    It may work for your dog but NOT my beagle. He seems to smell the meds regardless of what food I disguise it with. Doxycycline must have some kind of medicine smell. I've tried xheese, hot dogs bacon, you name it but if the pill is in it or wrapped in it, he will NOT eat the pill.

      Hi there, I'm in the exact same boat as you. My little bichon is just as difficult. I'm just wondering if you have any tips for me to get her to take her heart meds. Did you find anything that worked? Thank you so much 🙏

      @@user-jl8mc8xf4r Hello, I hadn't found an easy way for my dog to seat the Doxy but the last time I fed him the doxy, I delayed his normal feeding cycle to hopefully get him super hungry then I smothered the Doxy in his food and he ate it once but then it did not work a second time. I told the vet and the vet just said, give him what he'll take which I managed to get 1 tablet into him but that wa it. He would take no more from that moment forward. So, I stopped the Doxy but he does and will eat his heartworm pills as long as I smother them in some home scraps thrown in with his regular dog feed. I wish you the very best trying to administer the heartworm meds. Ask your vet if there's a liquified heartworm med.

      Doxycycline is a really gross antibiotic (speaking from human experience). Hard on the stomach, and burps up the flavour. You can taste it on the way down your throat and it seems to linger. Poor pup. I’ve had meningitis too… I feel for this little dog.

So funny, and exhausting for me to find something that works. I have to keep Changing, I will sure try your method. Thank you!

    My Lhasa Apso saw me frying some beef liver one day. I hadn't had liver for years (my wife hates liver). The taste of it, the smell of it, the sight of it, even the idea of it. Needless to say, I had rarely ate liver, only when my wife was away. My Lhasa Apso, (may she rest in peace) on the other hand, loved liver and I shared a meal of it with her as often as possible and she never turned up her nose to it when it came "pill time".

    I was having a terrible time getting my senior chihuahua to take his meds. I tried using chicken livers since my dog is smaller and they were less expensive to try and it worked! I was close to taking him to the vet for IV treatment yesterday and now he is happily taking his meds al la liver!

    • @mexcellent227
      @mexcellent227 3 місяці тому

      @@mauriepotts9393 It worked like a charm for a few weeks and liver is great for your dogs but he's too smart for his own good and eventually started rejecting the chunks with meds in them.
      Great news though, I found my own fool proof way after weeks of worry and frustration.. SOFT GUMMY CANDY!
      One night I was so pissed (not at my dog just that nothing was working and his condition was worsening because of it) that I wrapped a pill in a airhead candy gummy and stuck it to the fur on his paw. Since I know when I take him on walks any little stick or dried leaf that gets on his paws he will refuse to move until he either gets it off or I take it off for him.. I feel like sensitive dogs like mine and picky eaters go hand in hand so I'm willing to bet this will work for you. And yes, it's human candy and not the best for dogs, just DO NOT get the sugar free stuff and it's fine. He hasn't missed a medicine in months since I found this trick out.
      So basically I pinch and roll a small piece of soft gummy candy between my fingers until it's squishy and then stick the pills and fully wrap them in the gummy. Then I stick it to the top of one of his paws. He'll then bite it off and eat it. They might spit it out a few times at first but just keep sticking it on and since it's a sticky tasty sweet candy they'll eventually eat it right up I promise. He hates it, it feels wrong doing it to him and it might get a little messy for both of you but hey, whatever it takes for life saving medicine.
      Now he knows the routine and it's only messy for me when I roll it by hand. I barely have to stick it hard on his paw nowadays, just squish it on and he grabs and swallows it in seconds. Takes less than 30 seconds now when before it'd be a grueling anxiety inducing fiasco.
      Sorry for the long winded response but I feel everyone's pain under these comments and I'm so glad I found a fool proof way, I hope it works for you!
      I'm really considering making a short video of this because it's the only thing thats worked for me and there's alot of people that could benefit from this method..

  • @jennybishop5159
    @jennybishop5159 7 днів тому

    My dog spits them out using this method in the video but what i do is crush the pills first, if you dont have a crusher then use the handle of you knife or fork and crunch it down to powder in a small bowl
    I use chicken nuggets for my dog. Fry or air fry tje nuggets. If you use air fry just cut up the cooked chicken in a small bowl. Pure the crushed pill over the chicken pieces then add a small amount of oil and mix. It works for my collie dog.Je has a heart condition. Never put whole 7:08 pills im their dog food as they won't eat it ever again. You need to pill them as ibe just explained. Good luck 👍 ❤

    My boston took many pills, multiple times a day the last few yrs of her life & what worked for me EVERY time is purchasing a can of any brand "cuts in gravy" dog food. I would spoon feed her a small bite or two first of the chunky food with gravy, then add the pill, coat it well in gravy and feed her the pill & another chunky bit with gravy & then lastly, a bite without pills to end the interaction .. so yum, yuck, yum. Easy peasy & took only seconds. One small can of that dog food would last several days covered & stored in the refrigerator.
