+Mike Jones More like, "What the fuck part of I'M ALREADY ON MY WAY OUT don't you understand?" The follow me is hilarious since in the game and in the film Wedge says I'm already on my way out, and Wedge also got out first.
This is seriously the most perfect final level for this game imho. It's challenging as hell in a good sort of way: It tests you on the first segment in keeping your cool under fire and keeping your shots straight. The second part tests your aim when needing to also make tight maneuvers, then the final stretch: "Alright, cowboy. Let's see how you REALLY handle that ship!"
Oh, right, because the escape sequence after defeating Andross on hard difficulty in Star Fox 64 was ripped straight from Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
This was a great final level. I remember being a kid playing this and finally beating it, was awesome. At one point I was really good at this level, could beat it every time I played it. Now I suck at it
4:14 More like, Lando: Wedge, let's get the F*ck outta here...I got more heat on my @ss right now than ol'fish-face Akbar shoutin at me for gettin outta line! Wedge: Copy that, Gold Leader.
I was never able to finish this level. After the main reactor was destroyed, I always either got engulfed by the explosion or smashed the X-Wing into the tunnel.
"Your overconfidence is your's (weakness)" - Luke Skywalker. You see if that were true then those fucking turrets on the Death Star probably wouldn't be online right now.
Your accuracy was to low to earn a gold medal on this mission. The game does not allow you to see the gold medal requirements once you already earned a gold medal. It simply shows you the gold medal you have earned and your stats. The complete requirements for this mission were: Time=5:05 Enemies Destroyed=41 Accuracy=32% Friendlies Lost=0 Lives Lost=1 Targeting Computer Efficiency=95%
Michael Richmond Granted those are non-canon, I'm guessing that most authors kept him alive because the films always kept him alive. Though it doesn't explain why they killed off Chewbacca in the Expanding Universe comics...
I just bought, played, and beat this game/level. This game is a masterpiece. What an amazing week of gameplay. Love the first Rogue squadron, so bought this and Rebel strike on whim, best 30$ i spent Ina while. Never had the GameCube, got a wii tho :-p anyway... i miss these challenging arcade types. This level is a testament to these classic challenge worthy/bang for your buck games... this level took me a few hours to lock down...still have 4 bonuses levels👍🏻so To make a long story short (too late..).. ...This shit rules. May the force be with you 🙃
I never understood it, either. One reason I could think of is that it would loop easier, but on the first mission (Death Star Attack) only the original recordings were used-even looped. Another reason could be that there was no space on the disc for more CD music anymore. A final reason could be the sound designers to show off how “real” their MusyX system sounds compared to John Williams’s score, but that would be a lame reason-even for that time..
I liked it. And it's not MIDI, it's just an ordinary track but synthisised and exported. AS far as I see it's an element of suprise on first walkthrough. And it gets more tension with the music changing from what expected to unexpected.
It's not MIDI. This track is in same form as the others. And they did have enough space. The thing is that this mission is in co-op of RSIII where all melodies are orchestrated and we have two games (RSIII and RSII Co-op) on the same 1.4GB disk as the original RSII recorded. So it's was maybe financical reasons (rearragin is cheaper than using recorded song) or the others as I said above.
Parker Hetzel , yes. But let's not forget that exported means one thing: the sound is in sound file, not MIDI. So this is not definately 'cause of the lesser space, when the synth is exported in ordinary sound files. I know it seems not true to the definition of MIDI. But for me MIDI score is then it's played as MIDI. If not, it's sythisised. This is just ordinary among gamers. That's all.
I could never finish this level with the Millennium Falcon. X-wing I would do just fine, but I would always get shot down with the Falcon. Maybe I should find a GameCube and give it another go
i did and HOOO BOY lemme tell ya. it was a nightmare. the millennium falcon flies like brick and is a giant target.if you manage to get the core taken out, or hell, survive the tie fighters, your going to have a VERY fun time trying to steer in the vent shaft to and from the core. at the sacrofice to your accuracy, the bottom turret turns around to shoot the enemies behind you but only while your firing, so dont expect to get any medals here.
I remember discovering a little cheat with this level. If I stayed just enough ahead in the first part without getting too far ahead, I didn't have to worry about loosing Lando or Wedge (depending on who I played) to the Tie Interceptors. For some reason, they didn't get destroyed, even though I was ignoring the chasing Tie Interceptors.
This mission was actually more difficult in the cooperative version (from Rogue Squadron III), since someone would get stuck flying the Falcon every time. I also once accidentally shot my friend down with the Falcon's rear turret when I was trying to shoot a TIE fighter behind me.
And the guy who plays Wedge decides against coming back, sadly... >.> strangely... >.> *conspicuously* enough. It's no real big deal. The actor himself knew that Wedge was just an extra character who never dies. So he knew he'd get bored of the role if he reprised it in the upcoming film.
I could beat this level by myself; no problem. Try beating this level on Rogue Squadron III co-op with a complete idiot who doesn't understand the theory of the inverted control stick in flying games. Let me know how long it takes for you to lose your sanity. By the way, what do you use to record Gamecube games?
And on this day we remember the thousands of brave Imperial soldiers and airmen who lost their lives protecting their country against the insurgent force...
L'Atelier Grigorian Ah okay. And yeah, I remember back in the day that the devs were praised for the amount of polygons they were able to squeeze out of the hardware to make the graphics good.
Who used to give it a - 'that was to close' when flying the falcon, me and a friend did every time haha Did this in co-op level a million times with a uni friend and never made it - used to fail as the blaze came out of nowhere. Always wondered if you just had to keep flying straight as the blaze surrounded you :(
You are exactly right. We used the whole keyboard to control the Falcon. AND a control pad! I can't see how this is challenging at all. Spoon-fed I think. Puts the enemies right in front of you. Video games are so easy nowadays.
Most unbeatable level ever put into a game. Instant lose every fucking time. I get blown up & so does the falcon. No strategy that can be used. A 300 aircraft job given to 2 aircraft. At least the battlefront games dont expect 1 man to do the work of a hundred
God, what I wouldn't give to be flying the Falcon instead of an escort mission. Terrible design, we just had nothing better, and we still don't. Very sad this is the best we got. The falcon is made of tissue paper that is already on fire when the level starts and you get about five seconds before it's dead. There's challenging, and then there's just cruel and ridiculous game design. Not to mention you can't keep speed with it and to speed up YOU HAVE TO SHUT OFF YOUR GUNS.
LOL
"Wedge, follow me...we gotta escape before..."
"Yeah, good luck with that. See ya later, sucker!"
Left Lando so fast he even dropped off of radar before the end, lol.
Nicely done. Always wanted to do this mission as a Y-Wing, until I remembered one has to outrun that explosion in the last part...
Y-wing is the same sunlight speed as the falcon, roughly.
4:14
Lando: Wedge, follow--
Wedge: I AM GETTING THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!

The follow me is hilarious since in the game and in the film Wedge says I'm already on my way out, and Wedge also got out first.
3Rayfire I know right. Lando was busy flying the Cadilac. Meanwhile Wedge has a Porsche 911 and just dipped past him saying, "You tripping bru."
In Wedge's defense, he did get out first in the movie.
This looks like the perfect Star Wars space battle game, if only they'd have something like this in the new Battlefront!
exactly. Battlefront 2 is very superb game but the admosphere in this old school game makes it just perfect, which bf2 is missing.
Beast moding this in cockpit only made me feel like an absolute badass.

the best part is when you do it in the millennium falcon
Lord Dio! Anyone who can do it in the Millennium Falcon deserves praise because I could never do the tunnel portion well in it.
DominionWolf Praise away, I, Dio deserve every bit of it
Lord Dio! Did anyone here try unlocking the Buick? Makes things a bit too easy, though.
Lord Dio! Did anyone here try unlocking the Buick? Makes things a bit too easy, though.
Luke: "Don't ever give up my son"
Wedge: "Father?"
Luke: "Follow me, wedge..."
Luke: "This way, wedge"
Luke: "Never give up. Trust your instincts"
Oh, right, because the escape sequence after defeating Andross on hard difficulty in Star Fox 64 was ripped straight from Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
"You've become so strong, Wedge."
@PokeJediTrek, it was inspired by Star wars
This was a great final level. I remember being a kid playing this and finally beating it, was awesome. At one point I was really good at this level, could beat it every time I played it. Now I suck at it
Real men beat the Falcon out
IG_42 Wedge was the first one out of the Death Star in the movie.
4:14 More like,
Lando: Wedge, let's get the F*ck outta here...I got more heat on my @ss right now than ol'fish-face Akbar shoutin at me for gettin outta line!
Wedge: Copy that, Gold Leader.
My man - two torpedoes into the regulator, just like the film. Nicely done.
I was never able to finish this level. After the main reactor was destroyed, I always either got engulfed by the explosion or smashed the X-Wing into the tunnel.
The key is to keep your S-foils closed, but to decelerate and accelerate when it's appropriate.
Back when Games where Fun.
That synthesized music in the escape from the Death Star
This Game is from like 15 years ago but it's still got it. What consoles are this game on?
The Nintendo Gamecube.
Gamecube exclusive release. But you can use any controller and any button mapping you want if you're using the Gamecube Emulator Dolphin.
"Your overconfidence is your's (weakness)" - Luke Skywalker.
You see if that were true then those fucking turrets on the Death Star probably wouldn't be online right now.
This is without a doubt one of the best video games of all time. Make something like this for Xbox One!!!
Rebel Strike was better.
I never played rebel strike. I need to buy a Super Nintendo, an N64, a GameCube, and the original Playstation. Then I can go back to a better place
+Avoozl it had the horrific on-foot sections though.
The bane of my childhood.
this level is hell!!! to this day, i've only beaten it once, and that was though sheer dumb luck.
Battle of Endor is definitely the best in all of Star Wars

I remember this bastard of a level. I got gold and showed it who the fucking force was with.
And Wedge will never die! ...Oddly enough.
C PT The odds of that is impossible, even for a computer, and Han Solo isn't interesting in being told them.
Michael Richmond Granted those are non-canon, I'm guessing that most authors kept him alive because the films always kept him alive. Though it doesn't explain why they killed off Chewbacca in the Expanding Universe comics...
You play as Wedge? that shit is insane!!!!
+Dante Trevisan It's even voiced by the actor from the movie.
+Dante Trevisan You can play as Lando in the _Falcon_ if you want. I think you have to beat it first as Wedge, though.
+Dante Trevisan You play as Luke until he loses his gunner during Hoth. Then the rest of the missions are as Wedge.
this mission is freaking merciless i cant last more than 30 seconds, which is similar to my experience in other areas of life as well *shifty eyes*

Great mission, but I don't get why during the way in the music is Orchestral, but on the way out it's that goofy midi sounding stuff.
I never understood it, either. One reason I could think of is that it would loop easier, but on the first mission (Death Star Attack) only the original recordings were used-even looped. I honestly believe this level should've been about speed instead of fighting off tie fighters. It would've made the level much more challenging.
Sometimes no words are necessary...Gold medal dude! And some of those missile hits you landed on the TIEs were sick!
As Danger Mouse would say "This might require some fancy driving!"
I remember discovering a little cheat with this level. That game is beautiful.
Its more difficult with the Falcon than the X-wing in the core.
and then came Episode VII lol
And the guy who plays Wedge decides against coming back, sadly... >.> strangely... >.> *conspicuously* enough. It's no real big deal. The actor himself knew that Wedge was just an extra character who never dies. So he knew he'd get bored of the role if he reprised it in the upcoming film.
Michael Richmond lol
Split Dimension Wedge is too good for the sequels.
I pretend it never happened and Legends is the real timeline. So then came The Truce at Bakura
I could beat this level by myself; no problem. Try beating this level on Rogue Squadron III co-op with a complete idiot who doesn't understand the theory of the inverted control stick in flying games. Let me know how long it takes for you to lose your sanity.

#humblebrag
The fucking falcon is a bitch in this level.
DominionWolf, I agree. The true gamers 'Pilot's Seat'! Thanks Gamer JGB
The final boss isn't the core, it's those tunnels.
This level is hard as hell.
The Naboo star fighter was the best.
+uppercaset12345 The car was the best!
I finally beat it today! 🎉🎉🎉😔😔😔
out of all the rouge squadron games, this one certainly had the best final level.
Maybe if the falcon wasn't made of tissue paper. Restarting in five seconds fifteen times is not fun to me.
@@fusionspace175 It's not breeze with the X-wing either.
I really hope the Wii U gets Gamecube games on the Virtual Console, I'd love to see this game again in a (slightly) higher resolution.
5:24
YEEEE-HAAAAWWWW!!!!!
This version makes the Super Return of the Jedi end level look like level 1 of Super Mario.
LOL good move in and out let Death Star destoryer
Wesa free!!
Thank god they cut that part out.
Trey Owen that part hadn’t been added in yet. They didn’t add that scene until the 2004 DVD release of the trilogy.
Congratulations, Rebel.
this level has been pissing me off for about 3 weeks now
And on this day we remember the thousands of brave Imperial soldiers and airmen who lost their lives protecting their country against the insurgent force...
1:04 best pain indicator of any game ever
this level kicked my ass SO many times. i was so releived to beat the fucking thing
Ps3/Ps4 remake !
And?
All systems remake
I remember failing a lot on this mission because it was hard for me to keep the fighters off of the Falcon.
I don't get why they use scenes from the films, but they did dialogue with their own voice actors.
L'Atelier Grigorian Ah okay.
And yeah, I remember back in the day that the devs were praised for the amount of polygons they were able to squeeze out of the hardware to make the graphics good.
I played this when this came out and I’m barely noticing you can repair your ship?!!! Also what did that radar upgrade do? Lol
They should have this in battlefront 2
The most fucktarded mission out of a game that if mostly fucktarded missions.
i want a remake so bad
Good job! You're almost as skilled as I am.
I'd still rather play the 1970s arcade.
Who used to give it a - 'that was to close' when flying the falcon, me and a friend did every time haha
Did this in co-op level a million times with a uni friend and never made it - used to fail as the blaze came out of nowhere. Always wondered if you just had to keep flying straight as the blaze surrounded you :(
This is my favorite mission
Don't know how you make it look so goddamn easy.
A level that was way too hard! (But excellent because of it.)
I think X-Wing Alliance's version is a lot lot harder. I had to try like 40 times to get it right.
You are exactly right. We used the whole keyboard to control the Falcon. AND a control pad! I can't see how this is challenging at all. Spoon-fed I think. Puts the enemies right in front of you. Video games are so easy nowadays.
6:10 "WEEZA FREE!!!"
I've done this entire run with S-Foils locked
How the hell did this guy get a gold medal when I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve attempted this level and fucken failed
Great Job!
Where was that scream coming from at 1:05 ?
Most unbeatable level ever put into a game. Instant lose every fucking time.
I get blown up & so does the falcon. No strategy that can be used.
A 300 aircraft job given to 2 aircraft.
At least the battlefront games dont expect 1 man to do the work of a hundred
Get good.
I never could understand why they make the y wing and x wings slow.
Maneuverability. All the speed in the galaxy won't mean diddly if you can't even control it
that and the Y- wing has a huge emphasis on being a bomber ship primarily, so it's weighed down, and has a really fucking good sheied to compensate
Tyler Morelock the naboo bomber is a speedy bomber, it cant take hits, but it can dodge em really well
Tyler Morelock its alot faster than the y-wing
I died so many tmes on this level it wast funny finally on my 30th i did it n got silver
I never managed to do this. Too many lasers.
It be sick if they remade this game with better graphics
Cool

Some of these turns are impossible due to the laws of physics.
Just saying. >.>
+Trinexx360 When has Star Wars cared about the laws of Physics?
