I was born in early 2005, and I remember Frutiger Aero being the very first aesthetic I actually recognized as, well, an aesthetic. It’s so nice to now see videos talking about an aesthetic that was so prominent during my early childhood, but disappeared during the rest of it, including specific desktop screensavers/ wallpapers, soap bottles, and even the wii plane-flying thing, which I remember loving. Take care, Shaii and kylie!
I was born just early enough to see it die :,( #bringbackfrutiger #modernisplain
Same! It’s so nostalgic and bright. I love it so much.
I was born in January 2005. I grew up with the Wii, Windows 7, and a 3DS. :^]
it feels like i revisited childhood fr. i thought y2k was my childhood, but it was too early for me!
I feel old.
I was born 1995.
The early 00’s had this aesthetic everywhere.
This and frutiger metro are my latest obsession honestly. Aero is a dreamy child-like nostalgia of how the world felt, while metro feels like what everyone hoped being a teen would be as a kid. I hope the latter gets more coverage sooner or later, but a lovely feeling from everything here regardless.
Describing Frutiger Metro as "what everyone hoped being a teen would be as a kid" is such a perfect description of the aesthetic - I didn't realize it had a name, but I'm glad I read your comment so I can fall down that rabbit hole of nostalgia
Ah I had to look it up but Frutiger Metro is something I DISTINCTLY remember everywhere from my youth haha. The intro for Rollercoaster (TV block here in Australia) is a great example of it! :D
Frutiger Metro was my jam as a kid. I would doodle those kind of designs on EVERYTHING.
Took me a google but I remember so many games looking like that, World Ends with You was a big one
The internet is so wild. Vaporwave of the 80s and 90s for the last decade, and now frutiger aero of the 00s. It's like as we age, we reach for different eras of nostalgia.
There's several nostalgias for different eras happening at the same time. It isn't as linear as you think, and it isn't dependant on age
@@AsrielKekker I mean. The last ten years it was all VHS and vaporwave aesthetic. Only in the last couple of years have I seen people tackle and go back to FA.
It's the last one I'm gonna feel nostalgic for and that makes me feel hella old.
@@Litepaw I really don't want to feel nostalgic for this era in 20 years.
Is it possible to have nostalgia for more than two different decades? Or one full decade and two halves of other decades? Young adulthood supposedly feels like the mid point in life since that's when our brain development is complete, and everything that comes after that registers as "recent".
I wasn't fond of Frutiger Aero until Corporate Memphis took over. Made me miss the aforementioned.
Corporate Memphis is fucking trash and I hate it.
Had too look it up, yeah the corporate menphis looks so dang ughly
Same! I used to think it was too bright and cheesy but now I miss how much life and optimism we had.
@@okayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy exactly. It had hope.
Corporate Memphis is all Facebook/Zuckerberg's fault. When Facebook got popular everyone moved to their minimalist aesthetic.
When you said that the Goodnight show was mostly lost, I felt strange. I saw that show. Every night. I'm a 2005 kid and remember that show so well and I *know* a lot of other people do, so it is so strange that nobody archived it. This is the first time I've felt this close to a lost media case, lol. Thanks for the excellent video! Top quality!
I felt that same way, I remember thinking I was too old for it, but loving it anyways.
I’m a 2008 kid, and I also faintly remember this show. very strange that no one archived it
this is the closest i've ever been to a lost media case too. i never would have thought that would be lost
Back in 2019-2017 I used to go to my nanas and it used to play on her old TV. Man I miss those times.
Same. It feels weird actually knowing that I’ve SEEN lost media. I need it to be found, it was such a weirdly integral part of my childhood.
It's weird how prevalent this style was, when, in the moment, I didn't even notice it.
Ngl, I'm not suprised Frutiger Aero has its own lost media. With such a niche aesthetic that's been long-forgotten by most, it's no suprise the lost media is like a goldmine.
I'm glad my two favorite lost media youtubers are collating together, thank you for this :)
Born in 1995. Frutiger Aero and Frutiger Metro were THE trend when I was growing up. I miss Frutiger Aero.
Like many have said, I didn't realize how optimistic and hopeful it was at the time. It makes me feel safe, somehow.
You two guys have such relaxing and alluring and appealing voices, your partnership is a match made in heaven.
I concur! These two make lost media dreamy & cool; Blameitonjorge makes it creepy & foreboding; LSuperSonicQ makes lost media peppy & bright, hopeful even.
You had me at "Pretend we're in 2007."
FOO PETS!! I would sit on the purchase screen as a kid putting in random credit card details hoping to commit credit card fraud on foo pets 😶🌫️
I think this ascetic was influenced by computer graphics advancements. Companies were pushing how powerful their technology was with these 3D rendered environments. “You see this 3D rendered dolphin? Looks cool right, you should buy our computers” and goddamnit it worked
SO glad you talked about FooPets!!!! I've never seen it mentioned anywhere else and it seems it was a really niche childhood memory for me. I spent soooo much time on that website and various other now defunct virtual pet worlds from 2007-2009. I'd love for you to make a video covering some of these other lost virtual pet flash games/mmos because ohhhhhhhh boy was it a saturated market around that time and there are so many obscure ones that probably live in the deepest corners of my memory.
Hey, if you're familiar with frutiger aero music playlists on youtube, I can give you a cool backstory on the "Lease" song by takeshi abo. It comes from a pretty obscure visual novel for the ps2 that sold decently in Japan. One of the characters of the game is a robot maid whose theme in the game became popular because it gives frutiger aero vibes. The sequel, my merry maybe, has a remake of the theme and is actually a pretty interesting story on its own. I can elaborate if anyone is interested.
hearing de blob mentioned here is such a pleasant surprise! it's a fantastic game that holds up super well, especially the 2nd one. i think a lot of ppl who vibe w this aesthetic would enjoy the world and scenery. also enjoyed seeing the project diva mention! miku is such a perfect character for frutiger aero and the game also fits it quite well :]
Great video, as always! Chao Garden was a big part of my childhood. God what I wouldn't do for Sega to make a Chao Garden mobile game. They'd make so much money, and probably bring a lot of new fans to the series. Totally seems like the type of game that'd go viral on tiktok just cause it's cute.
Two of my favorite lost media UA-camrs in a video together?! You LOVE to see it.
i recently got into frutiger aero aesthetic because my little sister found our old notebooks that were made in such design. thanks for the video!!
As a former avid Sprout-watcher, i had no idea that The Good Night Show was lost media in the first place, let alone that so much of it was lost!! Seeing all that recovered footage unlocked some major core memories! It makes me genuinely sad knowing that almost all of the episodes have been lost, hope all of it gets found eventually!
I’m so honored that you covered the Creatures from Planet 66 animation! I was the one who created the article and did a lot of the research for it :) thank you so very much!
Sprout went so hard
My mom really wasn't strict with bedtime so I stayed all night watching sprout
I have to ask, did you see the final airing? I remember watching it and it made me so sad
i can definitely relate to that first part because my mom let me be a little night owl haha but i actually don't think i ever did see the final airing!
@@sombertoboggly
Oh my god, I would tell you top from bottom on how it happened! But that'd be long as hell < 3 <
Short though is, each episode airing and ending was her talking about her journey (I believe) and at the end she either wished us farewell with a song or just a simple farewell
Thank you for the great video. I really love topics like this and lost media in general. I've been someone who "archives" things I find ever since I was a kid, I guess you could also call that hoarding, but then when I first owned a PC that ran windows 95 (which I still have to this day lol) that archival spirit transitioned to the virtual world too. I try to save anything and I rarely delete things because I feel preservation is important.
I'm looking forward for the next video and I'll be again waiting for you to include another Boards of Canada song in the background even if it didn't happen in this video.
Being born in 05’ I wasn’t able to experience the true youth of fruitger aero but I do remember our desktop computer with windows 7 but the best fruitger aero memories come from playing on the Nintendo Wii and especially the Nintendo 3DS, and I always loved the esthetic, I’m 18 now and I want to go back to when everything had bubbles and a glossy finish :(
Hauntology. The experience of perceiving that the future that was promised never arrived.
im about to smoke a bowl thanks for making a frutiger video 😭🙏
2:02 the way a literal soap bottle brought so much nostalgia is unreal
I still have Reggie in my Mii plaza
He'll always be the GOAT
Frutiger aero revoked a childhood memory i never realized i had experienced
There definitely was a Wow Wow Wubzy episode with Skrillex, I do remember watching it and the design, I think the plot was like a dance party. Especially considering they collaborated with BEYONCE!!!! then I don't doubt it
This channel is such a gem. So underrated
This was a relaxing way to ease into the work week after the long weekend! Thank you 🙏🏻
Love that the cat is on the lost media thumbnail and talked about. Cats are the BEST.
i watched the goodnight show on sprout all the time as a kid so to hear that most of those episodes are just completely lost is crazy to me. like chances are i saw a good amount of those lost episodes.
Another great video!! Thanks for making such cool videos on these pieces of lost media. It’s always super interesting!
I’m going through an extremely stressful time in my life and I just found your channel. It helps so much with my anxiety to watch nostalgic content about the 90s and early 2000s like this video. It’s calming to be reminded of a simpler time when I was a kid and a teenager I think. I like internet mysteries too so I’m definitely a new subscriber! ❤
speaking of lost shiny flash stuff, the flash game Bubble Tanks 3 had two paid extra content packs called "Parts Packs" that weren't archived due to only being accessible after logging in with a long-dead authentication server. i think one of the developers even wrote on his resume about how good the protection was...which is true, but now i paid for it and can't use it anymore :(
I'm so excited to watch this coz my bf at the time got the Wii as soon as it was released in our country. Very few ppl here bought it at first, but my bf and I really loved it. I've never heard any lost media type things about it, so I'm very curious!
loving these new uploads!! your content is geting more and more polished, keep up the interesting videos
thank you!
This is a really good video!! I love hearing about all this stuff :0 and something that I started thinking about during the gaming section of the video was Leapfrog, but more specifically the Leapster. I feel it gives off the frutiger aero vibe :)
They were gonna make a platformer for the Jamster ringtone mascots and weren't gonna include Schnuffel Bunny? What were they thinking?
Ahhhh, two things I love,
Lost media
Furtiger areo
Would you ever consider an episode about surreal screensavers? I know some are commonly talked about like the turtle with a city on it's back; but I remember a screensaver my dad had of an evilly smiling cgi clown in the dated, creepy style of crazy frog. It feels like a fever dream memory though because I've yet to find it.
fun fact: the good night show eventually became "Nina's World", which had a lot of the same components, even hush the goldfish if i remember right. it might even still be going.
edit: it is still going, universal kids is still running episodes of it.
Amazing video, always love your work!
I say this every time i hear about this style but back in the day i noticed the style of everything being water and bubbles and primarly blue, green and yellow. And I had friends that had no clue what I was talking about and just thought I was just seeing it everywhere because I was looking for it😂. I remember arguing with one of them once saying why the hell does everything try to look like its covered in sprite and in sprite colors?
Yay, new video!! Great way to start the week❤
I watched your Frutiger Aero video from 8 months ago just... 4-5 hours ago and now you drop this? Spooky.
This is a great video with lots of stuff I havent heard of before. Although a few entries I feel may be stretching what's considered Frutiger Aero. But I'm certainly no expert.
25:13 i'm actually quite pleased to see Meteos get some mention here, since that game series is a goldmine of lost media and lost information.
though, the main game series hasn't seen any releases since 2008's Meteos Wars. with the last known spinoff game for the series was 2013's Meteos for Kakao. which is... also lost media... since only one singular footage of gameplay exists, and a handful of screenshots taken from the game.
there is also Meteos Mobile, which was only released on Japanese mobile phone's. but much like Meteos Online, it was discontinued and barely any footage or gameplay of it exists anywhere. only just screenshots...
Fun fact, the guy who made the iconic "future gen. consels wii2 ps4 xbox720?" video now works for Epic Games and is a producer on Fortnite. He made a video that became a classic of our generation, and now he's working on the biggest games of the next generation.
I was so glad to recognise FA as an aesthetic- because whenever i open my phone in my dreams, its got a frutiger aero UI- been trying to explain it to people for years!
Yes! More Frutiger Aero stuff! Give me my fix! 😬
ooh interesting
edit: I love the visuals in this vid, you can see the effort put into it.
ngl ive been waiting since spring for another frutiger aero video from this channel
I am very surprised that that aesthetic is still nostalgic. Assuming that I was basically a baby when Frutiger Aero stopped being popular but yeah.
you broke it down perfectly thank you 4 this video
I did not know about deblob online that's wild. Loved the first one as a kid. Great vid as always, keep it up.
Spore was a much different game in its alpha/beta stages - being more realistic, having more stages like an aquatic stage, etc. I never followed Spore's development, but I understand why those who did were disappointed by the final product. YTer SewerReviewer made a lost media vid on Spore's cut content months ago.
Love the video on classic lost media!!!
I do feel as though some of these aren’t really frutiger aero and more so sub genres of nostalgia core
But I still love the video!!
I've been hyped for this let's go
hideki naganuma is a legend. i love our funky uncle and his silly tweets
i loved foo pets as a kid!! crazy to think it's now lost media
Hey, cool to see Nakayoshi Chao! I made an in depth video on this a while back, not trying to plug myself or anything, it's just cool to see someone else cover it since I don't see people talk about it much. Kinda surprising since I always hear people asking why a chao mobile game hasn't been made yet, but they actually have. :)
i did come across your nakayoshi chao video while making this! looking at your channel now, i just realized i watched your monkey ball banana crazy video a long time ago too :)
@@sombertobogglyYooo that's awesome. I've been a fan of your videos for a while now so hearing that you've watched my stuff before is cool.
You keep making videos like this I’m gonna subscribe
the ambient wii background noise is what i hear when im not thinking about anything
i live for your frutiger aero videos
The Future is Wild kids series was amazing and really had some frutiger aero vibes!!
A great pleasure to watch 😌
Do yall remember the og ps3 photos tab it had such bright colors and such it reminds me of this aesthetic
ok so i swear i remember watching something like this on tv when i was reallly little. i had cable tv and i would watch it alll the time.
Foo pets is lost!? Thats so sad, I loved that game as a kid! This fr unlocked like hidden core memories in me hahaha
no way the spore hero game is lost!! i remember playing it on some polish websites back in the day, i'll definitely have a look though as most of the games on those websites still work alright!
edit: i found it listed but the actual game has been removed... rip
My two favorite topics as one 👑
This aesthetic always hits me hard. It reminds me of when times were good.
haven’t seen these games since i was little😭 the nostalgia is unmatched
this is just so nice and glossy at this point
I am considering turning every well known Frutiger Aero picture into a canvas and displaying them all in my house.
these FA videos heal me. gotta watch the new kylie!
kylie talking about my favorite silly hatsune miku franchise even if for like 10 seconds 💞💞💞💞
Something that should've also been here is lost promos/bumpers for the Hub network between October 2010 and June 2011. During the first era of that channel, all the bumpers screamed the frutiger aero aesthetic
i was born in 2004 and grew up with windows 7 era computers while i was 5-12 years old. i wanna go back to those simpler times
Imagine being born in 2010 and still having frutiger aero to 2017 - only in Poland
yess but you can encounter it here to this day, for example often in cheap school notebooks design. Frutiger somehow lives on and i love it
the goodnight show🥺🥺🥺man... i had no idea that any of it was lost media. I watched it just about every night. i remember segments where they would do sand drawing and another one where they showed that you could color a page rainbow, draw over all of it wirh black crayon, and then use a coin or fingernail to scratch off the top layer to make a pretty rainbow picture. I'd love to see a full video about the subject
it seems that aesthetics like this are so popular because they are nostalgic. It makes me wonder: is that a good sign because we are connecting with are childhoods in a positive way? or is it a bad sign because we dont want to live in our current reality and we want to go back to being a child forever? for those of us with somewhat rocky childhoods, its sad to realize that so many of our positive childhood memories came from TV, the internet, and video games, rather than school, family, physical activity, and friends
My guess for the Wii photo channel photos is that they were taken specifically by Nintendo employees themselves to be used specifically for the banner for that channel. If this is the case, which it likely is, they probably have no interest in releasing them any time soon, seeing as how they probably don't care about lost media and don't want anything they created to be enjoyed in any context other than it's original, preservation of media be damned, as evidenced by when they sued someone for trying to preserve a Mario 64 manual online, or how they completely shut down the E-shop for the 3DS and Wii U with no regards for what happens to the games that could only be bought through the E-shops on those specific consoles.
Exactly. They're the kind of people that would rather just let it be lost than let people be able to see it.
@@ExtremeWreck If they can't monetize your joy, they'd rather not let you have that joy
Were there ever any 3DSs that had a blue circle pad like is shown at 16:59? I've seen (what I believe are) renders on online store pages, but never one in real life. All circle pads on all colors and variants of 3DS consoles are gray without exception so I wonder what the deal is.
I know you asked this question 5 months ago, but the physical prototype shown at E3 2010 did have the matching circle pad. Wikipedia has a photo of it! Considering that there were playable demos at that E3, it's likely an operable one existed at one point, but good luck actually finding one now.
@@kathrynredmond5294 You're right! The 3DSs at E3 all had circle pads that matched the console's color! It's hard to see in most videos because people's thumbs cover them but I didn't see a single gray analog stick. IGN has a hands-on video with Fran Mirabella III that shows off a black 3DS very clearly.
I wonder why Nintendo changed the design at the last minute. And I wonder where all these colorful consoles went afterward 🤔
@@guy-sl3kr Could be anything from cost to supplier availability to durability to performance to it not being satisfying to use during extensive play testing. Looks like ones thumb would slide right off it in more intensive games.
How Long Will It Take was found as How Long by Paula Toldeo
I’m like 90% sure that our old Xbox 360 still has Dorito’s crash course 2 on it 😅 me and my sister played the first one so much. Also that Jamster game, holy shit I used to have a figurine/keyring of the green dragon, seeing that image just unlocked some deeply hidden memory, I didn’t even know it was a Ringtone character! I’ve got no idea where/when I got him, but he was one of those early childhood figures that went everywhere with me 😂 no idea what happened to him, he might still be in a box somewhere, who knows
19:29 How Long Will It Take has been identified, actually! It's the song How Long by Paula Toledo.
And bubble dreams has also been identified! It's cloud zone redux from Frogger, He's Back!
For me Frutiger Aero started with gen 6 consoles and ended with gen 7. Dreamcast definitely helped kick off the start of it and it kinda ended with the Wii, XB360, and PS3.
I didnt remember the good night show by the title alone but the lady and the star puppet!! I dont think i was in the age range for it but my sister would have been if so, and I remember seeing little bits and pieces of it on occasion
I remember being like 4 and watching the Goodnight Show. Such a fever dream.
Zanpo looks so much fun, I wish I knew about it. I assume it had success if it lasted almost 20 years. I bet people have a lot of fond memories of it.
She's back 🎉🎉🎉🎉
If you ever do a second video one this topic, there is a flash game that has been lost to time for a while and was released during this era. It's called Amateur Surgeon Hospital. It was originally a game playable on Facebook and was created by Adult Swim as a sort of sequel/spin off to the games Amateur Surgeon and Amateur Surgeon 2. You were able to operate in the game and do a lot more stuff. You could think of it like dragon city from around that time period, where it was a Facebook exclusive. There used to be a lot of videos on UA-cam of it's gameplay, but are now lost.
The nighttime show one made me sad
Great video, try making a video about Frutiger Aero's flat twin, Frutiger Metro.
Interesting stuff
i hope someone archives foopets cuz it looks so fun to play :((((( anyways great video!!!! i liked it
cool video, nice way to connect two semi connected UA-cam tropes into one cohesive theme. Cheers!
ALL MY HOMIES LOVE FRUTIGER AERO 🐟🐟🐟
HELL YEAH 🫧🫧🫧🐠🐠
