These are just great videos Andrew. I love your calm, loving and gentle humour about a colourful and complex city. A shout-out to your camera person- nice work hiding the distracting hair fixing gal outside of the book shop on Pirate's Alley- it was hard to concentrate until you did that. It was actually great to see her put on the mask- a little public service vignette! Thanks so much- keep these great videos coming. I feel like you are already trying to figure out a Treme tour. I know it's a bit spread out to shoot but getting some Vaughans footage would be great!
Confederacy of Dunces is one of my all time favorite books! I also read Butterfly in the Typewriter by Cory McLaughlin about JKT. Great tour. I just discovered you today! But, I live New Orleans and haven’t been able to visit for a while.
The most important book for New Orleans history buffs is “Intimate Enemies: The Two Worlds of the Baroness de Pontalba” by Christina Vella. How the French Quarter was built is the saga of one of history’s bravest women. She invented pre-fabricated section building for her matched apartments on either side of the Cathedral which she had rebuilt after the disastrous fire lof 1788.
The house on Esplanade & Chartres where the plaque for "12 years a slave" was located also was setting for the 1980's remake of "Cat People ". Love your videos.

Great video. The Originals was entirely set in New Orleans so I’m surprised so little is filmed there. Heck, Los Angeles is filmed in Vancouver or Toronto despite being the film capital.
The Gallier house was Lestat's house in Interview With the Vampire, S1. New Orleans looks stunning in that show. The "Ode To New Orleans", performed by Sam Reid, from a balcony, in the last episode. Omg! Anyone from New Orleans would cry watching that.

Hi, I just started watching your videos on You Tube this year and am hooked! I’m watching this one now and when you mentioned singing vendors in the French Market it reminded me of one trip we took to Nola about 10 years ago. We were leaving The Chateau Hotel packing up our car parked on the street and I started hearing a lady from a short distance singing and repeating “Pie Lady” “PIE LAAAADYYYYY” in a loud but lovely tone. Then she turned the corner onto our street and came towards us as we finished packing up the car. As she approached us with her cart, I asked her what she was doing - she was happy to stop and explained to us that she makes homemade pies and sells them in the streets Sunday mornings throughout the streets of the French Q. Then she said she was carrying on a tradition that her Creole ancestors had done for the past 200 years! Well, as you could imagine, I bought every pie she had left!!! She thanked us and said that we completed her day and she would then go home. I have tried to do my own research on her to see if she is still around but sadly can not find anything on her. Do you have any information on her? I would love to see a video on her if you do! OAN, I will be looking y’all up next time we’re in Nola! Y’all are wonderful tour guides and I’ve learned so much about NOLA and surrounding towns! Keep up the good work & God Bless! 🙏❤️ If you are able to personally respond to this pls email me at pjpc@rocketmail.com

Enjoy your videos. No one ever mentions Angel Heart when speaking about films associated with NOLA. Lesser-known movie, I know, but it always seemed to me that it dramatized the mythology of New Orleans very well. Anyway, again, appreciate your work. I always thought I was fairly well versed about the city, but you seem to always surprise me with information that reminds me that no one knows as much as he thinks he does. Peace.

The film “Hard Times” with Charles Bronson, James Coburn, and Strother Martin had scenes filmed in New Orleans. I’d like to see you cover that one for next time. I particularly like the scene where Speed and Chaney are haggling with each other on the balcony of one of the buildings which is unmistakably overlooking a street in the French Quarter.

Just the mention of the book, A Confederacy of Dunces, gives me the chills. The disgusting soul of Ignatius shook me to my core. A must-read book in my opinion, but I can't bring myself to read it again after so many years. Love your videos, and I took a wonderful. French Quarter tour with you, Andrew, 2-3 years ago.
Yeah, I understand what you mean about Ignatius - he's one of the strangest protagonists out there. (And imagine being an actor slated to play him . . .) So cool that we crossed paths again!
Love these New Orleans tours, but this one had such tight shots on the host that you don't get to see enough of the scenery. We love Andrew as a guide and he is part of the reason to watch these videos for sure, BUT we are here to see the buildings and streets. Watched this video with friends and we all would prefer to see more of the buildings while Andrew is narrating, instead of one long headshot. Thanks.

I was lucky enough to shoot pool with Paul Newman when they were filming "Blaze" in the French Quarter on St Phillip between Royal and Chartres streets. I was selling roses for Bob Bridges (Bob the Flower Man) and we'd meet at a bar across from the garage where he kept the carts and roses. They were between shoots and Paul walked into the bar, saw the pool table, and asked if anyone had any quarters. The bar owner and then a waitress played a game with him, then I did. He's very good, but I was better (at least on that game, lol). Great memories living and working in the French Quarter in the early '90's. Chicken Man, Ruthie the Ducky Lady were friends of mine. Later got a job at Tony Moran's (above the Old Absinthe Bar) and waited on Frank Sinatra and Red Buttons one night.
Late to this party, as usual... "Panic in the Streets" OMFG!!! Never heard of this movie. Spent $2 to rent from amazon. It was AWESOME!. So many old FQ places that likely don't exist anymore. I am so impressed with your knowledge of the old city! Been a student of NO for some years but never really had the opportunity to pursue it fully. So much history there! Love what you're doing!
Thanks again for watching! If you know of anyone else who might also enjoy these videos, please share us with them. We would really appreciate that! Thank you.
I love New Orleans. Really enjoy you pointing out these places that I have walked by so many times. Was expecting you to mention "Runaway Jury" which of course was set in New Orleans. Perhaps mention Napoléon House where they filmed the end of the move or some of the other sites, Perhaps to old of a movie or just not enough people saw it.
Yes! Another great tour! I was so excited to see that it covered film and literary locations (particularly Interview with the Vampire). As always, Andrew shares with us the city's authentic heart which I appreciate to no end! (I totally would've been like that guy who recognized him. We stan a legend!) I would absolutely love to see a video about film/literary locations in the Garden District, as well as a ghost tour. I did google Thelma Toole. She reminded me a little of Katherine Hepburn in "Suddenly Last Summer." I don't think I'll ever pronounce 'literature' the same way again! Thank you!! :D
Would love a literary, TV and film tour of the Garden District. Specifically Anne Rice's home and other places from the book. Andrew, we've been missing New Orleans and really enjoy your tours. Leaving a tip now!
Boyz II Men’s “On Bended Knee” video was shot in New Orleans. I love to know where some of those sights were. Huge fan of theirs, and yours. Will be there in December 2022

When I was in the theater department at UNO back in the early 80's, Thelma Toole came as a special guest for a staged reading. I can attest that she was a hoot!

I have a compliment and a complaint. First the compliment: I did not realize that the Madame Delphine LaLaurie scenes were shot at a simpler style house just down the street, wow. Did not know that. My complaint is you had me so excited with the interview with the Vampire stop at the beginning of the video but I was anticipating (hoping!!) it would be where Louis, Lestatt and Claudia lived. Not a house coffins came out of. All in all I adore you and if I weren't unemployed from Covid I'd tip you like a rock star ❤
I love New Orleans. Too bad they don't make movies there. I fell in love with New Orleans from Elvis' King Creole. I was a music geek when I was young growing up. Country, Rock and Roll and Jazz was my favorites. I grew up on Elvis, and Fats Domino as well as many other great artist. Thank you Andrew for your great tours..Stay safe. Stay blessed.
Thank you so much so excited to find you all cant wait till we can get bak there and take a tour. We have found these free walking tours all over the world and truly appreciate your time and effort!!
A Confederacy of Dunces is my favorite book of all time. Another interesting book of short stories about New Orleans written from a 1920’s perspective was by Lyle Saxon called Fabulous New Orleans
Here is one to add to your tour: “Cat People” filmed in the quarter and on esplanade. In your video tour, at esplanade and Royal the big brick house where the guys are working on the iron work, David Bowie filmed a scene for Cat People. Time code 21:00
Thanks for pointing that out. I'm not sure if Andrew knew that or not since he didn't included music or music videos. Food for thought on another video!
Thanks for watching, Eslie! If you know of anyone else who might also enjoy these videos, please do share us with them. We would really appreciate that! Thank you.
Very Cool Vid Andrew ! It's nice to some familiar places ! Suggestion: Perhaps do a real Steamboat history ride with some real Cajun Nawlin's delicacies served aboard the steamboat. I love the steam calliope when it sounds at the port prior and after the ride. I'm sure the viewers would love it and would help promote tourism ! All My Best ! ~ Rick

@@FreeToursbyFootHQ Keep them coming! Love the city of New Orleans. Look forward to visiting again soon. Would love to see a tour around the Tulane area, just fyi.
That was filled with many fun facts! I am amazed at how much Andrew knows about New Orleans and this subject Are the live tours really pay as go? How many people in group and how long? Is there a lot of walking? Thanks in advance.
Andrew, Could you & Robi do a video that shows both the Algiers & Treme neighborhoods in New Orleans where parts of the movie Angel Heart were shot? ( The Margaret Crusmark & the St.John's eve ritual)
Nice work, but you missed a trifecta at Esplanade and Chartres. In addition to the plaque in your vid, as commenters have mentioned, Cat People had several establishing tracking shots between Royal and Chartres featuring the Faubourg Marigny side, and the big house river side/ Marigny side , Esplanade and Chartres was the creepy home of Malcolm McLaren in the film which Kinski visits to her peril. Directly across the street, on the Quarter side lies ex-resident and owner Germaine Welles' (proprietor of Arnaud's) mansion. When she passed the place was vacant for a very long time due to ownership squabbles in the family. In 1987 Disney's Buena Vista production crew suddenly showed up to renovate the entire first floor in grand fashion for the film BLAZE, which starred Paul Newman and Joanna Woodward. Immediately after the shoot famous record producer and musician Daniel Lanois (U2, Dylan,Gabriel, on and on) established his Kingsway Studio there and made some very fine world class records. He did the beautiful soundtrack for SLING BLADE. Dan moved on after a couple of years and the house was sold to, wait for it... Nicholas Cage (he no longer owns it). I thought you might be interested. I saw all this go on, I lived at 628 Esplanade.
By any chance, did the music group LeRoux shoot a music video of "New Orleans Ladies" on Royale Street? At 19:04, a green door is shown and to me it looks like a door used in their music video, just curious.
I took a look at the video and the only thing I can place for sure is footage of the Riverwalk, but it looks like at the very least they used some B-roll of New Orleans.
Glad that you enjoyed the video, Rhonda. Hopefully, you can check out our other virtual tours of New Orleans ua-cam.com/play/PLpNEdLF6RWV3oDPK7SD9GOttlhvaGBsh2.html.
Hey, thanks very much! At least a large % of Freedom was shot in the Treme - particularly recognizable spots would be Kermit's Treme Mother-in-Law Lounge (the building covered in murals that shows up again and again) and the space under the Claiborne Ave./I-10 overpass (you can see a huge mural of Allen Toussaint in the background of a lot of those shots).

You might consider joining our We Love New Orleans group facebook.com/groups/1721747767985746. It consists of tour guides, locals, and people who are or have just visited New Orleans and can be a great resource for recent arrivals.
Loved this tour. Being a big Anne Rice fan, I would have loved to see more of her shown on here. She set a ton of her writing in Nola.
Glad you enjoyed it! We plan on a video devoted entirely or mostly to her.
Great video. So happy to see the recommendation for “Panic in the Streets.” Sadly overlooked noir with great, atmospheric location filming. Love your videos.
We are glad that you enjoyed the video! If you haven't already done so, check out our back catalogue of walking tours from around the world. ua-cam.com/channels/DqyEmKOSkMbSYuLI3XTSBQ.html.
There is more where this came from!
Thanks for the suggestion. I will pass it on to the team for consideration for our next TV, Film, and Book tour.
love these videos...hoping to see one made during mardi gras :)... please :) thanks Andrew...you are a wonderful tour guide!
Thanks for watching Dawna. We are one step ahead of you. A Mardi Gras video is indeed in the works.
There are still singing vendors in New Orleans (I've heard them), but the modern ones are usually not classical operatic, lol.
Love your videos Andrew, British guy here, cant wait to finally visit New Orleans next year.
Thank you!! :D
Thank you, Stesha. We are glad that you enjoyed the video. Stay tuned for another Garden District video.
Would love a literary, TV and film tour of the Garden District. Specifically Anne Rice's home and other places from the book. Andrew, we've been missing New Orleans and really enjoy your tours. Leaving a tip now!
Thank you for the gratuities. We are working on a version for the Garden District. Stay tuned!
Boyz II Men’s “On Bended Knee” video was shot in New Orleans. I love to know where some of those sights were. Huge fan of theirs, and yours. Will be there in December 2022
Glad that you enjoyed the video DJ. If you haven't already done so, hopefully, you can check out our other virtual tours of New Orleans ua-cam.com/play/PLpNEdLF6RWV3oDPK7SD9GOttlhvaGBsh2.html.There is more where this came from.
When I was in the theater department at UNO back in the early 80's, Thelma Toole came as a special guest for a staged reading. I can attest that she was a hoot!
Thanks for the tour! I’m hoping lockdown will lift before April so I can experience more
I just booked a French Quarter tour and so excited! Hoping the team can point some of these spots out during it.
Another GREAT UA-cam post by Andrew and his crew❗ Awesome job guys. I live here, so I'm kind of picky when it comes to how we are represented. Yall do a bang'n job,,,,Keep up the great job guys❗
Awesome! Thank you!
I’m from Seattle I wish there was some awesome knowledge sharing with the inflection of story telling and fact sharing like you I’m so interested I follow u and enjoy watching your other videos thanks for being so cool and sharing
Maybe one day! You gave us an idea to reach out to a local tour outfit there. Thanks.
I don’t know what it is about Andrew but I’m a huge fan, as a New Orleans native and tour guide I’ve learned so much from you so thanks 😊😍⚜️❤️
He's good at what he does :). Thanks again for watching.
Great Video Your.💯👍
If you know anyone else who might enjoy this video, please do share it. We would appreciate it.
Great tour .
Glad that you enjoyed the video, Ge DiGi. Hopefully, you can check out our other virtual tours of New Orleans ua-cam.com/play/PLpNEdLF6RWV3oDPK7SD9GOttlhvaGBsh2.html.
Thanks Andrew!
I like Atlanta (my daughter lives there), but NOLA will always have my heart.
Andrew really is the best!
"Human emotion dies; property value is forever." My real-estate investment friends would definitely agree with that.
great channel, just stumbled upon it
Thank you. Welcome to our community!
You are welcome and thank you for watching.
loved it! could you perhaps do a video on Louis Armstrong's life in New Orleans? thanks!
Since i'm a huge Elvis Presley fan i visited movie locations from one of his best movies King Creole 1958🙂
Amazing channel , thanks for awesome videos.
Thanks for watching, Eslie! If you know of anyone else who might also enjoy these videos, please do share us with them. We would really appreciate that! Thank you.
Thank you so much for this. I love watching NCIS: New Orleans and I was wondering where the headquarters were as I knew they shot on Location.
the originals , the vampire diaries, an interview with the vampire,- !!!
Super excited for the ghost tour!! Would love to see more of the garden district 🤩
~ Rick
Thanks for the idea! That's a definite possibility.
Would love a video of the Garden District places in Films and all the places that Interview with a Vampire was filmed.
We are glad you enjoyed the video Stephanie. We will surely try to cover your suggestions in our upcoming videos. We also hope to show you around New Orleans when you get here. You can browse our tour selection here freetoursbyfoot.com/new-orleans-tours.
In the meantime, check out some of our other free virtual tours. ua-cam.com/channels/sGkZk2PVM_gaZjS0VH8RCA.html.
Great episode!
Wasn't The Big Easy also filmed there? And maybe The Pelican Brief too, I can't remember
Yep! They are discussed on our Garden District Tour.
Thank you for the tour. Could you show where Pitbulls and Parolees show is filmed?
This was an interesting tour and I have windows to Panic in the streets and Thelma Tool as I write :) Thank You :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
In the 1980's I lived in the 3rd floor apartment where the Originals was filmed. A dream apartment that I still miss.
note the corn stalk fence at 14:24!!!
It's a Hotel
Lol. The minute I saw this video title, I immediately thought of Confederacy of Dunces. Read it many years ago in college. A classic.
Hi Curt. It sounds like you made it through to the end of the video. If so, we hope you enjoyed it.
@@FreeToursbyFootHQ Keep them coming! Love the city of New Orleans. Look forward to visiting again soon. Would love to see a tour around the Tulane area, just fyi.
@@curtbell6839 Funny that you requested that because Andrew used to work there. We will get something up at some point in the future.
Yes please do a ghost tour! 😬
We're one step ahead of you, Jan :).
That was filled with many fun facts! I am amazed at how much Andrew knows about New Orleans and this subject Are the live tours really pay as go? How many people in group and how long? Is there a lot of walking? Thanks in advance.
I love Magazine Street.
Ever do anything on the Lafitte Guest House love and stayed there several times 👍
What about The Pelican Brief and The Big Easy?
!!! How could we forget? We do talk about both of these movies on our Garden District tour.
Andrew, Could you & Robi do a video that shows both the Algiers & Treme neighborhoods in New Orleans where parts of the movie Angel Heart were shot?
( The Margaret Crusmark & the St.John's eve ritual)
We'll pass this on to them.
I've always wanted to see where NCIS NOLA's Hq was! 😍😍😍😍 I love this.
Glad you enjoyed it, Alex. We plan to do at least one more movie, tv, and book locations tour video.
That is an amazing first hand account. We will definitely be creating another spot to cover even more film locations.
Where was Feast of All Saints filmed. Also written by Ann Rice I believe
This is so cool! Great tour topic!
Thanks for the book tips.
You are so welcome!
@@FreeToursbyFootHQ Thank you. I recently discovered your videos and am enjoying them.
It isn't showbiz related, but some videos on the North Shore/Covington area would be interesting. I love that area.
Something to consider. We will likely be in Slidell in the relatively near future.
I was waiting for the Anne Rice old house ☺ or the Witching Hour book that she wrote. 📚
That'll be in part 2.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Glad that you enjoyed the video, Rhonda. Hopefully, you can check out our other virtual tours of New Orleans ua-cam.com/play/PLpNEdLF6RWV3oDPK7SD9GOttlhvaGBsh2.html.
Great video! 👍❤️
Where has the music video Freedom of the great Jon Batiste been shot? Thanks in advance. ❤️
Adding to the theatrical theme, how about one for Disney's Haunted Mansion locations?
Great Idea Erin. Will try to cover it in my upcoming videos.
