According to Serebii, Wishiwashi's ability, Schooling, changes it's form from Solo form to School form once it reaches a certain level. So basically, it evolves without evolving? It's implying that the change is permanent. That would be sick though.
I think that the ability will make it "evolve" (change to its schooling form) while you're still in the battle instead of evolving after the battle like usual which would be pretty nice and it changes the usual formula up a bit, either way sun and moon is just pure hype

I've always been in favour of grass type starters, but as soon as they revealed Popplio, I instantly became a water starter fan. The evolutions for it looks amazing imo. I agree it looks very feminine but I don't think that's a bad thing.
Hey Shofu. I watched a gamexplain discussion about the corocoro leaks and they pointed out that Pyukumuku may be more than just a sea cucumber, but a bunny as well. It's mouth is actually a typical mockup of a rabbit's mouth in anime and such, also it's body shape kinda resembles a rabbit. That's totally weird, right? But I totally see it and it does explain the random cotton tail. XD Thought you'd be interested to know. I already liked it, but now I'm super hyped to see what this thing evolves into. XD
Alolan Raichu probably came to be due to the unpredictable weather in Alola. Maybe it tried to predict and read the weather and unlocked it's psychic potential
You know, I think back to the Pikachu from the anime ep. "The Pi-Kahuna" in season 1. There was a Pikachu in the Seafoam Islands that was able to sense big waves, and its eyes would glow when it did. Perhaps that's the inspiration for Alolan Raichu's Psychic-type? I know it's a stretch, but hey, it's all speculation at this point anyway, so might as well throw in my two cents!
In the battle video with Hau, he has a regular Pichu. So that means 1 of 4 things: 1. Alolan forms can affect just one stage. 2. He somehow got it from another region. 3. The form changes can be initiated on pre gen 7 pokemon later on in the game. 4. They just didn't want us to know about the forms at the time so they didn't use and Alolan Pichu and it does affect all stages.

So Wishiwashi has an ability that works like an evolution but it's not actually one. So if someone hits it with Gastro acid or changes it's ability it goes back to being a little fish or is it gonna be like Stance Change where it can't be changed?

Double speed in electric terrain which already provides it a 50% boost in electric damage? Might be nice in doubles. You could run a set with max sp.atk and hp to make it as bulky as possible with a modest nature and maybe something like a life orb. With no speed investment you'd still hit 512. With the combination of stab, life orb, and electric terrain neutral thunderbolt has 263 base power, if you could get rain up a neutral thunder has ~322 base power and is a serious option also. In comparison, Darmanitan's stab life orb sheer force Flare Blitz has base power 304 I think.
considering Raichu looked nothing like this it's a problem. Raichu was suppose to be the cooler one between Pikachu and Raichu. Just look back on Ash vs Lt Surge. Looking at this it looks like a damn Fairy type. Raichu should have had an edgier design then this. It's clear they only made this to sell stupid plush dolls.

Its a possibility. Since Vulpix and Ninetails and Sandshrew and Sandslash both got an Alonan form then maybe Pichu and Pikachu might get one as well. I mean it makes sense that an Alonan Pokemon will evolve and still have an Alonan form.

Alolan vulpix and nintails changed to ice type because as a fire type they would have to constantly be using energy to keep themselves warm so they Adapted to be able to survive the cold climates of the high mountain areas better. Also my buddy found information saying that allan raichu's ability surge surfer allows the user's speed to double when electric terrain is active on the field (so electric swift swim)

I personally think that with all the Alolan types like Ninetails and Sandshrew that Pokemon is adding the whole "adaptation" thing to the game. It makes sense since the whole Charles Darwin survival of the fittest is exactly like what's happening to the Pokemon. Ninetails moved to the mountains, and due to the severe cold weather they were forced to adapt and change to ice types or die out. It's how Polar Bears were formed in the wild. A brown bear gave birth to a bear with a mutated gene that gave them white, and more fur one point back in the day, and that bear became the first polar bear. It seems weird at first but it definitely adds more depth to Pokemon because it's something that's happening in the real world.
Y'all know what I think? I think that Whishiwashi's Schooling ability will make it gain higher evasiveness... I mean think about it- a school of fish swim around all fast and stuff when predators appear, and it makes it hard for them to choose a single target to eat on. The same thing applies here.... The Schooling ability will make the large amount of fish appear, making the Evasion stat rise by at least one, since the real Wishiwashi is hidden amongst the many other fish..... Just a thought ^^'

If you read the official website there is Pokedex info explaining why every official Alolan Pokemon has adapted and it makes perfect sense why the changes. Below are a few and no these are not word for word. I am explaining it from memory. The Vulpix line we're brought to Alola by humans. They moved into the icy mountains to avoid the natural habitats of native Pokemon. Living in seclusion on a holy mountain they became emissaries of the mountain, no longer being able to withstand hotter temperatures. The gentle nature of their evolved form, Ninetails, has lead to humans being rescued when in distress. The Sandshrew line moved from the desert into the icy mountains to escape volcanic eruption. Over time their claws hardened to steel and their bodies adapted to the cold climate. Exeggutur is in it's true form and only is as we previously knew him due to a lack of sunlight in all previous regions. Alolan Meowth was bred by the total family to form this new varient of the Pokemon line. Marowak is based on a fire knife dancer. It dances with its weapon to Ward off it's enemies. It is a show of strength against it's arch enemy. The Pokedex does not state what the arch enemy is but I do know that these dances also showed (in real life) that the warrior is not afraid of death but really is a way to be brave in the face of death because the warrior often was a little afraid. Since Cubone was badlybaffected by it's mother being taken away by death, an enemy that most Pokemon cannot defeat, it makes sense for the line to have developed a culture such as this given what it means culturally in real life.

One thing that I've noticed about the Alolan Pokémon so far is that all final stage Pokémon have dual typings. It's nothing too significant, I just thought I'd point it out
How about this. Raichu used to be electric/psychic type and had a happy nature. When some of them migrate into other regions, they were abused by those bug types. That's why they dropped the psychic type and had a tougher nature.
I guess Raichu gaining the Psychic-type is a way to show it can control its electricity. Look at Pikachu in the Anime, there's a few episodes where Pikachu can just call out a lightning bolt by accident. If this Raichu is a surfer, calling a lightning while surfing would be dangerous to anything around it. Ohh, psychic types are bulkier, but slower.
I was agreeing with you on Raichu going from awesome to cute, until I noticed something flat out badass that makes up for the cuddlier looking main body: the end of Alolan Raichu's tail looks like the blade of a halberd.

I think the reasoning behind Raichu being psychic isn't because it's smart, but because it allows him to levitate off the ground by telekinetically pushing off liquid and solid surfaces (which is the reason he's floating on his tail), so it's now able to travel from island to island, eating different foods on different islands and allowong for any necessary migration to be possible.
Knowing this info there is probably an Item that lets Pokemon that evolve into alolan form turn into what they normally were...or prevents them from evolving into an Alolan Pokemon but lets it evolve into its normal form.
How the fish pokemon works: At low levels it wont transform into its giant fish counterpart during battle. But When it reaches a certain level, it`ll transform mid-battle.
I'm assuming Wishiwashi abilities allow it to change into it's school form when it attacks and change back in it's turn ends. I think any water type moves triggers it or an "evolution" type move.
Alola form Raichu could be a tribute to the surfing Pikachu "Puka" of the first Pokemon series that had some sort of psychic power and it surfed. That would explain the psychic typing .
Wishiwashi works probably similar to how Zygarde works, where multiples form up to create something more powerful but for a limited time. Probably will be more pokemon like this.
Maybe the pikachus of Alola grew so close to the people, they grew a 6th sense to bond with their trainers to a new level or they made an artificial Thunderstone or something. One thing is for sure, Ash's Pikachu is gonna relive yet another stupid but awesome "I must defeat him on my own terms for I am a Pikachu with pride" Bullsh*t Battle.
Don't know how I feel 'bout Raichu. Its the Pokemon version of Silver Surfer but it looks more like Aromatise or Slurpuff than something Lt. Surge would use.
So random theory here but.. Since execute evolves to executor with a leaf stone maybe they evolve without a stone in the alola region without a stone... So the same would go for pikachu it normally evolves to Raichu with a thunder stone so in the Alola region it evolves by level.... Just a thought on how they could get away with having non-alola pikachu and execute evolve into Alola forms
the raichu aloha form is based of the Puka from the anime (the surfing pikachu) as it's surfing on its tail, and the blues eyes are similar as well as well its similar psychic power to predict when the waves were coming in that episode.
I really wish they'd give Lilligant an additional Fairy-Typing. She's perfect for it, and admittedly my fave so I'm a bit biased. Lilligant love needed.

Still, I'm glad that Raichu was even _acknowledged._ The poor guy never gets any love at all ever since they upped its base stats by 10 or so a long while back. Sucks that Psychic isn't too hot of a secondary type for Electric; in fact it's a straight up burden (3 new weaknesses and no offensive help against things that already contest Electric type? Meh..), but I can see some cool difference to it's moveset and possibly stats due to this.

Maybe Raichus had a problem with being hunted in Alola and the smartest Raichus were the ones that learned to surf away from predators on their tails so they survived and passed on their smart gene? Could explain the Psychic typing, who knows.

I think the Alolan Raichu is related to Puka. That blue eyed Pikachu that was able to sense the waves. Its eyes reminded me of that plus the Surfing Pikachu. Now we have a surfing Raichu that adapted to that sensing waves hence the Psychic typing.
I think of Raichu becoming Psychic could maybe relate to him being a surfer, as he surfs on his tail. Maybe he was sad seeing the other pokemon/humans being able to surf and because he has so much pent up electricity he cant get in the water with discharging that electricity. Just saw how Pyukumuku will be used competitively if it doesn't get an evolution. Focus sash, pain split, then let it die. You absorb enough health from them so that when you get knocked out you either kill them or get them super low.
when ever i see alolan raichu's blue eyes, it makes me think back to the anime with the old man and the surfing pikachu that had blue eyes and a connection to the see.
It would seem that Pokemon is finally drawing influence from actually evolution especially considering the Galapagos like islands and birds would lead me to believe that they would have to have an Alolan version of Pikachu and Execute.
I got a theory. Shady said it best. When you think of original Pokemon you think Pikachu and Meowth. From the dawn of time (and by time I think anime), it's been those two fighting against eachother. Meowth is bad. Pikachu is good. So Meowth just got his type changed to dark. So I can totally see why pikachu just so happened to be given a type that is the counter to the dark type

In the battle video with Hau, he has a regular Pichu. So that means 1 of 4 things:
1. Alolan forms can affect just one stage.
2. He somehow got it from another region.
3. The form changes can be initiated on pre gen 7 pokemon later on in the game.
4. They just didn't want us to know about the forms at the time so they didn't use and Alolan Pichu and it does affect all stages.

Double speed in electric terrain which already provides it a 50% boost in electric damage? Might be nice in doubles. You could run a set with max sp.atk and hp to make it as bulky as possible with a modest nature and maybe something like a life orb. With no speed investment you'd still hit 512. With the combination of stab, life orb, and electric terrain neutral thunderbolt has 263 base power, if you could get rain up a neutral thunder has ~322 base power and is a serious option also. In comparison, Darmanitan's stab life orb sheer force Flare Blitz has base power 304 I think.

Alolan vulpix and nintails changed to ice type because as a fire type they would have to constantly be using energy to keep themselves warm so they Adapted to be able to survive the cold climates of the high mountain areas better.
Also my buddy found information saying that allan raichu's ability surge surfer allows the user's speed to double when electric terrain is active on the field (so electric swift swim)

I personally think that with all the Alolan types like Ninetails and Sandshrew that Pokemon is adding the whole "adaptation" thing to the game. It makes sense since the whole Charles Darwin survival of the fittest is exactly like what's happening to the Pokemon. Ninetails moved to the mountains, and due to the severe cold weather they were forced to adapt and change to ice types or die out. It's how Polar Bears were formed in the wild. A brown bear gave birth to a bear with a mutated gene that gave them white, and more fur one point back in the day, and that bear became the first polar bear. It seems weird at first but it definitely adds more depth to Pokemon because it's something that's happening in the real world.
Y'all know what I think? I think that Whishiwashi's Schooling ability will make it gain higher evasiveness... I mean think about it- a school of fish swim around all fast and stuff when predators appear, and it makes it hard for them to choose a single target to eat on.
The same thing applies here.... The Schooling ability will make the large amount of fish appear, making the Evasion stat rise by at least one, since the real Wishiwashi is hidden amongst the many other fish..... Just a thought ^^'

If you read the official website there is Pokedex info explaining why every official Alolan Pokemon has adapted and it makes perfect sense why the changes. Below are a few and no these are not word for word. I am explaining it from memory.
The Vulpix line we're brought to Alola by humans. They moved into the icy mountains to avoid the natural habitats of native Pokemon. Living in seclusion on a holy mountain they became emissaries of the mountain, no longer being able to withstand hotter temperatures. The gentle nature of their evolved form, Ninetails, has lead to humans being rescued when in distress.
The Sandshrew line moved from the desert into the icy mountains to escape volcanic eruption. Over time their claws hardened to steel and their bodies adapted to the cold climate.
Exeggutur is in it's true form and only is as we previously knew him due to a lack of sunlight in all previous regions.
Alolan Meowth was bred by the total family to form this new varient of the Pokemon line.
Marowak is based on a fire knife dancer. It dances with its weapon to Ward off it's enemies. It is a show of strength against it's arch enemy. The Pokedex does not state what the arch enemy is but I do know that these dances also showed (in real life) that the warrior is not afraid of death but really is a way to be brave in the face of death because the warrior often was a little afraid. Since Cubone was badlybaffected by it's mother being taken away by death, an enemy that most Pokemon cannot defeat, it makes sense for the line to have developed a culture such as this given what it means culturally in real life.

How about this. Raichu used to be electric/psychic type and had a happy nature. When some of them migrate into other regions, they were abused by those bug types. That's why they dropped the psychic type and had a tougher nature.
I guess Raichu gaining the Psychic-type is a way to show it can control its electricity. Look at Pikachu in the Anime, there's a few episodes where Pikachu can just call out a lightning bolt by accident.
If this Raichu is a surfer, calling a lightning while surfing would be dangerous to anything around it.

I'll be honest, never cared for Raichu. Pickachu is adorable and now we have an adorable Raichu, I'm actually happy.
I think the reasoning behind Raichu being psychic isn't because it's smart, but because it allows him to levitate off the ground by telekinetically pushing off liquid and solid surfaces (which is the reason he's floating on his tail), so it's now able to travel from island to island, eating different foods on different islands and allowong for any necessary migration to be possible.
Knowing this info there is probably an Item that lets Pokemon that evolve into alolan form turn into what they normally were...or prevents them from evolving into an Alolan Pokemon but lets it evolve into its normal form.
How the fish pokemon works: At low levels it wont transform into its giant fish counterpart during battle. But When it reaches a certain level, it`ll transform mid-battle.
I'm assuming Wishiwashi abilities allow it to change into it's school form when it attacks and change back in it's turn ends. I think any water type moves triggers it or an "evolution" type move.
Alola form Raichu could be a tribute to the surfing Pikachu "Puka" of the first Pokemon series that had some sort of psychic power and it surfed. That would explain the psychic typing .
Wishiwashi works probably similar to how Zygarde works, where multiples form up to create something more powerful but for a limited time. Probably will be more pokemon like this.

Maybe the pikachus of Alola grew so close to the people, they grew a 6th sense to bond with their trainers to a new level or they made an artificial Thunderstone or something.

So random theory here but.. Since execute evolves to executor with a leaf stone maybe they evolve without a stone in the alola region without a stone... So the same would go for pikachu it normally evolves to Raichu with a thunder stone so in the Alola region it evolves by level.... Just a thought on how they could get away with having non-alola pikachu and execute evolve into Alola forms
the raichu aloha form is based of the Puka from the anime (the surfing pikachu) as it's surfing on its tail, and the blues eyes are similar as well as well its similar psychic power to predict when the waves were coming in that episode.
In the trailer that showed Alolan Exeggutor, it evolved from a regular Exeggcute.
I really wish they'd give Lilligant an additional Fairy-Typing. She's perfect for it, and admittedly my fave so I'm a bit biased. Lilligant love needed.

Still, I'm glad that Raichu was even _acknowledged._ The poor guy never gets any love at all ever since they upped its base stats by 10 or so a long while back.
Sucks that Psychic isn't too hot of a secondary type for Electric; in fact it's a straight up burden (3 new weaknesses and no offensive help against things that already contest Electric type? Meh..), but I can see some cool difference to it's moveset and possibly stats due to this.

Maybe Raichus had a problem with being hunted in Alola and the smartest Raichus were the ones that learned to surf away from predators on their tails so they survived and passed on their smart gene? Could explain the Psychic typing, who knows.

I think the Alolan Raichu is related to Puka. That blue eyed Pikachu that was able to sense the waves. Its eyes reminded me of that plus the Surfing Pikachu. Now we have a surfing Raichu that adapted to that sensing waves hence the Psychic typing.

Just saw how Pyukumuku will be used competitively if it doesn't get an evolution. Focus sash, pain split, then let it die. You absorb enough health from them so that when you get knocked out you either kill them or get them super low.
when ever i see alolan raichu's blue eyes, it makes me think back to the anime with the old man and the surfing pikachu that had blue eyes and a connection to the see.

I got a theory. Shady said it best. When you think of original Pokemon you think Pikachu and Meowth. From the dawn of time (and by time I think anime), it's been those two fighting against eachother. Meowth is bad. Pikachu is good.
So Meowth just got his type changed to dark. So I can totally see why pikachu just so happened to be given a type that is the counter to the dark type

Mellow has a Pretty Pink Flower in her hair, Kiawe has Marowak, Sophocles has a Electrode Keychain,Pikachu tail scarf and some kind of Electronic Pikachu Device or Pika Computer and Lana pants are Blue and a very interesting water design on her bottom of her pants! It sort of reminds me of a Pokemon in Kalos Region! I'm Talking about the Pokemon Honedge Steel/Ghost Type Pokemon, there's a similar to Trial Captain Lana Pants!
Since pikachu and meowth are opposites (numbers in the dex) do you think Alohan persian would be Dark/Ground? Even being a pure Dark type it is still opposite and stronger then the Raichu.
