Man, I remember how playing this level was pure childlike wish-fulfillment. I always wanted to run the Battle of Endor and take down Star Destroyers, but no game ever did it before this. As a kid, I always wondered why fighters never did like in the movie and hit the two bulbs above the bridge, and then blow up the bridge to take the destroyer out, but this game has you do exactly that, and it made me giddy with glee!
also you're forgetting the shields will include the generators in it, so only shields that have taken a bettering or have failed/ran out of energy already can be attacked anyways really unless you're using torpedoes or missiles
This game was ahead of it’s time. I liked the first installment for n64 but this is what truly got me into the entire saga, as in really into the backstories and missions you don’t see in the movies. Great game.

It's a really great way to beat the 5th level in the game, because it doesn't count against your lives lost. My only problem I used to have was getting 10 kills on a B Wing. It's not great at dog fights

I'd pay full price for a total remake and port of this game to PC and current gen consoles. Truly one of the best Star Wars games out, perfectly capturing the atmosphere and attitude that all of the fans feel when watching these movie battles on screen. From the music and sound effects, the aesthetic, the voices. Hell, even the way the TIE fighters behave IE swarm tactics and always flying in perfect formations is true to the Star Wars universe. It's insane how games like this aren't made anymore. The holders of the Star Wars IP has been sitting on a fucking goldmine all these years, with games like this to draw inspiration from, and they STILL can't deliver what the fans truly want.

He was ordered to leave by his acting CO. His X-wing was damaged in the engines; the reasonable conclusion of "can't stay with you" is literal and his fighter can't keep up with Luke and Biggs or could not maneuver safely and was as much a potential menace to them as the TIEs. It's also possible pulling out of the trench was a gamble to see if the TIEs would follow; as we see in ROTJ, this tactic can work.
All I cam remember feom this mission is Lando repeating "We've gotta buy more time...we've gotta buy more time...we've gotta buy more time" over and over every 30 seconds.
Damn, this games really doesn't even look that dated. Of course, at the time, it was unbelievable. Really wish that the trilogy compilation for Wii didn't fall through, and hopefully we can get a truly amazing, fun, non-buggy, HD Rouge Squadron IV eventually.
There was a planed remake of the whole trilogy for the wii, with extra features, including a duel mode with the lightsabers, similar to the swordfight of wii sports resort, sadly it was all canceled
When I won the gold medal in the Battle of Endor, I used a Y-wing with a spread bomb. When the TIE bomber first appears in a dense form, you can shoot down a large number of bombers in an interesting way by throwing a spread bomb at it. Call it "Tetsuzo Iwamoto Strategy". And with Spread Proton Bombs, Star Destroyer can be used to destroy the top two shield generators. It's also highly durable, so if you do it, you won't be shot down.

I have this game for the Nintendo GameCube and I have to say this level is extremely difficult fighting all those Tie-Fighters and Tie-Bombers while trying to protect the ships at the same time and it's even more annoying trying to take out the Star Destroyers without getting killed at the same time.
It blows my mind that the best Star Wars games are so old and didn't get made for last gen. I get why a new Battlefront fell through because of the company going under, and why Rouge Squadron was gone after Factor 5 made the crapfest Lair, but in a span on 11 years (?) Harrison DuRant TFU 1 I had a lot of fun with, I took my time and found all the secrets so I think I got 15 hours out of my first play through (it helped thinking it was canon.) 2 was way to short and now the neither is canon I can't even play them. The Old Republic is really fun if you like MMO's, the launch sucked, but the game got much better just 2 months after release and has improved so much its the only mmo I can still play. The Lego Star Wars game are all fun. And that is it in the last 11 years that I enjoy or enjoyed.The golden age of Star Wars games was 1995-2005, lets hope with the new movies we can see another golden age.
Rogue Squadron and Battlefront (the good ones) were my life when it came to Star Wars gaming. Sad to see the new Battlefront and how underwhelming it was/is.
I'm watching this right now and when the TIE fighters come in the first 2 things that jumped into my head were, "wow this is a gold run with that spray and pray... holy crap they must not have done the high accuracy thing in Rogue Squadron II (admittedly, I haven't played the game in probably close onto 15 years). " The second thought was, "I miss being able to link the lasers to fire in quad bursts."

Actually, you didn't have to spam the laser cannons. If you timed your shots, you could fire in pairs or with all four cannons (for the X-wing) every time, and each shot was more powerful as a result.
Well, you could do quite well without spamming the lasers; the person who's playing clearly could not figure out how to use the control stick without going from 0 to 100, and actually aiming
I remember I figured out a trick to where if you had a Y-wing you could go under the star destroyer, invert and bomb the shield generator underneath pretty easily. This is one of the best games ever, one of the best Star Wars games ever.

This is one of my favorite star wars games ever, and my favorite level as well. The fact they got the Dennis Lawso. To reprise the role of Wedge Antilles made it even better
I remember my dad buying us the Gamecube for the reason that I wanted this game so bad. I played the demo at Walmart and fell in love. I've always been a nerd when it comes to the SW franchise. This game for it's day had incredible graphics that matched some ps3 games. There's also another Star Wars game that came out after this one and it has this game as a bonus you play it all over again but you get the two player mode.

William The Derp Basically the rebel alliance is throwing everything they have at destroying the death star and killing the emperor, so they are taking every single ship they can find. Also it meant that Industrial light and magic didn't have to think up new ship designs.
William The Derp Simple, the Transport Ship is filled with Gungans and during missions if a Republic Fleet were to encounter a Exogorth the Rebels would fly the Transport ship into the Belly of the Astro Worm hoping to satisfy its hunger and saving the rest of the fleet.
I remember when I did the co-op campaign with my bro in Rogue Squadron 3 and we did this mission. I went like "No, we're not getting the gold" Gets best ever "huh, I was half-right"

Nice try, you already had a gold medal before you did that. You need *at least* 60 enemy kills, 31% accuracy and 80% targeting computer efficiency to get the gold medal here.

I have this game for the Nintendo GameCube and I have to say this level is extremely difficult fighting all those Tie-Fighters and Tie-Bombers while trying to protect the ships at the same time and it's even more annoying trying to take out the Star Destroyers without getting killed at the same time.

It blows my mind that the best Star Wars games are so old and didn't get made for last gen. I get why a new Battlefront fell through because of the company going under, and why Rouge Squadron was gone after Factor 5 made the crapfest Lair, but in a span on 11 years (?) You could have made SOMETHING. ANYTHING similar to those two games. All we got were those crappy Force Unleashed games.

cloudyyo No. I will never ease up on TFU. It's awful. It took me like 6 hours to beat the first one and like 5 to beat the second. You're just stupidly overpowered. It's the same thing from start to finish. Push stormtroopers everywhere and then slice them with your lightsaber. Those games were awful. Go play Jedi Outcast if you want a real Jedi game.

Harrison DuRant TFU 1 I had a lot of fun with, I took my time and found all the secrets so I think I got 15 hours out of my first play through (it helped thinking it was canon.) 2 was way to short and now the neither is canon I can't even play them. The Old Republic is really fun if you like MMO's, the launch sucked, but the game got much better just 2 months after release and has improved so much its the only mmo I can still play. The Lego Star Wars game are all fun. And that is it in the last 11 years that I enjoy or enjoyed.The golden age of Star Wars games was 1995-2005, lets hope with the new movies we can see another golden age.

Rogue Squadron and Battlefront (the good ones) were my life when it came to Star Wars gaming. Sad to see the new Battlefront and how underwhelming it was/is.
I'm watching this right now and when the TIE fighters come in the first 2 things that jumped into my head were, "wow this is a gold run with that spray and pray... holy crap they must not have done the high accuracy thing in Rogue Squadron II (admittedly, I haven't played the game in probably close onto 15 years). " The second thought was, "I miss being able to link the lasers to fire in quad bursts."
jesus christ, the memories... it's been more than 10 years since i last played this game i think... yet i restarted this mission so many times i istantly remember the manouvers and hearing those phrases...
One thinged that bugged me about this game was how you gotta spam the blasters, not a accurate burst of fire like in the movies
This is an arcade game, if you want more tactical gameplay of this type try X-Wing Alliance.

Actually, you didn't have to spam the laser cannons. If you timed your shots, you could fire in pairs or with all four cannons (for the X-wing) every time, and each shot was more powerful as a result.
Not really. The Silver and Gold medals have very high accuracy requirement. So you'd have to control your fire.
Well, you could do quite well without spamming the lasers; the person who's playing clearly could not figure out how to use the control stick without going from 0 to 100, and actually aiming

I remember I figured out a trick to where if you had a Y-wing you could go under the star destroyer, invert and bomb the shield generator underneath pretty easily.
This is one of the best games ever, one of the best Star Wars games ever.
Such a great game. Those who did not own a gamecube missed out on this amazing game. Loved the Rogue Squadron Series! I still play it on my gamecube to this day!

I remember my dad buying us the Gamecube for the reason that I wanted this game so bad. I played the demo at Walmart and fell in love. I've always been a nerd when it comes to the SW franchise. This game for it's day had incredible graphics that matched some ps3 games. There's also another Star Wars game that came out after this one and it has this game as a bonus you play it all over again but you get the two player mode.

William The Derp Basically the rebel alliance is throwing everything they have at destroying the death star and killing the emperor, so they are taking every single ship they can find. Also it meant that Industrial light and magic didn't have to think up new ship designs.
William The Derp Simple, the Transport Ship is filled with Gungans and during missions if a Republic Fleet were to encounter a Exogorth the Rebels would fly the Transport ship into the Belly of the Astro Worm hoping to satisfy its hunger and saving the rest of the fleet.
