Yeah my dog won't do it. She violently shakes her head and won't let me. I've tried everything and no way can I get the pills into her x I'm so worried
This can be a bad idea depending on the medicine. I did this with a dog and doxycycline, and the problem is: the antibiotic is extremely harsh and actually damaged the dog's throat. A lot of antibiotics in pill form are coated to prevent damage to the tissues of the mouth and throat. If you are going to do this you have to syringe a whole lot of water into the dog after the medicine. And even then you might be hurting the dog's throat.
Here in the UK, there is a meat extract paste used for making beef drinks, called Bovril, similar in appearance to Marmite or Vegemite, but a little bit runnier. We cut a dog strip treat into squares, and then pick up the dog's pill with tweezers, dunk it completely in the bovril paste, then place it on the treat. Our labrador dog Penny will happily eat this. Prior to this we tried several other ways of disguising the tablets but all these attempts were unsuccessful. Hope this helps.
Over all the decades of owning dogs, we have used all these techniques, except the chicken/turkey heart method, which I find an unnecessary extreme method and not worth the effort. We mix up the methods of administering pills to keep the process fresh and different. Once you administer the pill/s, stroke the dog's throat to facilitate the swallowing reflex. The dog likes the attention and it makes certain the pill is swallowed successfully.
Why unnecessary and extreme? Food is food and if a dog likes it, it is no different than administering in a different choice of food. I think you're getting this method mixed up with your comment. Each to their own 😅
1. I have 3 months puppy. Capsule too big for her. So i put on the small spoon, then half dissolve it with water, then like video said, i give treat, praise and gentle, while i give treat, i pour out the water and half dissolve capsule inside her mouth, close her mouth and give gentle rub to her throat. Work like a charm!
Thanx for sharing this. I own two cats also. It's so easy to fool my dog with food. He eats any food with medicine in it without noticing it. But it's been impossible to fool my cat. They both can smell the medicine in it. But this pill gun looks interesting. I'll definitely try this and will share how it goes. Thank you again Monkoodog for sharing such helpful tips. 😊😊😊😊👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

So in the section of the video on methods for giving medications that can't be done with food, that dog got a handful of treats both before and after the pill. Kind of goes against the "no food" premise doesn't it?
I have found the best way for me to give my dogs their medication is to crush the pill and put it on a tablespoon, put honey over the crushed pill, and then mix it up into the honey. With liquid medicine, I do it the same way, on the tablespoon mixed up with honey. My dogs will gladly lap it up every time. Do check to make sure it isn't a time-release medication before doing this trick. When I had big dogs that mostly just swallowed their food instead of chewing it first, I would insert the pill into a hot dog or wrap a piece of cheese around the pill. It would work with any soft food you can hide it in. Now I have small dogs who chew everything. I tried every way possible to get them to take a pill and this is the only way that works every time and is so easy!
Well my dad it works for him we put my dogs pill in the middle of his food bowl since it’s like a food bowl that has a maze he put it in the middle on the little circle and then when my dog eats his food he’ll eat that as well and he won’t just go around it and other times we sneak it in food
What's this little maze that you speak of? I'm having so much trouble getting my Nelly to take her meds. Would love to have more information on this maze that your Dad has thanks:)
I have aggressive dog , first time the direct oral method works but that trick not effective anymore after few days, my dog need a week medication of antibiotics And I am out of idea how to give that medicine
There is no other way to give your dog medicine other than directly with the help of a pill injector. Because pills/medicines are bitter and even if you add them or hide them inside any of his favorite food, he'll know what's inside. So use the direct giving from hand trick but use the pill injector not your hands, and try to put on muzzle and then give the medicine. May be it works. Otherwise the only last option you have is take your dog to vet and get antibiotics injections to your dog.

for those who has small dog like my chihuahua. he/she may be just too good at separating the food and the pill. Here is my trick: Give the dog something really tasty, mouth-watering. Then right after it took that last bite, grab your dog's mouth and force open it. Throw in the pill and hold its mouth shut. The dog's mouth is still full of saliva. It has no choice but to swallow due to reflexes. It works for me really well.
Nothing works for our miniature dachshund (15 years old, blind from birth, rescue dog). He is a magician, even if you do this or other tricks and feed him more nice food before and after the pill, you check his lips and can't find the pill. You know he swallowed and you think he ate it - after 30min, he will just spit out the tablet or capsule! No clue how he does it. I will buy a pill gun now for pills I cannot administer in liquid suspension...wish us luck. It does not help that he is allergic against peanut butter, cereal and beef, lost the trust in most cheese or chicken through medication (delicacy cat treats from chicken is now our last resort).
How that work, you show the method that tablets have to be taken on a empty stomach but your giving the dog treats while taking the tablet, don't understand that bit , as my dog is on denamarin supplements for his Iiver and have to be taken on a empty stomach and finding it really hard , he's going to be traumatised after 6 weeks of this ...

Well, it totally depends on your dog. If you can make them fool easily, then you can give them any medicine but if they aren't easy to get fool with food then you have to make them take their medicine on by getting physical with them.
You are o so correct 😢💪😖 I'm @ pill gun with peanut butter on end of gun and on finger's using to pry her mouth open. (Finger's with 1 sweater glovee covered by rubber glove. And now getting to the point I can't even get her mouth pryed open. My last dog, may she rest in peace. Gave me hell with pills. And she took a lot of them her last year. And my new girl is just as bad if not worse😠. We've been through all of the tricks. I guess that means they're fairly smart. Yes they catch on quick. But I could pry my last dog's mouth open but this one she's a lot more stubborn and I'm at my wit's end.

My dog chews the food and spits out the pill!
Mine too! He's a deliberate eater and really examines what's in his mouth. It's difficult giving him pills he doesn't like.
Exactly
Then don’t give pill with food try to directly put in mouth.Keep close dog mouth then gently rub neck so they can swallow it easily
Mine too😮
Same
The pill is really challenging esp when my dog is a biting dog.
Dude I loved the nom nom nom sound effect! Hilarious!
With the... Mmmmmmmmmm.
😂
That nom nom sound effects is hella funny, but my dog doesn't nom nom he just spits it right out. This is a little challenging.
1. Crush pill (get drs approval to crush pills first)
2. Dissolve in a few drops of water
3. Administer with oral syringe
Hmmm, I believe that's possiblity the ONLY method I have not tried. Thank You
Yeah my dog won't do it. She violently shakes her head and won't let me. I've tried everything and no way can I get the pills into her x I'm so worried

What a good dog this pup is in the video. Awesome
My dog still just finds the pill and launches it across the room. 😔
The dog munching sounds effects are the best 😂😂😂
My dog's fav is liver- even when mixed in that, she licks n spits out the meds.

My dog smells everything no food works
our vet recommended cream cheese on a little piece of bread and that works great for our mid size boy.

Should I feed liver tonic before or after the meal for my dog ? And also can we mix it with yogurt or milk ?
