The music is great, but I depise the video, no shot is longer than 1 second, they keep switching all the time, my brain hates that. I had the video cassette for this and only played it once for that reason. I'd rather listen to the CD's of that package.
My mom said she was at this show. It was like 8 or 9 months before I was born, she said she was so happy after the show she returned with my dad because they had an argument before. This show must of soaked into her ovaries or something. She did have backstage passes and met the band and stayed for like 5 hours after the show, they must of had good food.. I am fine to be honest, now I just play bass with a pick, have a gutural voice and i have long hair, although for some reason it doesnt grow on the sides of my head.. and once my band muted my bass entirely on one album and I have no idea why.
Yea cliff used to complain his "neck kinda hurt all the time"...the manager says in the interweiw. I told him maybe he should tone down the head movements...he shrugged it off sayin..naw it couldnt be THAT!
I mean to be honest you probably aren't wrong xD They ruled the fucking world, and 89-92 I felt was their TIGHTEST fucking era as a band. I would not doubt though that there were even crazier shows than this though. Metallica concerts just seemed to be un fucking matched.
I love that you can hear the natural fluctuations in tempo throughout this performance. The band pushes and pulls where it feels natural. No in-ear monitors, just a bunch of loud-ass monitors on the ground to hear each other. Perfect.
That’s what I’ve always enjoyed about this band. They don’t have cookie cutter performances that all sound the same from one show to the next. They always had the human sounding element to them. It disappoints me when I listen to a band live and it just sounds like a machine performing the songs!
Jeff Porcaro once said "a good musician knows how to dance around the beat and make it intesresting and less tight for the others to be able to play around too". in short it gives room to improvise knew/original things to make the performance unique. playing always the same at the very note and be tight like a virgin pussy... well just play with robots or along a beat machine LOL. one of Steve Wonders' best songs has been recorded without clic and the song is all over the place. still one of the best songs in music history. go figure... if it feels good, it's right. simple as that.
The whole mix sounds good but this is not what it really sounded like there’s a bootleg somewhere showing the raw soundboard of this show Lars best kit IMO
That part when Newsted makes love to his bass, and then Hetfield and Hammet gradually enter the scene with their guitars...always causes me skin-flaying goosebumps, no matter how much time passes. This concert is ETERNAL.

Couple notes. The dude at 0:53 is how I always feel when I'm about to see Metallic. The way James walks up to the mic in Blackened is just so badass. And Ecstacy of Gold is and always will be the greatest opening for any band ever.
Lars is sooo god damn hungry. In all my years of thrash and jazz this is still one of the most explosive and aggressive drum performances I have ever heard.
He's technically a shitty drummer, but on the classic albums, he had his heart in everything the band was trying to do, and a lot of Metallica fans discount that. James was always the guy with the riffs, but Lars was the voice encouraging James and helping him put those pieces together.
This why Metallica has been held in such high esteem in the Music world. They played every note with conviction, and gave everything in their concerts. Although I know that Lars is a bit of a shadow of what he was, he was on fire here and he inspired many drummers, myself included with his approach to his drum parts. Lars definitely was a great drummer. Great to see so many people highlighting Jason's contribution to Metallica's success. To quote James in a recent interview, "he was a force on stage" You can really see that here.
No disrespect to Cliff(dude was 1 in a billion), but Jason pulled them thru a really tough time in their career, I think they should make a song ode to him at some point. The guy deserved better, he was loyal, and full of life, energy, and metal baddassery they needed at the time to keep doing what they loved. Epic band forever, and this is how I remember them.
Ive been listening to this concert for 10 years now, I cant believe how aggresive, fast and precise anyone can play (and sing) at the same time. Unbelievable.

the impression is that each of them took a combination of trenbolone + Viagra + cocaine and went on stage. The brutality of the instruments and rage of Jason's backing vocals make this the biggest performance of any live band, not just metal, but any genre. Master of Puppets is the show's biggest moment and it's mesmerizing. Every day I see at least one song from this show, and that's been years.

@@TheTrooperMB right, but today's Lars plays at about 10% of the level he was playing at this show. In this show he's got mostly solid tempo, hangs back in the fills so he doesn't end up rushing. Even plays most of the double bass parts.
It wasn't just 1 show, they were 2. First one night, and then the other one. And in all the videos of the concert I have seen, they plug the two performances into one. Because of that, sometimes Jason magically appears with a brown bass instead of his black one. (And I know he could have it behind as a backup, but fuck it)
I have heard both bootlegs , I could not tell you the difference , energy was there for both and I can't tell which days which songs were used for the official release either

Hurts your heart more when you find out Master of Puppets was Cliff’s favorite song to perform.
That whole sequence of Jason sitting and starting the piece from to live is to die and them walking out and joining him to the badass transition into cliffs favorite jam is just beautiful man. Easily my favorite part of the concert. Jason's volume swell piece of his solo is pretty F'in awesome too

I mean I love Pantera, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden. But to me no band will ever come close to what Metallica has done with their first 5 albums. The last 2 albums are great too. People always talk about how Kirks or Lars' technique sucks. Im just a regular guy who doesnt give a shit about pentatonic scales or whatever. I just love the sound that comes out the speakers. This is music not the fucking olympics so I just love the musicality of the band not the speed that theyre playing or technique that theyre using. Im a music fan. Looking forward to seeing them in Estonia in July
How was the concert?🤟

I’m 23 years old, and if I could go back in time to one single night in history, it would be this one no doubt. I saw Metallica in Detroit in 2017, and it just was not near the same. I wish I could’ve seen these guys when they were just a couple years older than me..
The music is great, but I depise the video, no shot is longer than 1 second, they keep switching all the time, my brain hates that. I had the video cassette for this and only played it once for that reason. I'd rather listen to the CD's of that package.

I know, Cliff is a band`s pillar. But this is the best moment of Metallica: the energy, heavy soul and a more mature sound than before.
Best tone, high energy. Hungry to play, James’ voice was perfect. Set list couldn’t be touched

Cliff was a musical genius and gave Metallica the sound they needed. Jason on the other hand brought a whole new level of energy and aggression never seen before in Metal/Rock history. We used to called Jason the "new demon" in Metallica. He was scary and was absolutely insane at concert.
Every once in a while I watch this show. Always gives me an incredible energy. The mightiest band on earth. They were so tight, so powerful, so scary. Unbeatable. Love you Metallica.

In all my years of thrash and jazz this is still one of the most explosive and aggressive drum performances I have ever heard.
He's technically a shitty drummer, but on the classic albums, he had his heart in everything the band was trying to do, and a lot of Metallica fans discount that. James was always the guy with the riffs, but Lars was the voice encouraging James and helping him put those pieces together.
the danish don
This why Metallica has been held in such high esteem in the Music world. They played every note with conviction, and gave everything in their concerts. Although I know that Lars is a bit of a shadow of what he was, he was on fire here and he inspired many drummers, myself included with his approach to his drum parts. Lars definitely was a great drummer. Great to see so many people highlighting Jason's contribution to Metallica's success. To quote James in a recent interview, "he was a force on stage" You can really see that here.
