion, it's not ideal. The shoutiness and metallic treble timbre might make prolonged use uncomfortable, especially for FPS games. In contrast, the EA500 LM costs half as much and is better suited for these tasks. Its superior bass reproduction helps in discerning footsteps, while the improved detail retrieval and less shouty vocals reduce fatigue during extended use.

      @@Atechreviews interesting. But seems EA500LM is a single DD and SM4 has a multi driver, so it would be different in how many instruments we can hear.

    • @Atechreviews
      @Atechreviews  Місяць тому

      @@eboboboy More drivers don’t necessarily mean better sound. You can find IEMs with 16 drivers for under $80, if that's something you're interested in trying. On the other hand, there are IEMs like the Moondrop Beautiful World, which has a single dynamic driver and costs $777. High-quality single dynamic drivers and planars can cover the full frequency spectrum and provide an excellent frequency response. The advantage of a single driver is the cohesive sound it offers, which is often harder to achieve with hybrid designs.
      The benefit of multiple drivers lies in their ability to fine-tune specific frequencies, allowing for a tuning that might be difficult to achieve with a single driver. Some drivers, like electrostatic (EST) drivers, have a unique sonic character that's hard to replicate with other types. Similarly, planar and dynamic drivers each have their distinct strengths, such as the impactful bass from dynamic drivers.
      However, multiple drivers require careful implementation. To prevent them from interfering with each other, components like crossover boards, acoustic tubes, and resistors are used. If not done correctly, this can lead to phase distortion or an uneven phase response. When implemented well, though, these issues can be avoided, and the frequency response can be finely tuned for optimal performance.
      Ultimately, there is no definitive good or bad approach. Hearing more instruments and better instrument separation depends on the quality of the drivers, their low distortion, and a good frequency response. In my experience, single planar driver IEMs excel in detail and separation.

    I came away with the same experiences as you. With some genres, the SM4 is OK (acoustic rock, folk, etc). But with Metal, Hip-hop, Classic Rock, the SM4 is very shouty, and the mid-bass is sucked out, exacerbating the shout.

      So when I EQ the SM4 with a little less treble and a little more upper bass, so that I can turn them up to high volume without them getting shrill, Harmon EQ be damned these things sound great. Clarity and dynamics remain across the frequency range and overall warmth and musicality blossom without losing the treble sparkle and airiness.

  • @EmCeBra
    @EmCeBra Місяць тому

    I brought SM4 and found the treble is grainy, but that grain cause the bass to sound textured. I also have Chopin and the treble is completely smooth. Then, I swap SM4's to Chopin, and the Chopin becomes grainier. I think some people will call that grain "details", "texture", or "air" but I hate it. I think the harshness you talked about might be this grain from cable, swapping the cable to cheap copper cable remove this grain too. I hope you try SM4 on another cable.

      I'm not a fan of the EM6L. It features a QDC connector and has some issues that detract from the listening experience. There's slight bass bleed, the treble can become harsh, the bass lacks texture and has an average slam, and the mid-range can get shouty. Compared to the SM4, the EM6L has less bass and less upper mid-range but more treble.

      @Atechreviews  Місяць тому +4

      @@techblizmax9660 I didn't say or imply anything like that. I was simply sharing my opinion on two IEMs in comparison. The debate between single-driver and multi-driver or hybrid IEMs is a separate issue, dependent on factors such as tuning, driver quality, crossover design, and implementation. In other words, it doesn't matter if the IEM has a single DD driver or 2 DD + 4 BA + 4 EST drivers. What matters is the sound quality in the end and this depends on each IEM itself, not the driver type and count.
